Like, I legit don't understand how this would be challenging or unpleasant, or anywhere near "just noise". His arpeggiated 12-tone romp, sure, too much for my poor pleb ears, but this? This is *killer*!
People with limited exposure to chromoharmonic music are prone to saying things about complicated remixes that are rooted in their ignorance of polytonal modulations in fractured rotokeys. It's not their fault, the layered structures of a capitalist hypercultural music industry have forcefed their brains a melange of ultra-simple shit. If they studied the greats, like Rip du Mort and Slicing Rod Flowers, they might realize that their perception of such garbage disposal flagrancies robot make seven.
For all of you people that are saying that this isn't good, you're very wrong. The drums are insanely tight, the voice leading is excellent and very original, and the intonation for the singing is near perfect. So i'm sort of confused as to why you people are commenting things like "make sure the vocals and the chords are in the same key" or "you should take yourselves much less seriously, or just get a lot better at music." Louis and Genenvieve are two of the most talented artists of today.
May we pay homage to our Lord and Savior Adam Neely for bringing us together on this very occasion to show our support for those who dare to eat the forbidden fruit of "sweet sweet jazz" and show a round of applause for KNOWER and their cover of "Promises" 👏👏👏
jack o'nada im not denying the talent. because they have a lot of talent! it's just they do have better stuff. and if people don't understand the simple complexities (oxymoron? haha) of this track, then they will miss out on the more complex artistic tracks they and others have
Sounds like a great idea! Let's hear your remix of this with "more weirdness in tonality". Transcribe from 2:37 to the end and digest that first and then come back with your "more weirdness in tonality". Or better yet, give us an example of what you had in in mind. Perhaps you can quantify how this is lacking in precisely what you were hoping you'd hear? Please be more specific.
Fairy C Rat if you can’t understand how progressive this harmony is, you don’t understand harmony. No offense. My guess is all you’re hearing is the melody, which is not complex tonally. It is the same as the original. Not being able to comprehend complex chord structures is a dead give away you know nothing about harmony.
I totally get why none of you are digging on this but I don't think Knower acknowledges any kind of limitations, I find this rather outstanding. I'm tired of complacent individuals squandering the realm of music, the world is ending, this is the soundtrack to the apocalypse, just accept it.
I agree except I'd replace apocalypse with revolution. Renaissance, too. The world is not ending (unless it is, but yah never know haha), what we know is being uprooted as more and more people have wider access to truth.
"this doesn't sound like what i'm used to. i don't like it." it's experimental, don't expect it to sound like something dr. luke or max martin put out there.
The very heavy compression makes the chord changes extremely hard to decipher, but also contributes to the insane texture especially in the final section. KNOWER was ahead of its time - I have never heard anything like this before. This is the stuff of dreams.
Knower: bringing real musicianship to EDM. This may be how we can rescue our dying culture; covertly inserting jazz harmony into popular music. Kinda like spiking the water supply, yet more ethical. Thank you Knower. Much respect. This is inspiring.
Josh LeRose what I did the last time we played with my band: every set I would start by asking our saxophone player in which key I should start playing and obviously he chose ones like semitone or tritone apart from the tonic, had to do some pretty creative voice leadings...
I'm really not sure why there is so much hate in here. This was an incredible rendition. It doesn't have to sound the same for it to be a cover. They did something different. Doesn't make it bad. Hats off to you, Louis and Genevieve.
Long time fan of Nero, and this cover is fantastic. I just found Knower, and I more associated them with Aphex Twin, Death Grips, Domi and JD Beck, not so much Nero, but it's so good. It's that mathcore beat and twisted dreamy melodies. I can't get enough.

