- CAMPING IN AN ABANDONED TOWER
Exploring some of Yorkshire’s history and camping unexpectedly in a piece of it. My plan was to camp in my tent but the call of a fire place on a gloomy day changed that.

get dem trees cut off top a that tower b4 roots a mash up stonework n bring it to ruin...
@@RootsLion yes I think it needs saving. I might have a word with the land owner and see.
hi allen just watching yr video sitting at fire it looks absolutely beautiful ❤
That landscape looks so different from my home. Wild, yet manicured.
Am i the only one that clicks like even before watching it because i know it's going to be amazing?
Me too because we know he will deserve it :)
I always do as well so I don't forget. Every video on this channel is fantastically well presented especially with the drone footage and extremely high level of climbing / camping skills !
Thanks guys! I hope to keep the standard up there. I really enjoyed making this one 😬
I'm not the only one either!
I’m there with you👍
What an absolutely gorgeous place. The drone footage is just incredible. Happy that you and Blue are having an amazing adventure. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Gloria USA
Thanks 😊
The levels of engineering in Britain in the 19th and 20th centuries was the very best the world has ever seen. The first tower with the slit down the centre was almost certainly used to find levels by suspending a line down the middle, setting it and then using it as a datum to set other levels in the landscape. Just love industrial archaeology in the UK.
Yes good shout mate. I actually have an industrial brass plumb Bob from that era that would have been perfect for it👍👍👍
Hi from New Zealand Al, love your videos, truly inspiring ❤️ Whenever I'm walking up a hill I try to copy your bouncy style, I pretty much fail but make myself laugh trying. And my Springer Spaniel puppy is hoping to be as awesome as Blue when he grows up. Thank you 😊
😂 keep bouncing mate. It’s all about enjoying it especially with your dog👊
amazing mate , that tower looked amazing 👏 I can't believe how well trained BLUE is
He’s a pretty awesome dog👌
Camping with a fireplace ! Nice !
Hod on a minute, what in the absolute cultured fingered musical nylon stringed sculdugery is going on here. Is this the intro for a landscape painting class. Have I clicked the wrong feed 🤣. .. superb mate I'm commenting and I haven't even finished the intro yet 😀 Action darlings!
😂
Perfect, blooming perfect.! Absolutely fascinating, to think that the place on the moor ,in the hills by the res, was actually a place of work.!!. Brilliant place re_used many years later Thank's Blue for taking Alan on this historical adventure . ATVB 2U and Alan. Scott Somerset
It was a lovely small adventure and nice to see these places which soon get forgotten 👍👍👍
Well done on the fire! Fire just takes camping to a whole other level. That’s why I bring 250lbs of mixed Hickory, Pinon, and Red Cedar for the winter camping.
😂 be prepared 👍
Awesome, thanks Al. Really interesting place. Great drone piloting! I actually ducked when you went through the second window!
Wanted to write a really eloquent comment on this amazing video, because WOW! doesn't seem to do the job. Loved the camera work with the drone. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us. Actually, it might be a good thing that the beautiful tower is hard to access, so people don't ruin such a beautiful structure. Some of the landscape was kind of eerie, though. I wouldn't have wanted to turn my back on some of those trees.
😂 the trees definitely were strange. I should have filmed a few more that I saw that were really weird! Thank you though. I’m glad you appreciated this mini adventure. 😊
An outstanding piece of work. A joy to watch.
Your the king of the castle Al and Blue is a little Prince 🙂
If only I owned it😬
I really think your channel could grow this up coming winter! You have the best winter videos where you get into problems and that’s what viewers on UA-cam like!
I’ll definitely be getting out there😉👍
I enjoy watching you two. Beautiful scenery and awesome fireplace. Love Blue. Many Blessings.....Sandy
BLUE LOVES YOU !!!!
Did have a previous favourite backpacking/camping channel until I discovered Bushman and Blue love all your content have watched nearly all of your videos now love it how no matter what nature throws at you and blue your both still positive and always smiling. You are a lot like myself love the extreme conditions best time to go out
Well I’m glad you enjoy the videos. I always keep smiling😬
Tremendous video (as per usual). Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
What a lovely dawg! Awesome eys! Brought back memories of my beautiful Dobie girl, Lady. We used to have fun camping and at the rnage and all over the place. Brought a tear to my eye.
