Dude, I want you to know. This is an incredible tutorial. For me what makes it so good is the multiple angles of you flipping the board in slow motion. It really helps me visualize how it would look as I’m doing it. You explain it really well too. 💯 Thanks!
Hey your tips actually help a lot. One slight upgrade would be to write the name of the trick on the takeaway slide. That way viewers can screenshot them and use the pic as a help while practice
yo i know im late to this video but landed my first hardflip today bc of this. the back foot placement was my problem. thanks man this video helped so much!!
Hi Tom ! Could you also make aa tutorial for the hardflips evil twin (inward heel) ? That would be much appreciated ! And thanks for all the great material you give the community, you're the best teacher out there
Thanks! You still want to scoop in the direction you would for a frontside shuvit, but on this trick specifically your front foot also helps guide the rotation, so the way you flick will help your board rotate.
I think you have a nice hard flip. They often appear to be shove-its, but I can see the flip with yours. It should look just like a 180 kickflip if you were to reverse your stance. I used to ask if ppl could tell if I had done a hard flip, but they couldn't bc I couldn't make that front side shove it part work.
Awesome tutorial. Definitely got a couple of good pointers that I'm going to try. Would be super if you could do a fs bigspin tutorial. I can do them switch, but not regular. Main problem being the timing of scoop and turning fs, like when I focus on the scoop my shoulders get stuck on 90 and when I focus on the fs 180 my scoop/pop is not enough.
Thank you! I gotta do a fs bigspin tutorial at some point. Love that trick. I'm the opposite though, switch is way harder for me. I think it comes down to the scoop. I really put my toe in that back pocket, scoop fast as I'm popping, and push my board out in front of me. I'd say hang onto that the most, use your back foot to push your board forward, and lean slightly back. I hope that helps for now!
Great tutorial, I’m so close to landing them! I can either land with my front or back foot but have problems to committing to both, anyone have any tips?
I’m super close to fs flips and I’ve been trying hard flips and you’re right it helps so much I can’t believe it took me so long to understand those tricks my brain has always had issues with them and it’s always bothered me that I couldn’t do them. Hopefully I’ll have them in the next few days. I noticed with my fs flips I can get my back foot on consistently but my front foot always lands on the bolts do you have any tips for fs flips and hard flips?
This is driving me crazy now, still can't land it!!! Can land an inward heel but this is killing me!!! Are you looking down Asif it is a front pop shuv ?? Any more info would be a massive help
Don't worry, there's reason it's called a hardflip. 💀 I do look down toward my front foot, yes. Have you tried experimenting with your weight distribution between each foot? If you're putting too much weight on either side of the board/either foot, it can really throw things off with this trick. Try playing around with it if you haven't yet!
Nice video. It’s my dream to land a hardflip, such a nice looking trick. But I’m worried it’s too late now (mid 30’s)! Does it help to try and jump as high as possible as well? And what tricks would you recommend learning first, I have kickflips down really comfortably but struggle with frontside shove it.
Thank you!! Hardflip was definitely hard to learn but the moment you figure it out it becomes easy. If you’re in good shape it’s never too late! In regards to tricks to learn next, I would keep working on frontside shuvits. (I have a tutorial on my channel!) And depending on what you know, maybe try doing fakie kickflips or half cab kickflips next? You could also try heelflips, backside flips, varial flips, tre flips, etc. It always helps too to perfect the foundational tricks, which will make learning the harder tricks easier as you progress.
@@toms_tutorials Thanks. Just checked out that tutorial, think it’s gonna help me once my injury’s healed! I’ve got varial kickflips, tre flips, and heelflips down well but find anything where the board moves frontside much harder. I’ll keep trying. You’re a great skater and teacher 🤙
@@samjefferis5775 That's awesome you have those backside tricks down so well. It's normal to feel more comfortable doing either FS or BS tricks so don't think you're the only one. It may help to try different placements with your back foot since your back foot is what most affects the scoop. Hope that helps! Thanks so much for the awesome compliments 🙏
Hi Tom I've been skating for along time and still can't land this trick, I can land most tricks consistently, so am no rookie, but this has me stumped, I think I may be looking too forward, where are your eyes looking? Right of front foot? Same as fs shuvit? Great vid cheers 👍
I feel the struggle, this trick was super hard for me to initially learn too. When I do them I do look to the right of the front foot, toward the front right edge of the nose. I notice though that with fs shuvits I don't look as far up on my board. Hope this helps! If you have any more issues with it let me know 🙌
@@toms_tutorials will see how it goes this week, do you have a frontside flip tutorial out too? Thanks again for the time and effort you've put into your videos 👍
Bro I thought I was the ONLY ONE! I used to be able to kick flip like BUTTER. But once I discovered hard flips, every time I try to kick flip, it pops like hard flip ALWAYS now 🤣
Love your video's, they helped me a lot. But there's just something with hardflips that doesn't go. I always just do a regular kickflip .it never does the shuv it rotation. Any tips to fix this? Much love💪
Thanks a lot! Have you tried flicking upward and out more than you would for a kickflip? With this trick, the front foot plays a part in rotating the board (unlike other tricks), so try adjusting it as needed. Hope that helps!
@@toms_tutorials All the details are so helpful. It makes me wonder if you have another job that is fairly technical. I really like when you lay out the variables that can be adjusted until it works for you, like this. That reminds me of troubleshooting electronics. That dude Gifted Hater has a video where he goes off on UA-cam skate teachers, some of it is fair, but yours are more articulate and detailed than just about anyone else I've seen and I think they're great. Thanks!
Fucking mind blowing with the back foot position. Literally just popped it knee high and perfect flip. I've been trying this trick for so long with no success! thank you! Now, lets go the other direction and get the Inward Heel Trick tip!!!
What is the level of difficulty doing this, heel flips, and kick flips on an 8.5. That’s my standard size board. But maybe I should drop down but with size 11.5-12 shoes if feels like riding a fuckin toothpick if I ride anything skinnier. Please let me know your thoughts since you’re tall as well. I’m 6’2”
I’ve noticed that I’m trying to catch my board with my front foot facing straight instead of sideways because of my shoulders being turned for the flick. Any tips on how to break this bad habit?
Try watching the motion of my front foot in this video and imitating that. After you pop you almost have to turn back so you're parallel with your board when you catch it.
You're not putting your front foot too far up are you? Also, did you try placing your back foot more on the edge like I explained in the video? It may help too to try flicking more out and *up*. If your foot doesn't go up at all it may not give your board as much room to rotate. Let me know if this helps!
This is one of the best hard flip tutorials I’ve seen for sure, hoping to have these down soon
Thanks so much! Hope you get them down! 💪
Yoo, you got em yet?
@@chriztafah I can do them when I really try. I used to be really good at them but lost them. Now they’re a hit or miss
Hands down best skate tutorials on UA-cam
What a compliment! Thanks so much!! 🙏
Great tips ! Yes bending down with balance in a complete motion with momentum helps with every trick !
The back foot part really helped me get these, glad you pointed that out, got ‘em regular and Fakie now. Thanks!

Try practicing the motions individually and then jump

What helped me understand hardflips fast was learning frontside flips first, its the exact same motion except you dont turn your shoulders to go fakie
