I think the D’Angelico held its own against the Gibson. Great tones and a much better price. Nothing against the Les Paul, but I’d rather have other one in my arsenal and spend the rest of my money on a killer amp
Agreed!! I feel the D'Angelico held it's own. I recently purchased a premier cause I needed a contrasting tone to my Strat. I didn't want to play a thousand LP's to find a good one...
I've heard too many other guitars that easily hold their own with Les Pauls to be surprised by this. The hype is threadbare by now. I'd buy the D'Angelico in a heartbeat.
Don't know man I've listened several time and the Gibson seems to me a bit more "open" (more hight) a bit more controlled and snappier, I think that both play really well depends on what you like.. I may buy this guitar..
I think LP has a little more warmth on both PU, but for 1/3rd of the price off, I’ll take the DeAngelico in a flash! Thanks for comparing them DeAng looks good too.
The D'Angelico sounded more Santana and the Gibson more Slash, just my 2 cents. I like both but I edge a little towards the D'Angelico because I like that smooth kind of thick sound.
I have a Dangelico Atlantic premier. It's the model priced below the deluxe in this video. The Atlantic Premier runs for $699, although you can always get it cheaper. It looks exactly like the Deluxe except that it has silver tuners and trim instead of gold. It also has Seymour Duncan assembled in Asia pickups and not true SD pickups (I couldn't tell the difference sonically). I was convinced that it was time to upgrade from the Dangelico Premier Atlantic and I just bought a 2019 Les Paul Standard 60's version for $2500. I just spent the past hour playing both and I hate to say it but the Dangelico still sounds better (I dont play metal or REALLY dirty) I'm pretty bummed that the LP is going back but I guess I will have $2500 to spend on something else.
Price doesn't equal tone these days... with Asian guitars getting so good now. I borrowed a cheap d angelo hollow body from my cousin for awhile... and it sounded and played as good as any high end guitar I have. I'm sure this atlantic is no exception. Some Gibson's sound really good though. I had one with bb pro pickups and it sounded brittle and cold... but some with different pickups sound epic. But overpriced for sure. But not as overpriced as my PRS guitars lol... but if you want a certain tone you need the guitar that has it....
I understand and I completely agree with your position, friend. If you're not happy with a guitar, you shouldn't keep it just because of name recognition. I own several D'Angelico's and my favorite is the Deluxe Ludlow, which I think is discontinued now, but you can still find it in guitar store inventory all over the place. I also own a Gibson Les Paul Standard, which I have had for many years, but I don't play it nearly as much as any of my D'Angelico's. I do love my Gibson, but I will tell you that as much as I love it, I love my D'Angelico's at least ten-times more! I purchased my first one because I found it priced too low to pass up. When I got it home, I immediately found that even the lower priced models are heavy contenders! Shortly after, and because I was so impressed, I spent a bit more money and upgraded to a Deluxe model. And, with twelve guitars in my home today, my go-to guitars are always my D'Angelico's. This is the thing that I have realized and finally admitted to myself.... As good as Gibson, Fender or any other staple brand, happen to be, most of these companies are now shells of the companies that they used to be. Even companies like Taylor and Martin don't produce guitars at the same level as they did 30-years ago, because they are producing in heavy volume. Today, their business is more about quantity and less about quality. These companies need to produce high volume, so the quality is going to suffer when you're mass-producing. Even their handmade guitars will suffer because their luthiers are under pressure to produce faster. I own my Gibson because it was one of the first quality guitars I purchased back in the day....If I had to make the decision to day, I am sure my collection would be minus a Gibson!
@@RumbleFish69 thanks for the info! I've been eyeing these deluxe models for awhile but never played one. I just ordered another Gibson with different pickups and neck wood than my last Gibson... hopefully I like it. I really need to play a d'angelico solid body deluxe... to possibly add to my collection... they look awesome. I would have bought the hollow body from my cousin but for some reason I gravitate towards the solid body sound more for my style of playing... plus most hollow bodies are big and ugly lol...
Let me know which features and tones you guys liked the best! I think both guitars sound great, but the SD '59s in the Deluxe Atlantic have a more classic creamy LP tone than the BB pros in the Gibson Standard which can be quite bright!
