I call this winding, they actually inhale the air, almost like they are tasting the smells. They know I am not something they have seen or smelt before, and wondering what I am.
Happy New Year 2025 Bear Guy!! Fantastic video-gorgeous bears, Never seen a polar bear yawn before. Huge Feet-thanks for the comparison to the boots. Baffin Island is beautiful. Polar bears only succeeding in getting food 5 percent of the time=had no idea. Thank you for protecting those workers Bear Guy!!
Super video.!! I think this is the first polar bear video from you that I have seen and it was really interesting. The foot comparison between you and a polar bear really puts their size in perspective. Thanks a lot for the video and have a great day.
I will say when it all comes together it can be pretty amazing. When I was with a dedicated bear program I would be going non stop working and seeing bears, that was when it was awesome. Now, my assignments can be a lot of sit and wait and I like activity. For me, I sometimes have to remind myself to enjoy the traveling, or the scenery, and to really cherrish when a moment does happen. So with that said, maybe not the best, but pretty damn sweet! Lol
When I was a kid one of my biggest fears was running into a polar bear alone, we get a few of them come by every spring when the ice comes down from northern labrador and the seals are having their pups✌️ 🐻❄️
There is a very healthy population of polar bears along northern Labrador. Flying from Lab 2 to Lab 1 I saw them on the rocks. The one location if you went to the beach tanks, the guys I talked to said your head had to be on a swivel. The one specialist from the fly in camp said there were areas that they'd see 20-30 bears chilling onshore till the ice came back, it was usually a bay or inlet that would freeze first that the seals would be at first.
@TheBearGuyCanada there seems to be more of them now than I remember 20 -30 years ago would never go of alone places i did as a kid especially in the early spring.
Unfortunately only from a helicopter and fixed wing airplane. They tend to stay away from these location has there are big bears in the area. Our road systems are about 8km in total extending from the living quarters to a lake, or to the fuel tanks at the beach, and heading to them on foot is never a great idea.
I do too, and I say only believe fifty percent of what you see. Years ago they used an old bear that was skin and bones and about to die as their campaign. It would be like going to a elderly folks home and saying a 90 year represented the state of man. Pure propaganda and using social media to pull on heart strings. When you talk to elders and the people in the north, you have populations of bears doing the best they have seen, and some not so well. It is these populations that they love saying its all climate change, and now they can create taxes, push agendas, etc. It is said that earth has had something like 11 ice ages, and that its on a 7000-10000 year cycle, and we look at the last 100 years of weather and somehow we have made conclusions that it is us changing the weather, yet this is coming from people that are flying in private jets 15 days a month and making millions and billions.
Yes. A grizzly will acknowledge you and usually go back to doing what it was. In that acknowledgment, it has determined if you are a threat to its safety, or whether or not it thinks you are prey. With a polar bear, you are prey. They never take their eyes off you, and are pondering how to make a kill with using the least amount of energy. Habitual bears of any species will act different because of their experiences, but these polars I encountered have no habituation at all. They are smart, and they don’t care if it takes hours or days, they start calculating how to hunt, they will sit for a week and time your schedule and routine. They are not as aggressive as a grizzly, they hunt more like a cat, have to, if they want to catch seals.
@@TheBearGuyCanadaWow, that is fascinating and so very scary all at the same time. Props to anyone who lives/works in close proximity to these bears. Thanks for the great content, I really enjoy your posts. 👍

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you very much!
Thank you!! Beautiful bears. Love their white coats!
I agree, they are stunning.
Bear lounging on the snow reminded me of my cat lounging around my place... So comfortable but on high alert!!! Love the bears. Thanks!!!
Yep I have cats too, lol. But with these big bears, if you got complacent or let down your guard, they'd still be the cat, but I'd become the mouse.
Beautiful and scary. Thank you for posting this footage of those stunning, remarkable carnivores.
I agree, they are stunning!
Thank you, Bear Guy!! I hope they have plenty to eat.
I hope so too
Always enjoy your videos 🐻 🐻❄.. Ty

I'm glad you enjoyed it, they are truly majestic animals.
Your coffee must smell delicious to the bear
Its in a sealed mug.....but I'm sure they'd enjoy a swig of it, lol.
They really do hibernate awake
No different than us on the couch after a late night, with no plans on moving the next day.
They look pretty peaceful when you view them from a far distance.
I've asked you several times, but do you know you have the BEST job in the world, don't you? I wish you an amazing 2025, Bear Guy . 😃

Absolutely amazing! Have you ever filmed a polar mama with cubs? 🐻❄️🐻

@@TheBearGuyCanada Thank you for your response. Greetings & best wishes. 🐻❄🐻🐼
That bear putting his nose into the wind seemed to be smelling your coffee.
Coffee was in a sealed container, it was smelling me and anything coming in from the sea.
Thank you for the explanation.
You're welcome!
I see the polar bear as the poster child for the effects of a changing climate. Very troubling.

Does Polar Bear behavior differ much from their brown/black cousins?
Yes. A grizzly will acknowledge you and usually go back to doing what it was. In that acknowledgment, it has determined if you are a threat to its safety, or whether or not it thinks you are prey.
