2:58 If your bike suddenly stops (grabs traction) during a side slide, the inertia will throw you over. Avoiding this is simple, keep your center of gravity LOW. Keeping the wheel at high rpm will prevent it from get traction and MOST IMPORTANT, ALWAYS keep the bike as low (leaning) to the ground as possible, this will make almost impossible for the wheel to get traction and suddenly throwing you over due to inertia. Reduce wheel RPM ONLY AFTER U get off the side slide AND are going in straight direction then you can stop. Hope it helps
Soliddddd!!! Best how to video on drifting that I found so far man. You nailed every question and detail that I could think of. So much more confident to start swinging her around! Thanks my dude 🤙🏽
Really appreciate this video. I've been on the fence about getting into stunting my dyna or not. But seeing your setup I'm gonna do it! Seems like a good way to minimize the probable damages!
Excellent video man, thanks! I've been messing around in the dirt with my sportster to familiarize myself with this very thing. I've dropped it repeatedly with a few high sides for extra laughs...thank God for crash bars. Even so your still going to tear up things. Life is unending tuition anyways....you gotta pay to play!
@@taranitup not to be a dick, but it's a little different for everyone. Of you arent willing to drop the bike you wont learn. You may want to lean forward, I find a normal riding position isnt great but I do everything with forward on my bike so I squeeze the tank verse using footpegs for steering or weight control.
Man I drifted my harley yesterday [unintentionally]! Didn't panic and managed to keep the bike upright and continued lookin kool as I rode off in the AZ sunset. But as I was riding away I was thinking 1. That was bada$$ 2. I need to learn WTF I just did because that was bada$$!!!
Great step by step guide Jon. I still need to do my first wheelie before I step up to driftin. Sup with a step by step guide for doing wheelies for newbs?? Lol
Plenty of dudes tear it up with the belt just fine, so I wouldn't let that be a hold up. Check out leno_gonati on IG or joey.55. They both run belts. 🤙
@@kellysunseri-adams8550 if i may add , the belts are more expensive but the maintenance is basically non existent. Spray it of once in a while or ride in the rain. Im on my 7th sportster ive only snapped 3 belts , all on the same bike. It was not normal.
@@robertbelote5273 Right on... all my buddies running chains seem to always have to be adjusting them. Belts do seem way more convenient. Anything in particular you spray yours down with? I was thinking of hitting mine with wd40...
@@kellysunseri-adams8550 i would love to give you a recommendation but id ask an actual technician, i have hear that products like wd-40 can potentially shorten your belts life. I just use air. Compressed air.
Doesn't ABS make using any brakes or even too much front brake impossible? I've tried using a front brake to drift and it just ended up pushing my brake lever out and impossible to push in. It was so weird. Better off revving rpms up and clutch dumping.
Great video. Been ridin Harleys for over 20 years. I've done burnouts, wholeshots, wheelies... Not sure if age 45 is the time to start learnin drifting but, what the fuck. Right? 🤘🏼🤣
You always talk about cruiser customs gear for your bike and yet don't give us a link. Where can I get this stuff? Google search gives me nothing. I want those rear sliders!
You just hit upon a major safety manuever, Stephen. Iowa has a car simulator for decades that the auto institue applauds, but the direct cost of training seem to outweigh the costs of lost lives. I startedriding dirt in 1962, and we are now on our fourth generation of riders. Besides, sliding and drifting is just plain fun.
👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
^^^^This is the dude to check for the real deal! 🤙💯
Jon's Moto Garage p
Alright time to rip it up in my apartment complex 🔥
Bro they'll take are parking if we do that. ( i think this applies everwhere)
I need to pick up a cheapo bike to try some of this.
An old Vulcan 800
Nah spend a few grand itll be more motivation to not dump it haha
I picked up a cheap 2010 fat bob for this purpose.
I can't even do burnouts on my sportster I'm afraid it'll run away lol
Buy the crash protection your bike with never touch asphalt

Practice in a light rain if possible. Does wonders.
Totally true! I went out once in pouring rain as well. 🤣

How’s it going did you stunt it
Yeah, I found the most badass awesome channel in youtube. Thanks dude!

Jon’s Moto stunt school coming soon..
Enjoyed that a lot thanks dude
Ever drift an evil red plastic 3 wheeler? Hahahaha I was born for this. Just gotta get another bike!!
What crash cage and frame sliders are you using on the Sportser???
Very in-depth, exactly the video youtube needed on the topic. Keep up the great content!
Absolutely looooove that bike. Sounds so mean
When you lock your rear brake, do you keep pressure on the brake or tap to lock then let off?
You'll have to keep pressure on the brake up until you turn and dump the clutch into the drift.
Jon's Moto Garage one more. When you lock that rear tire do you lean forward ?

