T-ARA's Day By Day was huge. I can't think of a better k-pop cinematic event aside than T-ARA's Cry Cry.
T-ARA raised the bar. Without question.

Jiyeon - main character in Cry Cry, blonde in Day By Day
Hyomin - girl from the subway in Cry Cry, red/pink hair in Day By Day
Eunjung - thief friend in Lovey Dovey, adult Dani in Sexy Love
Dani - blind girl in Lovey Dovey, never got to debut
Soyeon - the girl in red at the club in Sexy Love
Qri, Boram, Hwayoung, and Areum did not appear in these drama videos.
All 6 original members stayed for the initial 7 years. Soyeon and Boram left afterwards.

All the girls in this mv are T-ara members except for Dani, Dani was a trainee and was rumoured to be debuting with T-ara as their 9th member but it was never happened due to the 2012 controversy

Day by Day is my absolute favourite T-ara title track (despite the funny english😂). It took me a while to get into them. I enjoyed Roly Poly and Bo Peep Bo Peep as songs but couldn't get into the group for a while. This MV/Song combo is what did it for me.
I know T-ara is most famous for their edm stuff, but all my favourite tracks by them are the more dark-country melancholic stuff 😂. The songs that sound like they could be in a Tarentino movie.
I love the vibe of these MVs. As a big Mad Max and Borderlands fan it's hard not to haha

I admit that I use a translator. I also admit that I came here for T-ara, so I don't think I'll stay, but thank you for giving this sensational group a chance. I love that MV dramas end with tragic endings. On the other hand, when you are going to be part of the "lives", if it is not too much trouble it would be great if you react to "t-ara ink concert" (the video with millions of views) where Lovey-dovey and roly poly perform. After everything the group went through, it's encouraging to see that part of the concert and realize how great they are. Thank you

The rapper in "Day by Day" is Hwayoung, this is like the hardest she went on a rap as there were reports going around that the CEO was going to kick out members that weren't working hard enough in the group and there would be a rotational member system... Hence, Dani was meant to be the 9th member of the group but ended up never getting to debut. Also, the vocals on the bridge are from Soyeon and Ahreum.
In the second song, "Don't Leave", there's actually rap from all four members of the rap-line at this time, Hwayoung, Ahreum, Eunjung, and Hyomin.
So yeah, Jiyeon is pretending to be Hyomin (pink hair) when she calls out to Dani in the cell. It worked because there were no female voices when Hyomin and Dani were ambushed. (Jiyeon stayed at the car.) Hence, Dani starts to become conflicted when Hyomin calls out to her after reuniting.
Something that's not apparent from these MV supercuts is that, iirc, both "Cry Cry" and "Day by Day" teased their sequel MV by putting behind-the-scenes footage in the credits! So we get to see the members, in particular learning swordplay for "Day by Day"/"Sexy Love". Jiyeon actually got hurt in the process too :( And then the sequel MV had behind-the-scenes footage from the first MV.
Groups definitely don't make drama MVs like this anymore haha. It definitely helped that Jiyeon and Eunjung (and maybe Hyomin too) trained as actresses before they joined the group's lineup!

@@roguereactsThis is a bit of a plug, but the boy group Golden Child released a 9 min drama mv two years ago and is the most recent of its type that I can think of. Prior to that, the boy group BAP was also known to release drama mvs akin to those of T-ara, but those are a little bit older from the early 2010’s. But T-ara were definitely the first of its kind and went much harder in that direction. Oh, early IU mvs were also very story based but I wouldn’t call them mini dramas.
Exactly! But I suppose it's not worth the money to do all the filming and all that nowadays... :( Like, if your members can act, just let them act in dramas. But back then, promoting the drama MV was part of the whole promotional process. Nowadays we have teasers, spoilers, variety show content, dance challenges, etc. so the company might think, "what's the point of pouring so much money into a drama MV and promoting that, when we can just do all these other contents?" So that's just how it is, pros and cons!
Absolutely! Golden Child had their MV with story, then they had the full version (9 min.), and they also collabed to make like a web-drama series (forgot if it was the same song or a different song) so that was neat to see! But haven't really seen much else like that. But it was cool since plenty of Golden Child members are into acting, so I think they were capitalizing on their strengths!
Which drama mv did you enjoy more overall, Cry cry + Lovey dovey or Day by day + Sexy love? Personally I'm a sucker for this kind of post-apocalyptic stuff, so this one takes the win, but they are both master pieces for sure. Wish more kpop groups would make MVs like these
Overall I enjoyed Day by Day + Sexy Love more for a drama MV. I'm also a sucker for a post-apocalyptic/sci-fi type stuff so it 1000% was my fav out of the two! I agree with you I would love if a few groups did this kind of stuff now!

You probably know by now as this vid is 2 months old but dont get confused just think of t-ara as the original main 6.... they are who t-ara were 90% of the time.. they added 2 more but one of the new members basically caused them to disband shorty after... the proposed 9th member dani.. who is the blind girl in day by day never got to officially join as the controversy had already killed them. They then came back in 2021 with just 4 original members of the main original 6... so yeah dont think of the 2 added members too much they were only with the main 6 for a very short time
