    I don't ever really bother to comment on videos but I'm hoping you'll actually read this one. I just wanted to say I really appreciate the work you're putting in making these videos and sharing your honest opinions. Revzilla is great but I feel like you're more capable of sharing knowledgeable info where areas they are more into pushing for sales through their site (except for Lemmy, he's a gem). Keep up the good work! I'd like to see more content geared around sport bikes but we'll keep that between you and me😏

    Nice helmets and good choices!
    Awesome that you also take the $/€-aspect into consideration ^^
    However I got another helmet to suggest:
    The Caberg Duke and/or Duke II. (Caberg's from Italy and here in Germany they're somewhat known, although not too much because Caberg is not advertising them enough).
    Comes in many different colors, I got the Duke in both, black and hiviz.
    Was one of the first, if not *the* first flipup-helmet to get 5 Star-SHARP-rating, too. ;)
    Comes with a Pinlock-visor most of the time, can be chinbar-locked and has an internal sunvisor (without a spring, which means the sunvisor will not wear out and will always be snappy and well in place). The visor can be removed without any tools, same like the sunvisor. Just pushing buttons and pulling out the visor when it's sitting in a specific position.
    Visor has 3 different positions and is not "seizure"like as you demonstrated at 7:29 ;) I leave it 1cm/half an inch open most of the time and it stays open, be it driving on the autobahn, over speed-bumps or hefty acceleration/braking.
    They're pretty ventilate almost windy, tho. But because of the fact that I run around in winter with a tshirt and short pants means I got no problem with cold/windy weather.

    After trying one on at Cycle Gear in LA. I just ordered the Shoei Neotec from F9. For a few reasons, 1. Competitive price, and free shipping, 2. You had it in stock 3. These videos are extremely well done, helpful and credible. 4. I wanted to try F9. 5. I would have bought at Cycle Gear, but with the exchange rate it would have cost $689 x 1.3. And forget about returns with Cycle Gear retail. So, we'll see how F9 does. And thanks for the videos.

    Just received a Strobe LS2 helmet and immediately tried it on my loaf-shaped noggin. It's gotta be the most comfortable helmet I've owned, let alone tried on. I can get my glasses on after it's on my head, the inner shield is easy to use and misses my glasses and nose. The chin wind guard may get in the way of triggering the latch so either take it off or remove a glove before reaching up to release the chin bar. I didn't know if I'd like the quick latch system rather than D-rings but it turned out I do. Really, I just got it and haven't ridden with it on yet but it can't be any more noisy than the Fulmer modular that never fit well and it's lighter. I did note that the Fulmer has what seems to be a more rugged latch on the chin bar but if I come off my bike at this time in my life, I'm gonna worry about plenty of other stuff at that time, LOL! I think the helmet is a really good value.

    I have the at-950 neocon... loooove it! Not noted in video: dont need to remove visor to use goggles, pin lock visor is available, sun peak removed is great for city/sport riding, though with long oval dirtbike shape lends to a bit of bobblehead unless tucked

    The chin lock for a reason - see, the Metro is homologated both as full-face and open-face helmet - at least here in Europe. In other words, in some coutries, it's actually legal to ride with it fully open. Surprisingly, most modulars are not open-face homologated.

    OK, I've owned my TK1200 for 4 years and just ordered another. If you want a quality light lid, I'm obviously happy with this one. I really like the ratchet chin strap and the Transitions shield. My only complaint is face shield removal is a p.i.a. I have no problem with the detents whatsoever. The cracked open position is perfect for me when cold and the next one up is perfect for warm weather. I sorry Ryan, I don't think you gave this helmet a fair shake.

    hey Ryan. I own an LS2 metro myself. noise, yes is not minimized, but then again I use earplugs. you forgot about the vent at the back that streams air down your neck. I like the fit of the helmet. and it does look good

    I was leaning toward the Strobe, and thanks to your video, I went ahead and bought one today. I just went out on a test run, early June in Western Colorado so I could see how it performs IN A SUDDEN DOWNPOUR. It did okay.

    • @aztecaddress6356

      What are other pros and cons can you emphasize?
      The Strobe is one of my next lists of Helmets I would want to buy next, and if Ry says it's good then I might consider choosing the Strobe overall.
      It still helps what others may think though....and removing the Strobe's visor seems like a chore to me.

    Ryan thank you so much for this video. I have been shopping for a good cold weather/rainy weather helmet that I could use. I have issues with my neck so it has to be light. Over the last couple years I have tried a couple of full face helmets but found them a pain to put on as I wear glasses and it felt like I had blinders on. I did have a 3/4 helmet with a shield but the airflow on my bike seemed to deflect bugs up behind the shield into my eyes. So I just kept going back to my Bell Pit Boss. It was the only helmet that seemed to work for me. That is, until I seen this video. The things that got my attention right away was the LS2 Strobe has a good look to it, light weight, has what looked to have a better field of view, than most, and it was for a long oval head. Everyone of these are the things I was looking for. I decided to order one and it arrived today. As soon as I put it on I could tell it was a perfect fit, so comfy. I took the bike out for a ride around town and then a one hour drive on the highway. It blew me away, I love it. It met every criteria I was after, plus it really is a nice quiet helmet that does not shake on my head behind my windshield. I am going to order the pin shield for when the cooler temps hit in the fall. I see the vents are smallish and it may get warm on hot days, not something I am concerned about though. With my fairing and windshield I could ride all day with the visor cracked open. I tried it like that for a test on the highway and the only difference I noticed was more ventilation and I could hear my stereo a bit louder.

