@@nickneal8676 the game is probably better than the movie but also, kind of a video game equivalent of the film in terms of its ability to execute a vision
It would be cool if someone made an animated series or movie with the dialogue used in the game. It’s so much dialogue that we wouldn’t need any new voice actors, plus the soundtrack is already amazing
@@ktkballer6640 that’s so true, this was completely awesome, and everyone WISHES THAT MOVIES WOULD BE AS GOOD AS THIS AWESOME GAME’S STORYLINE, imagine Black Cat, CEO, Anti-Venom, and Atrocity
I think it's the reason I'm so accepting of the TASM 1 suit, it's cool and kinda creepy, just like a spider. I also like the wrinkly texture and how ripped it makes him look. This is definitely my favorite interpretation of the costume.
The messy wedding is my favorite as well. Usually, I prefer a spider suit with brighter colors, but I think all the elements really come together well with this look
It really made the suit cool and unique. TASM2 game keeps the EoT suit, but the 2018 Spiderman game really downgraded the suit with some very noticable changes like the rubber material, the missing glowing spider on the back, and the light effect on the costume, however atleast they added the new 2099 suit which looks good.
I think the black cat portion, while you’re probably right with it being tacked on due to a lack of boss fights, has a purpose within the story. it’s meant to physically demonstrate how twisted this ceo peter parker is and how his desire to “save” all his loved ones will probably end up just like this black cat clone. it shows that ceo parker is not reliable at all and would’ve screwed up any attempt to be a hero and save his loved ones.
@@Yuki-qs5mt Does he really? I’m having issue believing the Christian Message but also a problem with having being unable to pick a side. The two sides are atheistic agnostic or a Christian
Also, I really like that part where peter puts all his strength into knocking Eddie down with a single punch despite his weakend state. It shows how peter is much stronger than he let's on, but holds back because he doesn't want to kill anyone. Yeah Eddie still got back up, but the fact he got knocked down pretty hard from that state is amazing as is.
The genius of hiring a big name like Val Kilmer is to throw the player off. Surely the famous actor is the big bad. And then to have that rug pulled out from under you is so good. Wish more games did this.
The CEO's trying to keep his loved ones alive long after they're supposed to die and is willing to damn himself and the world to do it, instead of dealing it with it like an adult. It's One More Day's characterization of a selfish Peter as a fully fledged villain.
True, although I’d argue that the CEO at least has the benefit of using his intelligence as a scientist to do it, meaning that his justification has a more understandable basis within continuity. Instead of simple childishness, it’s rather pure and unapologetic selfishness born of the innate possibility that his wants actually CAN happen. Meanwhile, OMD Peter simply threw a temper tantrum when told that what he wanted was impossible. Numerous beings more powerful than him (including the One Above All) told him that saving May couldn’t be done, but he never took no for an answer. THAT is far more childish than anything than the CEO could ever be. Unlike OMD Peter, CEO Peter knew what he was getting himself into, he just didn’t care.
@@stanfordfeynman2796 Very true, I was thinking they come from a similar place. What the CEO did to Black Cat doesn't seem too much different from what OMD!Peter put May and MJ through when he made his deal with Mephisto. Kinda makes me wish Peter got to fight an opponent like that in the comics, just this horribly selfish manchild putting a mirror to his own actions.
I wish OMD had a villain like that screwing with time or reality, to allow Peter to reflect on how stupid it would be to use mystic or other means to prevent May's death. Also, it STILL feels like bull that she couldn't be saved.

When the guy who made the character wrote the game, it’s not exactly surprising Miguel is so comic accurate. All that’s really changed for the guy is the medium he’s being written for.
I got this game in the mail last week. I'm almost done playing Shattered Dimensions after buying that game because of watching your retrospective. I've been eagerly anticipating your next video, glad it's here and I'm still on a massive Spider-Man kick.
That’s awesome!!! You’ll have to tell me what you think of both games and if we had similar perspectives on them. This was my first time playing both of them and thought they were pretty solid. Especially for linear Spider-Man games
Shattered Dimensions was pretty awesome, though it probably could have used smarter AI and a few design tweaks to make it stand out more. Edge of time... well i didn't think it was related *directly to SD because present day peter was played a lot more straight forward than barney from HIMYM - and it was much darker over all. There were a lot of mechanics brought in from one to the other, but it was more a puzzling 3d maze most of the time - instead of artfully designed beat-em-up arenas. Also, it deals with more recent incarnations of the villains than the classic recognizable ones any casual fan might recognize. Lol still managed to get a symbiote doc oc though... what is that, the 2nd? 3rd time that happened?