for an easy digestion and inner peace... some people only look for confirmation of beliefs, other look forward to put their brain in front of new interesting situations.
this is extremely late and nobody probably cares anymore but the way they match the synths with the vocals seems to make the vocals match the key as much as possible until it can't anymore and they just temporarily ignore the key until it goes back to something more controllable. that's just a long way of saying "it's complicated" but once it clicked the song made so much more sense to me
Jealousy is rampant and inherent. This track is unique and savory. People aren’t happy with themselves but they project it on everything else. That’s why I hate everything. Not because it’s better than me but because the rest of you just can’t accept your mediocre lives so you tear anything of beauty down, rip it apart, and piss on it. Hmm why does your life suck? I like the rest of their songs but I wish they would have more chaotic songs like this one. The chords on the chorus are mindblowing, they make you feel like you're traveling at the speed of light
This was the first knower track i encountered, i've listened intently to everything they've recorded (that's available readily anyway)... I keep coming back to this it totally freaked me out the first time i heard it. What a way to launch a journey>
I fucking hate both extremes, "oh, this music is too "simple", it's trash pop shit, my *jazz chords* are way better than this" Or "This is so trash, It's not in the same key, what the fuck am I hearing, it's so wrong" What pisses me off more is the "jazzy" people saying that pop is bad. Like, you, more than anyone, shouldn't be talking about a music being "bad". Edit: word correction
Considering I don't know the original, this is awesome. In fact, this is awesome either way. Open your ears and minds people. Listen to some Charles Ives, George Crumb, Stravinsky, SunnO, John Coltrane, Robert Glasper, Jacob Collier, Don Cherry, Adam Neely (Sungazer), ect... It's all connected in an abstract way. This is Jazz in its purest and truest form.
I came here from Adam Neely. I havent even heard the original yet. This sounds amazing to me. Doesnt sound odd at all. Maybe Im too used to jazz music. 😂
To me it sounded perfectly normal in the first and, to this moment, only listen. Then again, I’ve been listening to Fuck the Makeup Skip the Shower and the entire opus from Clown Core on repeat for the last few weeks… 🤷♂️
Louis Cole’s fuck it up is legendary. I found it on various social media platforms and every once in a while I stumble upon it I just watch it on repeat like 4 times
They're great, so are the same songs he/KNOWER performed with European ensembles (Norrbotten Big Band and ??). Great wind parts, synthesizers, and tight drumming.
absourate I equate dissonance with a feeling a get from a sound. Yes it's INTENSE but it doesn't give mebthe discomfort I associate with dissonance, discomfort is not a bad thing at all though.
This is awesome, much more interesting going on here than most recent 'Drum'n'Bass' stuff. Took a rather boring track (In my opinion) and made it something more, can't believe I nearly forgot about you guys
I don't see why anyone would be butthurt over this song, this song is somehow garage that's both raw and harmonic at the same time and it's wonderful. Subbed.
Sent from Adam Neely: Love this stuff so much. The vocals almost sound like the ending to a phrase made by the synths, like the EDM version of a Picardy third! Love it so much!! Here is a suggestion for those who liked this, look up, "Trout Mask Replica" by Captain Beefheart. It's so weird but so cool!
The chords complement the vocals just fine; they just aren't the normal chords you'd hear in a pop song. You should probably expand your taste in music; from your profile, it looks like you're very into electronic music, although I suspect your tastes expand a bit further than that, lol. But yeah, throw out the misconception that music needs to have a SPECIFIC kind of harmony, and you'll discover music you never knew you liked. :D Which isn't to say that you'll like this song, of course.
This cover evoke a very specific feeling for me. I'm at my friend's huge house party. We've got black lights and glow sticks. This songs starts, and everyone is dancing. I'm in the middle of the dance floor, and everyone including myself is dancing. The bass drops and at that exact moment, and I start to lose control. I feel the music in my soul and my inhibitions fade. My body is light as air and I dance like nobody's watching, because no one is. Its just me and the music. In this moment nothing matters; work, school, responsibilities do not exist. This moment lasts forever...of course until the song ends, and I am left feeling empty. It's like getting off a roller coaster and feeling like you forgot how to walk. Man, reality sure is heavy. Time to get on with my life. Cheers guys
I don't understand where the hate is coming from on this one. This is dope AF! Probably because I understand the "changes" in this cover. They focused on taking the song on a journey whereas the original stayed in a diatonic form. Thanks to Adam Neely (shout-out) for sending me here. Once again, I love it! Kudos, KNOWER.
Wow. I remember listening to this version when I was 15. Fully appreciate it now. I can't remember if I did back then, but this tingles the jazz brain. Thanks for bringing me back here Adam Neely. Now to find the "Pro tip:" comment XD
Unfortunately, I would argue that most of dubstep's fanbase doesn't have much of an appreciation for music that doesn't A) bring instant gratification upon first listen or B) has anything more complex than a single oscillated tritone blasting through the entire song. That's why most dubstep artists that actually give a shit about what they are doing are less popular or long forgotten and why often we see the least interesting at the top of the charts. It's a sad thing indeed my friend.
Dubstep seems to run the spectrum from harsh dissonance to the easier to digest stuff. The fanbase seems to run the spectrum, too. Kinda like with most things/life.
Damn the way the chords progression seems to just keep filling up. Kind of gives the floaty feeling of leaning and falling off cliff but you have a wing suit.
Holy junk! It's like being in a craft that went out of control, and is hurtling forward so fast that the forces are simultaneously pulling it apart and squishing it together at the same time. I have no idea how to process this, and *I LOVE IT.*
this video's comments must be the most amusing thing on youtube... First everybody was trying to be entertaining with explaining how bad this song is and now everybody's trying to be entertaining about how cool and inovative are the chord progressions and I'm pretty shure most of you have commented without even listening to the song...
maybe 6 years ago this was much more dissonant to peoples' ears, its a possibility today we're living a "jazzification" of pop music or at least what we hear in youtube thanks Adam Neely to light up our path
Adam Neely's recommendations are great
Yeah, man
Damn right
This is really bad.
Just noise...
PRO TIP: make sure the vocals and the synths are in the SAME KEY!

