The question isn’t, “How much was the order.” The question is, “How far was the delivery,” because a $5 tip on a $20 order is nothing if the driver is going to have to spend 30 minutes picking up your order and driving across town. But sometimes, they get stuck taking those orders because if they turn them down, and their acceptance rate gets too low, then the get offered even worse orders and are unable to even be offered high-paying orders. As someone that does delivery, I can understand his gripe. We don't know how long he had to wait for the order or what kind of traffic or distance he went through to deliver it. When you are delivering, time is money. It is gas and it is potential earnings. It doesn't matter to a delivery person how much your order costs you, it takes times regardless. It is a service people are paying for and if getting shit service is their goal then, by all means, don't tip well.
As a former delivery driver, that made me so mad. 5 on 20 is literally 25 percent, a very generous tip. And even if the tip is low, you still make at least 12 an hour base pay just to drive around, listen to music, and drop off pizza. Not a tough job lol

Yep, agree - on every point. I always wound up eating at places where tipping isn't a thing (fast food joints). Or places that has clear "gratuity included"-signs. If I would ever be inclined to leave a tip it would be because the service and/or the food was above and beyond what I was expecting. Not because the person serving me/cooking my food has a job that doesn't pay enough to earn a living... It's like US citizens are living in a system where every food item comes with a side order of guilty conscience, and even though that guilt stems from nothing they are responsible for, and even though they didn't order it, it's expected of them to pay for it. The weirdest part of this is how hard some of them will defend this system.
Remember we didn't choose this either. If I were god I'd change it. But all I can do is ensure the people working their jobs have enough money to live by tipping them. Just because a system should not exist doesn't mean you get to pretend it doesn't exist.
As a delivery driver myself, whether or not a tip is generous to me has nothing to do with how much the food costs or how rich the family in question is, all I care about is how far did I have to drive to get to you. Also you should always be polite, tipping isn't mandatory and customers who tip are basically compensating for exploitative business owners, every little bit helps and I greatly appreciate it.
Workers should demand what their worth or at least not settle. If you think you're worth $15/hr, then don't settle for a job that pays you $3.15 + tips. Fuck that business, go work somewhere you can make enough to survive. When that business owner inevitable says "nobody wants to work" you can confidently reply "No, nobody wants to work FOR YOU". Let the market wipe out shitty restaurants. I'm sorry, was it your dream to own and run a restaurant and paying living wages makes it impossible for you to live your dream? Your dream shouldn't be subsidized by customers wallets and your employees quality of life. Get good and justify your increased prices or find another dream to live. Otherwise, it's not free market capitalism. It's just exploitation.

I walked out of a mom & pop shop a couple of weeks ago because of an assumed tip. There are a lot of people who are tired of being asked to pay more on top of a listed price. It seems risky to me to continue to work in that industry due to the increased instability since the pandemic. Way to kill the planet.....
@@FireBlade57 the plane was going to leave anyways. Those other people that we're impatient caused more of a carbon footprint

That must have felt like flying in private jet :")
the stewardess were bad I would have waited too.

"Hey... Do you guys still have any (blank) or did the other passengers get them?"
I'd so make silly little jokes like this if I was the sole passenger on a plane.
I'd also make a wee crack saying "Well, I guess we don't have to worry about chairs being kicked."
Btw, does he get to automatically upgrade to First Class, seeing as nobody but the crew is there anyway? Or is it just the perfect Coach flight experience?
as a swede (swedes in general are quite anxious people) i have never been more terrified as I was when I traveld across the states and was subjected to your 'tipping system' its so weird...just pay your staff.
I don't understand how it's even legal.
It should not be the customer's job to pay your own employees a living wage.
Lots of comments elsewhere saying, "She should tip him bceause he doesnt get paid much". Meanwhile, offstage, the employer is chuckling away. *They* are the ones who should be paying him more, not the customer
Yea its absolute garbage. Just a great way to make the populous pay their employees wages smh
Remember we didn't choose this either. If I were god I'd change it. But all I can do is ensure the people working their jobs have enough money to live by tipping them. Just because a system should not exist doesn't mean you get to pretend it doesn't exist.
1:07 bro pulled a chair... what a chad!
@@lindseyhensley6948 I work this job because its the best available to me that I can tolerate. Not everyone can just "get another job" and as long as I do make tips I can make more than most minimum wage jobs anyway. No this has to be regulated by the government, it won't be fixed by people choosing to work elsewhere, especially when there are plenty of unemployed people willing to take my place.
@@spyfire242 What will you do then when a majority of people become tip fatigued? A lot of consumers are just tired of tipping for everything everywhere. It's one of the reasons why more consumers are choosing to go to take out / fast food places.
I personally have not gone to a sit down restaurant or a coffee shop in the past 2ish years. I walked out of a mom & pop shop a couple of weeks ago because of an assumed tip. There are a lot of people who are tired of being asked to pay more on top of a listed price.
It seems risky to me to continue to work in that industry due to the increased instability since the pandemic. To each their own though - I hope it continues to work out for you, but I would be remise if I didn't admit that I hope about 25% of current restaurants on the market went under. Quality is awful 9/10 since the pandemic with owners saying "quality has been reduced to keep prices low". I'm sorry, but at a certain point, it doesn't matter how cheap your sandwiches are if every ingredient going into them is complete shit and it tastes worse than something I could have eaten in school growing up.
But that's just me.
This kind of got ranty - sorry bout that.
@@lindseyhensley6948 You're underestimating the number of folks who WILL work for $3,15 + tips. The business won't go broke. If there's no minimum set wage, then folks will basically auction off their labour for the lowest price they are willing to go. If one person isn't happy with that hourly rate, they absolutely can (and should) go somewhere else where possible, but assuming that there isn't *someone* out there who is willing to work for crappy wages is naive.
