I love my Fabriano 300gsm 100% Cotton that I was so fortunate of wining a couple of years ago in a giveaway. That brought me into the good paper world and now I have Arches and Daler Rowney😁
I swear it looks as if my grey cat Petey is in your video! Thank you for a well-done and informative video. I love all types of Arches, Saunders Waterford, Professional Baohong (ESPECIALLY THE SATINADO!) and also Kilomanjaro and I use both sides of all of them. I haven't painted for long, but I have never used cheap supplies. I have gone without other luxuries so I don't have to. My old paintings are cut up and I paint on the other sides and make cards and collage fodder. You have me very curious now about the Fabriano Studio paper. It sounds like good fun.
I swear these grey cats are all clones of each other! We think he might be a Korat breed, but he was from Craigslist so not really sure...Happy painting and thank you for those great tips!
@@aquilawatercolor Sadly all our cats are probably related. Ours was one of our rescues that we could not adopt out because we loved him too much. I started my fish today but since I keep my room so hot I have to do it in sections. I'm having fun. I drew a different fish and much bigger so I had lots of room to play.
Great info! I think you're a Cheap Joe's fan. What are your thoughts on the Kilimanjaro papers? It's their "house" brand. I've had a lot of luck with the paint books, blocks, pads and sheets; but I always wonder if there is something better and more affordable. I think it's made by Fabriano (based on the history of the paper I read.) Have you tried it?
I do love Cheap Joe's! And Jerry's Artarama too. I like Kilimanjaro, but their cold press is a little on the smooth side for me, so I opt for rough which I can't get in 300lb kilimanjaro, so I go for Arches or Fabriano Rough (for full size sheets)
@@aquilawatercolor ah ha! I haven't ventured down the 300lb paper path yet. Good info to know. And I love that your little one said the cat needed rubs from you 🙂
One thing which I have noticed with the fabriano studio paper is that it seems to have a very large amount of sizing, which can lift up and create kind of a syrup on the surface. That would probably be the reason for the slow absorption of color that you mention.
I do portraits and so I have in the past shied away from cold press because of the toothiness. But can I use the back side of cold press for a smoother surface?
Yes you can! But I've found that most brands of cold press have a similar texture on both sides - an exception would be New York Central Art Supply, which definitely has a smoother surface on the back.
@ I was able to put the subtitles on and got all the info. But it was like clockwork. 5 secs of hearing 5 seconds of silence. But if no one else said anything. Hopefully it was a problem on my end and not yours.
I love watching your videos. I’m a beginner….only painting for months but I have learned a lot from you. Thank you……and I love seeing your cats! 🐈⬛🐈
Oh thank you!
Thank you! Looking forward for tomorrow ❤❤❤

Great video: best video on paper qualities! Breve and clear thanks
You’re welcome! So glad it was helpful.
Thanks for the recommendations.

Ooo I like going big too!
You can also flatten ripples by ironing on the back
Yes, great tip, thank you!

Oh I can see that, interesting. I still just love how it behaves but I wonder if that's part of it!

I looked on Amazon and that paper is $18.99 for 5 sheets. Is that a good price?
If you are talking 300lb paper in a decent size, like 11x14, then yes!
@@aquilawatercolor Thank you, I had no idea 😊
The audio on my end is cutting in and out
Oh no!
