man I missthe good old 70's and 80's...lots of miles and lots of fun,,been thinking of going on the road again,,no ties 60yrs old,,maybe head out in the spring,,,time to find a van
Descend on Bend is our favorite event we've ever been too
I wish everyone could get along like that this world will be a lot better I love this show God bless your soul
Very cool...just started building my van out...I will be 55 years old this year and can't wait to start van life...Love seeing all the young people living outside the norm :D
Ill be 55 this and seriously looking into a van build also
Im 50 and im saving cash for a van and cant wait to live free and ride with the wind .
52 here my friend and just got my van recently. Working on the build out, wish me luck and good luck to you as well!
It's a 1995 Dodge B2500 318 Magnum conversion van I picked up for a grand. It has a Jasper tranny with less than 20k miles and the van itself is beautiful. Got new tires and an alignment, the rest is gravy. ;)
I've been driving out into the wilderness in my little Element for months - and camping for extended times (even during the "wrong and immoral" lockdown). I'm now packing up to live mobile in it permanently. I'm 66 going on 30, deeply driven by spiritual truth, and fiercely passionate about the evolution of the "human being". If I had a bigger rig, like a short and tall promaster - the only thing I'd do different is install a marine fireplace - to watch the flames on long winter nights. If a family of 4 can live in a VW Van, certainly a single lady/monk who gave up most of her "material belongings" decades ago can fit what's needed in and on an Element, eh? I so look forward to connecting with you all as it unfolds. Blessings!
“ I hate hash tags but I like hash browns” that’s golden right there!! I’m going to try to get to this gathering hope there is another one!🤙🏽
Oh there will be more
wow such a lovely documentary, we need something like this in England xx
Your all phenomenal.
I’m halfway through building my van putting bed in today very excited for the adventures to come
We've now watched this video twice. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the Humans Being aspect of the video - I don't drink, but Ryan is a guy I would like to have a beer with. My boys (7 & 9) loved the visuals of the outdoors and all the vans, buses, trucks and other cool stuff. We really appreciated the high quality video that documents a subject important to our family. Thanks to all involved.
Thank you!
2023 will be my first-year attending. I am completely stoked. I am hoping to have my ambo converted by then, but if not, I will be rocking a 4Runner and a tent! Stay safe, healthy and show compassion in your travels...
As a Central Oregonian going on 35 years this warms my heart and horrifies me all at once. Bon fires in the middle of the summer is crazy, your fire break was 20 feet, those embers can go fire MILES!
Thumbs up on the event, for sure.
Just a suggestion:
If you have a bunch of supplies to move, just rent a couple of U-Haul trucks and get it done with one trip.
No need to put miles and wear and tear on the Vanagons.
If you cost it out, figuring everything in, I think it would be more efficient.
Good luck with future events and hope to meet y’all out there soon.
slackerprince1 UHauls also make great weekend campers. Way cheaper than an rv rental ,dryer than a tent, and the loading ramp makes a sweet dining table for ten. 😉👍
It’s nice that they don’t limit it to just vans but pretty much whatever vehicle you have.
Would love to be there. It's cold and grey here in England, vans been sat for 2 months now.
Thanks for Vid. it's lifted my spirits.
10:01 I ASSUME Dennis is the private landowner allowing this shindig.
It’s 2021 and two weeks after our first Descend. What an amazing experience it was that we can’t wait to return even though we live 3000 miles away. This film does an amazing job capturing the warmth and spirit that is Descend and the nomadic community. 🤙
This is amazing. And beautiful.
I had the best time at Descend Cinco and can't wait for this years!
This was awesome! Being a veteran of 1969 Woodstock it really gave a genuine feel for the old wonderful days of my youth and even though I needed to support my young son on my own I still traveled Coast to Coast in the businesses I chose to support us both. This is a gathering I would like to personally experience since I have been traveling in my rig since my retirement in 2014. This is my tribe from times gone by. Younger but proud of them to have the same that I had years ago. Great filming and loved the music. Better than I thought it would be! Talent extraordinaire! Kudos to Ryan and the crew for putting this all together. I hope to attend/experience someday. It would be the incing on the cake of my life.
Totally awesome! Can't wait to see all you beautiful people again in 2019!
I don't get the dislikes for this video at all. I have a van I'm turning into a travel camper and this is the coolest thing I've seen yet. I will be heading to Oregon this year and would love to check this out.
See ya there!
