Love this bike! I use a 2005 DRZ400SM for daily commuting for 10 years now. I own multiple bikes but I'm quickest by far on my DRZ through traffic. Every commute awakes the playing kid in me (at 50 years old 😇) Ohw, and I must mention that it never broke down. New one seems to be a bit heavy and low on power, but guess that an airbox mod, removal of the catalytic converter, and another mapping will bring it on par with the previous model.
Looks like a pipe and some air box mods etc should liven up the drz and lighten it up too. 6 speed would have been great but I guess if it’s still cheap we’ll let them get away with it.
I don't really miss a sixt gear. I rarely exceed 100 km/h or 63 mph, which is totally fine in 5th gear. It does 90 mph flat out on the highway, but apart from torturing the engine, it is too light for those speeds and becomes unstable in the wind, That's why I have other bikes for highway use.
I may have missed it, but did you mention that it still uses a 5 speed gearbox? It's a fairly significant detail that will a disappointment to many if it means that the engine will revving quite high a motorway speeds.
I am hoping the gears are spaced more appropriately to not, necessarily, need a 6th gear for bikes like these. Most probably a sixth gear was not included to keep the costs down, and they compromised by spacing the gear ratios instead. I had the last SM model, and on the highway, all it needed was a taller 5th gear, not necessarily a sixth gear. Remember, these bikes are not intended for long distance performance on motorways. Motorways are doable, but at a slower pace. Otherwise get a Transalp, T7, or similar.
@thevtadventure1062 there idea of wide ratio isn't what we view as wide ratio. The sm may be OK if its geared taller anyway because it won't see any off road.
Like the look of the SM. Couldn't care less about the tech or lack of it. If the price is right, it could be a really fun option. Also lots to mod as well for a few more bhp & a few less KG's which you should really notice.
I'm hoping it has an ECU that will be easily unlocked and tuneable by the best tuners in the biz. First thing i'll do is get a full system to eliminate that cat and open it up and see if any intake mods help it.
@ganuvien Pretty sure it'll be simple enough to flash almost right away with comparatively big gains as its going to be heavily restricted. Full systems will also be out soon enough, add an filter too & it'll go very well. I'd probably get a lithium battery as well to get rid of a couple more KG's.
@@ragerider6283 Yeah definitely looking forward to what the aftermarket can do for these bikes but torn if I'll get the Supermoto or Enduro because I might want to do some light offroading on fire roads, etc for exploring but nothing too crazy offroad. Still, I think they missed a bid opportunity by not giving it a six speed transmission and a bump to 450cc to elevate it from the last generation. It's not enough to make me want to trade up from my current drz, really don't care about ride modes for a dualsport.
@@motojc They updated the clutch, and the gear ratios. No 6 speed, but I had a DR650 with 5 speed and it cruised 75-80 no problem and hit 100mph. As a major DRZ Fanboy, they missed the mark by a long way. They have had 25 years to figure this out. Less power, heavier, taller same exact gearing we have been complaining about for 25 years. Mind boggling to me. The number 1 and 2 complaints were not addressed. #1 comaint is gearing.....not fixed. #2 complaint was weight...not addressed. #3 complaint is the seat....that remains to be seen. For now, me and everyone i know says they perfer the older version over this new failure. Yes the few things they did are good, they didnt change what everyone has been complaining about. So its 100% clear that Suzuki does not listen to their customers at all. IMO, major fail. When my 2011 gets to 100,000 miles soon, it will just get another engine. 55,000 miles now, runs and looks better than new or this new one too.
@@drzrider3440 this is exactly why I left for Ktm/husky and never looked back. 28k on my FE501 and it does everything better. Suzuki is 24 years and a few hundred million dollars in R&D behind.

