    Hey Sam, that Sili-Gun is the only caulk gun we used at work. And it's a pretty awesome caulk gun. BTW you didn't say anything about it in the video, so I wanted to share just in case you didn't know. In the bottom of the handle of said caulk gun, there's a silver wire to puncher the seal after you cut the tube of caulking open.. Also as you use it, once the end of the tube is sticking out the back of the caulk gun. We would always cut the end of the tube off. Just so it didn't get in the way. Just a few thoughts, can't wait to see the shop once it's complete. And thanks Sam and Angela, for the great content on SamCraft, as well as Green Acre Homestead!!

      This is what I was thinking. Use magnets to hold it to the wall and make it easy to move if needed

      I like the cabinet idea with magnets so it is easy on easy off (no hinges). Could be an accent color, something really bold and bright and glossy then cover it up with decals with the color of the cabinet used as a border around each decal... just a thought-because you have to have a place for all the decals :)

    Nice one Sam. When i was young there was very little that i would attempt on my own, but as i have gotten older i have tried most things, getting things wrong along the way.
    Now (especially with YT video tuition) i can honestly say there's not a lot that i wouldn't try.

    I had a red gun that pulled the tube into the blade. It was fine for about the first 4 inches it got harder and harder to squeeze. I ended up going back to my old reliable gun. Sam the shop looks awesome!!

    Workshop is looking awesome! I'm so impressed at you building nearly every single part of this by hand yourself. Its fun following the process.
    Just an opinion you didn't ask for, feel free to ignore it, but the white is so bright on video that it was actually hurting my eyes, and kind of makes you look like you're pasted on top of the background, almost like green screen. Its likely too late to make a change even if you wanted to, but if you're considering a different color, maybe just a really light neutral grey? I think it would still give you plenty of light for video and be neutral.

    • @morick11
      @morick11 4 місяці тому +1

      I'm going to answer this for Sam. I haven't watched the video yet but when I painted the walls and ceiling of my shop I went with a brilliant white. With my LEDs the shop is great to do woodworking in. Unlike Sam, I intentionally didn't put windows in my shop. I know natural light is great but I wanted the security. The LEDs mimic natural light. My opinion that you didn't ask for either. :)

      Whitewall is the way to go, for color-matching.

    • @13MoonsOverMayhem
      @13MoonsOverMayhem 4 місяці тому +1

      @@morick11 Lol! I have LED's and white walls in my dye studio, too (I dye pretty colors onto wool yarns and spinning fibers for hand spinners, knitters and crocheters), its just for the filming aspect its kind of harsh. It is really good for color matching, in general (though I personally favor black for that), though as you said, natural light is the best when I can have it.

    I prefer my Ryobi battery operated caulk gun. No need to continually squeeze a trigger, just pull it and go. It will run though about 10 tubes, before you need to change the battery.

    I would put a 2x4 on either side of the electric panel (ripped to proper depth if needed) and make a floor to ceiling wire chase and then your panel door will sit flush. Trim out the chase with wood paneling and make front removalable for easy modification .

    • @frankmthompson

      That was going to be my suggestion. Box it out and paint it white. Make above and below "doors" or easily removable if frequent(ish) access is wanted

  • @pawsnazzy01
    @pawsnazzy01 4 місяці тому

    Sam why not build a U shaped cover that will cover the wiring? Have the sides the same size as the side of the breaker box, same width as the box and you can attach them with corner brackets, then if you ever need to remove them to run new wiring you just unscrew the brackets.

    I have used that caulk for years, but there are better ones out there. This one does not stay very flexible nor is it particularly adhesive. . Everywhere I've used it, both inside and outside, there are now separations.

    In short……no pun intended, the sub panel looks like hell. Should be mounted between the studs, code where you are must not require that. All of the wires running down the wall surface also look terrible. It would fine in a barn but in a finished purpose built shop that you’ve poured a lot of money into it looks like a poorly done half measure. That’s the first thing a person will think when they see it. You’re better than this Sam.
    The channel cover is a great idea but it will still look like the wall wart it is.