I'm glad i came. Thanks Adam!
After seeing Adams video, I thought this wil be much more dissonant
IKR? I was prepared to suffer but the harmonies sound actually pretty pleasant

I don't even know if someone hit false note or someone's just like experimental jazz
I came from Adam's video too!

Man, that crazy augmentation of the chorus' chord progression the 2nd time around gets me every time. Almost *too* intense! Love it.

Here from Adam Neely! This is super dope. Some sweet re-harmonization, a punchy mix, and trippy visuals. I'm into it.
Actually, you'll find alot of riddim/hard dubstep producers use arped stacked tritones in their comps...... most of them just don't know it lol
I was just wondering what was an oscillated tritone lol
I like dubstep and I love this, so yeah, don't generalise about an entire group of people based on preconceptions c:
Dubstep seems to run the spectrum from harsh dissonance to the easier to digest stuff. The fanbase seems to run the spectrum, too. Kinda like with most things/life.
Also, I may have accidentally given approval to cannibalism. :D
Haven't heard the original - If Neely hadn't pointed out the reharminization I would've never realized. It just sounds incredible.
god you guys are ridiculous... i'm gonna end up getting to sleep at like 6 in the morning because i have to eat every single video.
Guys I am listening to this in 2018. Wish I had heard this when it was released. Sooooooooo good. Keep up the good work.
Btw this needs to be on spotify
Putting a cover there is expensive af
This is the epitome of a remix. So creative.
Uhhhhhm... this left me totally flabbergasted. Stunned. Just amazing.
amazing, good recommendation by Adam Neely
Damn the way the chords progression seems to just keep filling up. Kind of gives the floaty feeling of leaning and falling off cliff but you have a wing suit.
Holy junk! It's like being in a craft that went out of control, and is hurtling forward so fast that the forces are simultaneously pulling it apart and squishing it together at the same time. I have no idea how to process this, and *I LOVE IT.*
my only disappointment is that KNOWER hasn't done anything else quite this far out
So much more awesome than the original! KNOWER knows best. KNOWER knows all. All Hail to KNOWER.
This is so fucking amazing!!! People can't handle anything that doesn't sound like what they are used to..
Put this over good speakers. Totally pumped now :D
this video's comments must be the most amusing thing on youtube... First everybody was trying to be entertaining with explaining how bad this song is and now everybody's trying to be entertaining about how cool and inovative are the chord progressions and I'm pretty shure most of you have commented without even listening to the song...
And what about you kind sir?
Are you the coolest of the kids above us all?
bro - i'm pretty sure these are two distinct groups of people ;)
@@Gio_Panda i think him pointing this out makes him a promising candidate for that occupation, yes
Hi Knower. I came here because of Adam Neely's bass lessons. Now I'm a fan. I also really like THE GOVT. KNOWS, Hanging On, and Skip the Shower.
Wow! and I thought I am the crazy one! this harmony is so good!!!!!!
I don't know Adam Neely but im glad i know Knower. :D
2:20 to 2:22 were mind blowing visuals. I gots the heebiejeebies.
I don't know if I'd keep the exact same melody during the verses, though.
maybe 6 years ago this was much more dissonant to peoples' ears, its a possibility today we're living a "jazzification" of pop music or at least what we hear in youtube
thanks Adam Neely to light up our path
Protip: keep making awesome music
this shit goes wild like damm, thanks Adam Neely for the recomendation
