this brings back memories from my younger days, yet makes them feel almost beautiful simultaneously. their early work kind of opened my mind to what music could be shared and expressed from us, while also just helping me to connect, becoming more comfortable and in tune with it and in a way, everything else..kind of the opposite of narcissism really..to each their own, friend.
I love how they can take something so mechanical and make it so beautiful and emotional. At around 3 minutes is one of the most gorgeous things I have ever heard.
*I've been listening to this song for years now, and have only just seen this. It made me realize: Why waste loads of money and time on a horrible commercial music video for a wretchedly vapid song product, when you can simply write a beautiful melody and just do this. Thanks for reminding me what it is to be quality.
This is a song I hold in my heart above all others. Like on old and trusted friend or a good shrink. No matter how bad my mood is or how bad things seem to be, in this song I can always find much needed catharsis.
Ill never forget seeing this live in Minneapolis, I was completly dumbstruck or in awe when it was finished just kinda stood there paralized. You know the whole transcendint music expeariance.
never dissapointed by Blixa and company. I listened for years before understanding any of it. ESN has provided me with artistic succor for the past 25 years. I extend a heartfelt thanks.
I agree greedy, and it's nice to see that people appreciate this amazing stuff, having just asked someone to lengthen the track for purposes of meditational dance, only to be rebuffed with "You cannot be serious" and the assertion that one listen alone can damage a person............Yikes.........I could move to this for hours in a Zen trance..............
This man is beautiful, and I don't say that as some little groupie fan girl. It's just simple, he's beauitful. He inspires me, totally. And I love when the strings first come in. It's enough to make one cry.
Nlixa Bargeld wonderfull master in expressing thoughts and/or moods makes a dialoge with music/rythm in his own approach always very appreciated by me no thinkpaths preprojected view/sight/... (to ...).
I thought it was boring for the first 2 and a half minuites, then when he starts moving his hands and the "strings?" come in (maybe it's crystal glasses?) I see how he feels the music and means what he says. I was captured and swaying. Innovative, intelligent, simple, effective.
i love this song.. he's like a puppet with invisible ''chords''.. loose yourself in sadness and find you in the garden.. the secret place that loose your sences and become real.. this sound- scream at 5:05 its irresistable...
i like it's lack of content. for me, and i've been known to find strange things lovely, it makes the simple words, the simple melody, and the sounds that more more melancholy. And then when the strings come in... that's dramatic. And the flow of words then, as well. It's a good use of extremes there.
It reminds me of Curt Weil and Bertolt Brecht's songs, so I wonder whether they were an influence on Einstuerzende Neubaten? It feels somewhat like Weimar-era cabaret song, especially if it was played on a piano and string accompiament.
Curiously, "the Garden" is the only Einstüerzende Neubauten song I really like, I'm usually not a fan of minimalism, but he really makes it work here, great work... He should make some more of this kind...
I think you're right. Because if I do recall, in the liner notes for "Ende Neu" (the album in which this track appears on) Blixa recounts the idea and concept behind each song.
+Nyu Atreides I'm not sure, but the only thing leading me to Lucifer's lament is this line: You will find me by the banks of all four rivers. Four rivers in Dante's inferno. I know you asked this 8 months ago, but I hope you' re still interested in this.
I think this is Blixa's The Carny, both deal with sorrow. Nick Cave has the horse buried down but it rises again because of the constant rain (obvious tear metaphor) and we have the rain in this too. Someone has left Blixa, but could find him again if she wishes to, unless it is raining of course then he won't be anywhere to be seen. The scream of course is there for the pain, and the music progresses very slowly forward, he is dealing with it but it doesn't exactly go in a fast pace. Rorschach?
That's because most of the music being promoted as Industrial today are actually EBM, TBM, Power-Noise and such genres. Old-School industrial wasn't always danceable

one of the best songs ever, so pure, so perfect, so powerful........
I love how they can take something so mechanical and make it so beautiful and emotional. At around 3 minutes is one of the most gorgeous things I have ever heard.

One of my all time favourites by the Neubauten. The video, music and lyrics simply work together in such a congenial way!
Thank god someone finally posted this I had heard this song long ago and could not remeber the name of the artist.
kann steelenser nur recht geben es ist einfach einzigartig und fantastisch..es hat bisher nie ein lied gegeben welches diesem nahe kommt..
This is a song I hold in my heart above all others. Like on old and trusted friend or a good shrink. No matter how bad my mood is or how bad things seem to be, in this song I can always find much needed catharsis.
Very beautiful indeed. I've listened to it over and over without getting the least tired of it. :D
Haven't heard this in years and I still love it Blixa you are the man!
Ill never forget seeing this live in Minneapolis, I was completly dumbstruck or in awe when it was finished just kinda stood there paralized. You know the whole transcendint music expeariance.
Love the song, love the album. This song does explain my main pastime.
59 people will not be invited to the garden. I love this song! x
Die Neubauten. Genial wie immer. Danke für's Raufladen! :)
One of my favorite EN tracks, for sure!
never dissapointed by Blixa and company. I listened for years before understanding any of it. ESN has provided me with artistic succor for the past 25 years. I extend a heartfelt thanks.
"You may think that's his narcissism... I'm sure that's his sadness." brilliant
This is indescribably beautiful thing... It takes me somewhere very far... I agree with AnitaGort.
die einstürzenden neubauten sind und bleiben einfach eine der besten bands überhaupt. vielen dank blixa :-)
Facinante!! Delirante!! algunas veces me aterra pero me encanta la musica de Einstuerzende!!

