Power supplies are getting expensive! And with the newer requirements of modern platforms that isn't going to change anytime soon.
But it isn't all doom and gloom, Thermaltake have seen this gap in the market and seem to have found something pretty cool to plug it, literally
The Thermaltake Smart BX3 range consists of three models 550w 650w and 750w. All based around the Smart BM3 range but with some tweaks to bring the cost of ownership down to budget basement levels (at least for modern PSUs)
These support the latest ATX3.1 specs to provide stability, efficency and power excursions way over the sticker on the box.
Add in some silent operation with the new 120mm FDB smart zero RPM fan, and things are looking up. All this backed up with a market leading 5 YEAR warranty. Pretty awesome deal if the price is as low as the intended MSRP shows.

That’s what I love about this channel. You guys don’t push the most expensive products and offer good valuable and more practical solutions. This power supply is good for almost any build providing it isn’t running on a RTX 4090 and a power hungry i9 Intel chip.

Excellent video, Mike and Kath. The PSU is the heart of the system and even though this is being badged as "budget" I think it has a lot of offer as a replacement for a current older one or a unit for a new build. 🙂

that is something we have seen happening for a couple of years now at least. Since the human malware things have jumped in price and mostly never recovered
I think this was what I used a few years back for my budget gamming rig build and its still doing great!

Good one Mike; thank you. Outside of the very low cost/low end Thermaltake PSUs, I really like their models. My 750W Bronze semi modular SMART BM2 was a great buy and trouble free.
yeah i like these, the specs are decent, shame the 80 plus rating isn't a bit higher. Surprised that they didn't market the UK version as silver
@@mikesunboxing thinking realisticaly Mike, how much electric bill savings is there really achieved buying a PSU rated better than Bronze? Specially when considering the higher cost of a Gold or Platinum unit.

Seems quality psu at affordable prices imo. You have me worried as recently upgraded my pc to msi mpg a750gf in white, fully modular, dream to fit in Ceres300, but i never considered "transient spikes"! Didnt want the 12pin pwr nvidia cable so Gold & mod for £85 seemed best in comparison. Will TT be offering a budget SFX version? Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath 🐈👍
your PSU will be fine, just maybe don't splash out on a 4090 and overclock it :-)

Best to have a 1000 watt psu as a standard base psu now! Anything less is a waste of time. PCs today are power hungry 🤤 especially the gpu!

I'd rather spend a little more and get a much better PSU. A SeaSonic FOCUS Plus Gold 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX PSU is only $130 at the US Amazon, and it comes with a 10 YEAR WARRANTY FTW.
those are around £180 here sometimes, nice PSU though

id love to get a better understanding of the 'dc to dc' design. that sounds sketch.
The DC to DC design means there is a main 12V DC rail that is converted to 3.3v and 5v, rather than having 3 separate rails converted from AC to DC. This makes it more efficient

After running with S tier flagship PSU for 6 months, I've just lost the ability to judge PSUs objectively... Every midrange or budget solution looks too cheap and not good enough. Like what you say his efficiency is, 80+ Bronze? Not Titanium, not even Platinum? Must be bad... Would never buy it 😂

Nope never buying a thermaltake psu ever again after a brand new A tier thermaltake was throwing 12v down the 5volt sata rails and burned out $160 of rgb and hdd’s in anew system and they took zero responsibility for it

@@mikesunboxing I have emails to and from them, I have pics, I have receipts all of that, the only thing they were willing to do is replace the PSU which it was 10x faster to just have amazon do it. Plus I went with a MSI for the replacement, I build a lot of PC's and am not some novice. I tested the SATA and it was putting 12volt down the 5 volt rails, one of the 2 burnt out HDD's literally caught fire, it could of burnt down my house. This was with all new parts new everything decent system nothing cheap. All I asked for was to replace the rgb fans and that was it that I would eat the 2 burnt out 2tb Hdd's And they wouldn't even do that.
