1/8 Scale. Now Shipping! Molded in Metallic Purple, 2 huge sprues of chrome parts, clear sprue, red and clear tubing and big rubber tires for the back and front. The build up was done straight out of the box with only glosscoat, black & white paint used. Used tan and a mix for the Condors neck. Carefully read through the instructions and check off each step as you go along. The decal sheet has also been updated. Take your time and use a quality glue with a precision applicator.
This makes for an incredible show piece to add to your collection! What a great design from Tom Daniel. It derives from the Monogram tooling. Originally issued in 1969-70. Skill level 3 ages 14 and up.
Officially Licensed with Tom Daniel Intellectual Properties.
This kit also comes with a free Flexi-file and a sturdy corrugated bottom to give this jammed packed box more protection. Please note: the tubing and the clear tree are in the bag with the purple parts.
King Chopper II Three-Wheel Show Trike:
Bikes are big, and this Tom Daniel design is the biggest and wildest ever seen! Daniel built the King Chopper around a cut down Harley-Davidson 74 because of its big displacement, big horsepower, and big torque. Using a neat, low-slung frame to hang the engine, he used two small-diameter wide Indy ovals on the rear with a chain drive to harness all that power. Front spoked wheel with full-width racing drums is set at an extreme rake. The pleated saddle seat with high-back is a work of art and topped with a 'sissy bar' that serves as a perch for Tom's pet mean and ugly California Condor. Big 1/8 scale model is over 15 inches long and nearly 13 inches tall. It's a BIG-BIG model that's bound to be a BIG-BIG hit with the biker crowd. A powerful package in far out psychedelic colors will move this kit with all the speed of the real King Chopper!
A chopper is a type of custom motorcycle which emerged in California in the late 1950s. The chopper is perhaps the most extreme of all custom styles, often using radically modified steering angles and lengthened forks for a stretched-out appearance. They can be built from an original motorcycle which is modified ("chopped") or built from scratch. Some of the characteristic features of choppers are long front ends with extended forks often coupled with an increased rake angle, hardtail frames (frames without rear suspension), very tall "ape hanger" or very short "drag" handlebars, lengthened or stretched frames, and larger than stock front wheels.[1] The "sissy bar", a set of tubes that connect the rear fender with the frame, and which are often extended several feet high, is a signature feature on many choppers.
Perhaps the best known choppers are the two customized Harley-Davidsons, the "Captain America" and "Billy Bike", seen in the 1969 film Easy Rider.
Harley-Davidson, Inc., HD, or Harley, is an American motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1903 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was one of two major American motorcycle manufacturers to survive the Great Depression, along with Indian.[3] The company has survived numerous ownership arrangements, subsidiary arrangements, periods of poor economic health and product quality, and intense global competition[4] to become one of the world's largest motorcycle manufacturers and an iconic brand widely known for its loyal following. There are owner clubs and events worldwide, as well as a company-sponsored, brand-focused museum.
Harley-Davidson is noted for a style of customization that gave rise to the chopper motorcycle style.[5] The company traditionally marketed heavyweight, air-cooled cruiser motorcycles with engine displacements greater than 700 cc, but it has broadened its offerings to include more contemporary VRSC (2002) and middle-weight Street (2015) platforms.
Harley-Davidson manufactures its motorcycles at factories in York, Pennsylvania; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Kansas City, Missouri (closing); Manaus, Brazil; and Bawal, India. Construction of a new plant in Thailand began in late 2018.[6] The company markets its products worldwide, and also licenses and markets merchandise under the Harley-Davidson brand, among them apparel, home decor and ornaments, accessories, toys, scale figures of its motorcycles, and video games based on its motorcycle line and the community.
In 1968, Monogram then hired stylist Tom Daniel who designed more than 80 fantastical vehicles, not always based on real cars.
When the company was bought by Mattel in 1968, custom vehicles designed by Tom Daniel and others were seen in both small and large sizes in Hot Wheels diecast - and then in Monogram kit form. By around 1970, many of these models were molded in bright reds and oranges and did not require painting.