I liked the subtle hints the game gave us that peter might be the villain. Mainly when peter guessed the password correctly and figured out how to restart the portal.
CEO Peter Parker in this game is a perfect, definitive take on the concept and it's sad that we didn't get so much from it as we could if it wasn't rushed. Josh Keaton is perfect for it and it's hard to believe that it's same voice actor as young Peter and it's already gives well written dialogue justice. Peter David nailed it with characterisation: "With great power comes great responsibility, and great opportunity. And the only way to live up to all that responsibility, is to use every opportunity to get all the power". The only aspect I think is flawed is "serum mixed his mind", but it doesn't come out in the story and I like the idea of Parker just falling this low as his own choice while seeing it as extension of his moral code. Man, I would love just any game or reference of evil Peter Parker from this game, because, like I said earlier, it is a perfect take on "evil CEO Parker" which is played sometimes in comics, but never explored so well or given enough attention on how it is fundamentally changes Peter's way of thinking.
that quote is fuckin baller. what the hell. that’s exactly the kind of doublethink that creates authoritarians. on its face it’s incredible writing- but it’s made even better by the fact that the first half is written by somebody else! to take such a powerful and well-known phrase and twist it in a way that seems so true to the character is the mark of a brilliant writer.
I had this game on the 3ds when it came out and i remember it had a super cool feature where whenever spider-man changed the future you could see it in the other screen so it didn’t interfere with gameplay. super cool idea and it was well executed. I had never seen it played on console and its crazy to see how similar they are!
I've always been shocked by the 3ds version myself, its damn impressive. TASM 1 game got a similar treatment - basically 1 to 1, worse graphics. Without mentioning the stellar metroidvanias that Web of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions, and Edge of time received on the DS. Know there was a TASM one too, but I never played much. Other three though, fantastic
@@McLovin-Chan if it helps make any sense, 3DS cards could hold about 8gb max, same as 360 discs. So on a data level, not impossible. However, on the hardware side, it's an incredible achievement. Nintendo themselves only really trusted the system with uprezzed N64 games, as anything afterwards would seem like a down-grade from the original release. Then Activision bursts through the wall like the Kool-Aid man and does a day 1, 1 to 1 port of a brand new console title. Twice. Sure it looks pretty rough, and the fog they needed to put in the black cat fight reaches superman 64 levels, but literally every single other aspect is spot on. Couldn't ask for a better job.
@@McLovin-Chan Yeah, 3DS carts were damn impressive in that regard. Granted, no game really pushed that. The largest titles still stuck to around 4-5. Sure there's a technical reason why. As for 360 Discs, remember that while the PS3 moved on to Blu Ray, 360 was stuck with basically DVDs. Did the job 90% of the time, and just like with this gen you didn't need multi-disc titles until very late into the console's lifespan. Helped that games were literally smaller - 720 to 1080p textures and files are about a 4th the size of 4k titles. If you have an Xbone with older titles in your library, look at how file size evolved through the generations. Xbox classic was around 4gb, 360 8gb, and now Forza Horizon 5 is like 250 or something. Games are going nuts trying for 4k. You basically need titles to be digital now unless you want to develop another form of optical media or make every game a 4 disc installation.
I absolutely love this game, and I didnt know about the 1 year development time they had! My biggest dissappointment with the game was buying it as a kid and then finishing the main story 4 hours later LOL. Now I understand why 😅 Story had me hooked tho. And really made me love 2099 as a character
Miguel asking Peter if he wants a 6 hour explanation of paradox theory and Pete saying yes is one of the most classic Peter Parker moments I’ve seen outside the ps4 game that didn’t involve his suffering.
I feel like Miguel got close to happy tears to finally be speaking to someone who actually likes that stuff, a real "Dod we just become best friends?" Moment.