Awwww mate they are truly man’s best friend 👊👊👊
Amazing video always a pleasure to watch you and blue xx
I live in the USA, the state of Alabama to be exact; we rarely get snow and if we do, its only about 1 - 3 inches and usually the temps go up and it melts away within a few hours. I was told from my grandparents that it once snowed 14 - 16 inches back about 1960 here in Alabama, and that it shut down everything, schools, groceries, and job places for several days . We get less and less each year, probably due to warming of the earth. When I was younger, I camped out a lot with my dogs, but as you will find out, age makes you begin to camp in the cold less and less. The lowest temps here in winter rarely ever gets below 20 degrees F. I really enjoy your camping out with Blue , an look forward to your next adventure. I am subscribed by the way!
By the way, you are very tough; I have never had to endure the severe cold an wind that you do on the mountains.
Thank you Terry. I don’t feel we get as much snow here as we did when we were kids. I love getting out and camping in the snow. It’s my favourite 😬
What a fantastic place to camp!
Just caught this as a first time viewer. What a brilliant video, I absolutely love the uniqueness of this place and would love to camp myself. I am going to subscribe and have a look at some of your other videos. Keep up the great content. Give Blue an ear scratch from me,
Dave
Welcome mate👍. Well you’ve many awesome adventures to catch up on👊
Brilliant video. What an awesome little folly. Great camping spot.
Yes I love surprises like that. Worked out perfectly 👍
What a gem of a place Al. Usually UA-cam plays out the same old same old. This was new and a breath of fresh air. 😍
Cheers Paul. It ended up being one of my favourite adventures even though quite simple. Quite a magical forgotten place. If I owned it I’d turn it into a bothy 👌👍
Brilliant video, scenery, history, engineering you n blue! It's got it all 👍🙂
Thanks bud. I like exploring these forgotten places. 😬
Another great video Al always a pleasure to watch and what an absolutely amazing place you found keep up the great work 🧡🧡🧡🏕️
Excellent video work! Fascinating history of the area.
Thanks Bill. Loads of history in the area👌
I've never wanted a fire to light more in my whole life 🤣
It was perfect on that grey day👌😂
Really enjoyed this one Al, great film. That looked like a tough walk out!! 😃👍🏻
Cheers Nick. 👊
Ahh I love you two, love yours and Blues adventures it really brightens my day. Your bond is so special. Keep doing what you're doing. My husband and I love watching you both, so inspiring we love the great outdoors. You're inspiring us to bit camping, bit older than you, think we're going to give it a try. Been looking at tents tonight thanks for the inspiration 🥰❤️
😊 thank you. Definitely get some gear and do some camping. Just start at some of the more remote campsites then it’s a lot easier👍👍👍
Amazing countryside and what a great place to overnight. Very nice.
Amazing vid, Great place to camp, thanks for taking us to places i can only dream of visiting in my old age, Blu is just the best
Most will never have seen that place as it’s forgotten about so nice to show it 👍👍👍
Wonderful Allan👍👍👍
Myself and my best mate bivvied on grinlow tower (Soloman's temple) near Buxton in February a few years ago, we actually camped on the top viewing platform because the wind in the lower section was like a tornado lol we had a fire log which we kept contained and disposed of the mess the next day, it was an exciting camp. Great video as usual👍🏻
Wow sounds cool. These nights are always the most memorable 😬👊
@@BUSHMANandBLUE absolutely 👍🏻
Interesting adventure, really enjoyed the drone footage (as always) and the fire / overnight in the tower. Looking forward to the design and make project!
Thanks Liz. I’m going to get back to making some cool stuff😬
Little carpet and a couple of nice curtains boom home sweet home ! 😄👌 beautiful country side and beautiful filming and music , good job ! 👍
Literally that is it! Simple but who needs more😉👍
Loved that one my kind of adventure 👍👍
Simple but interesting 👍👍👍
Loved the video 💕🐾💕🐾
Stunning Job! Thanks for taking us along. Blue is a lucky dog.
