Crazy to look back at your shop 3 years ago , sooo empty,!! Congratulations on the success kev👍👍
Yeah no lambo, monster truck
I have never seen him so calm
Frrr
Still using this video for reference 4 years later! I know there are probably loads of shock videos but I gotta support Kev! Thanks! 🎉
Thanks Kev for all the good info. Ive been in RC for 25 years, but you continue to educate me in it. Thanks
Basically now everyone can be a expert in rc in a matter of months because of the ridiculous amount of knowledge internet provide , something that the rc enthusiasts of the past would kill to know or learn ,modern generation would have it instantly learn
What I did to keep the same damping effect so that the tire won't sink into holes but rather glide over is I went with 25wt and drilled out the piston holes. You keep the smooth rebound but the shocks can work faster. Either way, you can't go wrong. The factory shocks with whatever oil they have in them are very sticky, Great Job Kevin. Always helping the community.
I run the Vaterra Asender Aluminum shocks on my Axial Wraith with no oil and it's frigging awesome just tension the spring enough to keep the car up right and riding high gets crazy flex
Great post. From my Landmax days, getting. truck to handle correctly in dirt was a balance of finding the right oil and spring rating and pre-load. I would think spring pre-load would have more to do with crawling ability that shock function. However, your truck is definitely bouncing less.
6:17 you don't see a rock crawler drift very often
ye this is stupid & 11wt oil you might as well remove the shocks all together, if you want a Basher buy a Basher if you want a Crawler treat it like a crawler, 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back....

Simple mod, big results! Awesome 😃
You're absolutely right about the shock oil. For my SCX10ii I switched to Team Losi 15w (which is 104 cst) and my black piston GTS shocks went from useless to great. I read somewhere that the TRX4 Sport comes with red plunger pistons (bigger holes) allowing you to run the 35w oil, but damned if I can find anywhere that sells them. Thanks.
Definitely a good idea. I always run between 10w and 20w in mine...
Respectfully, I would say the rear is still too stiff. That's not oil, that's Spring. I would go at least 25% softer on the Rear Springs, same Oil. I think you will find that even be-er!! 👍👍😎
I’m not sure it’s the best idea to use a power drill to remove your screws, the heat might damage or melt the plastic. I learned from experience
@DeRustix HD I love mine like a child. I will hand turn my hardware thankyou.😎😎
its the torque not the heat and its fine if you know what youre doing.

Hi Kevin, great video as usual. I didn't notice big articulation. how does one get good articulation? Is the key longer shocks? If so what size for scx10 ll. Also what are your thoughts on springs vs internal shocks? Thanks. Take care and keep up the good work.
That lil bit made a world of a differance lol. Thanks for the tip Kev!!!!! Looks like wat ill be doin wen i order a set of the trx4 shocks
Best upgrade ive seen as a new trx4 owner...better then brass, thanks and cheers from Newfoundland Canada
Thanks for video Kevin I did same to my trx 4 it works great
Ok, that one got me the incentive to subscribe.
Old RC guy (too many hobbies), new to crawling (and I love it).
TRX sport (stock), going 20w on shocks then 10w to compare.
Will upload comparison on home "course" once done.
Suspension tuning is a complicated art but at least it's easy enough to make big differences, it's the fine tuning that takes patience and skill but not that important for 99% of people. You've seen a huge improvement there for a couple of quid outlay.
The interesting part for me is the confirmation that stiffer suspension DOESN'T always reduce roll over. If the suspension is so firm that the weight can't shift fully then it can actually make the vehicle more prone to tipping over.
Ah yes, suspension tuning. Took me a while on my custom, Bruiser-based RC4wd scaler. The thing weighs a ton with all the steel parts and hardbody and it would tip over when the chassis shifted weight from one side to the other. At first I just went stiffer and stiffer on the springs which killed articulation and didn't solve the problem. Solution: 90wt oil... yes 90wt in a crawler/scaler. The thickest oil in any RC I own.
Love how this pops up on recommended, love the video🙏🏼
Few tradeoffs come with nothing but great advantages. I find that unless its a very specific application the stock or a neutral setting works best overall in most circumstances. Of course for us tweakers we never ever feel content.