Regarding the lack of bosses, I thought about some scenarios they could've used to add some more. They could've had Sloan put a bounty on Spider-man in the heroic age as a precaution in case Anti-Venom failed. In the future, they could've made use of the CEO having hero DNA on file, imagine fighting against Alchemax's recreation of Wolverine or Hulk.
@@alwaysnerdyretros I forgot there was an arena 😅 it's been a while since I've played this game, but yeah I agree with you there. I love the game and think it's good, but man it could've been amazing, spectacular even!
Miguel O'Hara is one of my favorite 'alternate' Spider-Men, and I'm happy he's getting attention in the next Spider-Verse movie. He was also GREAT in this game, the voice casting being a nice touch.
He's the best alternate spider-man, because he isn't Peter Parker and he isn't just Peter Parker with a different name and one or two different powers. He is the true successor to spider man
Thank you for so eloquently explaining what an unfortunate situation Beenox was placed in with this game. They did the best the could with the parameters they were given. It's unfortunate that the game wasn't received better. I love that Peter David was involved. And that Josh Keaton and Christopher Daniel Barnes were the two Spider-Man that they chose to bring back. I Platinumed this game years ago and wish I would have held onto it. Thank You for the wonderful retrospective, Nerdy.
Hey Rob! I agree, it’s a real shame Beenox were stuck with such a tight deadline. It’s actually pretty impressive what they were able to accomplish with it. I’m seeing a lot of commenters saying it’s their favorite Spider-Man game of all time! Also, thanks for watching and commenting! I always appreciate reading your perspective
@@alwaysnerdyretros Thanks for saying so! And Batman: Arkham Origins might actually be my favorite of the Arkham series. I look forward to what you have to say about it.
Peter being voiced by the actor from spectacular and Miguel is voiced by the actor from the 1994 series (or at least a similarly sounding voice) and I absolutely love it
The "Pure Honey, That's The Bees Knees" is a reference to the Bee movie tie-in game, which was also made by Beenox and I'm convinced that they picked them just because of a pun
When reviews of this game first came out, I was confused since I loved _Shattered Dimensions_ with its linear gameplay and with Peter David as writer, I figured the game would be great. I was right. The critics were just too used to sandboxes to enjoy this for what it was.
I always enjoy and respect the content you have been creating with these retrospectives, i am really excited for what is yet to come, keep doing what your doing cause its great!!!
Miguel in Spider-Verse Movie:YOU RUINED THE CANON EVENT- Miguel in this game:I got forced by Peter Parker to Save MJ Peter:Bruh I’m just tell you have to be spider man
There’s actually another reference to Shattered Dimensions. When you go to CEO Peter’s office, you can see the Stone thing that got Shattered at the start of Shattered Dimensions.
Even though the action can be repetitive, this game always seemed so underrated. I mean a game about the death of Spiderman. It’s also good to see movies taking bits and pieces from games and comics like this. Across the spiderverse did a great job of showing that contrast between Miguel and other Spidermen
If there's anything besides the writing and voice work that I liked in this game, it's the costume selection. The uneven webs on Peter's suit, and the light effects on Miguel's suit, are great details. I also learned about Miles Morales by seeing his suit in the game.
I remember discovering this game back in 2012-13 and was SHOCKED because At that point my knowledge of Spider-Man consisted of only 1994 Spider-Man and Raimi movies, I had no idea Comics existed let alone that there was a future Spider-Man. I LOVED Story of this game and the fact that THE Spider-Man was voicing Miguel well it was match made in heaven! This game singlehandedly opened the world of Spider-Man comics to me and I read 2099 comics after the game as well. Now i see sentiment that Shattered Dimension is better, but for me Edge Of time will forever be special and the best Spider-Man game along with Web Of Shadows.
I really like the Archives cutscene. It's basically Peter reinforcing his greatest lesson. With great power comes great responsibility. Miguel wanted to focus on what was important to him, reversing the time changes and saving his future, but that meant he had the power to save someone and decided not to use it for that. Something Peter absolutely would not stand for, not just because of it being MJ dying, but because that's his code, Spider-Man's code, which Miguel is ignoring.