It will never be like the old DRZ400, euro 5 has killed the bike you would need this bike around 500cc to be a better bike, or be prepared to spend £2k-£3k on “opening” it up and getting past euro 5, not only for better throttle response but better performance and engine cooling..hence why I accept the weight of my tenere 700 because even stock it’s a beast!!! But it too will get a remap, air box mod cat delete and titanium exhaust but it’s still great stock
My guess is the Suzuki will be priced in the higher $8k range. That’s gonna make it a grand or so less than the Honda 450RL. The Honda will be lighter, more power and has a 6 speed. I’m gonna guess if you are going to spend that much the Honda might be a better value with the more it offers. Also, this is a dual sport. Not an adventure bike. You should be comparing value to like the KLX 300, Honda 300L/450RL, and Husky/KTM 350S-500. That’s the segment it’s in.
With the CF Moto 450 MT and the Himalayan 450 costing around 6.000€ the DRZ400 (one cylinder, five gears), should be priced for less than 6.500€. Otherwise they will not sell one unit.
@@aaronhansen8037 Thanks for the information. CF Moto MT450 is a game changer for 5.900€. If the try to sell the DRZ above $7.200 or 7.000€ they won't find a positive response in the market.
Had DRZ 400S. Sold it and bought a WR250R. Better bike in many ways, except for power. Sure do miss the torque. Looking for a 400-500 cc bike now. Nice to see so many options this year.
It could have been good, it should have been good, but it isn’t. Suzuki made the off road version too tall. It won’t be cheap either. It’s a bike that’s too little, for too much, but I’m sure those who remember the DRZ fondly will buy it.
Owned and enjoyed this bike back in 2006, 1p deposit £4499 to pay. Remember the bike with much affection, sadly Suzuki omitted to fit a saddle with gave you a usable range of 40 miles or 30 minutes. Sadly Suzuki have not learnt and have stuck with a motocross saddle. Makes T7 tenere saddle look like armchair comfort. Triumph 400's/ cfmoto 450mt/ Himalayan all fitted with comfortable saddles. Suzuki you have messed this up, what age is targeted customer a teenager?
Anyway, watching this video, should not think that's how the place actually is. They opened it for content producers a few days before the general public. I attended, and it was overwhelming-thousands of people made it nearly impossible to even take pictures of the bikes. I highly doubt that those UA-camrs were there either yesterday or today. The venue was packed with teenagers and indifferent parents allowing their kids to sit on the bikes. Overall, it was a complete disaster. Never again!
I bought a drz400sm in 2010, rode it maybe a half mile down the road and turned around and put it up for sale. The most pig of a bike I've ever ridden in my life, replaced it with a KTM 625smc that I absolutely adored. I'm appalled to see that they fixed absolutely nothing that made this bike so bad to begin with. It's now even heavier while making the same power and still has a 5 speed. All they needed to do was make it FI with a 6 speed and give it a few more cc's and they couldn't even do that. What an absolute joke. If you're considering buying one of these you should seriously consider getting your testosterone checked.

@tigerrider6711 yep. Nice to hear you got that much out of the huksy. I am at 55,000 miles on my 2012 DRZ400 with zero issues that left me stranded. Runs and looks better than new. Just blows me away when a company doesnt listen to its customers like the whole KTM/Husky/Gasgas team does.
If I'm not mistaken IRC is like Indonesian brand of tires
It will never be like the old DRZ400, euro 5 has killed the bike you would need this bike around 500cc to be a better bike, or be prepared to spend £2k-£3k on “opening” it up and getting past euro 5, not only for better throttle response but better performance and engine cooling..hence why I accept the weight of my tenere 700 because even stock it’s a beast!!! But it too will get a remap, air box mod cat delete and titanium exhaust but it’s still great stock
These woman need proper riding boots.
ATGAT 😅
Those boots are all they need to ride me!
@ 🎯😂
So, hows the food?
how come didn't mention old 5sp tranny?
What kind of performance with 37hp! Seriously lol
You're allowed to say zed.
All they had to do was make it a 6-speed. Maybe any upgrade in a few years.
why nobody mentions how many gears, why?............
