10 Reasons to Move to Iceland

  • What are the reasons to move to Iceland? To many people, Iceland is just a small country in Europe. However, this island country in the North Atlantic Ocean has a lot of good things to offer for those who desire to have a taste of life in Iceland. In this video, you’re going to see 10 reasons to move to Iceland. You’ll then discover certain things that are magnetically cool about Iceland. This is a country that’s sprawling with wonders of nature including stunning glaciers, astonishing lava formations, amazing geysers, and dazzling fjords. No wonder, it's always found in several lists of the best places to visit in Europe. I dare add Iceland to the list of best places to live even in the whole world.
As you go through these reasons to move to Iceland as presented in this video, you’ll see the best things about living in Iceland.
    1. It’s very safe
In my own opinion, the foremost reason to move to Iceland is safety considerations. I have earlier sided with those who voted Iceland as the safest country in the world. This is largely due to the fact that the country is very tiny, and criminals have no hiding place. Save for the few mountains, there’s literally nowhere to run on the island. Criminals will find it hard to escape as everyone knows each other. About every Icelander is somewhat related to another when family trees are extended to the sixth generation.
Iceland's crime rate is among the lowest. Children play outside unsupervised only to return home just before dinner or curfew. Did you know that Icelandic police don’t carry guns? Now, you see why the country keeps topping several rankings of safest countries, including the IEP's Global Peace Index.
    2. Nature
Tranquility is associated with getting close to nature and this can go a long way in improving our health. You can enjoy this in your country without a long journey if you move to Iceland. One of the best things about living in Iceland is that you get the chance to experience nature uninhibited. There are many wonders of nature in this country. That’s one of the reasons Iceland is among the small most-visited countries by tourists.
Among the tourist attractions you can see more frequently while living in Iceland are exotic waterfalls. There is also a blue lagoon where tourists always bathe in. Another wonder of nature is the hot pools with waters of varying temperatures. Imagine seeing the sun at the midnight. It happens here in Iceland from May to July. Do we need to mention glaciers and ice caves? These provide you with reasons to move to Iceland.
    3. Equality
Another reason to move to Iceland is equality. Let's narrow this down to gender equality which Iceland ranks first for. Iceland has commendably made remarkable progress toward equal opportunities for both genders both in private lives and in the society at large. This is a source of pride for the Icelanders as the country is the frontrunner in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index for many several years.
Women rights defenders are doing a lot to challenge the men’s monopoly of power. This is not in isolation. They’re a direct result of academic, cultural, political, religious, social, awakening that’s loud in Iceland. For example, Iceland is one of the Nordic countries where the welfare state is supportive of granting parental leave also to fathers. Subsequently, both mates have equal power and responsibility to run the home and share in the family responsibility.
    4. Very quiet and peaceful
A country ranked one of the safest is automatically peaceful. And a country that still preserves its open landscape, leaving the awe-inspiring and superabundant of fresh nature untouched is likely to be quiet.

I had a friend from Iceland in college who moved to the US for school- and I’ve never met a more stable and well spoken, smart man. Also politically it sounds like Iceland cares for its people unlike the US. Plus he said each student in Iceland becomes fluent in several languages by the time they graduate Highschool (or at least at the level where they could communicate in that language decently)

10 reasons not to move to Iceland: 1. The housing market is so crowded if one studio apartment is advertised, it gets 400 applications and it is extremely expensive. 2. The healthcare system has collapsed and just getting appointment at doctor is often weeks when it used to be few days. There is so much stress on healthcare workers, they just quit. 3 The police force is also overloaded with subjects and do not seem to care about people when something is stolen. 4. Though it is still safe, it is less safer than before. 5. The food is expensive. 6. The weather is not the best and very often windy and cold. 7. There are already 12.000 or more men in the country than women (3-4%) so the gender difference is not balanced and it is almost only due to immigration. 8. It has become less welcoming and more xenophobic in recent years. 9. During the winter the days become dark very early and sunlight is limited. 10. It is very difficult to become sustainable and try to grow food unless you get yourself a good greenhouse and equipment which is expensive as everything. I can mention many more but i guess Iceland is just a little tribe in the north and if everyone wants to move there it doesn't stay as good as everyone thinks.

