“You think I bloody enjoy living like this?!” The first time we watch the movie, we’re meant to think that he was talking about the marriage. Once we find out the ending, that line takes on a whole new meaning. So many lines and scenes in the movie are recontextualized with the knowledge of how it ends.
Sarah was smart she unknowingly could tell them apart, couldn't they have at least confided in Sarah to tell her the truth than she probably would've lived
He Would Lose Her If He Did. He Lied To Her From The Beginning. You Remember The Day They First Met?! One Of Them Had Lunch With Sarah And The Other One Was Inside Her Apartment. She Thought It Was Trick. Telling Her The Truth Would Ruin Such A Beautiful Memory Of Her's.
1:47 Saying She's Smart Isn't Fair Towards Sarah. She Would Know When It's Her Husband Cause She's A True Lover And A True Lover Has His/Her Own Instinct.
@@xaviermill7440 No, She Didn't. Remember The Day Borden's Twin Was Saved After He Was Burried Alive By Angier. It Was His Turn That Very Night To Be In The Prestige. She Begged Him To Stop Drinking And Take Off The Fake Beard. Also She Said: "Alfred! This Isn't You. Stop Acting!"
I know everyone feels the need to pick a side Borden or Angier, but I think the incidental villain is the dead brother. He was always the rasher one of the two, an I believe he was responsible for Angier's wife's death. He was also responsible for Sarah's death. He was the one that pushed Angier down the path of vengeance that consumed him.
They were all bad people. The brother that lived could have told the truth to his wife but he preferred magic over her, leading to her death, and Angier did many awful things as well. Even Cutter could have said the truth about Angier being alive and could have saved the other brother but didn’t.
You’re all correct. It’s emotional Borden’s fault Angier’s wife died. The stoic twin who attended the funeral didn’t know which knot “he” tied because 1) he didn’t tie it, and 2) he wasn’t going to open that can of....dung with the twin who did. The emotional twin let his emotions get the better of him when Sarah got upset over Olivia. Hence “I’m sorry about Sarah. I didn’t mean to hurt her. I didn’t!”
So for those of you who don't know, alfred was a name made by the borden twins by combining their real first names together; albert (the gentle one who loves sarah) and frederick (the aggressive one who loves olivia)
The reason this movie is one of my favorites is that all three of the main characters (the Borden brothers and Angier) are all villains. Angier although partially justified, is a vengeful and hateful person who ends up committing murder/suicide on a nightly basis and both Borden brothers because they are so committed to a lie that they torture the people they love as a consequence to the point of their wife committing suicide. It's hard for me to pick out one that is worse. Likely Angier is the worst followed by the meaner brother but all are total shit-bags.
I was so sorry for Borden. Not first, because he looked like a detached, unpleasant man that no one could live with. Just a real bad guy. But after I found out that he was really the good guy and Angier the bad guy - Angier became really merciless and inhumanely scary - I was sorry forBorden. Because it was HIM, who truly DEVOTED himself to the craft, who destroyed his own life willingly for the sake of his magic tricks. I admire him.
@@ryleyleseberg7422 i dont think he killed her. They( borden) got confused because they switch side a lot of and the one cutter say to dont mess up the rope wasnt there to hear about it.
I wouldn't classify Borden or Angier as the 'villain'; they both fell victim to a disease of the psyche. The story is tragic in every conceivable direction.
So when Rob Angier asked (Alfred) Borden what knot he tied and he said he didn't know, it's because he *really* didn't know. It was (Fallon) Borden that tied the knot, so only Fallon knows; Angier just happened to only be asking Alfred.
I think one of the twins was more emotional and brash, and the other was the genius. It makes sense for the "why can't you outthink him?" line. The emotional one was the one who got buried and was ranting about it at dinner. He was also the one who was executed.

They both have different qualities. One is more an engineur, whereas the other was a showman. Just like the theory, nobody cares about the man in the box, that disappear rather, it's the one that appear back. From what i read, Alfred Borden consist of Albert and Frederick Borden, thus the two makes the character Alfred. Albert is engineur, the brains, more calm one. He is the one who loves Sarah. Freddie is the showman, the one who sells the tricks to the audience, he is the one who seduced Sarah with his charms for his brother, he is the one more preoccupied with being the best magician, and is portrayed to be more angry and ruthless. None could succeed without the other given both have different abilities that their character would need throughout their lives. I hope that makes sense. The theory is that Freddie is the one who dies, because he was so obsessed in knowing the secret of the Angier's trick and went to the show. That's why in prison, he says '' I'm sorry about Sarah, i didn't mean to hurt her '' In the end, it is Albert who is, the rightful father who reunites with his daughter. I read one comment, it says Albert and Frederick can be distinguished by the presence/absence of a scar on their left eyebrow.
