Excuse my lateness to the party. I was unfamiliar with Bruch's first violin symphony. Had to listen to it several times. Bruch was such a gifted musician and had such a tragic life. The back story to this pieces is especially sad. I still prefer his Scottish Fantasy, but that's probably because I could see CJK's expressive face in that performance. But this piece is very good. And, I'll come back to it. Hopefully with an unmasked CJK. Production: The audio is very, very good: well balanced, clear and free from outside noises. The video could stand some improvement. While the editing is good, the camera work on the soloist is particularly choppy. The staging was so-so. So, it beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, but so many others (French, Koreans) have really figured this out. Verdict: A great performance of an important work, marred by the masks. I'm sure they're necessary, but they so detract from the full enjoyment of the performance -- like eating dinner with a clothespin on your nose. I can't wait for all of this to go away. One of the joys of UA-cam is being able to actually see the performers submerge themselves into the music. Can't wait for that to return. As always, thank you so much for sharing this.
