Sometimes dialogue is straightforward. Other times it's so annoyingly vague that you wind up offending or threatening NPCs by accident. I'd like to see 7 dialogue options that were needlessly aggressive.

'Ukulele of Penance' sounds like something you would find in a Dark Souls game
or a youtube apology video from a groomer
...it really doesn't. Baldur's Gate or Elder Scrolls, sure, but not SoulsBorne stuff.
There's a ukulele in the Risk of Rain games...
Could be the weapon of a dark bard.
@@totz_the_plaid9625 You can kill people with a bubble trumpet in elden ring but a edgy ukelele is too far?
Arthur Morgan sounds like every criminal whose neighbours are interviewed ever : "I would never have expected that, he was always so polite"
True sociopaths are usually people GOOd at pretending to be non-evil.
I loved the fishing bit in RDR2. I like to imagine he was eulogized thusly:
"Here lies Arthur Morgan. Some may call him a murdering bastard and a bank robber, but he was also a prolific catch-and-release fisherman. For that, he will live forever in our hearts."
“Say what you will about John Wayne gacy, but he wore a clown suits and clowns are funny so at least he entertained children”
You know, the amount of times I've heard 'he was such a nice, young man, always saying "hello" to his neighbours' in a newsreel about a criminal suddenly makes sense!
@@sebastianwlodarczyk oh yeah I totally forgot about that. They do that anytime a black person is killed or kills someone
@@goldenfiberwheat238 Never heard this argument that specific- to be fair, each time I've heard it, it was about a white person (that's the dominant group of people living where I do).
So, not sure what your point is.

Played red dead online with friends for a while, we were evil as fuck. But had perfectly honourable reputations because we took such good care of our horses.
Nobody seriously blew up Megaton once they found out that the Tenpenny Suite was behind three loading screens and a mandatory conversation every single time you wanted to go there.
Best argument I've heard for saving Megaton.
And it's a smaller apartment and tenpenny is filled with awful people and you lose access to an entire town and it's vendors. Really no reason to blow up megaton imo other than kicks
Any terrible deed can be undone by walking through town and saying hi to everyone for a few minutes
But, that requires walking. And talking. And being around people. Outside.
Can't we just stay inside, locked away from everyone else forever, & say we're good?

He could've weaved some sails & made his way peacefully to Tahiti (where they didn't accept dollars anyway) rather than trying to talk to people for honor!
Oh no not the ukulele apology
Lololol had me rolling😂
Toxic gossip traiiiiiiin
Well that save me trying to come up with some clever comment.
so... andy steve martin playing among us on this channel...
"I like hiking, but only if there's a pub lunch at the end" yo Jane don't call me out like that.
everyone knows the best thing about a long hike is eating all the food at the end. chimichangas after a mountain summit? yes pls.
Was wondering why Andy wasnt doing the rdr2 one, then realized the mention of bailing out Micah wouldn't have been a short snide comment. It would've been a rant that took up half the video
Even though it's probably not going to happen, I'm still hoping he returns to Morgan Mondays...
half?? pfft...
People give the dancing in Bloodlines a lot of guff, but I think those people just haven't been to enough goth clubs. Dancing animations were spot on!
hahahaha.
Also 'Smaller God' by Darling Violetta remains a banger!
Later that day, Andy disappeared. With no trace or evidence of his departure. And when Ellen was questioned all she did was smile and keep on strumming away. It was never revealed what actually happened, but one thing was clear, he asked too many questions
14:09 *Ellen:* I wonder if that works in real life. I've got a lot to make up for. _~casual ukulele playing~_
*Andy:* Wow, you're... really playing a long time there. What did you do?
*Ellen:* _~ukulele playing intensifies~_
*Andy:* _What did you do?!_
*Ellen:* _~intense playing continues, cannot hide haunted look in eyes~_
That second "WHAT DID YOU DOOO?" got me!
What could Ellen have done? Someone ask Luke.
Why are you all looking at me like that?
Oh? Oh. Oh!
Fable 3 letting you donate to the Treasury to give yourself some good karma is a good one, but I'll raise you fable 2 lowering rent giving you purity.
What could the Devs mean by this?
It's necessary though, as you'll be burning through that purity every time you use a consumable that isn't vegan. Who knew that a strict diet of murder and cheese for a week or so is enough to look like a desiccated vampire?
In kotor 1, on Korriban, you can gain a few lightside point when three Sith officers ganging up on you by telling a joke that is incredibly offensive to Mandalorians. Seriously cracked me up.
Um, yes, because it helps you blend in with them and thereby avoids a violent outcome of the encounter, not because telling the offensive joke as such was a good deed.

