I bought the 2022 Trail Boss rather than the ZR2 because I wanted a standard bed that I could put a topper on and sleep in the back when on hunting trips. Since the ZR2 only comes in short bed, that is too short for me to lie down in (unless I lied diagonally and I did not want that).

@@BenKlassen1 Different laws for different countries. Where I live it's strictly forbidden to hunt/seek out/chase animals from a vehicle.
You park your vehicle in the woods and then begin your hunting (which can be miles away from where you actually shoot an animal).
Many animals are also not scared of some sounds. When I ride my 2-stroke enduro in the woods the moose/deers don't really care.

I test drove the F150, Ram, and SIlverado yesterday. The Silverado has by far the best interior though those Ford massaging seats are amazing. I am leaning towards the trail boss/diesel. It is 10K cheaper. I don't really need fr/r lockers and an upgraded suspension. I have a built Jeep for real off-roading.

If ZR2 make their trim available on diesel I would defintely get one; otherwise I am not interested rather than the trail boss. I wish I was trim savy before getting my truck; I Got the LT all star diesel edition which is a very beautiful truck but now I am debating to go on and actually exchange it for a trail boss diesel. I think you’re underestimating the benefits of selectable lockers, while I do agree that the Boss is always customizable, and full size trucks will hardly see rock crawling, in some situations predictable accession is more favorable than an open differential and locking up after a couple of rotations. If an AEV conversion is to be available, I can’t see them accepting the conversion without the diesel as an option, and I think that a $75k diesel silver bison would be the ultimate version of this truck.

I have a 2019 LTZ Z71 5.3 with the heavy automatic running boards, and my payload capacity is 1734lbs and towing is 9634lbs. About 300lbs more. That really makes a big difference when hauling a camper kids and dog and gear. Still way better than a Raptor or TRX, and F150s silly high towing capacity with low payload. Tongue weight is always added to the payload and is usually 10-15% Chevy does this right Ford is just marketing. What good is towing capacity if you can’t haul anyone or stuff with you. i actually like the 2019 front end better than the new trail boss, although the ZR2 looks really good. Different colours and I would stick with the 18s, but I really like the tire on the 20s mind you, but these are personal choices. The truck this guy has here is a beautiful truck!! Thanks for sharing it with us!
I drive a F150 Tremor with the Torsen front differential. I can use the rear locker in 4 high or 4 low, and the Torsen is always ther waiting to help out when needed, so I’m not as limited to the use. The Eaton automatic locker (option code G80) is ther in any setting 2wd 4x4 high or low,,,, no matter what, all the time. Once you get used to it, the system works very well. You just have to learn to be comfortable with wheel spin and then once it locks, keep the pressure on to the rear axel. It is an easy system. That’s why GM has been using a form of it since the 60s. It works.
I’m happy with the F150 Tremor, but actually prefer the looks and interiors of the new Chevy trucks, especially the Trail Boss and ZR2. I did get the loaded (mostly for its level), but XLT level interior in the truck. It means I paid a little less than what the Trail Boss cost here. I prefer a fabric seat over leather and GM seats are the truck’s biggest downfall to me. Not a dealbreaker, but close. I did get the 2.0kw Pro Power Onboard as I had a PowerBoost F150 Lariat before and use the system all the time, but didn’t use more than 2kw so it works for me!!
Both trucks here are very nice but the 3.0 Duramax would seal the deal for me!! The Trail Boss is the better truck here,,,, for my needs.

Since there are now more and more outdoor enthusiasts world-wide, If GM was smart. They would revive the Avalanche in Gasoline or diesel then later on in EV.
You have tons of bed space when the rear is folded and opened up and you can even enclose it to camp in and still have access to the cabin. You can drive off quickly if any emergency. With a regular truck you have to get out from the bed area then hop back around into the cabin. Something to think about.

The best would be the ZR2 with the duramax but it's not available as of now. I really like the TB with the duramax, but it's a bit pricey for 62k. I have a 2020 5.3 10 speed 2LT TB with all the options and I would love to trade it in for the new one with the duramax, however I paid 49k for mine with 7700 off msrp at the time and these new trucks are over 60k now😮

I got the ZR2 over the trail boss. Surprisingly, you can find 2023 ZR2's brand new on the lot at the same price as the 2024 TB. I got out the door taxes and everything at 66K for a brand new 2023 ZR2. Although, I did get employee pricing because my bro in law is an employee. The interior totally sold me. The stitching on the interior just screamed quality. The TB looked a bit more like plastic all around. The TB even had a sun roof, but the rest of the interior wasn't even close.

Not a fan of automatic floor shifters so that would've been a deal killer but the display is also too big imo. I looked at the TRX and between the shifter and the display being distracting and too busy, ended up going with Chevy again with no regrets. That and oh yeah, the price tag on the TRX😉 What a time we're living in with all these great ass trucks though

I wonder if Chevy / GMC will make a truck that would compete with the TRX or Raptor R? The current line up doesn't even compare.