I have to say the Gibson Les Paul sounded richer, with more depth to me - particularly on the arpeggios - not so much difference in the mix. For all its 'faults' (weight, comfort, playability), I would rather have the Gibson - although not in the market for one at the moment as I have a PRS 594
It's interesting that you say the D'Angelico had the creamier tone. That didn't come across to me over my headphones. What I noticed was the pronounced high-end snarl that the D-Angelico had when it was overdriven. It made me think more of a Gretch or SG. Overall, I didn't think it had near the same depth as the Les Paul to its tone. Where the D'Angelico shone for me was on the jazziness of the neck pickup. I liked that better than the Les Paul. However, I thought the Les Paul was better on the overdrive and the arpeggios. Then again, that midrange tone of the Les Paul is what I love so much about it. The D'Angelico is a beautiful guitar and produces some nice tones, but the Les Paul is the more versatile instrument...unless you're trying to play it for long periods of time. :)
Gibson is more rock sound, D'angelico more blues/jazz tone in my opinion. I like very much that DAngelico is warmer and like more the look and also the price...as usually great comparision and Perfect video :) love that i subscribed Your channel Darell :)
I have the older cousin, the D'Angelico EX-SD. I love it! Easier to play as you note. Buttery neck and frets. It think it holds up to Les Paul in every aspect. At first I wasn't sure if I would like the headstock design. Now I love it and want another D'Angelico.
Overall, I'd go with the D'Angelico. Love me a warm tone. Also, I think it fared better in most of the comparisons. And for a third the cost?! Sign me up!
I recently discovered dangelico at the local store and it was this same model. I couldn’t believe how delicious the tone was and it is one of the most comfortable guitars I’ve ever held!!! It was a used one for $650, the sticker in the back said “made in Indonesia” but I thought it was a prank and I had to double check with employees to make sure it wasn’t a mistake! This guitar feels and sounds like an exotic top dollar instrument! Brand new I think it’s a bit over $800 and I’m already saving money to buy it.
Well, nothing can beat the Les Paul and in the long run you get what you pay for. That being said, the Atlantic is great as it's own stand-alone guutar and I can't wait to get my hands on one. I want one of each please.
The dangelico looks like a guitar Gibson should have made for 2019 instead of the same old same old. Ill be buying a dangelico soon hopefully, love it.
D’Angelico wins for me as I love smooth Jazzy tones, plus the fact it feels easier to play. I suspect you could get similar tones on the LP, with the same SD pick ups. It would be interesting to swap the pick ups over on these two guitars? Have you any other humbucker guitars you can compare it with? You don’t need to do a video, but if you did you could incorporate this one, with a few other guitars/videos if you have them? Thanks for your efforts, great job!
This Saturday I'm going to the guitar shop and I'll order D' Angelico Atlantic deluxe limited edition... I'm so excited. Thanks for the nice review mate!
If I would make a purchase choice I would have to go with the D'Angelico... yes, the lesPaul was a bit brighter but we could have gotten that tone by injecting some single coil push/pull action... Ooops! Paulie can't do that (stock)... So yea, Great comparison... They are two different animals. Thanks again Darrell! Love the Dire Straights thingy....
The D'angelico was like... Butter. To me, hands down, preferred the D'A over the harsher sounding Paul. Creamy D'A could be mostly pickup choice, but comfortable playability has me firmly in its corner as well.
I thought they both sounded great, until the arpeggios, where I thought the LP smoked the D'Angelico. But if the guitar that wins is the one that you decide to pick up and play and not the one that you leave hanging on the wall because it's chunky and heavy, that's a different story... The real winner is the one that you want to play right now, tomorrow, and the day after that.
That sort of knocks the 'tone-wood' argument on the head. The basswood/maple Atlantic is clearly much warmer ..... it's the pickups that make the difference.
As always, you make excellent comparison videos. The back and forth is always fair, but I am still haunted by what you said, "we listen with our eyes." The Gibson is an absolute beauty and I truly believe those very sharp buckers hold the edge over the D'Angelico... I was surprised at how great the Gibson clean tones sounded.
I swear by D'Angelico! I own several D'Angelico's ranging from modestly priced to top of the line, slightly more expensive models. Even on the higher priced end, there is no beating the price for a top-line D'Angelico! And, even with a Gibson, Les Paul in my collection, the D'Angelico has become my go-to guitar. My favorite D'Angelico, because of it's versatility, is the Deluxe Ludlow, which I believe is discontinued. A player can go from Blues to Jazz to Grunge, without missing a beat! Now, this is not to say that my Gibson goes unused, or that I don't love it, but I have just found that whether I am playing out, or in session, I use my Deluxe Ludlow more than any other guitar I own. I simply love the tones and these guitars are also a super treat to look at! In fact, I get more compliments with my D'Angelico than any other guitar I own.
