I was born and raised in Terre Haute, and yes, it is definitely the left arm pit of Indiana. If it weren't for the two colleges, there would be no Terre Haute. It's like Terre Haute has a moving rash or something. Once the North side flourished, then everything went South, now the hot spot is the South East side, where the new casino is being built. Just what every dying city needs, a place to gamble away all your money.

Parts of Terre Haute look fine, but in others, you can tell many buildings have been torn down. I really liked this video!😊❤

My wife and I were born in Terre Haute. My wife grew up in Terre Haute, while my family moved to Clay County (about 15 miles away). I had a lot of family and friends who lived in Terre Haute, so needless to say I am very familiar with the area and spent a lot of time there. I went in the Air Force in the early 70's and have since lived in 8 other States and 2 Countries. My wife and I, every once in a while, return to Terre Haute and are always taken back by how much everything has changed (especially the empty lots where houses use to be). My grandmother graduated from the "Teachers College" before it was ISU. My grandfather was a fireman in Terre Haute and died from injuries from a firetruck accident (long before I was born). My dad worked at the Tribune Star newspaper for years, while I was growing up. My dad used to tell me that during the prohibition years, Terre Haute was called "Little Chicago." Even with the changes in Terre Haute, I still recognize many of the areas and buildings that your video showed. While your videos of Terre Haute are a little sad today, it was still good to get to see them -- thanks for sharing.

Just finished watching BOTH videos of my hometown with my grand kids and we had to laugh! I was born & raised southside from 46 to 23rd Street area between Hulman and Margaret Avenues and it wasn't shown & my 3 y.o. great granddaughter said, "It's because of ALL the train's Gigi!" Lol
Our family farm was off of Fruitridge & Margaret Avenue on what is now called I believe Bloomberg Estates or something like that!
Either way I'm not busting chops just thought they were good video's 👍

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the vid’s! Was actually going to go east on Hulman for a little ways but your great granddaughter was right, the trains. Lol.

Hmm, I remember "the girls of Terra Haute" in playboy, the place did not seem like the armpit of indiana when I was last there, about 30 years ago.......

I've heard some really good elevator music unfortunately this isn't one of the better tunes. This one really doesn't sound like an elevator song it sounds more like a really bad Thomas Dolby song that he couldn't come up with lyrics for.

When you was on the intersection of liberty and north 15th street, you missed 4 Civil War era houses. They are unique and their design isn't found anywhere except Terre haute. Mine is one of those unique homes currently being restored. The gentleman's club with dancers is no longer open. The building has been bought by union hospital
