The New Higurashi Anime is a Sequel not a Reboot?!?

I was holding off until today to marathon both ep 1 and ep 2 and so when I found out it’s a sequel I put everything down and am now marathoning the original 4 seasons to hype this up even more
You really only need the first 2 seasons but yeah they are really good!
Just watched Episode 2. I was excited for this new series already. Now I am super excited.

The latest episode (2) definitely confirms it being a sequel. This series is also my 2nd favorite anime of all time. Though I'm really worried about how this will go, just like you. So far so good, picking up on other elements touched on near the end of the original. (like other characters having Deja vu) But we have to see if these new additions are NECESSARY for what was a damn near complete story.
We'll see in the next episodes if it's really like a new story. I read in a comment through MAL Forum about Higurashi, of an interview of Ryukishi07 himself. Ryukishi07 said that he's supervising the remake and it's going to add new things. He also said that the new anime is targeted to the old fans. I hope that the new stuff is not like Rebuild of Eva kind of thing.

So. Two things that I have noticed:
1. "The new anime will have a manga adaptation by Tomato Akase." Why would there be a Manga adaptation of an adaptation when there is already a Manga Adaptation of the VN? Unless the story is going to be different, that just seems strange to me.
2. Unless my memory has gone really bad on me (certainly possible), the date is wrong. The Anime goes out of its way to show us, twice, that Keiichi's first day of school after he returned from the Funeral was Friday June 10th, 1983, 2 days before the picnic at the shrine.
In both the VN and the original Anime, his first day back at school was Saturday June 11th, 1983, the day before they have the Picnic at the Shrine.
I cannot think of any reason to make such a pointless change, given that they just skip over the 11th entirely, unless it is a hint that this is NOT actually Onikakushi, but instead is a different, if similar, timeline.
Those are both REALLY good points. They also skipped over the card game and instead focused on the marker hide and seek which is in line with the "similar but different" timeline theory. The real question is, is this just one of the many loops rika went through? Or has the loop begun again post the og ending?
Alright, one more point I thought of.
3. The series is called Higurashi New. NEW. New. Hmm.
