  • South Carolina's Hamilton Branch State Park, located between the small towns of Modoc and Plum Branch, is a park we'd been meaning to visit for quite some time, and Smokey's birthday weekend was the perfect "excuse" to finally spend a three-day weekend there! Of course, as is usual for us, the rain had to put in an appearance... 🌧 Take a look as we show you around this lovely, heavily-forested park on the shores of Lake Thurmond, and you'll see why it's so very popular with Central Savannah River Area campers!

    Hi Smokey and Jesse! Just wanted to let you know this was great seeing the park you stayed in. It looked very nice and clean. On a few down trees from the storms. The hike looked great to do the loop. It’s really good to see you both again. Happy Birthday Smokey! Belated!
    🎂🎁🎉 Glad the rain cleared up.

    Bring your bikes for Fort McAllister. Fish tales, just a bike ride up the road, is a great place one evening for dinner. We enjoyed the tour of the Fort. There is a lot of deer out there at night.

    Happy belated birthday. And glad to see your video. We sold our home in NC and have bought another home in TN. We are staying in our camper till we close. If you ever come to Jonesborough TN stay at Riverview campground small campground. The owner keeps it so nice and clean.

    Heading up there next weekend! It'll be our 2nd trip there. Bringing the kayaks and looking forward to some time on the water. Looks like you had enough of a break in the rain to enjoy some getaway time. Happy Birthday (belated)! Thanks for the great content as always.

      Weeks before this trip, we had delusions of taking our inflatable kayak, but as the forecast became gloomier and gloomier, we didn't even bother. 😞 Glad you're still keeping tabs on us!

    Belated Happy Birthday! Sorry you got rained out, but it stopped I see. I’ve camped here several times. It’s nice. Especially on a blue sky day. Never walked the trail yet. Thanks for the tips. There’s also two other trails I know of near by. Lick Fork Lake Trail. A 1.9 miles loop. And Horn Creek Trail. A 5.7 miles loop. As always. Enjoyed the video!

    Hamilton Branch State Park has 200 campsites. It’s on their park map online. Some were probably closed off. They also have 6 “H” sites which means Hike-In for groups. Not sure if you can camp on those or not. Just thought I’d share. Great video. Thanks!

    We like spot 124 at Hamilton it's a tent site but u can get to the lake from the side of the site and it's next to the bathroom just gotta have water shoes because of all the rocks in the lake.

      You lost us at "tent..." 😜 KIDDING!! You're right - tent campers, or those with a pop-up or a teardrop trailer, fit right in here. Thanks so much for watching!

    I have concluded that the left side sites are for motor homes, where you can pull in forward.

    • @LiveNLearnRV

      If the water being on the "wrong" side was the worst thing to happen that weekend, I'll take it! All in all, it was a great way to spend "Annual Solar Orbit Completion" Day! 😎

    Really enjoy your videos! We camp often on that body of water on the Clark's Hill side at Mistletoe State Park. We live in FL and it's our go to at least 1x a year. Will try this park, appreciated you pointing out the oddity of the T type camping areas. We'll opt for pull- thru. We'll want lakeside...as we have kayaks always at the ready :-) We also tow a 25' Forest River product, a Flagstaff Micro Lite, with a Tundra. Ours is a long bed...is yours? Look forward to your future adventures! Safe travels!

    • @LiveNLearnRV
      @LiveNLearnRV  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, our "Big Red" is a long-bed Tundra, too! If you like Mistletoe, you'll dig Hamilton Branch. We love Mistletoe, too, but it's a little more "open" than HB, so all the extra tree cover at HB gives it a different feel. Hey, thanks so much for watching!

      @Live 'n' Learn RV thank you! Will definitely check it out. We REALLY seek as private a camping spot as we can. We typically do drive bys when in the area to check out campgrounds and choose spots. Nothing worse than making reservations, driving 6 hrs, only to arrive finding the site isn't very good. Watching videos such as yours is a HUGE help! :-)

    We have not made it up there yet! Love the water sites, so need to try to get up there soon.- we are in a conversion van, so should be able to make it into the sites and still see the view. Thanks again for the informative video.

      @LiveNLearnRV  2 роки тому

    Been there several times. The “T” sites are awful, especially with all the trees. Makes it very difficult to back into the site. And, you’re right - the ones to the left of the T face away from the lake.

      @LiveNLearnRV  2 роки тому +1

    Sites are strange… I have to ask what kind of fancy camera you got setup in the truck

    • @LiveNLearnRV
      @LiveNLearnRV  2 роки тому +1

      It's a Vantrue N4 3-camera dashcam. It generates some decent footage (for a dashcam) forward/in-cabin/rearward, but it maxes out at 1080p/30fps. I usually shoot 2.7k/60fps, but I'm willing to sacrifice the slight drop in image quality for the ease of getting those three angles now.

    • @GimpyCamper
      @GimpyCamper 2 роки тому

      I still do everything in 1080… I did 4K a couple times but the files were so big… lol.

    • @LiveNLearnRV
      @LiveNLearnRV  2 роки тому

      @@GimpyCamper Yeah, I always render out in 1080, anyway. 2.7k files aren't anywhere near as large as 4k files, and that little bit of extra resolution helps me in close-ups sometimes.