Awesome video! Great calm instruction with amazing video evidence...Great job!
The whisky throttle is a good investment, smooth af
Yo Jon thanks for the video it’s really helpful. I just wanna know where to get those shock absorbers. I couldn’t find any
One day I’ll start practicing some of these on my sporty, thanks for the videos brotha!
did you start yet??

I did that too only there was a car involved & I broke some stuff lol.
Video coming soon of the aftermath? Wishing you a swift recovery!
Jon's Moto Garage I’m all good bro thanks
Jon's Moto Garage yes video released tonight
So I should start on my Honda 50! Perfect
Hello. What exhaust are you running? It sounds awesome.
great video man
I was just tearing up my grass with my little old shadow 500 as practice lol
Brb, going to buy a harley.
What’s ideal PSI (front and back) for day too day riding?
I thought you were speaking a different language in your intro for a second lmao
edit: nvm you actually were
A bit of spanglish. Lol.
What you think of the Michelin battlax T31 radial for the rear for drifting?
I got to be the 1,000th like, so that cool, but anyways- this looks badass haha
Is it difficult with fowards
Great step by step guide Jon. I still need to do my first wheelie before I step up to driftin. Sup with a step by step guide for doing wheelies for newbs?? Lol
How do your neighbors not call the cops 👀
My kids can't even ride dirt bikes in our yard
As you mentioned, I certainly wouldn’t want to attempt this on my Shink 777, at least not on dry pavement.
He got in one of these house of paint heavy flake purple dynas and I swear it’s my new favorite dyna color funny to see this never see these bikes
Let me go try this on my brand new FXLRS
Ive got an 01 fxdxt with the belt drive... does the chain conversion make that big of a difference? torn on whether or not I want to take the leap...

What scrape plate is that
Is this an 88? I want to do some stupid fast launches but I have a belt drive
Oh I'm cringing that beautiful black paint on the crash bars all scratched and scraped up. 😨😱👍🏻😎
@Max Sand Oh I squid. When it's hot I don't wear a jacket, gloves or a helmet. Are you a fan of Steve McQueen movie "Nevada Smith"?
I hear ya! I never enjoy dumping the bikes.
Sick gloves my man! Hope you’ve been enjoying them and been doing well! 👊💯🔥🤘
💯🤙
Loved the vid I found a lot of info I never thought to put in to play. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Much love. Keep up the good work.
Lots of skill keep up the vidoes bro subbing here
Can you do that with ABS
I’m in love with this dyna! Is there a mods video?
Your Garage looks like a dealership!
Will my 99 bagger work , ? . 1550. Ss
Nah!

I want to buy the exact same bike but I don’t know what it’s called? Could you help me
Looks like a dyna
YES haha I was actually wondering and looked at another video the other day about how to drift :D
Tempted to try XD probably won't tho
Thanks, Professor Jon! 👨🎓🏍👍 Class dismissed!!!🤘
👨👩👧❤
damn when i buy defenses for my rebel 500 i'm gonna try to learn this
Is that a super glide?
Love the color of that bike, it's a Super Glide Sport? Have you done major work to the engine?
Wouldn't your front end come up when you dump it high rpm on the side wall?
No harleys are heavy you gotta pull on them. Do some burnouts or do a quick launch and you’ll see how easy it is to get wheel spin vs wheelie.
@@del_619 for sure, thx! Just a newb lolol
I have ABS on my FXDLS... I can't even lock up the rear tire for more than a half a second :/
just disconnect it, i did works fin will just have a error code
Hey bro what helmet is that?
Biltwell lane splitter
I think this stuff is cool as hell, but I find it way more fascinating to watch than to do haha

You should get a go-kart for the kids. Knowing how to control a vehicle going sideways saved my butt a few times.

Paulie drags is the 16 year old on the east coast
What’s that special pipe I see all you Harley drifters have?
That kid from the EastCoat is @pauliedrags @eastcoastin.
Ya I am not doing that to my Harley at the cost of tires.
Lol can I do this on a vrod
Put aside all the bar and shield bullshit , thats a tuff ass bike.
Do a how to drift on the dirt👍
It's basically the same, actually easier. Practice in the dirt first
I’m guessing same video just on dirt lol
wish i had drift my harley money lol i baby mine
those drifts look SICK but they have to smoke your rear tire pretty fast, no?
Half life's it pretty much
I tried did.with my horse he didnt like it
But whats the purpose
Oh no Jon or whatever your name is. To drift you must make huge rpms and just have faith it will continue. Always keep rpms up. Enough said.
Im not sure girls socks and vans are the best riding gear.

When did harley become stunt bikes........?
You California guys though, with the hat over the ears......wtf man hahahha your momma never told you eh
