Of my youth and beyond. I kept buying their albums and going to as many of their shows as I could. My wife and I got into into an argument about it. Her, "Haven't you seen Rush enough?" Me, "I'll tell you when I've seen them enough." Then a few years later when news of Neil's passing broke, I said to her with tears in my eyes, "Honey, now I have seen Rush enough times. But, I'm very sad about it." She hugged me. And a very loving hug it was. We do have one child, a son. When he was 7 I took him to his first concert. Yes, of course it was Rush! The Snakes And Arrows Tour. When the show ended he tugged on my sleeve and said, "Father, I want to learn how to play the drums." 😂 "That's my fault, son. Bringing you to see the best drummer that's ever lived." I bought him a used kit. It was a nice one. The bugger never touched it!! I did. He didn't. It wasn't meant to be
2112 was released when I was a high school sophomore. I was too young to drive but would catch a ride home with friends. For 3 or 4 weeks that spring several of us pre-wound our cassettes and 8 tracks to the 1:30 point on this track (no time shown on the tape players, maybe a counter if you had a higher end cassette). Then as we were leaving the school parking lot at the end of the day we'd crank this and roll out thinking we were some sort of caravan of cool. Anyone remember 6x9 Jensen's? The speakers everyone had to have.
Zoetropeification wow that was a very familiar great flashback you just gave me! memories that I haven't recalled in a long long time...exactly why Im listening to this tune right now! high school parking lot Louisville KY 1982...life was great!
❤⚘🎭The Meek ☆re Low Key. Invisible. They are allegedly 3% of Earth's Population, Possess the largest percentage of the world's currency. The majority of population don't know their names or what their appearance is. Two names come to mind. America's Rockefeller & Greet Britain's Rothchilds. Tip of the iceberg or pyramid. We know so very little about them, yet, they pretty much know everything about all of us. Thank 🎈You Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerman. 🖤YUP
Thats not the true translation though. From the greek, the origin translation from that passage means "Those who bear the swords but keep them sheathed, those shall Inherit the Earth" The ones capable on having the power to take down the "monsters", but not use that power for evil, those will lead the world to a better future.
I remember when this first came out. Yeah, I'm old. I was in middle school at the time. First Rush album I ever bought and was immediately hooked. Been a fan ever since. Seen them live about 2 dozen times. Lots of great memories. RIP Neil
Wow! what an interesting and entertaining piece of music. I've Listened to it 4 times in a row. I don't understand how I have never heard it before. I like "Rush", I listen to their music regularly but this song seemed to escape me until tonight.
I remember I used to have an mp3 player when I was younger and I always skipped this song for some reason.. I guess I just didn't like the first few seconds but once I actually gave it a chance and 0:47 hit, it became one of my all time favorite songs.
+e30rik ya. happened to all of us as a kid. I used to listen to Latter Days, and always skip straight to Stairway to Heaven. took me about a year to figure out there were other songs.
+e30rik same, i remember the first time i listened to this song, the whole of 2112, it was my dad and i, he looks at me and goes, "wanna hear my favorite rush song?" he starts playing this. sat through the overture before temple of syrinx starts, like most kids thinking, "eugh, i hate only instrumental parts." but then it picks up, and man. i love this song now. its my favorite now, too.
I was at the RUSH/ 2112 show down at Cobo Hall Detroit Mi. If you listen at 4:20 above you can hear what was at the time the largest indoor pyrotechnics blast on record. It was deafening and blinding. I was lighting a big fat joint at the same time the flash pods went off all the way down the front of the stage with one Gigantic blast from the bass drums.I thought I blew the place up. So when Geddy sings "the meek shall inherit the earth" the whole place was stunned silly.... add that to a great buzz we had and it is still one of my best nights ever. some 40 years later. Can anybody back me up on this story??
This song brings back such memories! Love the music. It's a modern day masterpiece. Rush is awesome and I appreciate each of the three band members. Neil Peart is an amazing drummer, Alex Lifeson rocks on the guitar and Geddy Lee is a great frontman. They blend together so well. That's why they've been together, making amazing music for so long!
my first concert in chicago 77 or78 loved it still the best ive ever seen those drums those guitars and gettys voice are so perfect i warped my album back then
To anyone who says Canada is inferior to the U.S. (I'm a U.S. American incidentally), I give you Rush and I give you the CFL. Most of my countrymen mock that which they don't understand.
Saw them last night in columbus, best Live show I have ever been too. Tickets were 76 bucks but OMG, no opening band and they performed for about 3 hours. so many songs and spot on Live. Go see them if you ever get the chance!
I remember buying 2112 way back when i was a mere boy and a beardless youth, i have since kissed them both goodbye! I am now clean shaven and thankfully been Rush free ever since.
When I first heard this song, I was well on my way to a promising career as a phrenologist. Now, I am a lowly technician working on these state of the 1976 art computers here in the hallowed halls of the Temples of Syrinx. Damn you straight to Hades, Rush!
This shit rocks. This is the Rush I love. I get not really digging Ged's voice, but the way I see it, the lyrics he sang, and the music that supported the message, was great. Alex has always been a huge influence on my playing, too.
i grew up in Pt.Dalhousie.. same age..same time period.. went to same school with Neil..followed him around in the local bands he was in(The Majority,Jr Flood Doc Savage etc).. and later on became a drummer myself and we were rival drummers in different bands ( but known to each other).. hung out some at Tasty Treat..downing burgers and cokes and talking music for hours on end...he then got in with Starlord (local band) and THE quit to go to Toronto to get in with some band called "Rush"..a friend replaced him.. and i replaced the friend for a short period when he broke his arm... as i did also Neil in Doc Savage when he left them too... and later in 1973,i replaced him in an act called Westfauster .... seemed as if i was constantly following him when he left something.. THE DRUM PROFESSOR LIVES FOREVER IN MUSIC!
If 2112 was a movie, it would be the best movie ever.
Guitar Hero made a little story thing about 2112.
kenny kliff Films are better than books in the VAST majority of cases. It's just a fact. haha ;)

Stratahoovius Um... no, almost everyone will tell you the books are better than their film counterparts in almost every case.
BoySamusMetroid I was joking. Probably didn't come across as an attempt at humour, sorry about that. Haha ;)
Stratahoovius Ah, my mistake.
Neil Peart R.I.P. Thank you for the Music of my Youth

Hands down, Neil Peart is the best drummer of all time!
i'm sure Danny Carey would have something to say about that.
So would Keith Moon and Animal.
Kevin Blount Not sure if by "Animal" you're actually inferring Mick Fleetwood, but either way I agree.
animal is a drumming puppet
Devand MacLean
animal is a drumming puppet
This song/album is high on the bad ass list
Neil Pert is one of the greatest drummers period. Plus he wrote every song by Rush.
That's fucking massive talent.
All these years later and I still can't get enough of this song...

Man, Iove Geddy Lee's voice!
Saw Rush perform this live last night....my life is now complete!
Man, I could listen to 4:45- on a loop for hours.
Oh dear, I think Rush might have portrayed totalitarian kitsch a little too well...
I live for 1:31 - 1:59