I hated the "bounces" so I went thinner oil, made adjustments. Well no bouncing but instead you start breaking stuff so thats the tradeoff.
Great how to on the oil change. Thanks!
Way more dampening! No where near the recoil!! Traxxas needs to update their shocks. Great video
Great tip. Big difference.
Any recommendations for a short course truck? I am considering picking up new shocks for my slash, and I dont know what density oil i should use.
If you make sure the shock is completely collapsed when you screw the top cap on all the way you should not have a hydro locked shock. The shock should also want to slightly push out as well but still be fully compressible.
I ended up going all the way down to 10wt oil. It prevents bouncing but it doesn't interfere with proper articulation at all.
thanks kevin for great tips, this what i looking for
kev do more of these type of videos there excellent
Nice VID! tq for the tip! BTW, what battery u was using in this video? 3s or 2s ?
My upgrade plan was krawler ta's on beadlocks, lighter weight oil and eventually longer shocks. Now i know what would happen
لا
great video's man!!! thanx a lot
No bleeder caps!! Youre a life saver
Awesome!! Pls could you do a video on the FTX carnage?? And maybe do some upgrades for it?? :)
major improvement
awesome video very cool Trx4 great job thumbs up
6:47 *THEY SEE ME ROLLIN*
Hey Kevin. What is your opinion about Traxxas trx 4 sport?
Dear god it is a Drift MONSTER!!! I wasn’t expecting that!
Have you driven it like this with the stock body ? wonder how that does ?
First video I’ve see without an xmax , nicely done tho
is that a gif for your thumbnail or a different format or is youtube just automatically making them animated thumbnails now? seen everyone using it.
it must be you tube doing it, i've never seen it!
UA-cam plays a bit of the vid when you hover over it
Here's another tip: Get your hands on some lead used in roofing houses. Cut it in to long strips and wrap them around your wheel ( inside the tire). Or if possible fill up the inside hub of the wheels with fishing lead and epoxy but this method isn't un-doable. Heavier wheels benefit crawlers.
how does it perform with the heavier stock body on?
Wow too good suspension of the Trx 4
AWESOMENESS!!! 😎
Do you have any recommendations for beginners
What shock oil did you use?
MileHigh 22 "CORE-RC 100 C51"
my rear shocks on my trx4 sport are stiff as hell, im gunna do this all the way around and hopefully it will help. i was thinking not so stiff springs as well. stock seems pretty stiff.
How much 100 cst oil for one shock? I preload the TRX4 springs 10mm and i get way more flex.
I just used olive oil in mine to fill it up actually worked really well 😂
Is it just 3s lipo in that beast?
Or is it different gearing and motor?
Very cool kev
Don't need longer shocks just mount them closer to the centre like at an angle gives u more twist I done this with the ftx mauler and it near twists 90° no joke
What motor/gearing you running
Nice tip, thanks. I noticed it seems quite peppy for a crawler, I'm assuming that's a brushless setup, right? You seemed to be able to crawl with it as well, you mind telling what setup, motor and ESC, you running?
Definitely go with the 3300kv axe xerun. Put it in my trx4 Blazer and it's amazing! Super slow crawl speeds, (stock it was already really good at this) low range is now equal to what high range used to be, (compared against my buddies trx4 bronco) and it absolutely rips when you want it to. Plus knowing I won't have to replace brushed motors, and all the programmability via Bluetooth.
U should try a video removing the shock oil and the o ring it makes the car look much more realistic and less bouncy
Interesting Video Kev, Thanks! Since you've obviously got tons of experience and knowledge about SO many different makes and models etc. etc. I'd really appreciate your opinion on a few things concerning my new SCX10 ll 1955 Ford 100. I'm definitely going to be putting some inner fenders on it and one of the first things I want to change is the stock tires, wheels and shocks. I really like what you have on that TRX4 and would like to know exactly what that setup is, including sizes, and if you think it would work on the SCX10 ll without rubbing and binding up on the '55 body. I'd really appreciate any tips you may have on that. THANKS!!