Because it does not matter. They changed the gear ratio. Ride it before you complain.
Still 5 speed, but revised ratios. I think they addressed the gearing issue, despite not adding another gear.
IRC tires60/40 are better than that Dunlop tire.
The current DR-Z is over $7k in the states. I’m expecting The new release to be more.
@@aaronhansen8037 Thanks for the information. CF Moto MT450 is a game changer for 5.900€. If the try to sell the DRZ above $7.200 or 7.000€ they won't find a positive response in the market.
price 10k?
7-8k?
My local Suzuki dealer thinks it might be as low as 6k.
@@robshaw2319too good to be true but let's hope so
Shouldn't be much more than a CRF300L or KLX300. If they could make a KLX400 with a 6 speed we wouldn't even need this.
@@robshaw2319 that would be wild, will kill all competition!
😊
Had DRZ 400S. Sold it and bought a WR250R. Better bike in many ways, except for power. Sure do miss the torque. Looking for a 400-500 cc bike now. Nice to see so many options this year.
Single cyl with 2 spark plugs😮
Bmw did this decades ago with their 650 singles.
@paulbester9516 im guessing firing order is still the same just with 2 spark plugs?
@@jimmydishkawnt yeah it just has two plugs for a cleaner burn and combustion. All emissions stuff. Btw the rotax powered bmw is G a Y
@@jimmydishkawntIt’s a thumper, there is no firing order.
Can we all agree the bikes have great legs….
Laughs in pumper carb
It could have been good, it should have been good, but it isn’t. Suzuki made the off road version too tall. It won’t be cheap either. It’s a bike that’s too little, for too much, but I’m sure those who remember the DRZ fondly will buy it.
Too tall? That’s about low for an offroad bike. Usually they are 950+ mm.
Good to see Suzuki have remained heterosexual and havent gone woke, by keeping the dolly birds at their stand.
There was some wally on another channel that was complaining about them.
The rumor of 8-9000 euros in Europe is a joke. It will never sell....
Vibration is damped
Water is dampened
No 6 speed gearbox BOoooo
How does this still have a 5 speed transmission 🤦♂
We got a new DRZ before GTA 6
Owned and enjoyed this bike back in 2006, 1p deposit £4499 to pay.
Remember the bike with much affection, sadly Suzuki omitted to fit a saddle with gave you a usable range of 40 miles or 30 minutes.
Sadly Suzuki have not learnt and have stuck with a motocross saddle. Makes T7 tenere saddle look like armchair comfort.
Triumph 400's/ cfmoto 450mt/ Himalayan all fitted with comfortable saddles.
Suzuki you have messed this up, what age is targeted customer a teenager?
5 gears? No thanks, I prefer bikes with 6 gears
All new, fuel injected engine, but still only 5 speeds? You gotta be kidding me, Suzuki!
They changed the ratios. We will see how well they did. I think they knew it was an issue and didn't totally ignore it.
Heavier and no 6th gear? Looks like a losing here
Anyway, watching this video, should not think that's how the place actually is.
Pipe looks too exposed in front of the engine.
That'll be in the nearest skip,to any serious offroad rider
The kerb weight is high, but then still just a bit too low to be European A2 licence compliant.
Wrong, it is A2 compliant. At the stated curb weight it could be 30.2kW.
Too many worthless features to make dumb, and lazy riders.
How the hell is 151kg “impressive”? You’re putting on “shill” vibes. It’s down on power, it’s heavier, it’ll run leaner, the suspension and looks are the only good points.🙄
With all these changes, it'll be a problematic mess, and still no 6th gear.
AAARRRGGG bob, it is ZED, never a zee, it is English, We can't help it if some countries can't say it proper like, I mean its a Zebra not a Zeeebra 😅
920 mm
Yeah, I love it.
It has less power and torque than the Triumph 400 speed?!!
Anyone else feel these are about 5 years too late?
No.
They are 10 years too late actually.
The models must have been struggling to change gears in those stilettos