We are good for each other 🥰
@@BUSHMANandBLUE t think you have the best dog in the world ❤
🥰 I agree
I grew up in Barnsley I live in Canada now this is great stuff - thanks for all the effort that you have put in to your channel love it!
👊👊👊
Al & Blue living the life of Riley, in Merry Olde England. Cheers mate , lovely time had by all .
😂 we are trying. I’d actually live in that tower too😉
As soon as you stumbled on that tower with the fireplace I was like "I'd totally be sleeping in there".... sure enough.
Great little adventure. ❤
Lovely place for definite. It need restoring😬
Great vid, enjoyed it
Lovely film, as always Al. I really like the grey misty shots (I must be slightly unhinged!). Beautiful drone footage and music to accompany it. Looking forward to hearing more about your project too. Have a lovely week, liz
😂Thanks Liz. Definitely not unhinged. It’s always quite calming on those days😬
Superb video Al, very interesting, great place to camp as well. It looked super snug for you and Blue once the fire was going.
Fires always help😬. It was ace😉
Maybe a controversial point. In my opinion your best ever film and can't stop watching it! Of course I love the mountain stuff, don't stop, but this has so so much content. Those structures are amazing as was the drone footage. Absolutely love the humour in this too. Pure class this one, ta.
Well I’m glad you enjoyed it. It does show you don’t need ‘epic adventure’ to have an awesome night out in the wilds. I really enjoyed it😬
Don’t care what the history books say… that first tower near Roundhill is a Stargate!
😂 it’s pretty cool for definite and film worthy.
I love your Videos
Thanks 😊
Just found your channel. Nice positive presentation and what a LOVELY dog! 😊
Welcome mate! There are loads of great adventures to watch spreading the positivity 😬👍👍👍
Great to see you light that fire in the lost fireplace. Wonderful drone footage through the tower too, totally unexpected when starting from a reservoir. Good you both escaped from the pea soup bracken in one piece! 😋
Thanks Mike. It was lovely having that fire. A real home from home.
Absolutely love your videos thank you 👍👍
Lovely Tower with a fantastic Fireplace ❤apart from the open drafty Windows , I'd have block them up for the night that's for sure.
I wish I owned it as I’d fit windows and make it cosy
What a little gem that tower is
The drone footage with that music is truly beautiful :)
Thanks. There isn’t much choice in music off UA-cam but I try make it work. 👍
Great video Al...You've found a stunning place there to camp and kudos on the steady drone flying 😁
😂it was windy too with the drone. Risking it for the video😉
Lovely country side. Love it
Still can't understand how you're still on 30k subs. I voted for you on the TGO awards survey by the way! Good luck!
It will slowly build it’s just getting seen. I need everyone to share my channel and tell their friends 😬. Thanks for voting for though massively appreciated 👊
Hi Al &Blue .. I Love all your uploads. All 10.out 10 . But this one was a 10 pluss Loved it . All the best from Tommy Yorkshire 🤗👍
Wow thank you Tommy boy. Greatly appreciated. I really enjoyed this one 😬
That tower was a really cool place to camp. Loved the little fireplace, it really made the place work. Couple of windows and a door, a little furniture, and bang, you’ve got yourself a cozy retreat! Of course, that was if you owned it. Still, a nice place to visit once in a while. That’s why I love your videos. The places you go and the things you do. Another great one 👍. Thanks!
I’d love to refurbish that place and make it into a secret get away. 😬thanks Steve.
@@BUSHMANandBLUE Being it’s kind of isolated, you might be able to fix it up a little. Maybe some sort of window covers and a door of some sort. Anything is possible.
Drone footage!! Unbelievable al! Engrossed! Another cracking video mate! ATB
Cheers Mark. It was a good adventure albeit a simple one. There is loads of interesting stuff out there that we never see.
This would make a great home for Prince Andrew after being kicked out of Buckingham Palace!
