If I'm not wrong, Starker's footage is from his legendary 1988 Tokyo recital. He also played Bach 3 and the Kodály sonata. The whole recital is insane. A true monument to cello playing. I regard Starker as the greatest technician of the modern cello. He always dealt with minute technical issues in his master classes and was so helpful. I think the fact he was able to play with ease virtuoso passages even at an old age is prove of how "healthy" his technique was. I can't wait for the female pioneers' video!
I've been waiting for this follow-up video! It's so satisfying, too. I absolutely love the cello, the artists presented here, the music, and the performances. Thank you so much for putting this together! You are a good man, and your efforts are sincerely appreciated!!
Another great one that you didn’t mention is Miklós Perényi. His recording of the Arpeggione Sonata with Andras Schiff is the most beautiful rendition I’ve ever heard. And of course it’s not just that piece!
Amei! Excelente vídeo ! Dessa geração na minha humilde opinião Truls Mork é o melhor, o concerto tocado por ele de Haydn e Dvorak são os mais lindos que eu já escutei!
Yes! I lived first in São Paulo from 2015-2018. Then from 2020 until 2022 in Vitória, and now I am thinking to come back. Right now I am in Brazil! E obviamente eu falo Português!
Yes!, you have Truls Mork - The Best
Absolutely! In fact, he is one of my biggest heroes!
Steven Isserlis is one of my favorite cellists. Glad you mentioned him too✨ .
I just love these series. Thank you so much for making them. We need more education! Can’t wait for the next one!
Thanks for this. My Cello education has been enhanced

Starker was of a generation older than those mentioned in this clip. His reputation was on part with Piatiagorsky and Leonard Rose.
Great video!
Please, tutorial for fast string crossing. Con y sin ligadura. (How much are the fingers, wrist and elbow involved?) Gracias!

Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching! And remember, this is a series, so there will be more episodes like that!

Thank you for this history 🙏
You've never changed to make useful videos! ❤
Huge thanks for you sir!
and I do love your cello old and new !
You are welcome! Thank you for watching!
WoW! Truls Mørk!
For me the best of this list. And maybe one of the greatest of all times. His sound is supernatural 🙏🏻
Thanks Llia. That’s a great insight into how other brilliant cellists leave their mark on music. Can’t wait for the next one 😊😊
Great video Ilia! Waiting for the next one already!
Yes, Antonio Menese is the only Brazilian to win the Tchaikovsky competition! I really like the cellist Susanne Beer, have you met her?
Hell yea Lynn Harrell. You should have chosen footage from his Kol Nidrei Papal concert, one of my favorite youtube videos ever
What piece is Anner Bylsma playing in that clip of him?
Hi! The piece is from Cello Suite No. 1 by Bach. It’s the Courante from that Cello Suite.
Amei!
Starker's song made me laugh :)
Well yeah, quite unexpected 😂
I saw a video of Hauser making fun of Yoyo Ma and other well known cellists - hilarious 😂!!
That video was indeed hilarious! Very old video, but iconic 😂
Did you live in Brazil?? Where??
Yes! I lived first in São Paulo from 2015-2018. Then from 2020 until 2022 in Vitória, and now I am thinking to come back. Right now I am in Brazil! E obviamente eu falo Português!
And Jacqueline du pre?
You did not watch the whole video. Ai ai ai! 😂
BEST ONE: Starker. Could mKe the cello sound like a JazzPianotrio...!
Aaah, Jacqueline and Janos....
Hienrich Schiff, I guess Rostropovich would have been too old. Leonard Rose, what about Maisky? Greenhouse? Paul Katz?