I am inspired. I have been looking at van life for the last two years now. I am going to join the van life one day even if it is for a weekend at a time until I RETIRE. SomeDay Travel.
Wow! Sorry I missed this! Next year maybe? Totally my scene 😜👍🏼✌🏼
See ya there!
So, so, so happy to be a part of the Descend on Bend community!! I cannot wait for next year!
Happy you’re here, see ya next year
@@DeReamers The film came out so great!! Hearing Ira Wolf at the into made my whole body tingle. Thanks for this!!
Loved it all the way from England. We enjoy a warm and wonderful gathering and I could see that same cord of light there that runs through our lives here. There was a simple global message of transcendence in this that we can all understand. Much love (Hereford England) Mark.
Watching this in 2020, with all the things going on in the world, and now with the fires in Oregon etc, I really hope that this gathering still takes place when possible. It would be my absolute pleasure to attend.
"Real van life." Amazing documentary as well; nice work!
Thanks for watching 🙏
Thanks for sharing, hope to make the trek one day soon.
not only a collection of great vans but also vintage small motorcycles and retro mountain bikes. hope to make the 7000 mile round trip soon. ill try and bring all three
Sounds like a plan
Is there going to be one in 2022? I hope so, I'd love to attend!
This video is really inspiring. I'm on a journey currently and this has been great fuel for the tank.
Spare tank?veg oil...?
Just came back from this year's Descend on Bend 2019 and I still can't wipe the smile off my face!! What an amazing time!! I too can't wait until next year! Can't say enough good things about it! Serious thank yous to Ryan, Gene, Daniel and Dave for all their hard work and efforts....you and your crew and families made it the incredible event that it was! A million times thank you!
Oh I just watch the whole thing, ah man I didn't know this event was happening! I must try to make it next time. It looks awesome and everyone looks like they are having a blast meeting people and hanging out!
Thanks for watching !
I saw a whole bunch of you driving around Oregon, while I was driving around Oregon. Not sure how I missed the main group, I was staying at LaPine State Park! I also travelled through Sisters and over the Santiam - saw lots of you folks up that way. Wish I would have known what was happening, it would have been a great addition to my own journey to hang out with the Descenders.
There’s always next year!
I live in Bend and I did not know about this event.
But, Bend is truly one of the best places on earth. My wife and I enjoy the rugged outdoors with hiking, kayaking, skiing, motorcycling.
There really is no better place to do this stuff.
I love this so much. This video brought back so many great memories of 3, 4, 5. Love you guys. Can't wait til seis.
See ya there!
Wonderful connection. Beautiful life. Living...
What type of camera is his antique accordian style instant camera? Thing is mint.
I've had Van's for at least 35years. You'll never go homeless with one.
Would love to join the gathering this year. I'll keep my ears open!
Stay tuned - descendonbend.com !
What a great documentary!
i'm going to have to check this out this year once my Volkswagen Kombi is finished..this looks like a whole lot of fun..
Men doing man things with love in their heart. It's beautiful.
...out there.
And women....
Awesome! Love it! Been wanting to go for the past couple years... maybe I’ll be able to make it happen this year! Great, great job on the documentary!
Thank you! We’ll be waiting 🌞
This is awesome 👏 I’ve been on the road full time now for almost 4 yrs ✌️
Keep killing it !
Definitely about to attend this ear with my civic. Living partially nomadic with my dog splitting our time between the civic and airbnbs
Nicely done! A great watch. All the best from Wales in the UK.
Looks like an amazing time!
Always epic times! Thanks for all the work put in to make it possible!
Looked like a good time for all
What an awesome bunch of people. It's Burning Man for vannies. No internet. What a wonderful idea.
LOL Burning Man for vannies... That's good!
Nathan yep
Wonderful. As a complete outside this moved me. Thank you.
Thank YOU!
Loved it! All the vibes! Great work! Hope to have an overlanding vehicle myself soon, cheers from Germany!
All the vibes ! Thanks 🙏
Absolutely beautiful. 💙
Why oh why did I ever let my '85 Westy go?!? Someday you'll see me in Bend... keep it up :)
nice movie....
thank you
what camera did you use?
They all seem like genuinely good natured folk. I may have to load up my hooptie and come on up to OR one year.
Hooptie it up !
Pleasure to watch, good music and photagraphing
So great! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching !
@@DeReamers Would love to make it to the next one!
Beautiful!