@@alwaysnerdyretros Yeah, I know for a fact that I walked behind his desk when I first played it and I don’t remember seeing it. Probably because we weren’t looking for it.
i remember being so hyped for this game, desperately waiting for Christmas. When i got it, i screamed a lot that day. this is my fav spidey game ever :P
I really think this game could've been something special if it was given the proper time. I'd love to see another game with Spider-Man 2099 or maybe a remake of this game. Imagine what they could do today with the new graphics engine and 2 or 3 years to develop. It would be amazing
I enjoyed this game but I feel they blew their load a bit too quickly with Peter's death happening kind of early so that middle section is a long drag. The ending then picks up but by then it could of easily overstayed its welcome for a lot of people.
It would have been better if they had the Anti-Venom portion the halfway point to allow for more buildnup and the game doesn't feel meandering in the Second Act. Would also allow some further exploration into Anti-Venom, this new Timeline, perhaps include a Boss Fight with Doc Ock since he was there, and perhaps explore Sloan more as a calculating villain.
@@antman1001000 That could of worked but I can see the issues they had with the small amount of time. This was my first time learning about Anti-Venom and the game practically gives me nothing on the character. Might of been better if they just used Venom.
@@aerostrafe1075 I think why they did Anti-Venom is both to stand out on their own and because we either had the Black Suit or Venom be a main player 5 games in a row. Like damn even they probably realized it was being used way too much.
I don't know when I'll have time to watch this, but I certainly look forward to it! As someone who worked on the game, it's cool to see so much positivity here.
You’ll have to let me know what you think! I love the positivity too. This game was highly requested by the community and was the clear winner of a poll I conducted earlier. You did good Chris!
Finally watched about a week ago-great stuff! I remember there were a handful things I wanted to comment on (nothing bad, just additive), but this is the only one I can remember (which has probably been pointed out by now): That Models Inc. magazine cover is actually from a real Marvel comic called Models Inc. Look it up. It’s issue 3…of all 4 the market deemed worth producing. 😀

@@alwaysnerdyretros Oh, there’s a Spider-Ham Easter egg you missed. The Spider-Ham video on my channel has all the details there (I actually don’t remember them 😀).
This game brings back so many memories back from when I was a child. I was hooked on this game for a few months or so, I even managed to 100% complete this game too.
My favorite part of the retrospective was the voice cast part. Seeing Keaton and Barnes in action was dope! Even here in Brazil, it's considerably rare to see voice actors working together in the same room. All things considered, I think it should be more common, as it makes the dialogue feel much more realistic.
I have to say my favorite alternate suit from this game is the black suit mainly because the suit can blend in dark areas best example is in the back from the dead chapter just stand inside the door to the gate way room and ther you go.
23:39 That can be seen, in a certain way, as another connection to the prior game. In the first mission of Shattered Dimensions, Madame Web says she has enhanced Spiderman's spider-sense in order to help identify the shards and other key structural objects.
It wasn't Activision it was Marvel. They got back the rights for Spiderman games and they were like "These games are way better then ours, so let's remove them to eliminate competition 🤓"
I love the dynamic between the 2 spidermen throughout the whole game, the themes and aesthetics perfectly juxtapose with their different time periods, Hell it even plays into the gameplay, Miguel's powers can't be absorbed because it's not radiation based but bloodbased as well as his suit being made of UMF which leads to it not tearing... then you got peter over here constantly getting stomped on and getting more and more naked by the mission. At the start of the game its clear that the pair really don't like each other but at the end of the game they both become buddies and respect one another after saving each other's skin so many times. (also there's a hilarious conversation in the credits which hasn't been seen by enough people, check it out). e.g. miguel is confused why peter won't flee the building to prevent his death to which peter replies with 'because what I do matters, beyond changing hallways and elevators, it matters, and that's something I have to live with even if it means I die with it, you get it O'Hara?' to which Miguel brushes it off with a simple 'whatever.' but as the game progresses, Miguel starts to respect peter's namesake and morals and ultimately decides to save Mary Jane later in the game rather than staying at the computer which would've made both their lives so much more easier as he can influence the construction of the building to craft them a path and get them over obstacals. But what really makes this game stand out is it's self awareness of the pacing, everything feels like a rush (which is perfect considering the subtext) you're always running off to the next macguffin which help turn the tides and its fucking amazing. Not to mention, the final bosses are expertly designed, that Atrocity DNA sample mission still scares me and the final twist villain is just pure genius on the Writer's part easily, my favourite spiderman game, sure the gameplay may be repetitive at sometimes but the dialogue between the characters is something to behold and make it's replayability that much more valuable....... THERES EVEN A FIN FANG FOOM REFERENCE, PLAY THE GAME.
