    Can I ask you one question? How do you move the color part upfront or below? Like when you adding the glasses you change the hair first but later on you can pull it upfront 0:52

    Hi GREAT video and thank you!! Is this in real time...or was it sped up...I'm just trying gauge how long it took to create the spinning effect?

    • @PhilRayArt
      @PhilRayArt  Рік тому

      Hey, I'm glad you like the video. Time is sped up here. It was a long time ago, so I don't remember exactly how long it took. But judging by the clock at the bottom right, it probably took me 4-5 hours in total.

    Ty mate great tips ! I suggest for those who dont have a drawing tablet (not sure of this translation >< let's say a digital expansive drawing stuff ^^) to just hand draw the main key frames and then scan them to use as sketch layer (sorry for the eventual English mistakes … I'm french ^0^). Takes a little bit more time and I never tried on OpenToonz but it works great on Illustrator so I guess it should work on OpenToonz too. Super cool tutorial by the way, I'm subscribing right away =)

    This app is really interesting and I want to use it but I like how Adobe Animate handles vectors better, its easier to use and make modifications to. (When I make a line, it treats it like a shape instead of a line so it gives me more options to edit it.

    ok when I make something with this software CAN I UPLOAD IT TO UA-cam? becausde there is a looong license agreement...quite confusing...

    • @starlette7820
      @starlette7820 7 років тому +2

      You can, they made the software free to use for a reason... If you own a copy of the program, which you do, then you can do whatever the fuck you want with it. It's the same as if you owned a license for Toonboom or Adobe Animate, you can do what you want with what you make with it.

    Very nice video.
    I'm a newbie to animation and I want to learn how to animate stories with voice. From where do I start? I'm very bad at drawing.

      I exclusively worked with a windows 10 drawing tablet. It should work.

    Is it possible to design a character in illustrator and transfer layers over? I'm used to animating in after effects. Thanks

    I have a question though how do you duplicate a frame? Every time I try to do it it I edit the duplicate but it affects the original

    • @thenikhilray99
      @thenikhilray99 6 років тому

      Megamations In right side where you can see drawing , Right click and select duplicate . Then drag that layer on to the Xsheet.

    The back of her head. The circular hair. How did you make it move from the front to the back? How did you animate the hierarchy?

    • @PhilRayArt
      @PhilRayArt  7 років тому +1

      On the appropriate frame, i would bring forward the shapes i wanted in the front and send back the parts i wanted behind. Use the bracket keys [ & ] to bring shapes forward/backward. control bracket will send to front/back.

      ...and these changes are saved in keyframes? Perhaps this is detrimental to manually adding in keyframes. At least this does not require moving columns. I will find a way to group columns to avoid a mess. Thank you for explaining this.

    how do i create vector layer ?

    • @PhilRayArt
      @PhilRayArt  8 років тому +1

      Hey Karla. Technically, there are no layers in OpenToonz. Columns on the XSheet function similar to layers in that they display one on top of the other, but the actual drawing happens in Levels, which are collections of drawings that you can expose to frames on the XSheet. You can have drawings from multiple different levels exposed in the same column, as well as drawings from the same level exposed over different columns. To create a new vector level, click file-new level- and select the vector option (i think it is set to vector by default actually.) Check out my other tutorial: OpenToonz: TRUE Beginner's Tutorial (ua-cam.com/video/ra_QRc2o9rM/v-deo.html) for a more in-depth explanation of how OpenToonz does things.
      Hope this helps!
