- LINUX creator Linus Torvalds was a guest of EIT Digital node Helsinki and talked with students from Aalto University. Last time when Linus was at Aalto we saw the famous finger - see what he is up to this time!

I always thought I was a total failure, but the people that made that mic give me hope.
Lol it's from a startup born at Aalto University so they are shilling it. Last I saw, that mic was for minimum 400€ per piece... Not kidding.
It's a mixing problem, not the cube mic. The audio feet is not connected to the recording, but only the speakers
@@SuperChooser123 are you part of the people that made that mic that gave that poor man hope? That's a nice accomplishment to give hope to debianists, we need it.
(debian is in fact 80% hope powered, devouring user/maintainer dreams to sustain itself, don't tell people)
@@SuperChooser123 Yeah at the seccond question you can hear the speakers.
Hey, when you introduce a fancy microphone like that, at least make sure it actually works.
its still micos 1 unstable
I was about to comment, then I found my self replying to you :p
I thought it was my cell phone speaker. Thanks for the comment...whew (wipes sweat from brow).
It worked, but it had to be turned on. Don't expect a room full of software engineers to solve hardware problems like that.
come on, let the man rant and give fingers.
When he mentioned Google+, I noticed this video was from 8 years agk
The fact that Linus is abrasive is not rude. Anyone who's ever done a serious group problem knows that there is no time for pleasantries and if you can stop the group from going down the wrong path you do so as fast as possible. I've heard "that's stupid Abstract, because this" so many times, and have said the same to others. True scientists and engineers don't get offended, they get enlightened.
This conversation was way more moderated. The guy speaks far better with no moderation.
thank you linus
26:24 Raspberry Pi is a 35-dollar Linux computer; Raspberry P.I. is a fruit that solves mysteries. Both are equally awesome.
Switched to Pi4 from Mac and Win. Not because of a price. The only problem is printing.
@@andreychizov8201 I mean if you don't need a large desktop, then yeah Pi4 can do a fuck ton of things a Windows or Mac dekstop/laptop can do.
It's quite an impressive little machine!
damn, I was 17 when this was going on time flies
legend.
Great expirimental mic
I have watched this until the end.
College for "innovation" cannot get a Mic working properly.
The fact that the mucrophone doesn't work is hilarious.
It’s spelled microphone you fucking idiot
23:17 ; pink i'm watching you girl
A Companion Cube would have been a far better toss-mic here.
Because they are streaming it to youtube and uploading it to youtube! Most people who use youtube are english/
Is that iPad 1? :D
Google+, huh? Now that's blast from the past!
5:00 how many línea of conde he adds everyday
I wish one day I will be like him.. to come up with something that benefits the world.
Hey!
don't work for a corporation then. all they exist for is to maximize income, productivity and innovation is costly and unpredictable and no one actually wants to pay for (though everyone benefits)
What have you now become?
Thank you Mr. Torvalds for Linux
3:02 that's how you pronounce thr correctly
45:20 Valve on Linux question
He's been running Suse more recently, but he hated both Suse and Fedora. Nobody knows what he's running now.
Starts at 3:53
"So, all the people who clapped because you hate math, you're wrong!" 11:45
48:30 how to get over procastination
linus a hero
Watch it from the android phone in 2021, desktop: fedora, work notebook: fedora
why are they speaking english? are they on finland right?
he said he despises fish, but later he said he loves scuba diving and only wants to vacation somewhere where there's colorful fish to see 😓lmao
WTF? That microphone doesn't work? What was the first question?
The microphone works as seen later on when a kid on the left front rows spoke.
Looks like you have to talk quite loudly for it to pick up the audio.
So much for a modern mic...
If Steam Box gonna work then for sure :)
lol
I wonder how many times Linus cursed after the University of Minnesota incident
Or just to make "That little 'dent' in the universe"
"No fingers this time"
omfg, iPad with mr Linus?!
lmao.
That mic box is useless.
Questions through an app during a live talk. That is such bad engagement strategy sigh
The fluffy mic also weird because normally someone would want to use hands for gestures.
He is super cute hihi
he should really write a book about working in open source projects
we need other Linus, this one is getting older and unaware. any candidate?
