    As an adult beginner (but experienced pianist/flutist) I cannot thank you enough for your channel, playing demonstrations and tips. You are my number 1 destination for everything cello related, including your brilliant 2 octave scales, bow tips, posture tutorials and a long list of other hands-on tutorials which are a perfect balance between instruction and actual playing demonstration. There are other beginner and intermediate cello channels but yours is hands down the best. Your FREE videos are amazingly generous and incredibly useful. Again, my grateful thanks! Oh, and your playing is so musical and absorbing.

    Well done, dear Ilia. What I think is the greatest benefit for starting playing cello as a child, is that you automaticly get to know the great repertoire. As an adult light intermediate, this is becoming the next hurdle for me.

    I LOVED your list! Please, do a list of orchestral cello solos next time (i.e. Brahms piano concerto nº 2, mov 2, Enigma variations, William Tell ouverture, etc). It'd be so interesting coming from you.
    BTW, another allegedly "student" concerto that I love is Kabalevsky's nº1 in G minor. I often think of it as the "Russian Saint Saëns concerto".

    Really enjoyed your list Ilia...thank you for this, and your superb playing. As a cellist I grew up assuming that Max Bruch was Jewish until I learnt in later years that 'The success of Kol Nidrei led to an assumption by many that Bruch was of Jewish ancestry, although Bruch denied this and there is no evidence that he was Jewish. As far as can be ascertained, none of his ancestors were Jews. Bruch was given the middle name Christian, and was raised Protestant.' I'm sure you knew this but it may be of interest to others. Thanks again. Bravo...

    Loved your list and agree that these are some of the best works for cello out there. I was surprised there was something on the list I wasn't familiar with! Started playing cello in 1995 and have continued since but I am not familiar with Fratres or any of their works! I'll have to check that out. If I could add to your list, I would say Élégie by Fauré. For me this is a piece that expresses an emotion of deep sorrow and pain that I just cannot verbalize but I think every single person has felt.

  • @LABUDA-ART
    @LABUDA-ART 11 місяців тому

    short question, perhaps not the right place here. How important is it to play always the same bowing in a piece, me I cannot remember the bowings at all and if I follow the bowings of my teacher correctly I do not make music, I play like a robot (Cello Suites). I play most pieces freely and never have problems and have enough space on my bow, but always play different bowings for one piece of music.

    • @terryjones573
      @terryjones573 3 місяці тому

      It is not at all insignificant. The mechanics of the bow makes the character of an up bow different than that of the down bow. Rarely are there cases where it MUST be one over the other, but you should be aware of and make account for the different characteristics in your interpretation of a piece. And if your interpretation changes at every performances I would take it as a challenge to learn a bowing and stick to it.