This is amazing! It was my first Descend ever this year so I didn't know what to expect but I really love how you've captured the vibes, interviews, and how it's gotten to where it is... awesome work!! =)
Thank you 🙏
This looks so fun. I wonder if any Toyota Vans, as in the model, made it to this event ...
Oh yeah !
This movie was awesome and God-like!
Thank you 🙏
Good stuff! Loved being there and looking forward to reconvening at the next one. Thanks for capturing such good times with great people! 🙌
Thanks for embracing the good vibes, see you out there
Great work Ryan & Hailey!
Thank you matthew 🙌🙌
It`s like the opposite of fyre festival... A lot of sympathic guys actually plan something really nice :D
This vid has been on top of my feed for 2 weeks now so I gotta click on it now
really good documentary man!
Thank you!! 🙏
Hopefully by the time i get my schoolie built this event will still be happeing..
We’ll be waiting and ready
God I love Oregon. And vanners.
Awesome doc!
*OMGGGG! When is the next one?*
We get our van in July!!!! We would so love to join you beautiful humans being! :) This doc was excellent! What a gorgeous way to bring together people who are on the same page. So much love! Thank you for sharing! - Erin + Brian

Thanks for watching ! See ya there
@@DeReamers Rad! Alright! We will get on it! You guys seem like our kind of people! - Erin + (Brian too!)
When was it in 2018?
46:20 i miss my scooby. had a red 88 gl 4x4 standard. awesome ride.
this is Badass I would love to go and hang but I do not own a van have a Subaru with rooftop tent!
Anything that gets you into the outdoors!
go back and watch again … you missed the shot with THREE ROOFTOP TENTS in it
Wow i am the first comment, I had a 83 VW Westy and i loved it, went camping several time but will never own a VW again, i dumped over 5 grand in mine and it was still a problem, most the parts you have to get from Germany, i paid 120 bucks for a speedo cable that runs off the front driver wheel instead of the transmission, door handles and window cranks were 70 bucks apiece and my rare auto transmission blew and cost 2000 bucks to rebuild, so yeah if you got a lot of money to dump into an old Westy go for it because there is nothing more unique then a pop up VW but now i have a converted GMC van, simple, and way bigger inside, no pop top but more secure, but its about the lifestyle not what you drive.
Exactly
I had a Vanagon for 15 years. I learned so much from that thing about engines and being resourceful. Now, I have a 2001 Dodge Ram Van. Has air bags, anti-lock brakes, plenty of power, easy to work on and parts are pentiful and cheap. I agree with you that the mojo of V-Dubs is undeniable, but the novelty wore off for me and when my head gaskets went for the 2nd time I tearfully gave up on my van. Best decision I ever made for my van-loving sanity.
German vehicles are always money wasters, even BMW motorcycles breakdown as much as Harley's that are notoriously unreliable.
Eric Curtis Don’t feel too bad, I’m on my third tranny ( $3000 @ ) in my GMC 3/4 t camper truck. Designed to fail at 80k km. Lol.
I think this is one of those things that proves without politics people can get along just fine and by default people are pretty peaceful
Love everything about this!
super cool I hope to make it out there this year. #Missourinomad
Send it !!
In the 1960's they were called "hippies". Nothing has changed. People like to be free and break lose for a year or two, then a life of drudgery. Amazing how many hippies became corporate executives, millionaires, billionaires. Amazing.
I am already in Oregon and I have not yet heard of this. I hope to make it to the next one. Anyone else here know of any other Oregon van life meetups?
This was amazing! 😊
I live in Grants Pass. Looks like fun. Was wondering about the big hole in the ground. Is that a crater? Would be a great spot to set up some telescopes...
Indeed! Properly called “hole in the ground” thanks for watching !
Nice! I've been wanting to go to this for a while now. I hope that I get to go next year. It looks like a lot of fun. :-D
See ya there !
looks like you got a glasto type event about to explode with good loving people....be great if it were kept free or voluntary donations toward costs if any...i saw a raffle which is a great idea....i love the idea of people getting together and enjoying themselves...big brother wont....peace
is it at the same place each year? As soon as I see what the 2019 date is I may just make some plans to attend. Loved the video...and music
It has been held at a few locations, stay tuned to descendonbend.com and their newsletter for info
that's beautiful
Yep I have GMC van, I can't imagine a better van. I would like to go here.
We would like to see you too !