39:21
3:55 just for fun book
It's funny with all those CS people there, everyone forgot to turn on the fluffy microphone cube. Too bad it was a hardware problem.
Last time i checked he ran Fedora 18 on a MacBook Air? He said he doesnt like the MBP.
I'm pretty sure he usually uses Apple hardware. On his G+ he stated that he uses a Macbook Pro I believe.
#LinusEIT
1:08:00 who pays him
Ok, no fingers! 😂
That moderator is talking waaaaaayyyy to much.
More an interview than a discussion
18:40 ... and fridges.
13:53 hahahahaha
3:18 That would not fly in 2020, literally 🤣
I though it was something hidden in toilet paper pack - like a geek joke.
28:25 ish I wish I had friends who share my hobbie
If it continue like this hopefully most game in the feature will be made for Linux too (and then Windows can rot forever.
These days with proton it's getting there
59:00 money not importante.
He is much better than Richard stallman who actually just want us to go in ancient period......
Richard Stallman talks a whole bunch of philosophy without any actual actionable ideas, I have waaaay less respect for him tbh. I also can't stand how he tries to make everyone call Linux GNU/Linux, which is straight up misleading. There are plenty of versions of Linux which don't use GNU tools, and by the technical definition of an OS the Kernel itself IS an OS. Stallman is just good at using rhetoric to get people fired up over causes, and why he gets dumb sheep to bleat his bullshit "erm actually its gnu/linux not linux " 🤓talking points.
is this filmed in india?
are you stupid?
another torvalds talk. Kreygasm. Also, overmoderation.
56:19
i might be a failure :(
39:21 talks about security
I hope that Linus, or somebody,, one day makes standard for Linux distribution. Not related to "The Kernel", but there should be A standard for Linux distributions, For package manament and so. To get big software companys (like Autodesk) to make their software available to Linux based systems. It really is too big job to any developer to give support to all those millions of Linux distriputions. That's only reason why we don't have Fusion 360/Inventor/Solid works or that kind of software at Linux. And this is why Linux is NEVER (until there is standards) going to be main OS at that kind on business.
FreeCAD or any other opensource "3d cads" is NEVER, NEVER going to be at "the level".
- Linux user since 1994
Yes, i understand and appreciate this.
Actually there should be more then 1 standard I believe. Mac OS is very good at this, they even have their operating system updates as a installing and running a new app. Now that aproach is very far away at the moment, even with appimage, flatpak, snaps etc. but it should clearly be made even for drivers and so on. I have no idea whether this will work for kernel modules or drivers or so on, but even if it works I believe it would not be easy to transform the whole open source world to a single binary standard. And thus there should be a standardised repository not for a single operating system but for everyone.
You mean sth such as AppImage? It's entirely possible for such compiles to support Linux, see Davinci Resolve etc, but it's for most companies just not worth the effort. Which is, at least from my point of view, understandable.
@@admniyeokuyorsun...3044 " even with appimage, flatpak, snaps etc" you needing to include this is just supports the point of OP
Are you sure about that? If I'm not wrong, CATIA V4 is only available for Linux? I might be wrong
I still don't get the point of people sharing cat videos and pictures on the internet. It's not the sharing as such, but it's become a widely accepted mass-movement if you will.
What the fuck is the craze all about?
1:00:00 lol
What's with all the cat questions? I wish people had left the cutsey internet culture stuff at the door.
09:11 finger denied :D
No fingers? disappointing
What makes you think that? The title clearly says Finland, and they are all white and speaking perfect English.
Wow, what a blown opportunity by the university, just to plug some student's STUPID startup idea with that mic cube. Almost completely ruins the QnA.
It was something to do with Macbooks. That's all I remember. lol
The new systemd has f.. holes
Embarrassing microphone... Come on everyone... Test, test, and test your tests...
He build an open source OS. Now he is glorified for doing such a remarkable good.
Linus has nothing to do with operating systems, just the Kernel.
Sin sin sin stop sinning Guy
YOU stop sinning. Why are you worried about the speck in your neighbors eye and not the plank in your own?
I bet Torvalds is useing Windows ... Exclusively! Anyone agree?
no
lol