Thank you so much for making this video. I got this game when I was 5 years old because my parents thought all spiderman games were for kids. This game is not for kids, and I got nightmares from it. I was even stuck on the Ohara crawling mission because I didn't know how to get past the security. One day, my cousin beat the level for me, which made me able to play the rest of the game. This is my favorite game of all time because of the plot, nostalgia, music, and gameplay. I remember telling my mom how I had nightmares of Anti-Venom and how I explained the entire Edge of Time plot to my friend while we were working at a nursing home internship. I believe this game is so underrated. I would do anything to play this game again.
I will always love the cutscenes in this game. Top Teir voice acting, and the body language when you can't see their faces was done amazing, and really delivers.
This game introduced me to my second favorite symbiote, Anti-venom. I was a little boy when this came out and didn't read as much comics so this game is what made me start to read comics to learn more about anti-venom
It was the comics and this game that made me love Miguel. I always thought he was cool in design and concept. Even the twists on his powers are so badass and I clearly never deep dove into this game because there’s
I remember this coming out when i was 9 and I thought it was actually BETTER than Shattered Dimensions. The gameplay was clunky IMO, but the STORY WAS WAY TOO PERFECT FOR IT'S TIME.
Besides Sandman, you can also find Scorpion 2099 and Spider-Ham in the giant test tubes. When you enter the CEO’s office, he even has the Tablet of Order and Chaos on his desk! I love this game’s continuity Easter eggs!
It was a good game but I feel it suffered much from losing 2 Spiders. Too bad it is one of these games where its full potential couldn't be reached because of corporate rushing. Another great video and analysis.
Ah nostalgia, the feeling of shock at seeing spider-man die, the random memory I have of when I tried to skip the game’s opening bit where it shows little bits of what happened to spider-man by button mashing only to accidentally skipping straight to the first anti-venom boss, the feeling of absolute horror encountering anti-venom the first time, the memory of forgetting that game even had an upgrade menu, the annoyance I felt towards the black cat fight, and the triumph I felt after finally beating a game I had put off for like 2 years because I didn’t know what to do during the mutant zombie things were crawling to kill spider-man segment in the anti-venom fight whereas I only found out what to do after my brother showed me when he accidentally missed a dodge and got grabbed by anti-venom and was promptly smashed into one of the containers
Peter does mention Black Cat to Miguel he says something like “my ex wants to play cat and mouse” Also I think having Black Cat is an important part of showing how corrupt Future Peter has become. He says he wants to go back in time and save everyone but what if he treats them the same way he treats Future Black Cat, keeping them locked away in Alchemax to “protect” them
I love this game because Josh Keaton and Christopher Daniel Barnes are in the same recording both together I feel like I’m playing a crossover between spiderman the animated series and spectacular Spider-Man
Your videos are great to listen to while i’m at work waiting for 4pm to roll around. Thanks for the videos, they are very entertaining and well-put together.
47:53 okay I just realized something. "You're talking about power no human should have" across the Spider-verse brought up the idea of maintaining the cannon, how every Spider-Man faces specific tragedy to keep the universe intact. Miguel in that film in essence is doing exactly what CEO Peter in this game is doing. Trying to control everything under the gies of "saving everyone" That's some genuinely great writing. Difference is here Miguel learns that standing by to let someone die isn't the way Spider-Man does things. It doesn't mean the way he's written in spider-verse is bad it's still excellent, because it puts Miguel in the anti-hero grey area. Man that's cool.
Thank you! I definitely need to circle back to Spider-Man 3, I’m just not sure when yet. I didn’t those two versions were very different. I’ll have to look into that when I cover that game. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@alwaysnerdyretros yeah the PS2/Wii/PSP versions look (and maybe feel) drastically different than the PS3/360/PC versions we see in all the memes. The last gen versions felt very much like Spider-Man 2 The Game 2, basically looking like 2, with some interesting pre rendered cutscenes and very dated in engine ones. I think the encounters and story may be a bit different but it’s been a while since I played either version so I’m not sure
@@alwaysnerdyretros Yeah as Luke said, different encounters was a big thing. I haven't played it in years but I'm nearly certain there is an entire Morbius & Shriek sub-plot/boss fights in the PS2 version. Also the PS3 version having Kingpin present was quite a big one as well. Scorpion returns as well and they treat it as the same continuity as the Spider-Man 1 & 2 video games as well, referencing the Grand Central fight from the first game I believe.