wonderfull master in expressing thoughts and/or moods

"You may think that's his narcissism... I'm sure that's his sadness."
and i'm sure it's something else...
nice! one of my favorite Neubauten songs ever.
i love this song.. he's like a puppet with invisible ''chords''.. loose yourself in sadness and find you in the garden.. the secret place that loose your sences and become real.. this sound- scream at 5:05 its irresistable...
simply amazing!
what a depressive and deep song!
it cuts your nerve into small pieces...

This and zns and halber mensch are my most fav neubauten songs
they are so beautiful
I like the part where he sings "You can find me if you want me in the garden unless it's pouring down with rain."
This one and Sabrina are just totally awesome to me! long live "The Freaks"!
That was beautiful. That was "terribly lovely" as well.
He likes Beus? :-)
Great! Großartig!
Yeah I keep watching this for some reason and hearing it in my head.
Genius. Blixa does have his moments, doesn't he? This is outstanding...
Lovely! coming to sweden now in Novembre!! SWWWEEEEET!!
such a beautiful song
Unbeschreiblich gut...
Genius of simplicity

oh. pure stillness and anyway so much work beyond.
I like this, it's so earnest. honest, even. A good homage.
Error 404 : couldn't find "Blixa" in "/Garden"
Retry (Y/N) ? _
look for him at the spring of consciousness
That is some amazing video editing.
It's from Ende Neu, released in 1996. It was their last record with FM Einheit.
Excellent, love it!!
Beautiful.
More music videos should be like this. He says so much with just a few simple gestures.
Curiously, "the Garden" is the only Einstüerzende Neubauten song I really like, I'm usually not a fan of minimalism, but he really makes it work here, great work... He should make some more of this kind...

People who dig songs like this probably love the Legendary Pink Dots/Tear Garden.
Just ever so slightly amazing
@ecclesiasticous Word! I'm with you on that one, I'm sick and tired of those people. Won't say more, 'cos you said most of it already. Nicely put =)
Art.
This is ART !
Despite this being a very simple song, its probably one of the most lovely I've ever heard. o_o
Haha,indeed...I would certainly fly to Athens to see them...amazing band,typissa...
I love your description
I cannot find out where he can be found... I've already been searching in the garage!
Never heard this band before... me like!!!!
The album is apparently called "Ende Neu" according to another video of this song.
Great deep song.
He is Mr. Perfect
all what this band produces is deeply profound, Møller Denmark
o my god this is art human art of voice i love blixa
this is an amazing song.
Fantastic!
@jamesusillXD
"Ende Neu" is the title of the album
Balagan,dzieki za tto
Look at his hands! He's conducting. I agree with you, Ende Neu is Fantastic!
thanks for telling me about this song.
i love it! =p
Amazing, great, Neubauten!
awesome. just got the album this is on. it rules.
Magnificence in simplicity
Trust me it isn't narcissism or sadness. It's Lucifer's lament. Now listen to the song with that in your ears.
Jason Williams could you explain this further or provide additional resources on the Lucifer's lament. I'm rather curious.
+Jason Williams I can't believe I didn't work this out for myself. Thank you!
+Nyu Atreides I'm not sure, but the only thing leading me to Lucifer's lament is this line: You will find me by the banks of all four rivers. Four rivers in Dante's inferno.
I know you asked this 8 months ago, but I hope you' re still interested in this.
+Jason Williams I agree that was the worst POS I ever skipped through..it was unlistenable
The four rivers in the Garden of Eden
Love it! Love the video also.
I think he means Part's "Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten," which makes similar use of overlapping, descending scales at different tempi.
great song
Have you seen the video for z.n.s ? it's my favourite.
If you like Circus Contraption the Tiger Lillies are also fabulous to add to that list.

auf doppelter Geschwindigkeit schauen und hören is real fun!
Descojonante comentario, Maite. Me explotaron los colgantes.
you´right this is great!!!!!!
Of course I want to meet you:-) But tell me when and in which garden;-)
He's always screaming. He loves screaming. And nobody does it like he does ! ;-)
Incredible.
That's because most of the music being promoted as Industrial today are actually EBM, TBM, Power-Noise and such genres. Old-School industrial wasn't always danceable
such a beautiful, simple song. so amazing.
but what album is this on?
Very strange band... I thought I dislike them but after this song I'm not sure about it :) Blixa is so interesting here))) extremely original)))
The book is called "Being There" by Jerzy Kosinski
No saw them twice over the pond in 1982 I recall
Pewnych rzeczy nie da się wyrazić lepiej...
This is wonderfull.
