Tbh the writing in this series is pretty wack and it often gives you the trashy light novel feeling you get when reading some of the other popular power fantasy or harem light novel series. That being said, I think Y2V5 was probably the best novel in the entire series easily with the tension throughout the novel. Provides closure to Chabashira too, who was hinted to have issues and ulterior motives ever since the very beginning of the series. My personal top 3 are probably Y2V5, Y1V10 for similar reasons, then Y2V1 just because it introduces a new cast during a new year and it served as a good reintroduction back into the series. Y1V7 was also pretty exciting plot-wise for obvious reasons, but I thought the sequence of events were too forced for me. Felt like the author was trying to flex Ayanokoji for no reason apart from the feel good factor. As for the poor volumes, the first few year 1 volumes were easily the weakest but I guess it was to be expected to some extent since it was introductory. The 0.5 volumes that focused on romance were also completely trash imo and they sometimes felt like fanfics of the series than actual canonical volumes. I wouldn't mind too much normally but my issue is that important info was actually put in there so you couldn't just skip it and treat it like they're side stories. Also just a little rant on Y1V8, the volume with the T-Rex. Yeah it was trash. I don't even know what the author was thinking releasing this as volume 8. This could've been Volume 7.5 and it would at the very least match the lightheartedness the author was trying to go for. But the ending of that volume REALLY could've carried the volume if it was executed better throughout. I imagine that ending was the true plot of the volume, showing what kind of power struggle was going on behind the scenes in the other years, and if done properly, this volume could've been a mystery as we slowly piece together that something isn't right. He tried dropping bits and pieces throughout the volume, but the first reveal of potential trouble came way too late and nonchalantly without much follow up for there to be any form of substance