Hi Allen nice drone shots the tower had me scanning it for details the tower is very nice as shell a blizzard be a good test of plenty of brush to cover window collect plenty wood use it as chum place your tent inside nice plenty room for you blue nice history oh how to turn it into snow shelter wrap a tarp around it cut wind out once that stone heats place is warm excellent find
I’ll have to get my tool out and fit some windows and a door😬😬😬
You do have such an amazing friend in Blue. The love sparkles in his eyes. Your Country side is stunning as is your drone footage. Awesome that yobos are too lazy to go hiking. 😂. Horrible seeing these beautiful structures get graffitied and worse. Love your content.
Not many yobos out in the country that why I live there😬😉
Interesting camp that one mate, always good to find some different places that have long been forgotten about. 👍👍
Cheers Kev mate👍. I’ll have to find some more
Really nice video, great footage and an interesting adventure. I can empathise with the type 2 bracken bashing fun. There is loads of it over where I live, really hard work getting anywhere off the path. Its harder than walking uphill 🙂
Thanks bud. Definitely tough going especially in the rain but always love the adventure 😬
Simply brilliant as always. Soon as I saw the tower and fireplace i knew that was the 1 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 love it.
Cheers bud. It was pretty cool staying in there and very much unexpected. I thought it would be a dirty ruin. Just nice to be out as always 👊
@@BUSHMANandBLUE just goes to show plenty of gems in the most unlikely places 👌🏼
An Ace vid Al, with some fabulous drone footage. 🏛️👌👊
Thanks 😊
Concerned to see you making your way through the bracken always understood brecken to be a cancer risk because of the ptaquiloside it contains maybe it isn't active in the winter.
I know this place well, used spend a lot of time up there when I was young not a long walk from reservoir. It's owed by swinton estate, if look round well there's remains of the railway line.
Yes I wish the old railways were still in use. Or even just made into cycle paths 👍👍👍
@@BUSHMANandBLUE
If you go higher up, there is a green lane track, also there should be a water fall not sure if you found that.
Just be careful like I say it's owned by swinton estate and they will be shooting at this time of year.
Loved this one. What a high class both y that would make!once walked through a field of rapeseed to reach a small lake thought i had walked 10miles nightmare😂
It would be an amazing bothy. I think more bothys should be made for people to use👍
Another lovely video with great drone footage and interesting details. I had to go on tangents and look up 'Bushwhacker', an Australian comic from the late fifties (not the later Marvel one) I instantly remembered and ofcourse the Arngill Tower.
I’ve been nicknamed Bush Whacker at times over the years 😂
@@BUSHMANandBLUE
So You look like a big skateboard with a sail on it, do You? I'd never thought.
I'm just kidding.
But Brackenwhacker doesn't sound bad either.
Awesome video what a location magnificent structures some brilliant stonework around these Water Authorities places. Anyhow all the best Cheers Take Care. Blue likes the fireside Brilliant BK
Thanks BK. There are some hidden gems that are never really seen. I’ll have to show some more😉
Fun little hike Al. The little building you stayed in reminded me of a giant Rook from the game of chess lol. Be safe my friend ✌️
😂 wow it actually is👍
What a place to stay at looked like a hard walk in but definitely worth it mate atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
It turned out nice😬😬😬.
That was a bit different Al and I approve. Bloody brilliant night out that matey. Fantastic flying aswell you big show off going through doors etc🤣. Stunning footage pal. I noticed how low the reservoirs were going over the m62 , Booth wood and Scammondon. Keep up the good work fella . Take care Al and look forward to the next adventure.
😂 The drone definitely gets tested. Even with all this rain the reservoirs are all still really low.
Great film, I really enjoyed this one, I think it was the fire 🔥 and the accommodation that made it more interesting for me.
That building was fantastic, a lot of effort went in to that construction, brilliant.
I always enjoy the films but don’t really comment, this film was special.
Also just to say, I have never had an animal but your dog is awesome/fantastic.
Thanks, cheers, take care. 👍👍👍
Thanks Chris much appreciated👍. A different type of adventure but still the same outcome😬😬😬
Cool spot , enjoyed the video 😁
That Folly you spent the night is was incredible. Not a lot of write up on its specific history online sadly, whoever built it did some incredibly good dry brickwork on a really well done foundation.
