I worked in two kpop MVs in the past (EXO & 2NE1) as the camera operator/AC. What's even more impressive about kpop MVs back then were that principal photography was completed all in about 3 days. This meant long hours and no sleep. Unlike the US there are no unions for production workers so no 1.5x for overtime.

When artists in my town want K-pop budget looking music videos without wanting to pay more than $200🤣 SMH 🤦🏻♂️
Especially hard to make them understand when one pair of the shoes a single member is wearing costs more than that. The money in wardrobe alone beats the cost of entire productions of some vids. (Not saying it always good or always better - but just facts.) People will comment on the singing, rapping, or dancing ability but don't mention the 12-20 hrs PER DAY for YEARS these idols work to have a chance at debuting in a group.

As a Korean cinematographer who knows crew members in kpop mv scene. Its just budget difference. Most kpop mv budgets are 6 digit or 7 digit figures. Even the Korean government gives massive grants for these kpop idols mv so “Korea” will be known in the world.

This was great. I can't find any channels or tutorials that arnt rap videos. No offence to them as they are great but they all have the same vibe, shots and slow mo. Great to see other genres. I do rock covers of pop songs with my partner and film on our own so it's hard to find ideas for Rick videos or other genres.

One thing about the makeup, it's not just those 3, it's also the amount of Skin care they use. Korean do a lot of skin care things because they like clear skin. so it's Skin care, Kbeauty, digital makeup, and lighting. Then maybe skin care again after wards.

VM ARCHITECTURE is literally my fac of PHs that i know today. I knew about them after reading Dazed article about kpop mvs and digging deep, eventually i found VM,Beomjin and Paragdim vimeos. Their works literally so goood. One thing to mention too, that the fact that one korean PH can shoot with multiple projects for clients in a week is freaking crazy, i watched a video about Zany Studio (who work for EXO's overdose) ,they did multiple projects in a week with no sleep. The work ethic is so crazy but the pay is also rewarding.

Probably from just being a fan of kpop himself. The best way to learn about something is be interested and immerse yourself within it. Its honestly really hard to not be a kpop fan, there is something for everyone and music videos are definitely one of them

Damn I came hoping for an explanation of the opposite. There are so many quick fire rapid cuts I don't get enough time to process how great the shot looks like. I end up pausing the MV just so I can see how amazingly they set up the shot. I don't understand why they decide to ruin it in the edits.

The artists aren't as greedy as artists in the states and I think S Korean gov even invests in Kpop due to the massive benefit it has on economy. So music labels can put a lot more resources into music videos, concerts, merchandise, etc. Also real estate is grossly over valued in US so artists in US pretty much need to be greedy in many cases to survive. Inevitably, they'll realize they need to move music production out of California to thrive as costs are too high there. Hollywood is already doing this to a significant degree. Setting up studios in other states to create movies at much lower costs so they can in turn invest that in making more movies, tv series, etc.