When I was a kid so many decades ago, my mom would give my brother and I $3.00 a piece to go to Model Village in Verdun, Montreal to get the latest models. It would keep us busy at home while she went about the “wife” things they did in the ‘60s. We didn’t have the “Super” glue we have today, so we used a lot of wooden clothes pins and thread to hold stuff together while the cheap Chin-se glue dried. But we loved it. It’s a shame the young kids today have no use for anything that doesn’t light up or cruise the InterWeb these days. It was a different time, for sure.

I use to love building models in the late 60s and through the 70s I probably had about 50 of them that I built I use to go to Kmart with my parents and get one we had a local hardware store that had a big section of models and paints I would walk there and get one , I built a lot of Tom Daniels models like the Red Barron, Beer wagon, Paddy wagon etc. We use to do things like paint the battery caps Red and use black thread and glue to the distributor and the heads like plug wires ,sand the back wheels to make them look like they burnt out those were the days if only we could go back!
I now collect 1\18 scale diecast cars have over 150 of them

I'm from Verdun Montreal myself. I grew up and still live in Chateauguay on the South shore of the St. Lawrence Seaway. I still build models today at 61 and it's the greatest hobby ever. Kids don't know what they're missing today glued to their laptops playing video games and internet. I would rather be glued to plastic models with paint stains all over my work bench and my airbrush by my side!

It's great to see this kit back on the shelves, now if they would see fit to re-release the Dragon Fire 3 wheeled chopper, and the Evil Iron man 3 wheeled chopper and the L.A. Street Chopper from the late 70's , like your videos , keep them coming

Just a little history, This kit began life as the King Chopper in 1969. It had a single head light and a "California Condor" on top. The kit was re-popped in 1974 and came with dual headlights, new decals, some other minor difference and new box art.
King Chopper was Purple, Satan's Cycle was Orange. This kit is actually the Satan Cycle re-popped again but in purple and with the box art from the King Chopper; but with the name change to King Chopper II. This is why you see two decal options. But the vulture/California Condor pre-dates all of those Aurora vultures. I've been learning quite a bit watching your videos. Thanks for all the tips!

Nice old kit from Atlantis & Tom Daniels...takes me back to 1971, I built a bunch of TD Designs like the Muscle Bug and the Vampire Chopper.
A little flash on the parts? Come on gang...this is called model building skills...besides so little flash on a 50+ year old kit!
I love that you get a sanding stick with it - I used to "borrow" my mothers fingernail emery boards, boy did that make her mad too!

I’ve built 6 custom Harleys “choppers” if you wish, although choppers are custom bikes that have been minimalized, or chopped down. To my point, I think I would leave certain parts like the engine primary cover and heads in bright chrome, but blackout the cylinder fins then that the black off the fin edges to give them a custom look.

I rarely use that clear coat, I clear with Future, like I say.

As I state all the time, these are quick builds for a review, a total of 8-10 hours is spent on the kit over two days. These are not show builds and these are not videos saying "You must build like this". I make it very very clear what these are. Fast, FUN, easy build ups to show off new kits coming out.
I don't take time sanding and puttying and worrying about such minor things in a review. The kit is built as is from the box, painted, decorated and shown off so folks can see what can become of it.
If people want to take a longer time and 'perfect' their kits, that's awesome. More power to them.
      Thanks for watching!

Awesome build man! Maybe you can help me. In the mid 80's, I received a 1/8 scale black and gold T-Bucket model for Christmas. It was made by either Revell, or Monogram, I can't remember. I'm trying to find one, so I can build it again. I've looked everywhere, including ebay. Any help you can provide would be awesome!

    • @hpiguy

Revell and Lindberg made 1/8 scale T buckets.
They can be found on Ebay but command a good price these days since they are out of production.

hey, I'm 15 years old, and i wonder how do you manage to make your builds so perfect. When i put enamel paint on my builds it looks dry but it sticks to my fingers its so annoying. Also, when i put glue to glue the parts that have paint on them, the paint comes off. I want to know what i can do to fix that problem. I'm beginner by the way.

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  4 роки тому

Practice helps. You can't expect to be 'perfect' on day one and my builds are far from perfect.
You need to let the paint dry, sometimes overnight.