People in iceland are the most polite, literate and most well spoken folks I have ever met in my life. Before you even dabble moving to iceland, just know that the most annoying thing Icelanders do not like to hear when they call to a business place is "eg tala ekki islensku". Lots of foreigners who stay in iceland are learning icelandic and some folks are not even trying to learn icelandic and they are just there to get a paycheck and use english as their primary language of communication. While not necessary to learn icelandic to get a job, its important to know that is their national language and if you plan on getting a professional job in Iceland that will pay a lot more, you best know some basic/mid level icelandic as some business discussions are done in icelandic and english. If you work for a company that is owned by a danish company, expect to hear icelandic/danish and english across the room. Overall, iceland is the most ideal place to raise a child. Been there so many times and have family of kin that kids were rarely on electronics. They were either reading or watching something on tv that is actually educational. Rarely, cartoons were only on for younger kids.

I can think of another reason to move to Iceland - politics!
The Government in Iceland takes no prisoners when it comes to the job of government. During the global financial crash of 2008, the Prime Minister resigned, and the replacement Government put the bankers responsible on trial. When the US Government came knocking to find out what was going on, the Icelandic Government told them to "go forth and multiply"!

For many non-Scandinavians, Scandinavia is treated like a "theme park" (like Disneyland or something), where anyone can go to and live out your fantasies. For some reason, non-Europeans (even many southern Europeans) have this fantasy about what they think it would be like to live in a Scandinavian country. The media has falsely built them up into some kind of a mystical utopian "elvish paradise," where all the people are blond and beautiful, and everyone lives in perfect harmony, with nature and each other. That image is false and was mostly built up by leftists trying to promote the "socialist ideal," that Scandinavia never was (as well as by people who just like to fantasize about blond women. Why is it that people like blond women so much? I can't figure it out). Why don't you have enough ethnic and national pride to try and build up your own people and country instead of trying to appropriate another. You never actually will appropriate it but will, eventually, change it become what you thought you left.

37.95% + 24% VAT (on spending) = 61,95% (lowest possible). OFC assuming you eventually spend it all.
Straight of the bat, you got 61.95% tax.
Then you have super high shadow taxes on Gasoline, travel tax, etc. I'd say the people of Iceland are good bondsmen.
Again, I bet if you include (not excluding) All shadow taxes + your income taxes (with VAT) you get about 90% ish tax.
I don't know what death taxes (estate tax) is but I'd assume it's high.

To those of you who think all your problems will be solved by emmigrating to Iceland, think again. Even if you make every effort to integrate, you will never feel completely a part of Icelandic society. It's not because Icelanders are racist or because you didn't try hard to integrate. In European ethnic states, non-natives WILL ALWAYS be considered foriegners. Even your children and grandchildren. This will cause resentment among non native immigrants, especially the 2nd generation, and will feed an inferiority complex that will last for generations. These minority groups will then try to force acceptance by claiming systemic racism and demand government intervention (often financial, racial quotas, etc.). Instead of looking to escape your own native land, then try to change the country you've moved to, why not just make your native land the way you want it to be?

      @Leif208 Рік тому +4

@@docdoc8556 I have no doubt that has been your experience, but that's only because Iceland hasn't yet been inundated by masses of non-ethnics yet. Single individuals are not seen as a threat, especially when you've made an effort. Just wait. How do I know? Because the exact same thing has alreayd happened in other Scandinavian countries, that were once like Iceland. Also, if you remain in Iceland and have children, they likely won't feel the same. They'll feel as I described above and will always blame "systemic racism" when in reality, it's just a systemic inferiority complex.

Here's a few reasons not to move there: Volcanoes. Health care is expensive, they do not have free health care like Europe, you pay for Everything. Food is expensive. Internet service is spotty. Volcanoes. It's freaking cold all the time, even in summer. The sun is out past midnight during summer months, and hardly out at all during the winter. If the freezing 50 mph winds don't kill you, the ocean waves will. Volcanoes. There is only one city, the rest is wide open rural, no trees, And if you're unemployed, you'll be eating a lot of sheeps head, cause chicken is as expensive as filet minon. On one hand, getting laid is easy, as they're into having sex on the first meeting but on the other hand everyone there is related to each other and you have to check your family background before you start breeding. If you have even the slightest criminal background, even a simple DWI, you ain't living here. If you don't have a good job already lined up, like in thermodynamics, you ain't living here.
