Chevrolet Silverado Stock Airbox Mod
A modified Stock AirBox with an aftermarket replacement filter is better performing than a "COLD AIR" intake.
My Truck: Chevrolet Silverado 2015 5.3 V8 Gen V L83 Engine.
This trick works for most Chevrolet Silverado GMC Sierra GM Truck and SUVs, and probably as well for newer 2019 and 2020 2021 Silverado Sierras

I have a crankcase evac system, they go to the exhaust
So is the foam important? Mine is disintegrating and has a huge opening on top. I'm assuming it'll suck in air from under the hood, which might be hotter? Learning.
Yeah it's just insulation

A couple Screw holes are stripped out, so I’m gonna try your solution.
Also going to try the air box mod for more air too

The fancy intake filters are a pain in the ass to get and a pain in the ass to clean and oil. Leave the original alone. Take it from a buyers side. I wish the guy I bought my truck from kept the original air intake. Now I have to look for air filters for it online. I roll my eyes at stupidity🙄. At least if you put one in go with K&N something more readily available and not Valiant like wtf. Use some common sense. It’s a shit intake if you ask me.
Same happened with a Scion tC I had years ago. It had an injen CAI on it when I bought it but they didn't keep the OEM airbox. I ended up getting the full air filter assembly/tubes from a pick-n-pull for $20. As cool as the induction sound is, there's no denying the fact that the car was a bit quicker and better throttle response with the OEM parts
What is the size of the screw?
One that fits, but I think I used 1/4"

Did a study in college and k and n filters actually suck in more dust dirt and debris into your engine and had the dirtiest oil contaminants in it they’re utter junk and the stock air filters had the cleanest oil

If I was going to take it down and fix it, there was no point on leaving it stock. Nothing is sacred, chop 'em all
I would tend to agree, except that my air box is already opened up like this from the factory. So it would seem that GM decided it was a good idea at some point.

The air filter has 4 times the area of flow, compared to the air inlet hole... Simple math tells you the air inlet hole is a restriction.
@@cmscms123456 Simple math isn't enough. The reason the filter is larger is because it has more restriction. You would need to compare the flow rate of the filter to the opening, not it's size.
Dam I can’t find this part i bought my 2008 silverado and the air box came with like a mini air intake on the side of it and I can’t find it it’s like a little filter

Won’t improve squat. If you want more air replace the 5.3 intake with a 6.2 intake it bolts right up. The 6.2 intake has a larger diameter inlet.
Same sized air filter and not improving throttle body means no flow improvement
Yep throttle body comes first I shaved my bottom lip off throttle body you can take plate out and all apart to clean but when put back together just relearn throttle position and calibration of throttle plate.
It work work on 99-06 model I don’t think, I havnt seen anyone do that on those years just 2015+, I’ve seen tbss intake manifolds for the 99-06.
