    Thanks for the shout out. I always enjoy these videos from you because I relate so much. I think not only does your story demonstrate and how you still feel about money and how it grounds you, it also helps ground viewers of these luxury channels to recognize that we know the value of money and the hard work involved and that we're not just mindlessly spending with no regard to reality. Well done.

    I too came from very humble beginnings. My parents didn’t have the resources to send me to college, but I lucked into my career right out of high school and my parents strong work ethic, instilled in me, carried me the rest of the way. They didn’t give me much, but that they did. At 50 yo, this past September, I purchased my very first luxury bag. I’ve worked my butt off and certainly deserve to reward myself, but the stupid guilt is real. High school aged me could never have dreamed of such extravagance. Crazy right??

      The guilt will fade! 😂 I was the same but now I own 7 luxury bags and counting. My friends spend a fortune on drinking and going out every weekend, I don’t so this is my treat

    Amelia - I want to “Thank you” for being so open about your personal life. I can totally relate to what your saying… I love luxury items as well and I also hide my purchases from my friends and family. I don’t feel comfortable wearing/using these items in front of them… so they sit in my closet…😢

      Do you wear your nice, luxury items other places that don’t include friends and family? It seems wasteful to buy all of these nice luxury items and not wear or use any of it, in my opinion.

    This is exactly why I love your channel! I can relate to this on every single level. I see so many people online talking about how all they have achieved is down to hard work, but they don’t acknowledge that opportunity and luck have a part to play too. It’s lovely to see someone like you talk about hard work but also balance it with gratitude for the opportunities you’ve been given. Literally loved this!

    People like you are very smart with a great survival instinct. I get what your saying. I was pretty spoiled but having that security means we just have different problems. When people have everything they need and security they start worrying about stuff that doesn’t matter and that was us. You do very good with organizing your finances most people don’t take the time and effort to do themselves that service and you will thank past Amelia in the future. Have a great day thank you for sharing your story!!

    Loved watching this! Definitely agree once you can really manage your money and prioritize spending, it becomes easier for money to find you. I always "pay myself" every paycheck as if I'm a bill and it makes it easy to save and also make a big purchase when I need to. I always think to myself if I was able to get boobies at 20 with a basic pay job I can definitely afford to buy bags IF I want and I do but usually after months of thinking I don't think I've ever bought a bag on a whim tbh. Knowing that bills are paid, IM paid, investments paid makes me more comfortable to spend whenever the time comes

    Every time I watch your channel I notice you are divided by two opposing feelings - pleasure from bags and guilt for your collection of bags. If you can afford it, please don't feel guilty, you can't be responsible for those adults who couldn't achieve material success. I truly believe that every financial success is the result of great sacrifice, hard work, diligence, willpower, etc. The sacrifice you make to achieve material success must be balanced with something enjoyable. No one has the right to judge you for what you find enjoyable, be it a bag or something else.

    I hide my bags from my older sister out of respect for her insecurities and jealousy of me throughout her life. I know full well it’s HER problem and issues but I choose to step aside and let her shine. Of course it’s easy because she lives 10 hrs away in another state. I just don’t load up my suitcase with items that I know would trigger her anxiety and insecurities.

    I totally relate to everything you’ve said. My husband and I are in the same ”rags to riches” boat. We have all the same feels about our luxury purchases/home/vacations which we are blessed to be able to enjoy with our children. The biggest struggle for us and I wonder how you have thought about it is not raising spoiled entitled children. I know your boys are younger, but how does one raise grounded kids who become successful if they don’t ever have to struggle? It’s a constant battle in my brain! 🤔

    • @TheAkumaChan
      @TheAkumaChan 8 місяців тому

      Personally, I grew up with no struggles, my parents have always been financially responsible, I got everything I needed and got all reasonable wants. I think it's the lack of materialism that my parents demonstrated to me that was the most impactful. You have to do what you preach. I'm now one of the most financially responsible people I know (mid 20's). I offered to pay my own way through most of university. I think the feeling of student loans made me realize I never wanted to be in debt.

    I enjoyed your videos from your other channel and was introduced to this from that one. Can you not upload the videos from there directly to here with a short introduction from yourself, ones that are applicable that is? I’ve a similar background, now financially doing well and would love a mini Capucines but I can’t allow myself to buy one while I still have my mortgage. I’ve actually bought 4 luxe bags this year plus 3 Longchamp nylon ones, a further 2 contemporary; 9 is a lot to buy in one year even if money is there. It used to be a couple and I need to get back to that to make myself comfortable again. I don’t want to lose that feeling either. It’s not about the money, rather the over consumption for me and it’s unnecessary.

    what a wonderful video!!! such an important and self-aware message. have you considered perhaps putting a % of what you spend on luxury (psychological matching donation e.g. i buy myself a chanel bag, and put 1k to charity fund) to education related charities or schools? this can sometimes help lessen the guilt of 'having money' as you are contributing back to a cause to help other young people who were in your situation.

  • @sacha3910
    @sacha3910 8 місяців тому

    The magic IS the guilt, as with the guilt there is also a sense of responsibility and an awareness of privilege. That lingering sense of unease is what removes any sense of entitlement both in your excellent communication skills here and I’m sure your approach to business. It will also manifest in how you raise your children, if you are always conscious about the privilege you now have, so will they be in adulthood. I’m a little older than you and have seen first hand the difference between the kids (now adults) who were raised by parents (particularly mums) who didn’t communicate the immense privilege that their families enjoyed. The sense of entitlement from these kids is overwhelming, making them completely unemployable in the modern world.

    I find most people that raise eyebrows on luxury purchases for women only feel they're frivolous because they're "girly" or don't have any value to the individual that's judging. Whereas if you compared it to something they valued but are just as frivolous, they don't see any problems. I use myself as an example. I've only recently gotten into buying luxury stuff, but for the longest time been collecting nerd statues and firearms that range in the hundreds and thousands. Those who followed me loved that stuff. The second I bought an expensive purse however, comments came in on how boujie it was and how silly they were... I'm not sure if it's because they are ignorant to the prices of my other hobbies or because they are trained to just hate anything they don't understand. That's not to say outsiders didn't think my nerd statues were pointless either. To each their own. My point is, haters gonna hate. :D

    Maybe you're not determining the source of that guilt accurately and maybe you know deep down that you could be hoarding so many bags because of fear of losing it eventually ? I mean there's really nothing wrong with buying things that you deem valuable with the money you've earned after all money is earned to be spent. I don't know I feel like if you can address that source of guilt you can purchase things intentionally thus you wouldn't feel the need to justify yourself anymore ?

In my opinion, these types of videos scream that you are trying to convince people that you aren’t financially in debt that you aren’t financially in trouble that you aren’t financially irresponsible and you’re trying to let people know that.. again it just comes off as very insecure and almost like if you have to say it it’s not true.