0:17 "make up for MissDeeds with good deeds" - I see you Jane, making us work for your wrongdoings :)
I love how Jane and Mike keep finding ways of including VTMB into the channel, I really hope they get the sequel they deserve finally
In RDR2 I got obsessive about greeting everyone I met for the karma. Then I hit Saint Denis with its throngs of people and I got so excited I ran up and down every street greeting everybody for a few minutes before realizing I was acting like a country bumpkin. In other words, the game mechanic tricked me into acting in character.
You won that round, Rockstar.
I have one.
Fallen London has a loophole you can use to reduce Suspicion or Scandal. A challenge will sometimes appear that lets you transfer some of the negative Karma to another player on your friends list - as in, frame another player for your crimes. Why use a friend as a scapegoat? Simple, doing so lets that friend do the same to you! (This is Fallen London, nobody is truly innocent in this game, and there are also a few quests that let you collaborate with friends, compete with them, or send them gifts.) The loophole, however, is a simple one - create a second account, and use that account as the scapegoat. No rule that says you can't do that, and it is a way to reduce both with no real risk to the main account.
Like a kid blaming it on their imaginary friend!
Kinda off topic but I'm reminded of my brother playing evil in Fable and the crowd cheering while he "cheers" in the square but run screaming away right after
In the Metro games, karma isn't what we expect it to be here in the real world. It's Artyom experiencing what gave our human culture meaning before and after the bombs fell. To interact with these instruments isn't to make your cosmic karma better, it's to bring Artyom closer to humanity. That's what the dark ones are looking for in him, that he isn't a monster too
All the time I've spent playing Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines and I didn't know that dancing restored humanity.
I'm sorry, do you mean "Vampire Colon The Masquerade Dash Bloodlines"? 😂
it is supposed to be an easter egg :D
The dancing actually makes sense. They're trying to retain their humanity, not be a good person.
I like Jane's policy on when to take hikes.
If only atonement were this easy for Egbert to have found.
I like to think of RDR2's greeting mechanic as "Old-timey social media".
You get a like for positive remark, negative thumbs down for a bad one. And if you just pull up your mask, you can be a nasty, anonymous troll.
Then ride off into the sunset, leaving a trail of needlessly negative energy.
We've come so far since then.
The mask never did seem to work, no marter what, mask or no mask, i always had bounty hunters after me
9:10 think you got the wrong fallout.
Beat me to it.
FOUR !!!
Was just about to say that
Ellen + Ukulele = Good times. Andy offscreen was the icing on that delicious cake.
That second “what did you DO?!” got me good. Love these videos
9:06 It only took 8 years, but they finally made a single mistake! Amazing, can't believe I was here to witness them calling 3, 4!
Wait, shoot, what's the easiest way to increase my karma from making a sarcastic comment on a youtube video?
.... Liking a comment? Well, guess I'll like my own!
(but fr tho, amazing and hilarious as always. Now back to delving into the past 5 years of OXbox/tra content)

"Penance ukulele" is going into the journal today.
Fun fact: The morality system in the original Metro was so misunderstood, that a majority of players got the bad ending, so the devs made that the canon ending for the sequel.
"Phil Collins Tarzan soundtrack was underrated." *Me, who remembers it absolutely cleaning up awards that year.* You sure about that? 😅
It did get awards, but man, it sure gets easily overshadowed by The Lion King, Mulan, and other contemporaries.
In the real world, being a landlord is a surefire way to LOSE good karma.
"That money was resting in your account for a long time, wasn't it, Ted"
It's interesting because in the Dresden files books the main character Harry does some... things that affect his soul and discovers that learning the guitar is one of the activities that fixes the damage.
In Shadowrun Returns there's a houseless guy who the cops kicked out of the alley he was living in because it's a crime scene, and they won't let him get back in to get his stuff. If you get into the crime scene you can get good karma for grabbing his stuff, which is all well and good, but you don't get good karma for *giving his stuff back*. So you could just take his stuff and leave and according to the game that's the right thing to do.
Oh my god, it's the return of "and away..."!
Yes! The best bit!
Inn real life unsolicited playing of stringed instruments nets you negative karma
Anyway, here's Wonderwall
15:38 The sass on that "whoops" from Jane 🤣👏👏
All I know is, atonement begins with an apology.
No, it begins with "atone"... because that's the spelling...ok, I'll see myself out.
@@TinKnight I was about to go with, "Actually, I think 'atonement' begins with 'a'." But that works too.
Eggbert: OH!
It's not quite the same, but Dwarf Fortress players make similar jokes about how a dwarf's morale is determined. Example from the TV Tropes page:
"Kol Tölunimush has been ecstatic lately. He killed somebody by accident while sparring recently. He took joy in slaughter lately. He has lost a lover to tragedy lately. He has witnessed death. He had a satisfying sparring session recently."