Ugh, anything is better than a gasoline slurping GMC
Not to complain...but I am. On your next documentary, try to keep the volume more at a level realm. I keep having to turn the volume up to hear people & down due to the music being too loud. Lots of cool Westies there, but I love the old Chinooks! 👍
I enjoyed watching that. We missed 2018, but look forward to being there again this coming year. Had to chuckle to see us from 2 years ago: ua-cam.com/video/PDOhjwXU7sc/v-deo.html
Time flies
Thanks for watching!
I believe with all that is going on in the world with the pandemic and the economy that #vanlife will be a "movement" within the next few years or less. Thank you for the informational video!!!
2021 had over 3,000+ people. Just wait for 2022 💪👍🇺🇲🥰
Dude, there is gonna be thousands of vans at this in next couple years now haha
More friends the better !
Because of your video, I've been looking for 2 days now for a T4 California lol, not sure what to look for when inspecting them, do miles matter much, above which number? Rust, batteries, you name it, the more I read the more uncertain I become, but maybe I've just have to jump into it like most of you probably did without looking back...
Hah yep! They’re all getting harder to find and more expensive ! Good luck
Robin and the Dog. If you are looking for a Vanagon/Westfalia, I would recommend the 1986-1991 years. By that time VW had worked out many kinks from earlier versions before shutting down production on those vans and later creating the Eurovan (Eurovans excel with air conditioning, but not much else IMHO). Make sure you get a qualified VW mechanic to inspect BEFORE you buy. Anything ~ 160-200K miles will most likely require a new engine and transmission rebuild. And get it as rust free as is possible, or plan to do body work so you stay dry and warm inside!
Owning a classic VW van has its pros and cons. The pros are that the van is exceptionally well suited for camping, whether it be urban stealth or off-road adventure. The VW van is super comfortable for sleeping and has the cozy comforts of a tiny home. With that said, there are cons. The youngest of these vans are now approaching 30 years old. Even if the van is in very good condition, I find that the parts do not last forever. Plastic and rubber do break down over time. And the talent pool of qualified mechanics that work on these vans are decreasing over the years. If you have mechanical chops, you can do a lot of your own work. However if you don’t, it will cost you A LOT of money. In my opinion just remember that entire systems on these vans will need to be replaced depending on the age and wear, for example the engine, transmission, cooling system, suspension, fuel system, etc. Those repairs will make the van much more reliable and dependable, especially if you off-road as I often do. But the rides into the deserts, oceans and forests and glorious vistas make it all worth it! Good luck with your search.
..hi, i`ve bought a t4 last year...read a lot about it... mine has a 2.4l diesel with 340.000 miles and runs perfect... they say that one shouldn`t rev. much above 3000 u/min. with that amount of miles on the clock so i don`t... from about year `98-`99 onwards there`s very little issue with rust... hope this helps...
Would like to get a CD of the soundtrack. Nice hope I can make it before it gets out of control.
Just think if everyone acted luke that it would be a mutch happier world ....thank you
Well done sir !
Thank you sir!
These are my people. ☺
Fo real! My family and I lived in a van and a motor home for 6 yrs tough but good times
These are not my people. I didn't like the fuckin' hippies back in the 60's, and I still think they are dirtbags. Lice infested acid droppers. I think they should be traded for a bunch of border-hopping illegal aliens. At least illegal aliens work.
@@bruceparks3124 2 ways I can respond to such an ignorant statement as this. 1 way I choose. Sorry ya feel the way you do , and the stereotypical mindset you have towards folk who choose to live outside the box. You as well had to choices how to respond to your experience. You chose hatred and judgement.
Dear Rider 71, (1971 was the year you were born, right?) Thought so. I am so sorry that I was so hard on your pot-smoking, mescaline-eating unmarried parents, but it had to be done. After all, I am a judgmental hater, am I not? You seem to think that your folks did you a favor by making you live in a van like a Somalian refugee for 6 years when the only time you got to eat was when your old man found a "really good" dumpster out behind some Safeway, and because they let you get out of the majority of your formal education. (it shows in your writing) I have always had a problem with the hippie types because they most often turn out to be insincere hypocrites and they behave that way intentionally just so they can be a part of the hippie crowd. You say they are living outside the box. I say they are weak little weenies who crave being around other folks just like them.
@@bruceparks3124 haha Now that's good stuff there.
A welcome glimpse into a life I have fully embraced. What's next?
Loved it ❤️
THIS looks like fun without the Quartzite drama.