This comparison is not one in which a clear winner emerges... Yes, they are different, but both sounded good. My take is that D'Angelico can modernize an old shape / features and not incur the wrath of Les Paul fans, which is what has happened every time in recent history that Gibson has tried to do that. Many (most?) Les Paul fans are surely the most staid, even curmudgeonly guitarists, which is a shame. So, hats off to D'Angelico for improving on a standard form. To wrap up, I think the Gibson will have a good resale value even years from now... The D'? Time will tell, but I'd be willing to bet the resale value of those guitars will be nowhere near as good as the Les Paul. Still, I buy guitars to play and gig with, not to resell, and if were in the market for that type of instrument I think I'd rather play the D'Angelico.
That is a tough comparison Darrell! Both guitars sounded great. I think the biggest difference for me was in the bridge position-I preferred the D'Angelico. For comfort I do really like the feel of a satin neck finish. Man, here I am saving up for a Les Paul Traditional, and now you throw this wrinkle into the mix! Haha great video Darrell, Thanks!
I agree with James Duckworth. If i were to be offered my choice for free, i choose the Gibson, just because..., However if we are spending MY hard earned cash I grab the D'angelico, and then use the leftover cash for a decent amp and pedal and get a bigger variety of tone, while playing a more comfortable instrument.
Hello, I am quite surprised of this comparison. The D'Angelico makes me think of Telecaster Deluxe: flat top with pickguard, 2 vintage humbuckers, thin body, belly cut. Differences are the head with tuners not in line, and set neck with shaped heel joint. About this tone comparison, my taste goes to the BB pros of the Les Paul, more modern, less vintage. If I was a gigging musician , I would choose the Telecaster Deluxe or a Stratocaster. Being a guitar lover, your blue Les Paul is awesome. I dislike the bizarre shape of this D'Angelico, the weird head shape. Price wise , my preference for an American telecaster deluxe. Anyway, interesting comparison and demo , thanks Darrell 👍
The clean sound of the D'angelico clearly wins the case. Les Paul sounds a bit distorted even when played clean. Atleast that's what I think. However, he plays both guitars so good, it's kinda hard to pick one.
The LP was definitely brighter, especially the bridge pickup. That said, one could adjust the eq on the Atlantic to add some crispness, especially with the price and playability edge of the D’Angelico. Also, coil tap can brighten it up some too.
Just getting caught up on the videos from the past few weeks so first I have to say that I love the intro. Very nicely put together. As for this video, it may be sacrilege but I found the Atlantic to be much more pleasing to my ear. I will say that tonally they were much more similar than I had anticipated though. That’s my two cents and it’s worth exactly what you’ve paid for it. Keep up the great work.
I played the cheaper premier version at GC and was shocked that it had zero sustain... like nothing at all. I'm curious to try the deluxe to see if more. The d'angelico had a nice open sound though... similar to their hollow body guitar. Even the cheap d'angelico hollow body guitar sounds epic...
Darrell, in my 53yrs of experience I always felt uncovered Pickups were brighter and a little Hotter than Covered ones. I prefer the sound of the Angelico. Have a Merry Christmas my brother!
I greatly appreciate this comparison. I'd definitely go with the Deluxe Atlantic for price, comfort and it's playability. Everybody knows what the LP has to offer and in this comparison, the D'angelico held up quite well.
This D'Angelico is an amazing guitar. The LP is of course nice but the price difference is mind boggling, notoriety I suppose. Thanks to Darrell for this review, it gives us all a viable option!
NICE! I found this looking for reviews on D'Angelico because I saw a solid body Premier TD for $300.00. I have to say I didn't find much on that model but I bought it anyway. They claimed it was in good condition but IMO it's basically brand new probably NOS. I have to say it's an amazing guitar and the tear drop/LP style is pretty cool. Still looking for a great deal on a Firefly LP style with 3 pick ups in a color I like. The D'Angelico purchase and my want for a Firefly is because I watch your channel.