17:00 I find it funny that James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan and Johnny Test) is doing the voice for the ads. He does some voice over ads in real life but more importantly he voiced Spider-Man in Friend or Foe I think. Steve Blum voicing Anti-Venom is also nice casting as he’s the go to for Wolverine but also the Green Goblin from Spectacular Spider-Man (which ofc is voiced by Josh Keaton)
I’m so glad someone isn’t hating on this game bc this is my first played spider man game and I played it 10 years ago and it’s still my favorite game entirely
i love that christopher daniel barnes made miguel distinct from his peter so it didn’t feel like it was just two peter’s playing off each other but actually two different guys
I played this game in 2014 and I loved it since, it had a good gameplay and I really loved the mechanic of doing 2 boss fights at the same time on the final level This game had many flaws but it still was a very good game and I will always love it
I love watching your videos. It is very interesting watching your takes on games I played long ago, or never had the chance to play. It's great to see you bringing attention to these classics, and maybe even new players who never got to try them. Can't wait for the next video!
"What's Important is not letting someone suffer and die while you do nothing! If you dont get that, you dont get the first thing about being Spider-Man." I didnt get to finish this game, but that exchange is probably one of my favorite Spider-Man related lines in fiction.
It would have been funny if MCU Peter met THAT version of Black Cat. He'd be so incredibly awkward. Even Michelle would be stunned by Black Cat's appearance. They'd never do it because I don't think they would allow Black Cat to be that sexy in a film today. Maybe if Raimi had included Black Cat in his films, but not today.
I remember spending so many months trying to beat this game on my 3ds. It was one of the first games I’ve ever played, and I recall getting frustrated and Giving up for a while because I couldn’t beat a certain level. But then I just suddenly would and I couldn’t believe it and then the story got more interesting and I just kept playing. I also think this game is very underrated it would honestly make a great spider man movie.
This feels like the same kind of situation as Majora's Mask: Forced to make a new game using existing assets in a limited amount of time, the developers got experimental under pressure and took more creative risks than they might have otherwise, resulting in something truly unique.
Man's out here making me feel things I remember when I'd always see these spider man games in like a video game/movie rental store or a GameStop or something.
I love this game and have since it was released...I'm a huge 2099 fan, and I think Christopher Daniel Barnes makes a way better Miguel than he does Peter, and I liked how focused the game feels since it doesn't have to juggle four Spider-Men and can keep things centered on two. My only real complaint, personally, is that I never really liked how they handled Anti-Venom. Part of the whole point of Anti-Venom is that he's the "good guy" version of Venom. He doesn't eat brains, he's more committed to trying to help people and heal others using his abilities, and he's more willing to work alongside Spider-Man. And yet. They *still* couldn't resist turning him into an enemy to fight. Despite the fact that Eddie Brock hasn't been a villain since the 90s, despite being a "good" guy for longer than he was a bad guy, despite Anti-Venom being the more heroic counterpart to Venom, they still had to fall back on the tired trend of having Eddie Brock/"Venom" being an antagonist, to the point that they had to make up bullshit and ignore how Anti-Venom works just to make it happen. It annoyed me back then, and it annoys me now.
I'm so excited for this video! Your videos are just so great and keep me entertained informed and teaching me all about games that I thought I knew and I had no idea existed. Keep up the great work
I play through this game probably 6-10 times every year. That’s how much I love this game! This game has, while not a perfect art style, a uniquely distinct one, the writing is stellar, the acting is brilliant, the cutscenes are beautiful, the music is suspenseful or heart breaking depending on the point in the story… I. LOVE. THIS. GAME!!!!
Also, I personally really enjoyed the reused areas because, while I understand the feeling of repetition people get, I felt like it gave the game a sense of being contained in one area which it was, all of it was inside Alchemax. I do believe that if they had more time, Beenox could’ve made some more creative areas but despite the size of the Alchemax building, the reused areas never bothered me
You missed the final shattered dimensions reference in the CEO’s office (at 49:27) as the tablet of order and chaos the thing mysterio wanted to steal and what Peter broke which lead to the event of shattered dimensions story is on the desk
Really good job with this video. I liked that you included many Easter eggs and even the unlockable stuff from HeroHQ that few people knew about at the time.