I've got 1955 F-100 and 4.75"(not xl) RC4WD Wrangler MT/R is pretty good, videos in my channel.
How about a review on that little electric scooter in the frame at the end????
what is the stock trx4 oil weight? you added about 11 so whats stock?
20wt
CamaroWarrior 30
were do you get those traxxas adpators ive been looking for those
i just dont put any oil at all, works great!!
whats lt like at speed over bumps and jumps?
IWTaco711 Won't that stiffen up after some time because the seals and piston don't get any lubrication? Just wondering!
you can always put green slime (the team associated stuff), if thats a concern of yours...but i never had any issue. I use my rig for crawling though, not for bashing
Kevin Talbot that i dont know, i mostly crawl....but just try it and see if it works for you!! thats the hobby after all....I tried after one of my shock was leaking and now most people who I crawl with no longer bother with oil
No oil will make it very bouncy.
Love this
that happens to my scx10, the shocks got stiff early, so them two 0 rings at the bottom of the shock body, use 0 rings a fraction smaller. boom
edit...
what happens is small bits of dust and shit passes through the original 0 rings when the shaft goes up and down in the body and lodges in-between the seal sometimes entering the shock.
Do you recommend the king 100mm shocks
Merci Kévin je ne savais pas qu'il fallais dévisser aussi le bas de la suspension
With this oil set up does it climb well on steep hills??
better I would say as it bounces less
@2:39.... warning / disclaimer since this is a family show? :-) Very smooth action......!
What's a beautiful girl like you watching rc stuff? I think I found my soulmate 😋
What is that yellow scooter in the background u should make a vid about it
Hey Kevin can u get a redcat Everest 10 and test it??
What body’s are those? Sweet vid 👍
Can y'all get stock ones that flex this mjch
Cool old truck
Still needs bigger holes in the piston for sure
yeh probably dude
What shock You use?
nice vid.
Hi who makes the short bed chevy body?
Proline i think.
kevin u make u play division? i know u voice or im rong?
What is this truck I mean make and model
1:36 So much Flex here!
For the donuts the difference us like the unlocked tltoys diff vs locking the rear
Using a 2s or free s?
I had no idea you watched exocaged too... What about hemistorm?
Link for that oil and how to use it plz
I think crawlers are not meant to jump. But good mod anyways
Hi Kev my trx4 steer better sharper to the right will flip over to the right if doing donuts but to the left it’s a large radius how should I try fix that
I had a stroke reading this ngl
Where did u get the body
TANNER BAKER Proline I bet
Ford Raptor from peoline
When are you going to do some gmade unboxing I have a gmade Buffalo with no videos of what I can do to it?
How can i make my trx 4 so fast?
i have the Sport Kit without Diff Locks and 2 speed transmission
from vedios i saw they change battery to 3s liPo
Whoa 👏👏👏👏👏
You should get a ecx torment and modify into make it faster
Brandon's Rc channel name we did a comparison of a 4s ecx torment vs the new arrma senton 6s
What’s the stock rc called
What body is that? Looks cool
66 Chevy c10 from proline, the red one looks like one of the Ford raptors
How do you spell that.. Beah.. lol.. I know you are talking some type of English but sometimes I don't have a clue what you say.. hahaha You make me laugh..
6:05 lmao
Hey i was wondering what rc is that and what the body is
The rc is the trx4 by traxxas and the body comes with it if you buy the defender one
Put the velineon system in !! (I know its overkill but , i never seen a brushless TRX4)
RCDuck's | Chaine Modélisme someone put a pro4 with a mamba max pro
Oh really ?! xD
it can happen but it will sick to drive. when you try to go slow it will cog and bounce around everywhere. better to put something sensored in there
limitless rc
the velineon can not be driven at low speed at which this truck us designed for. you'd have to go sensored brushless.
I have 45w oil. Is this ok?
What shock oil would anyone recommend for the Enduro Gatekeeper ?
22w
what tire ?
Don't do that to your shocks bc you don't get any rebound (I race dirt oval)
