The 92 and on had a ZF 6 speed, it's basically indestructible! And I thought you would have mentioned turning the lt1 into a 383 stroker. Other than that, spot on my guy. Love the work!
Me and my dad are getting an older c4 and making a cart similar to how Leroy first started out, minus the forced induction. Cammed small block will be pretty fast in a completely stripped vette, especially considering the whole thing is gonna be less than 5k when it’s done.
the earlier C4 solution: 383 stroker and just carb the dam thing. it'll be way faster with more cubic inches and simpler to work on. but if you just have to have the EFI just use the edlbrock MPFI system or a holley HP...get rd of the low RPM TPI. A 383 n will out breathe it.
I like how C5s look more, and im not even a gm guy but when i seen a C4 that had an engine fire, i really appteciated how it looked especially with the fitment the wheels had. These cars look like bargains today. I would jump at the chance to get one.
I got a 95 with the zf6 and it’s a beefy trans clutch holds up good too. The block was bored out to a 383 and fully build with all stage 1, trans is stock to my knowledge. It’s got 38lb injectors paired with an upgraded pump and tuned. The thing hauls ass, its alittle slow off the line but one I get into second shit gets nasty, it kicks the tires out too fast sometimes. I got a steal on the car considering all the receipts I found in it, in total just the motor build cost about 1k less then what I paid for it plus all supporting mods he had to put in like injectors, pump, tune, radio and speaker upgrade, full exhaust. I paid 8k for it, I did have to put a water pump in it a few months after getting it but thankfully I check my car every 2-3 days for leaks and fluid check, caught the waterpump was leaking and parked it, got a new one put it in and no opti issues. The opti fails bc most dont check there 30+ year old pump and it leaks and leaks endlessly till the opti shorts out, this is why the opti gets a bad name
also the c4 weight was around 3200 lbs making it extremely light if you delete the spare tire/jack assy mufflers cats and cast headers you easily shave off 100lbs making them lighter then a c6z.
My first Corvette was a 1995 and I loved that car it was super reliable atleast for me super easy to maintain for the most part and daily drove it and just loved it
I will say the 87-91 are good to, those tuned ports just suffered for air on higher RPM’s. If you add short runners, a bigger throttle body, port the heads and add a cam. They move for a 80’s car. Mine would keep up with a c5 z06 while spinning the tires. “Suspension sucks ass tho. Lol at least compared to the new stuff
I got a 93 lt1 c4. White with red interior. It’s my favorite car I have lol. It’s been pretty reliable besides the Speedometer going in and out but she always starts right up and drives smooth. It’s not the fastest but it peels out easy 😂
Oh for sure, I just picked up a 86 c4 and the same thing happens to me with my speedo, if you have the stock lightbulbs in the speedo, definitely switch them out for xenon, and about peeling out…oh yeah she peels

The C4 has a super nice suspension, with that LT1 engine it was slapping around the exotics of the time. Easily one of the best value project cars if sports cars are your thing.
@@hunnterful1 GM designed it specifically to take the fight to Porsche and Ferrari! Road tests at the time rated the ZR1 package as being superior to Ferrari and Porsche's offerings, their only gripe being it still had the same GM interior and nearly identical styling to base.

I have had a few. Personally I think the earlier non LT small block c4s are better to work with if you will stay gen 1 sbc. The aftermarket is better than chevy LT. You will want the 4.10 gears in the dana 44 off rip. I'm planning the turbos in the nose on the new one, but I put a single in the battery tray before.
The C4 *was* a monster and was the first modern Corvette. It embarrassed Porsche in the 90s and made more TQ/lb than the Lamborghini Diablo in the BASE model (LT1). Most of the hate on these cars is from people who think they LOOK slow and know nothing about them, or what makes a car a good overall performer. Still beating S4s in mine, almost bone stock.
Chrysler literally used, benchmarked, & sliced/diced/lengthened a C4 to build the "White Mule" Prototype, codenamed "Felicity" & later known as "Vipera" in Italian, or "Viper" to the many that reside Stateside.
I have an 86 with the TPI. I ripped out the TPI and threw on an edelbrock performer intake, AVS2 Carb, and a vacuum advance HEI. I deleted 100% of every emission equipment, 1-5/8 LTH, 3inch Full Exhaust with X pipe, and 1.6 roller rockers. Soon, I'm gonna cam it and it's gonna be an absolute animal.
Replace it with a older sbc or put a ls . Wouldn’t spend a penny on a 305 tpi . Not the worst gm motor of all time but definitely not worth upgrading . Can make more power other ways for the same price or cheaper
If you want an ls just buy a c5, building out an l98 is so cheap and easy going through the hassle and expense of ls swapping just ain’t worth it. Just buy a fitech 38351 ecu, headers and a straight pipe, delete the egr and air pump then rip that thing. Once you delete all the emissions bs and let the engine breathe an l98 is a very capable and reliable engine and with a reasonable tune emissions are negligible at best.
I have a fully built nitrous sbc from prestige motorsports. A level 6 4l65e transmission and a built dana 44 rear end. I'm bringing it to the streets this summer 😎💯
You can turn a c4 corvette into a corvette kart project car. It's pretty crazy to butcher a car basically, but you shave off a lot more weight. Throw in some more power with it and you basically have a car with a crazy power to weight ratio for how cheap it is.
I have one of those convertible built the living crap out of it Edelbrock 205 heads performer 500 horsepower package b&m racing transmission with a 3200 stall converter (that was awesome) and a computer chip this thing was a beast. 60 MPH I can map the gas and start sliding sideways. And it was very dangerous because the fucking power steering didn't work for shit and even the one I replaced it with didn't work
You can upgrade the opti spark , reason why they failed is because the water pump has a hole and it would leak into the opti spark . It’s a easy fix you can do it with the motor inside
But you regret to tell people that you're supposed to only take the body from the C4 and put a 400 small block old school Chevy motor and build the living s*** out of it and then them Corvettes are untouchable I've seen one of them that's built with a 400 small block twin turbo with nitrous stump all over a Lamborghini and a GTR I'm currently building a V10 Dodge Viper twin turbo and I'm putting it in a Dodge Dakota RT extended cab 1998