The D'angelico is a great sounding guitar. I like the thinner body that's much like a LP Junior and the price point is right on these. Thanks for sharing, I will have to check in of these out. 🎶🎸🎶
I like the D'Angelico better all around, it sounds better, and it definitely looks better. I think I will buy one for my ten year old daughter. That girl is an old soul, she took one look at that guitar and declared it would be hers.
Having BEEN a Gibson player for about 35 years (mostly LP Customs and Standards) about a year ago I was introduced to a D'angelico Excel DC...and was COMPLETELY blown away in every aspect. I since have acquired several Excel DC's (their version of a ES335), a few Excel SS's (think Howard Robert's Fusion), 2 EX-SD and 2 Deluxe Atlantics (to replace a few of my higher end Les Pauls). I even jumped on their acoustic bandwagon, purchasing 2 Excel Gramercys! These D'angelico's are ALL KILLER GUITARS, at a third of Gibson's price!!! Do yourselves a favor and go out and try one for yourselves. You will undoubtedly experience exactly what I did, and buy it immediately!
Man. As far as sounds go, I'm really torn. They both sound amazing. I guess givin' that price point on the Atlantic, man, you can't beat that! That Les Paul is a gorgeous guitar though! Great video Darrell!
3 yrs later: I've got my D'Angelico (Deluxe Brighton) in my lap now. Swamp ash body with a maple top, Seth Lovers, ebony fretboard, actual mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays. Absolutely love it. I also have my Les Pauls. That Standard you're playing is unlike any Standard I've ever seen. I'm guessing it's an exclusive edition with that top, no pickguard, clear knobs, and BB Pros? Anyway, they are two completely different beasts and I generally prefer the effortless power and sustain of my Les Pauls, likely owing to the mass. In the case of the Brighton, one look quickly screams SG. It's brighter and sustains less. And is probably the more versatile guitar, totally depends on your style on that. But man, they are incredible. The neck/body joint is seductive. You just love holding it there when you're in between songs (like SGs, it's neck heavy), and the upper fret access is insane.
Late to the party..Former Martin owner that discovered DAngelico, and never turned back. Got rid of my Martin for a Gramercy,, going after my first electric and I can't wait. Getting a DAngelico, DC, though the Atlantic is calling my name as well.
Thank you, Im glad I saw this video. I was about to get a Daneglico. I dont think I will after this, the Gibson has so much more clarity IMO. However, I'd love to see the Les Paul up against the Bob Weir model I was looking at. It's $2,000, a bit closer to the Les Paul price, so I wonder if the Dangelico sparkles more at that price point? .
Wonder how the D'Angelico ATLANTIC would sound in comparison to the Ultimate Epi? Both have Seymour Duncan PU's (albeit the P-Rails in the Epi) and comparing the splits as well as the humbucker tones would be interesting. Thanks for another great vid.
I thought the Dangelico sounded brighter overall with a snappier high end and more of a defined bottom end. I think I just don't like burstbuckers at all. I also think I'm gonna buy a Dangelico very soon. I just gotta decide between the two models. Kinda like the other one more than the single cut but I need the singlecut more for the two humbuckers. So idk. Time will tell along with my G.A.S!!!
Great comparison. Would love to get your thoughts on the Yamaha Revstar series. They seem to fall somewhere in between these two guitars with the mahogany body/maple top, but thinner body than the Les Paul with arm and body contours. They have models with humbuckers, P90s, and Trons. Thanks as always for the great content!
Well that was a surprise---to me anyway. If I was listening with my eyes shut I would have sworn the D'Angelico was a Les Paul and the Les Paul was a cheaper alternative, if that makes sense.
could you give your thoughts on the D'Angelico vs the PRS SE custom ? Stuck on a decision. Thank you....Happy Holidays. You're the BEST channel on youtube HANDS DOWN.
I agree ! If a song hadn't been created yet with those arpeggios , please do it ! It sounds nice , and would fit well in something like a ballad , due to the emotionnal feeling they give .
I am going to call it a toss up on the tone. But price, and comfort from what this man is telling us, d,angelico wins hands down. Looks great as well. But, who doesn't want a Gibson Standard?
There is something magical about playing classic Les Paul for me. Its like "Taming of the shrew", its nasty bad girl, but when you get used to it that tone
You keep adding fuel to the wood debate! Hands down I'd take the D.A. Over Gibson. Not a Gibson fan, not to take away from the legacy, but don't believe they are still the best , just an original. I've had many guitars over the years that I thought were on par if not better!
