This is what Kraft meant when asking Frieren "And before that?" In episode 11. He is ancient and his deeds were long forgotten. Imagine living like this. So he found his purpose in believing in The Goddess.
Serie probably know who he is, Serie by her own explanation should've older than Kraft. Altough he looks like middle aged man, like 30's and Serie still look like in her 20's, because we dont have a frame of reference on male elf, maybe male elf got that wrinkle line faster than the female, who knows 🤷♂️ its still not explained in manga

It would be spoilers to introducing her in this conversation. By what we know about them - Serie referring to herself as the mage from mythical era, the only time the Goddess walked the land, she is the oldest. Then comes Kraft as he, based on his convers with Frieren, was not alive in this era and has never met the Goddess. Have in mind people don't know each other in this World since its a big one and they don't have ways to communicate or introduce themselves one another. Kraft did not know Frieren and she is a legend after all. It's before internet age.
My theory is Serie is daughter of the Goddess but its pure speculation

27:00 I'm pretty sure Frieren was just being a troll there. She conveniently remembered the spell as soon as Fern showed up, and Fern told Sein she would scold Frieren for it later.
Personally I think Frieren didn't tell Old Man Voll that the demon king was already dead was because of his reason for protecting the village. If the land is safe then he doesn't have a purpose anymore.

I went into that show fully expecting utter nonsense and prepared to enjoy it, and it was still too much for me to finish one episode.

When I rewatched this show it's hilarious to see Fern as a child because she's the exact same just scaled up a little bit. You don't really notice because she grows up kind of gradually, but going back to child Fern I laughed out loud because it's just short Fern
the Sorie i think was only a single page in the manga, or even less than that. The anime drastically expanded the coverage of that event. Which I think is very cool, and was well worth it.
Finally the second half! We're now technically halfway through if we count the first four episode special as one episode, which we dont but it explains why the OP changes here and not earlier.
The other anime that was peak last winter was the Apotechary Diaries, I'm sure it's on your radar but just saying
George made a great point about Sein - his character gives the audience a taste of what Frieren experiences through her life. I think most people are put off by Sein at first, warm to him, and then all of a sudden he's leaving. He appears out of nowhere, then three episodes later you're wishing you'd spent more time together.
The Old Man Voll episode really makes you contemplate your life & how you'll be remembered.
The statue being stone shows how much older Kraft is. Think of our world & famous stone statues that have survived vs metal statues that don't date back quite as far back as those.
It's a journey. More about character building than telling a story. We have seen photos in this world before. In the flashback with Fern ready to jump, we saw one with her and her parents in a pendant. If you think about it, photos and diaries are how people left an impression that they were here. Much like the statues Himmel would have made. Nowadays, I guess we leave a digital footprint in videos like these as well. I don't think Frieren has any bad or mediocre episodes...

Frieren was just trolling Sein about not remembering the spell. How do we know? Because she magically (no pun intended) remembers it as soon as Fern appears. And then Fern tells Sein that she will give her an earful later (for her trolling).
About spells, I believe one book/scroll contains one spell and surely the vary in difficulty. If you have learned it you will not need the rest of the explanation in the book later. Priest spells seem also different in this regard. Spells may change over time (Folk magic vs. Flammes magic...?)
They are going to Äußerst so they can earn 1st class mage certificate. Only 1st class mages are allowed to travel north because of demon attacks and risk involved in traveling there
Remember what they say (in some cultures) when old people dream of long lost loved ones again. 🫤
Also the subtle dread on Frieren's face when she realises that Voll was not joking. Memories are her greatest treasure.

Forgetful and no longer remember a thing. Suddely remembers the most important moment in his life. I think it's the same sign.