In road 96 there’s a hidden karma mechanic, steal more and you’ll get a lower chance to successfully complete a RNG prompt.
Pay for a $3 fortune at the end of each run to raise it again. And unless your run is money based, you’ll probably do this as there’s not much else to spend your money.
man I think infamous was the first game I played that had a karma system, and I always found it funny how even if you had true goody two shoes karma, if you go selfish and keep the power near the end, you still get the worst karma with black red powers
in my defense... why did they make the evil powers cool? it was so much more fun to play as
I would boost good karma on infamous by just running at NPCs until they briefly fell over, then use pulse heal to 'revive' them even though they were totally fine
Jane's shirt is just ❤!!
Isn't that the whole point?
Ikr! It's so good
9:08 Jane says Fallout 4 but it's Fallout 3
Ellen's referencing Gone Fishing's "And away..." is definitely worth several points on the karma meter, put a big ol' grin on my face it did.
RDR2: Who put quickdraw and select on the triggers? Arthur tries to greet someone: [quickdraw] *_BLAM!_* Arthur tries to diffuse a situation: [quickdraw] *_BLAM!_* Arthur tries to help someone: [quickdraw] *_BLAM!_* Arthur tries to brush a horse: [quickdraw] *_BLAM!_*
Arthur tries to quickdraw on someone [select] “Hello, friend!”
Also get on your horse and grab the closest nearby NPC being the same button. I've tried to hop on my horse in town so many times and instead ended up in a grapple that required me to book it out of town
Mike will never atone for his misdeeds against Miss Deeds.
I remember feeling a bit annoyed with that one choice in Infanous, mainly because they were unnecessarily presenting it as an either/or when there was an obvious middle ground. I can take ALL the food to feed my family or let other people take it all. Why can’t I just take one or two crates to feed my family and leave the rest for the other people?
I mean, in the tabletop rpg Vampire: The Masquerade, you more or less retained humanity after doing heinous stuff by… feeling bad about it
Like in real life, being able to rationalize heinous action is the best way to end up a monster - but of course in Vampire you have... alternative moral systems
The reputation system in Fallout: New Vegas makes equally little sense: the two major factions are perfectly happy to forgive you for nuking them just because you reached the right point in the story.
As a certain Irishman demonstrated thoroughly.
“And away….!” I GET THAT REFERENCE!
In the first Mass Effect there’s a quest with a bugged conversation that allows you to pick either the Paragon or Renegade option repeatedly until you’ve maxed out the meter, or even both if you have enough points in both to have both options available
Releasing fish back into the water.
My mind: "and away..."
Skyrim Fishing callback was sweet, “And away” 🥰 [1:58]
Jane described karma as a "cool concept".
However, i think it was Boy George who described it as a Chameleon.
it comes and gooooooes it comes and gooooooohhhohohoessss
Which is why he thought it was okay to chain up a guy in his basement. It was only camouflaged as bad karma.
Metro and Vampire aren't really about karma: Metro is about proving you're more than a scrabbling, hating beast. It can be rather counterintuitive, as often you feel like you're on a timer, but the game wants you to enjoy this concert to prove to yourself there's still good in the world.
Vampire is all about retaining your humanity and not becoming a monster. While doing good deeds can do this, so can just being a person and dancing with other people.
Tbh as a rural american it is just common decency to greet every person you catch eyes with lol moving to the city was wild for me
hahaha.
If you live in a small community it is weird not to acknowledge and say hello to others. If you live in a large place it is weird if you acknowledge the people around you. 😁
I lived for a bit on what used to be a separate town that later became part of an expanding city and it was interesting to still see the occasional random stranger politely saying good morning when also passing by a dozen other people just minding their business.
I really thought Red Dead was going to be about brushing, feeding, and patting your horse. In Red Dead Online I find it hard to have bad karma even when I’m actively trying to.
That's kinda like with the story. You sorta have to actively be a bad person to get Low Honor. Which was always funny to me when I seen people get the canonically "bad ending" for having low honor then getting upset with how the game ended.
Appreciate the "Gone Fishing" refrence by Ellen.
Could've gotten a bonus point by "doing a Mortimer" and suddenly fallen over😂
RDR2 - Always hit 'em with the "Greet, Greet, Antagonize" 😂
Ah, the ukulele of untold undemption(tm). Classic. Makes a great set with the trumpet of total trustworthiness, the recorder of relationship retention and the piano of positive prospect.
SMT Strange Journey. Before the alignment lock, you can help a goblin dig a hole a bunch and turn your alignment to Law no matter how much Chaotic stuff you got up to.
12:26 seriously underrated? Tarzan's soundtrack got SO MANY AWARDS! It's widely known as being amazing and, according to Wikipedia, "the album was a major comeback for Phil Collins, and put him back in the public eye". South Park even made a full episode to attack Phil Collins because they didn't win an Oscar with their movie's soundtrack! It's not underrated, it's just kind of forgotten after 25 years.