This is still one of my favourite Spider-Man stories ever. 2099 Spidey is so cool, and the shot of him carrying Peter is such a powerful shot. I hope we get a live action MCU rendition of this at some point. Spider-Man, 2099, Chris Barnes, time travel, Venom, fun gameplay, cool style, just an all around great package for me.
I remember playing this years ago, and loved the story and the saving amazing spider-man segment. The main menu/opening menu segment is still one of my favorite title screens in history
I like to imagine that Peter and Miguel are permanently physically linked since based off the ending and the end credits, there seems to be no indication that it ever stopped.

And not to mention the more messy webbing is more realistic since Peter made the suit by hand. So it should have a bit of sloppiness to it
@MarvelSpidey27 I
I've always loved Miguel's costume's strobe light effect. Wish they'd bring that back
Me too
yea whenever they bring that suit back in the newer games that’s the only thing missing on it
It really made the suit cool and unique.

The genius of hiring a big name like Val Kilmer is to throw the player off. Surely the famous actor is the big bad. And then to have that rug pulled out from under you is so good. Wish more games did this.
I liked how they even mentioned the CEO at the beginning in a throwaway line that no one would notice until the big reveal.

Must have cost you alot

I liked the subtle hints the game gave us that peter might be the villain. Mainly when peter guessed the password correctly and figured out how to restart the portal.

Oh I didn’t try that!

@@alwaysnerdyretros guess you gotta make another video!!
The CEO Parker is almost an indictment of the self-centered, loss-preoccupied mindset that Peter had in the One More Day story.
Plus his girlfriend relationship was more consistent
that quote is fuckin baller. what the hell. that’s exactly the kind of doublethink that creates authoritarians. on its face it’s incredible writing- but it’s made even better by the fact that the first half is written by somebody else! to take such a powerful and well-known phrase and twist it in a way that seems so true to the character is the mark of a brilliant writer.
Peter twisting the words he lives by in order to fit his new world view is such a great insight into his character
It’s pretty much the same game, which is insane. I don’t know how they got a console game to work on a 3ds
@@markallen6284 wow, didn’t know this 3ds carts held 8gb of data that’s way more than I thought. On the other hand, 8gb for a 360 disc sounds tiny
Now I understand why 😅

Honestly even though it’s only a few hours long I do enjoy every now and then just playing the story haha
Man really? It took me forever to beat. Either I sucked as a kid or I really just took my time with the game.
Did you say FOUR HOURS?
That would’ve been badass! I definitely could’ve used more villains. I was hoping the arena would contain some secret ones like Spider-Man 2

Miguel in Spider-Verse Movie:YOU RUINED THE CANON EVENT-
Miguel in this game:I got forced by Peter Parker to Save MJ
Peter:Bruh I’m just tell you have to be spider man
There’s actually another reference to Shattered Dimensions.
33:15 This is crazy because this is the entire premise of Across the Spiderverse
Yeah kinda, but lets be real Peter would have agreed with Miguel if it was anyone beside Mary Jane.
Still, if Miguel and Peter manage to fix the timeline, wouldn't saving MJ be moot?
They don't actually know that, and Peter would never let anyone break his code just because of it being undone later.
33:19 This Peter would agree with Miles in ATSV
Hope he’s in the beyond the spider verse movie he would totally side with Miles

The black suit had this great shine to it in Edge of Time, too. One of my favorite suits.
the black suits are always great in most spiderman games
I love Val Kilmer in this game, it's sad that he can't talk on his own anymore because he's a good actor.
I can't believe that he mentioned his Batman role but not his role as Iceman in Top Gun.
23:39 That can be seen, in a certain way, as another connection to the prior game. In the first mission of Shattered Dimensions, Madame Web says she has enhanced Spiderman's spider-sense in order to help identify the shards and other key structural objects.
Game didn't deserve to be slaughtered the way it was. Damn Activision 😔
It wasn't Activision it was Marvel. They got back the rights for Spiderman games and they were like "These games are way better then ours, so let's remove them to eliminate competition 🤓"
@@Cerise__ Then we got Avengers PS4.