I thought they sounded very similar, with the Gibson being slightly brighter, which surprised me. I just can't get over how beautiful that D'Angelico is though.
When I seen all those Deangelico guitars up on the high wall at GC last week I thought , This company has a plan to get a bigger slice of the market pie . These videos are definitely helping that cause :0) I'd pick the Deangelico over the Gibson for several reasons. Tones are first , since I love warm over bright and the clarity was certainly there too. Then there's price ,looks ,playability of the neck and of course that tummy cut :0) .. Even the most basic LTD has a tummy cut . Some things are really important to us older guys 😁😁😁
I would love to hear the comparison of a DAngelico solid body and the Gibson Les Paul standard 50s and 60s models. In this video, I felt the Les Paul had a much wider range of tone but much more geared towards hard rock music where as the DAngelico is definitely warmer, creamier and I would prefer it for Jazz or funk music.
The D'Angelico, hands down. Over the years, I've held onto my 1969 Les Paul, which I scrambled and scraped to buy in that fateful year, but, honestly, I've kept it primarily for sentimental value, for memories. The Les Paul models have a fantastic image, but they're overly heavy, uncomfortable sitting or standing and, frankly, a bit crude. (If you want a vintage Gibson, rob orphans and widows, if that's what it takes, to get an old Byrdland--my '69 Byrd is the finest guitar I've ever touched.) Okay, back to the issue at hand. For all-around playing, D'Angelico guitars are finely made, handsomely finished--and comfortable (I play an Excel mini DC, which, once you get used to the heavy head dropping down, actually turns our to be an ergonomically excellent guitar). Every player has his or her own tastes and quirks, but, in their price range, I find D'Angelico guitars to be unbeatable--and gorgeous. But what about the sound? You just heard it. Richer, more-versatile sound from the D'Angelico. While one side of me is chauvinist and rooting for Gibson, it's just not the company it was fifty to sixty years ago. I hope Gibson gets it together, but, in my view, the company is living on yesteryear's rep. D'Angelico designs are intelligent, functional and realized with very high quality builds. As for Gibson, well, I wish I'd kept my 1970 ES-335, instead of hanging on to the Les Paul. Dumbest music-related decision I've ever made. In more-human terms, the Les Paul looks sexy, but the D'Angelico IS sexy.
Feedback meant to be helpful, not trollish. A more fair comparison would have been to an Epiphone Les Paul Standard. This takes the whole 'its cost 3x 4x more' thing out of the comparison. Any American made instrument Gibson, Fender, PRS etc. will have that 'issue'. Any time your comparing a Gibson or even an Epiphone Les Paul you should list the Year, Make, and Model. With all the changes Gibson has been through a 2016 Les Paul Standard (yours looks like a 2018) to a 2020 can be very different. For example, I have an 2014, Les Paul Futura, which has a maple neck and a p90 in the Neck position. Very different for a Les Paul.
Thanks for the comparison, Darrell. I hadn't checked you out in a long time, since I purchased a Wolf Les Paul copy at the bargain price of $350 w/traveling hard shell case. To my ears the Atlantic was far more caressing to the acoustic nerve. Even the "clean" in the Les Paul had too much sawtooth wave. To me the fatter the sound the sweeter the tone. And the Atlantic was definitely FAT! ☺
Both are great but most people recognize gibson as "The guitar sound" because its sound has been played for years and years, it became more familiar to our ears. On the other hand, D angelico is not entirely new sound however it makes a little character to its own. In conclusion, both guitars are great, very great actually.. For the money, id do D Angelico because ita just 3rd of a Gibson and it can keep up with Gibson. However, for me, its still not affordable haha
That Les Paul is the old junk they used to make. I just purchased my first Atlanta and I'll receive it tomorrow. We'll see how good these guitars really are. I bought the all brand new supro 1605 RJ. It's a beast. By far the best amp I've ever owned. Great video thank you
Would a comparison between the atlantic and an lp special be more appropriate? That at least te choice im weighing as regular lp are too heavy for old me
So I actually prefered the tone of the Les Paul, which I think is because it doesn't sound like a Les Paul. It was bright and not very thick sounding. I'd probably buy the D'Angelico and swap out the pickups because I really don't care for dark pickups. Way easier to remove clarity with tone knob or amp eq than try to bring out clarity that just isn't there.