It is beautifully built with some amazing shaped stone. It needs maintaining 👍
@@BUSHMANandBLUE Agreed for sure. Now that first tower, that one is for sure a Grade 2 Listed structure, but this one I didn't see any information on the English Heritage web site for status (but I am no expert on navigating their information). If it isn't it should be!
Amazing, only discovered you yesterday and ive watched about 20 videos already lol, brilliant stuff
😂😂😂 I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel. Loads of vids to watch😂
@@BUSHMANandBLUE yes lol, I'd love to do the cairngorms walks etc i live about an hour away from there . Plenty trails in Scotland west highland way is one id like to try.
Went to local picture framers and had my collie with me, guy in shop says have you heard of bushman and blue? No I hadn’t, but now working my way through your back catalogue and throughly hooked,
Wow I’ve made it to the picture framers!? 😂 I’m glad you’ve found me and welcome👍👍👍
What is it about an open fire that is just so satisfying. Love all your videos etc and Blue is just adorable.
I was brought up with fires every night so I just love them😊
Such a cool video, thanks a lot for creating it.
A simple adventure but I really enjoyed it😬
Very interesting and enjoyable 👍
Talking about old structures, have you ever been to Thornborough Henge nr Ripon.
It's only about 5 thousand years old and you can still see stone covered in limewash or whatever white "paint" they used.
There are three circles set out to mirror the belt of Orion, like the Giza pyramids.
Interesting! I might have to have a look. Thanks buddy 👍👍👍
I would love to visit there, I have traced my family name back to there in the 1600s Thomas Gabriel Branham. Somewhere around Yorkshire West Riding, England, United Kingdom
My mum has fond similar. Always interesting 😬
Your drone skills are amazing!
I try although I have crashed it a couple times😂
Just watched it amazing vid the drone flying was top gun worthy. And the landscape in Autumn was superb fantastic mini adventure 👍😁
😂 if only. I love too gun and the new one is awesome too
@@BUSHMANandBLUE is it i darent watch it cuz i thought it wud ruin it but ill give it a watch now thanks MAVERICK ✈️😆
Superb Al I forgot how good your editing was great video I new you was going to take the drone through those gaps in the tower 😅I said wow 😯 out loud cracking spot to with a fire 🔥 place too
😂 always pushing the limits of my drone skills. Great to show these places off in all their glory though👌
I could listen to your accent all day!
😂😂😂 not many have said that not even my girlfriend 😂
Wow really cool one that AL, I bet that tower is pretty much inaccessible in summer with the bracken, it was high enough still now, it would be tick city in there too 🙈. The tower was class and loved you being able to have a fire, is there any better feeling than sat in front of a fire ☺️.
My old mate blue was class act as always.
Keep em coming pal 🤙
Cheers Si 👊. It was quite a special place having a fire place too. I really enjoyed it especially because it was unexpected staying in there. Saved drying my tent out😂
Watching this while I’m tucked up in bed with my cat. Rather you than me but it’s good fun to watch! 😊
That was a relaxing adventure compared to some of mine. At least I had a fire 😊
As soon as I seen the fire place in the tower I thought please please have a fire , so glad you did 👍
It worked perfectly and was a pleasure to appreciate it fully that evening😊
Great adventure Al, they certainly knew how to build in those days. Watched video in front of a fire with a cuppa tea, sadly no hobnobs.
Easy adventure but into the unknown with the second tower which makes it a proper adventure 😬
i go fishing at Leighton Reservoir , didnt know that tower was there ...thanks for sharing ...cuddle for Blue
Yes it is a fishing reservoir. Great place to relax and fish👌
I do every timed❤❤
Hi Al and the beautiful Blue. That was an amazing find. Fire was awesome too. Love going with you on this one and Thankyou both. Stay safe😊😊😊😊 how did you find your way back to the car
One of my favourites 😬
I love this episode….
Thanks Tracy 😊
You flew that drone like rhe red Baron through that tower 😆
😂 I’m getting better😬
