I couldn't help but show this to my Grandmother. Her very first car was a 58 blue and white biscayne, 3 on the column and everything else that this car is. Her face lit up, it took her back to happier, more simpler times for a few minutes. Thank you, Kyle!!!
The 50's were a time when drivers didn't have any distractions and drove friendly, and those big back seats is where all the magic happened; yeah baby!
@@lucasaldrich5949 Sounds like they were great times. People were more together, even if they were more divided, and way more respectful. I often say that I was born in the wrong time period, ya know, the way young people act today which is all slutty and disrespectful.
My grandmother had a 1958 Biscayne, the same color as this. Her car had an automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning. I loved it; those fins in the back were awesome. She drove it until 1968, and she bought a 1968 Biscayne, which she drove for 18 years until her death. This car has always been my favorite.
Rust (not only underneath), oil and smoke from underneath the engine. Looks like engine compartment was painted but not very good. Is it ok for the distributer to turn around with high rpm?
Great video! Brought back lots of memories.... we had that car without the rear wheel skirts and with the overdrive... what a car that was! Many trips taken with 6 kids in there! Soooo much room !! Scary to think that there’s no seat belts...
Hey Kyle saw this Chevrolet Biscayne at your families Car Connections Inc in Reidsville 2 weeks ago and was going to ask you to do a review over it. But you have done a review before I have asked. Thanks! What a true american classic. Have a good day.
I love these cars!! I want to have one of these 50s landyachts (although I won't say no to a 90s Towncar!)!! Even by watching Kyle, I imagine that it's very comfortable!! P.S.: Hey, the Blue Flame Six, the original engine of the Corvette!!
If I'm think about buying a vintage 1950's or 1960's car it has to be an American car. No German, no Italian, no Japanese autos can replace these good & old colored USA "jewels". PS: It NEEDS to be a V8. PS II: Nice vid, Saabkyle04!
Very glad you made this review Kyle. It is quite interesting to see the loose steering requiring so much correction for a very small change of direction. The squeaking clutch reminded me my 1976 Nova... That engine bay is so bare-bones. Wow. But what a beautiful car.
My 58 4 door Biscayne had a blue flame 6 paired with a two speed powerglide transmission. I would have preferred the stick, but bought it in the early 80's, so I took what was available. A wonderful car. Wish I had kept it!
Definitely, I've got a Dodge Nitro with a 3.7L V6 in it. Very reliable but it's such a gas hog. Even removing some of the weight which was about 90 pounds from it, it still didn't change much. But yes I definitely agree on that, had no fuel injection, valve timing, etc. Just a very basic engine.
I like the way you handle the shift lever wile driving this car. Most people I have seen on YOU-Tube don't seem to know how to hold and shift it. Good job Kyle.
Does anyone else automatically thumb up this guys video's before they even watch them? You know it's going to be good, and this dude seems so damn nice, it's almost a sin not to click like. I agree with this review 100%!I had a '59 Fairlane 500 a few years back. It ran and drove, for $1500. It was a pretty cool feeling to be behind the wheel! The doors had to weigh 100lbs each! It needed a complete resto, but everything felt so solid (except the steering and brakes, but those are minor issues). Keep up the great content!
Back when cars were more than an appliance, back when each make and model had its own style and soul, back when cars looked like airplanes with wheels instead of eggs with wheels. If they made modern cars look like this, then maybe I could stomach buying one. Thanks for the great video Kyle, as always!
I love how the entire distributor twists for vacuum advance. These cars had so much character- driving "three on the tree" with manual steering and manual brakes is like a workout out the gym. I know, I had one. The acceleration was pitiful and the brakes sucked, yet I loved those old cars!
Amazing...I think I saw 4 wires, other than the spark plug wires, under the hood....LOL The days when you could start the car by running a single wire to the coil and short the starter relay to crank the engine and on your on your way....LOL Nice!! I remember inline sixes very well (from the 70's-80's)
Brian Lawrance oh Brian, you can't be that stupid. Those options didn't even exist till the 2000s I know you hate Hyundai, but you really can't be this dumb. How old are you!! Please tell me you were making a joke. If you were serious, then you really are out there....
Wow! Nice car! I was riding in one with my dad when we wrecked in 1969 (I was 7). No seat belts of course, so I ate the dashboard. Spent a couple weeks in the hospital after that.
This actually seems like the base model after hearing Kyle talk about the features. Between the straight 6 and no AC it sounds and is priced like a base model.
That's a lot of car for that amount of money. Back in the early 2000s, one could still get an Impala for about 20 grand. Today full-size cars cost at least 30 grand or more.
SaabKyle04 that is so weird to see a young person driving "three on the tree" or "column shift" as the old timers called it. Those Chevy sixes were not powerful but they were EXTREMELY reliable and durable. My friend in high school had one and we used to take it to upper NY state hunting where it would be -20 overnight and that car started immediately no matter what (had good heat too-lol). Love your video!
Great video as always! Love this car. During this era US car makers created brands exclusively for my (Canadian) market. On top of their American brands we had Beaumont, Envoy, and Acadian from GM, Meteor and Monarch from Ford, and Valiant and Fargo from Chrysler.
Very beautiful car there is nothing like this older GM cars they are built to last strong body metal i wish newer cars are built like this with out plastic everywhere good luck kyle on this amazing car
Now, in the '60s, there were only two other cars made in America that had positraction, and independent rear suspension, and enough power to make these marks. One was the Corvette, which could never be confused with the Buick Skylark. The other had the same body length, height, width, weight, wheel base, and wheel track as the '64 Skylark, and that was the 1963 Pontiac Tempest.

I'd like that very much Jacob! Unfortunately, I don't have the opportunities where I live now that I did back when I was in school. I'll work hard going forward to try and do as much as I can!
Saabkyle04 , your doing a terrific job right now, and I didn't want to sound rude, but I loved the video so much! I really enjoy the old cars and all the little things they have. And the engine in this is the same model I have in my 49 truck.
Saabkyle04 , yea, I'll have to rebuild my trucks engine, and then you'll have to come up to NY to film it. It's a 2 ton stake bed truck, with 19,000 miles
I like fender skirts it is the only option on this 1958 Chevrolet Biscayne, 4 door sedan. Wish that they have fender skirts for cars of the future for the rear wheels.

With bench seats, the good times can happen up front or in the back.
Kids and pets in cars are distracting.
none of your business what?
Exactly, back when people actually cared about others and not judging about how they look

Only skin-deep in perfect condition. Did you not see all that rust when he showed pics of underneath the car?
Rust (not only underneath), oil and smoke from underneath the engine. Looks like engine compartment was painted but not very good.
Is it ok for the distributer to turn around with high rpm?
ChinnuWoW It’s an old car. Of course there’s going to be rust underneath it.

Gorgeous car and color scheme. I love that she's original and not grossly restored. Thank you Kyle for finding this lovely Straight-6 classic.

Unfortunately not, that came with the redesign in 1959.