It's difficult to chose a winner on sound. I think I listen with my eyes too much! Lol...I love the look of the gold pickups and tortoise shell pickgaurd! I should listen with my eyes closed!👍😎🎸🎶
I think the D’Angelico held its own against the Gibson. Great tones and a much better price. Nothing against the Les Paul, but I’d rather have other one in my arsenal and spend the rest of my money on a killer amp
James Duckworth I think Gibson had its day time for innovation
Agree 100 %
Not to mention I would be way less worried about headstock breakage with the Atlantic
Not going to lie, that’s why I go with the Epiphone Les Paul. Almost the same quality as the Gibson with the right setup
I honestly like the Les Paul tone a little more, but not $2000.00 more. The white Atlantic is going to look great in my collection!
👍 The white Atlantic is a VERY pretty guitar.
I completely agree.
My $200 Oscar Schmidt Les Paul sounds damn near as good as either one though.
Did you get the white one with gold pick ups or the lesser cost silver pick ups version?
D'angelico wins by a country mile on the clean sounds. That's pure creamy goodness. On the distorted sound it's more of a toss-up.
Sokath, his ears uncovered!
The D’Angelico looks like a piece of playable Art Deco. Really cool guitar.. and it sounds great. Add it to the, “I hope to get one one day” list.
Being a big Art Deco fan, they immediately drew my eye. I bought one yesterday
The D'Angelico sounded more Santana and the Gibson more Slash, just my 2 cents. I like both but I edge a little towards the D'Angelico because I like that smooth kind of thick sound.
I had the same thought! When I heard the D'Angelico' s neck pick up, I remembered Santana's PRS!
I totally agree
Spot on

Dude details on that les paul, ive been dying to know what year/model/color it is
Hi!
2014 standard in ocean perimeter blue :)

I agree!! certainly more SG than LP!
Agreed! I really love the headstock now :)
The D’Angelico wins my vote. Really nice bright sounds and it’s playability is just well unbeatable. Loved the video man
That Atlantic headstock is all kinds of old time class!
Those headstocks... Considered from the eastern coast of the Atlantic are extremely Newyorker, big... And cool too...
Don't mind me, I'm just here for the silky smooth tones.
Lol same !!! 😂
Excellent video ! I’ll take the Atlantic....even if the price was closer. Your analysis is spot on! Thanks bro 🤗👏🏻
Thanks Sk!
Been waiting for this comparison! Great vid, I'm really loving the D'Angelico solid bodies.
This Saturday I'm going to the guitar shop and I'll order D' Angelico Atlantic deluxe limited edition... I'm so excited.
Thanks for the nice review mate!
Did u buy it???
Jeff Hazen - icenic_wolf Well said.
Dangelico sounds better to my ear that probably has a lot to do the Duncan pickups I really don’t like burstbuckers
👍 Put a set of Duncan's in any guitar and you'll have some excellent tone!
Darrell Braun Guitar haha I just posted that as a comment 🤷🏼♂️
That sort of knocks the 'tone-wood' argument on the head. The basswood/maple Atlantic is clearly much warmer ..... it's the pickups that make the difference.
Actually he is wrong. The Deluxe Atlantic has an swamp ash body
Both sound great but I'm leaning toward the D'Angelico smooth sounding and it's great looks:D
I like the look of the LP better, but the tone and price of the D'Angelico. Great video as always brother!
D’Angelico has one of the most beautiful headstocks I ve ever seen.Sounds great too.Loved the tone of neck especially.I hope I get it someday.🖤
Love the new intro! Both guitars are amazing. I would probably go with the Atlantic for the comfort factor at the heel alone.
yeah, that intro.... and then the pick slide.... great touch.
For some reason the d'angelico sounds more like a hollow body, with the tiniest tiniest hint of Strat. I like it.
Anytime!
Hopefully you get the chance to try both out in person 👍
Anyone done a tone comparison between the cheaper Atlantic premier and the deluxe? The premier has SD pickups but it doesn't call them 59's.
I'm excited to see how it goes against another single cut, the Tele or the lightweight and thin, the SG
Yeah, D'angelico was quite muddy it'd be good for indie
Just getting caught up on the videos from the past few weeks so first I have to say that I love the intro. Very nicely put together. As for this video, it may be sacrilege but I found the Atlantic to be much more pleasing to my ear. I will say that tonally they were much more similar than I had anticipated though. That’s my two cents and it’s worth exactly what you’ve paid for it. Keep up the great work.