    • @shitloveaduck
      @shitloveaduck 2 роки тому +1

Before the microchip shortage Ford was actually discounting the Raptor as the could produce more than the market demanded. Now there’s the TRX adding a vehicle to a niche that was possibly oversubscribed already. A 3rd player would be nice for choice, but not a good choice for profitability and sales volumes. I believe that’s why they didn’t go all out. I respect the decision as I’m not such a fan of the product as others are. I’m not exactly brand loyal but I have been driving Ford over the others due to price for content, and now that content includes Pro Power onboard, which I truly use!! A lot. Otherwise, the amount of Chevy truck you can get for the $$$ makes the decision a no brainer. In fact I run with a stubby truck camper, but could just as easily convert a topper carrying truck into what I need and be happy. That is less than the camper and the truck is less, so much so that I can build my own system that’s solar based to power things. 3 flexible solar panels @ 175 watts each (525 watts total) a 400 ah LiFePO4 battery, charge controller and 2500 watt inverter (you could go 3000 watts even). Don’t even need to use the truck’s system to charge up! (I would hook it up to the charging system of the truck though).
Vs what I have paid you will still be a few thousand ahead of the game. I already had the camper and bought a F150 Tremor with the Torsen front differential before the ZR2 was available. I’m gonna stick with it for a few years at least. The F150 Tremor as equipped does 95% of what the ZR2 dies in the rocks and actually will outperform it in the snow and mud (you can still steer vs lockers that make steering difficult) so it’s a +- thing. It exceeds my needs and if you need the extra 5% on the rocks, the ZR2 is available. The ZR2 is expensive though. My Tremor is finished to the XLT level, but with most if not all, options available at that level and was thousands less than a ZR2 that the dealer quoted me on for price if I were to order one.
Anyways, to each their own. I have gone way off topic,,,,,, 😂😂
Please stay safe out there, Eh!

@@shitloveaduck great info and it makes sense. I know guys with Raptor trucks and I've driven them. They are very capable offload but I cannot stand that Ecoboost engine. They should have stuck a Coyote 5.0 in that truck. I would have bought one if they did.

    • @shitloveaduck

@@jasonpitts8395 - Thanks. I have had the original Raptor, a 2012 SuperCab with the 6.2. I bought it after I already had a 2019 Raptor SuperCab with the 450 hp EcoBoost. I had similar thoughts, but then the 6.2 was underpowered in comparison (it really wasn’t, but it’s hard to go down). I supercharged the 6.2, and then it has the power, but I guess I was used to the EcoBoost by then and actually preferred it. The torques is so way down low in the revs. The 6.2 and especially 5.0 have their torque happening much higher in the rev band. I don’t discredit the 5.0 as a motor, but it would definitely feel underpowered to the HO 3.5 EcoBoost. You would need to supercharge it, but even then the 3.5 HO can outperform many of the supercharged model 5.0s because of the launch. Maybe not in the 1/4 mile, but at legal speeds it has 70% of the torque at 1300 Rpm and that full 510 lift of torque at 3,000 rpm. The 5.0 peaks well over 4,000 rpm and i takes longer to get to the 70% even. There’s a drone to the 3.5 when you are off-road that many don’t like, I understand, but as far as actual performance, it really does outperform the 5.0 significantly.
I am a retired Rancher/LEO (did both at the same time 4 as LEO then 4 days as rancher and so on) had a tire shop too, but a good manager so it was mostly hands off for me. The Ranch was 8800 acres with a 25000 head feedlot as well. I needed a good number of employees and trucks. I ran Fords from 98 on due to reliability, but more so price. Every time I put a truck bid out to the dealers, Ford came back with the best bang for the buck. I had all 5.0 trucks in my 1/2 tons after it came out for 2011. Then my buddy that owned the dealership slipped 2 trucks with the 2.7 equipped the same as the 2 trucks with the 5.0 I had just received. I ordered 4 but all 5.0. He had the other 2 on the lot if I really hated the 2.7s. Once the guys figured out the differences, they argued about so gets the 2.7 OVER the 5.0. The 2.7 was much torquier than the 5.0 and since the trucks rarely saw over 50 mph, the 5.0 didn’t get a chance to shine. My personal truck was a 5.0 work tuck and I loved it. After about 6 months I brought my main crew of 6 guys (I employed over 20 people there but many were transient, goes with the industry). I asked them about the 2 trucks and their preferences. They all loved the 5.0 for a personal truck, but 5 out of 6 preferred the 2.7 in the work truck. The torque was the thing. The trucks always had 300-500 lbs of tools and gear in them, were hauling hay, straw, fence posts, whatever, and often a trailer was needed for greater capacity. They were doing this on 2 track and worse. The 2.7 shone at these speeds. They preferred the 5.0 when towing at highway speeds. The fuel was a big thing for the business. Even though the 2.7s were the first chosen, they were about 10% better in fuel consumption. Month after month for the last 4 months prior. The first 2 months the guys were getting used to them. It floored me!!! I had not really driven the 2.7s. I had my Raptor by then (kind of a retirement gift to myself) and loved it, but off-road there seemed to be a bit of hesitation for the turbos to spool up, but it was ever so slight. In 4x4 low it really wasn’t an issue.
I think it takes getting used to, but overall it’s a better performing engine. The getting used to part is where guys that truly drive both motors form their opinion. It’s either instant or some accept the difference and give the EcoBoost a try. I determined the 3.5s differences were far outweighed by the benefits. Now I will get one more 5.0 truck. It’s going to be a Lariat 2wd 5.0 and I will go with the Roush Supercharger and performance equipment. I will also lower it, throw on a colour matching topper finished in the box as well and it will be a toy. Hopefully there’s an interior update before they cancel the 5.0. I’m not a huge fan of the Ford interior now that the competition has upped their game.
Sorry, another long comment. I loved the 5.0 since day one, but the EcoBoost, especially the 3.5, has grown on me and is definitely the better performer. Wonder if the 5.8 rumours are true. The factory is here in Canada and they signed on to produce the Ford V8s for the next 10 years, so,,,,,.