Will I give this video a like?
Certainly, madam. Here you are.
15:38
So she's a vampire. That explains why she hasn't aged a day in the like...long time I've been following this channel.
Not sure if it counts or not, but in Baldur's Gate 3, the newspaper is just absolutely bent on slandering you and making everyone hate you. You can, at one point, get into the basement (with the aid of LOT of invisibility potions and a very high sleight of hand) and replace the headline and article with "The Cutest Cat In The World" and everyone forgets they hated you and stop talking smack about you constantly.
You guys are truly a comfort channel. I cycle through tons of UA-camrs but you guys are a consistent mainstay. Video games are so intertwined childhood, it feels nice to reinvest in it as an adult so it feels a little less superfluous compared to some other hobbies (I say as a collector of hobbies)
15:42 That was no accident Jane...
What happened to Jane? The Jane I remember would have seen collecting serial killer masks as a good thing.
What did Ellen do to need atonement?
Merilwen's Meatgrinder springs to mind.
I love the “Press X” joke in the thumbnail!
You'll need a long ukulele session to atone for the ukulele playing. But then you'd need an even better one for that... are we approaching the Uke Apology Singularity?
The genuine joy of Ellen saying "and away". 😁👌
Been watching your clips for years. Keep up the great work. Love from Australia
Go to bed Aussie cuz/friend 😅 Ellen and Jon will still have this for you to watch at a more reasonable time for you
@oxfanblink4115 Not bedtime! Time to start the day. Have a good one!
Outside Xbox and outside Xtra, your 7 videos have always been a source of happiness and relaxation for me. Whenever I feel down and anxious I look forward to your next 7 list video. Your videos' pace and uplifting tone always cheers me up. Thank you.
So happy to see the Oxventure uke featured in another video, though I guess it’s the ‘Penance ukulele’ now, lol
In inFAMOUS 2 there's an entire side mission that's just hearing what someone has to say. She explains her mother was in the first game's city and either lived or starved based on your current karma then walks away after either kissing or slapping you.
Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 also let you gain karma (reputation) by donating to temples. Other way was easier though, just by having certain people in your party your rep would go down. Sword Coast was even less tolerant before BG3...
The 'good v bad' karma from being a landlord is 1:1 regardless of financial impact, so removing rent from low income houses while jacking up prices on businesses (which usually have the highest returns), you get good karma, while getting the most money.
The ukulele was either the worst or best choice to make for that joke.
This is your annual reminder that VTM exists
Every time we're reminded of VTM, someone watching starts a new playthrough. It's just a universal law of the internet.
If that person is reading this: try the Sabbat faction added by the Clan Quest Mod. It's seriously impressive.
Holy cow - all this time all Egbert needed to do was borrow Dob's lute for an hour!
Landlords are infamously good people.

Love to see any reference to Vampire: TMB! Seriously a classic!
Fallout: New Vegas has killing Fiends as it’s too easy karma gain. Fighting raiders blitzed out of their gourds may not sound all that easy, but with how prolific they are, the fact that they attack on sight, and how much karma gain they give, (+100 each), it’s genuinely more challenging to maintain evil karma while strolling through their turf. Plus, being able to make up for any and every mortal sin possible by just killing 20 more people is a bit surreal if you ask me.
Yeah, you need to steal a LOT of forks to make up for fighting raiders
In Fable 1 you got good karma (and lowered your fat level!) by eating tofu, so having a pocket full of that stuff could be a quick fix for any "misdeeds" you might have performed, such as opening the stone door that required you to perform something truly evil in front of it. For that, the easiest way was to chomp down on a disturbingly large number of live chickens (tbh, any number above 0 is disturbing IMO) followed by a nice cleansing detox of a ton of tofu.
The Fable games are weird.
Infamous was a fun game. I like that you could choose to be a good guy or a bad guy. I did both just to see what would be different.
And yet in the Baldur's Gate trilogy it takes 1000gp donation to a temple (even an evil one, for some reason) to raise your reputation by 1 point. I think we're getting gouged.
Damn right that Phil Collins Tarzan soundtrack is amazing.
1:55 Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing?
You could get Pikachu to max friendship in Pokémon Yellow by trying to use a potion with full HP. Pikachu's friendship is increased by the act of giving the potion, but the potion isn't consumed. Repeat 255 times and you'll max it out!
You can even abuse the fishing system: By standing close to a rock while fishing, releasing the fish will result in a perfect fish and positive karma.
Using Celestial Dew or similar items in From Soft games. All you need to do is upset the wrong person/people, find the item, use the item, and bam, you can do it all over.