The Paul had an overall rounder sound, and definitely more sustain. The "D" does sound good though, and appears to be a very good bargain!
Darell the first part with distortion you played was awesome.Amazing riff!!! Congratulations!!
D'Angelico, great sound beautiful design.. and reasonable price.
The neck pickup on the D Angelico absolute bliss
The price difference between the two is more of a factor of country of origin than anything else.
Another great comparison Darrell, I like the D'Angelico over the LP. More Clarity clean or dirty
I'm really liking the D'Angelico!
It's definitely got a very cool vibe to it 👍
I would like to see the D’Angelico comparison with a PRS. I think the style and builds are very similar.
I could hear a clear difference between the neck and bridge pickups on the LP. On the DA almost sounded the same.
Late to the party..Former Martin owner that discovered DAngelico, and never turned back. Got rid of my Martin for a Gramercy,, going after my first electric and I can't wait. Getting a DAngelico, DC, though the Atlantic is calling my name as well.
I think that there are more tones difference between Gibson's pick ups than D'Angelico's. Both instruments are great!
Thank you, Im glad I saw this video. I was about to get a Daneglico. I dont think I will after this, the Gibson has so much more clarity IMO. However, I'd love to see the Les Paul up against the Bob Weir model I was looking at. It's $2,000, a bit closer to the Les Paul price, so I wonder if the Dangelico sparkles more at that price point? .
I have always loved the tone of a Les Paul, but that D'Angelico is truly sweet sounding.
For me playability is everything. If I'm not comfortable playing it, I sound like crap. So D'Angelico for me!
Thank you for comparisson! Just want to buy D'Angelico now! I have Gibson Les Paul already and I love it, but the weight...
Is it Premier or Deluxe version by the way?
Hi! This one is the Deluxe Atlantic 👍
I preferred the Les Paul. I always will lol. Then again Darrell could make a matchbox with strings attached sound good 👍
I like the lp more for the solo but the atlantic is equal or better for everything else atleast to my ears. Nice vid!
Just took a chance on a D'Angelico Bedford Deluxe this past week...might have to grab an Atlantic next.
could you give your thoughts on the D'Angelico vs the PRS SE custom ? Stuck on a decision. Thank you....Happy Holidays. You're the BEST channel on youtube HANDS DOWN.
those arpejos were beautiful. You are an amazing musician
Thanks for the kind words MC!
I agree ! If a song hadn't been created yet with those arpeggios , please do it ! It sounds nice , and would fit well in something like a ballad , due to the emotionnal feeling they give .
Please do Chapman Guitars, thank you :)
Hi!
I'll see what I can do :)
Ben Hackett/ I concur.
Hey!! That new intro is so tasty!!
Thanks Oscar!
that strategic pick slide!
Fantastic job ! Well presented video ! The sound of basswood is so good ! I wonder in a good Marshall at loud volume how it would behave ???
I thought they sounded very similar, with the Gibson being slightly brighter, which surprised me. I just can't get over how beautiful that D'Angelico is though.
Yeah, it's a very pretty guitar 👍
Oh those '59s😎 the DiAngelico sounds so sweet.
When I seen all those Deangelico guitars up on the high wall at GC last week I thought , This company has a plan to get a bigger slice of the market pie . These videos are definitely helping that cause :0)
I'd pick the Deangelico over the Gibson for several reasons. Tones are first , since I love warm over bright and the clarity was certainly there too. Then there's price ,looks ,playability of the neck and of course that tummy cut :0) .. Even the most basic LTD has a tummy cut . Some things are really important to us older guys 😁😁😁
😄👍 The older I get the more I value a comfortable guitar!
👏🏻👏🏻Great comparison!!Thank you
The D'Angelico, hands down.
The Atlantic actually sounded much better in certain clips. Quite a value and nice looking too.
I'd take the d'angelico for jazz and the Gibson for Rock. I'm curious how the sustain of the deluxe vs Gibson is... since deluxe has thin body?
Think I'd go with the D'angelico!
Glad to have you back on the channel!
Hope you're enjoying your LP style guitar 🎸
That at least te choice im weighing as regular lp are too heavy for old me
Greta video! Thanx. Ever tried Reverend guitars? Would be cool to see a video from you👍
Nice video. Great playing. Would have been nice to hear a Les Paul with more PAF like humbuckers in it like Seth Lovers or SD Antiquities.