I mean, we also got Spider-Man PS4 and Miles Morales
Not to mention, the final bosses are expertly designed, that Atrocity DNA sample mission still scares me and the final twist villain is just pure genius on the Writer's part
easily, my favourite spiderman game, sure the gameplay may be repetitive at sometimes but the dialogue between the characters is something to behold and make it's replayability that much more valuable.......
"Explain it to my rapidly retreating backside" These feel like OG Spiderman lines. LOL
I will always love the cutscenes in this game. Top Teir voice acting, and the body language when you can't see their faces was done amazing, and really delivers.
This could've easily been a fun animated movie.
Next to Web of Shadows this game was my first real introduction to Venom (well, Anti-Venom lol).
First time in general I learned venom was invisible to Spider-Man’s spider sense.
I’m contemplating buying web of shadows but it’s like 95 dollars minimum these days
I'm definitely hoping for a Web of Shadows Retrospective. I feel like that game in particular is underrated as hell.
The line where peter tells miguel he doesnt understand the first thing about being spiderman is easily one of the best lines in all of spiderman
I wish we could've gotten a sequel where Peter teams up with Spider Man Noir in a cool 1930's New York setting. Would've made for a great adventure
This game introduced me to my second favorite symbiote, Anti-venom. I was a little boy when this came out and didn't read as much comics so this game is what made me start to read comics to learn more about anti-venom

Peter does mention Black Cat to Miguel he says something like “my ex wants to play cat and mouse”
Also I think having Black Cat is an important part of showing how corrupt Future Peter has become.

Funfact if you go into CEO Peter office desk you can see the Tablet of Order and Chaos from Shattered Dimension
Great content as usual! I'd love a Spider-man 3 retrospective, discussing the differences especially between the PS2 and PS3 versions.
Thank you! I definitely need to circle back to Spider-Man 3, I’m just not sure when yet. I didn’t those two versions were very different. I’ll have to look into that when I cover that game. Thanks for the suggestion!

I played this game in 2014 and I loved it since, it had a good gameplay and I really loved the mechanic of doing 2 boss fights at the same time on the final level
This game had many flaws but it still was a very good game and I will always love it
that mission where you had to save MJ always scared the shit out of me as a kid because of all the pressure
I love watching your videos. It is very interesting watching your takes on games I played long ago, or never had the chance to play. It's great to see you bringing attention to these classics, and maybe even new players who never got to try them. Can't wait for the next video!
Thank you! It’s a lot of fun revisiting them. Was Edge of Time one that you had played before or never got around to?
Is it only me, because I think this game has the best fit of Spiderman in suit. He looks so strong in his suits and has a great body type here.
"What's Important is not letting someone suffer and die while you do nothing! If you dont get that, you dont get the first thing about being Spider-Man."
I didnt get to finish this game, but that exchange is probably one of my favorite Spider-Man related lines in fiction.
1:18:59 YOOOO he voices devil dinosaur in moon girl and devil dinosaur too!
38:26 this is probably my favourite part of the game
This feels like the same kind of situation as Majora's Mask: Forced to make a new game using existing assets in a limited amount of time, the developers got experimental under pressure and took more creative risks than they might have otherwise, resulting in something truly unique.
Man's out here making me feel things
I remember when I'd always see these spider man games in like a video game/movie rental store or a GameStop or something.
Keep up the great work
Thank you!!! I hope you enjoy this one as well! Thank you for watching :)
Man I’m in love with your videos, this is exactly what I had dreamed of
I play through this game probably 6-10 times every year.
I do believe that if they had more time, Beenox could’ve made some more creative areas but despite the size of the Alchemax building, the reused areas never bothered me
My favorite spider-man VA is the 90’s Amazing Spider-man animated show. And thats who voices miguel. Its so perfect
I found that just tapping yhe direction during the free fall section makes them easier to control.
Since Miguel moves predetermined distance.
Love your videos man. Your really underrated but you make so much great stuff and I love how much care you put into these.
Thank you! :)
In future-peter's office, you can actually find a fragment of the tablet from shattered dimensions
How something as awesome as this be so overshadowed is criminal. Great Video!!