    I don't get it. the Klim TK1200 MSRP is $599. Where's the $850 coming from? This means they're about the same price, except the TK1200 comes with a transitions shield.
    I also see that the TK1200 has a 4-Star SHARP rating and the RPHA-MAX has only a 3-Star rating. Do you not worry much about these?

    • @waltermh111
      @waltermh111 6 років тому

      He mentioned in one of the other helmets that the 3 star rating from Sharp was acceptable. And honestly, unless you are on a sports bike, it probably is.
      As for the price, he is in Canada, where the prices are different.
      fortnine.ca/en/klim-tk1200-traverse-karbon-helmet
      At least, it is what they charge. Klims website only shows USD I think, not Canadian price. Its not common for things to be the same price due to import and currency exchange. Though a $200 difference does seem like a bit much.

    Appreciate the candid ... some would say "blunt" ... reviews. I've owned Scorpion and Arai. Yes, there's a difference in weight (Arai lighter) but am pleased with the value in Scorpion. Am considering the ADV modular for its versatility and ease of sipping on my hydration unit without needing to raise the chin bar. Just wish it came in full Hi-Viz color scheme.

    I occasionally use a Shoei NeoTec 2 with the SLR intercom and it's noisy as hell and weighs a bloody ton! Yes it feels quality, but after a few hours it becomes tiresome and starts to strain the neck. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Shoei have really lost there way with the Neotec modular and every year it gets just a little bit heavier (and I swear I can hear them say in board meetings... "ahh sooo - no worry fu man chu, petty westerners will never notice diffarrenncce in weight being little bit moor, ah sooo"!

    The LS2 Strobe looks like it has Pinlock holes in the visor. Did you just mean the helmet doesn't come with a Pinlock? Or are the holes in the visor for some other reason.
    Aside from that, I have to say the drop down sun visor looks like it drops really low, covering the eyes completely which is really good. Even top line helmets sometimes have drop down sun visors which don't drop far enough.

    • @FortNine
      @FortNine  7 років тому

      Yep! The Strobe is *ready* to take a pinlock visor, LS2 just doesn't include one in the box. For what it's worth, LS2 makes their own "Fog Fighter System" lenses... it's the exact same principle as Pinlock, just a different name. Cheers! ~RF9

      Sweet, thanks for clearing that up! I understand the disappointment, my
      Kabuto Aeroblade 3 comes with a Pinlock insert in the box if you buy it
      in the USA, but if you buy it on my home soil of Australia, no such
      luck.

    I was expecting helmets that can be used either as full-face or open face with the chin bar sliding all the way to the back, a la Roof Boxer or my current LS2 FF393. Anyhow, I was happily surprised by the quality of my LS2 helmet, their value for money really can''t be beat. BUT, the FF393 is a very noisy helmet, almost unbearably so on windy days. So, I'm looking around for reviews of, let's call them "convertible" helmets, that are quiet, reasonably well-made, will accept my Sena, and are available in Canada. Hopefully you'll publish a review of these helmets sometime soon.

    Hello Ryan. 3 helmets I'm stuck on. Hjc rpha max, scorpion 3000 and Hjc rpha pro. ( pro is solid while the other two are modular ) in your opinion would you choose either the max or 3000 and the reason why. I like the look and color of the pro, that's why it's on my list of three. I'm not a sport rider. I don't speed and I don't ride in heavy rain or cold. I think a modular is best for me... but I love the look of the pro. I'm a mostly cruiser rider. I ride with and without a wind shield. I sit straight up or slightly leaned forward. My head is abit more lng than wide. So I'm an oval or intermediate oval. I tried on the shoei 1200 and it's modular versin... but didn't find it was worth the difference in price. I also know you don't like the visor mechanism onto max. So... help me decide. Thanks.

    I have been a HJC fan for a while. Have an old IS-Bit and bought a CL-17 last summer. All HJC helmets with a retractable shield have a long groove in the outer shell for operation of this shield, which concerns me. My old IS has been in rain on many long days of riding without leakage. How does HJC keep the water out and how is the helmet strength not compromised by the long grove?

    What do you guys think of the new Nolan n104 absolute fade helmets? I have a neotec currently but love the look of that red black fade.

      @FortNine  7 років тому

      The N104 is a solid helmet... you'll notice that it's pretty similar to your Neotec. Slightly lower quality and not as good for venting, but then again the N104 is a fair bit cheaper. And you're right, that fade graphic is soooooooooooo slick. ~RyanF9

    Hi Ryan. How are you doing? I remember you mentioning that you hate the internal sun shield actuator of the HJC IS series. Don't get me wrong. I love my IS-33 II but you're right. I went on a mountain road ride yesterday. When I pressed the button at the top of my helmet to retract the internal sun visor, It went up only about halfway. I just put my hand on top of my head and slid it backward manually. You can't just pop the button. You need to hold it down for maybe half a second, at least on my helmet. Would applying WD-40 along the slider's edges work? I was just wondering. Thanks.

      @FortNine  7 років тому

      Hi Carmelo! I'm doing well thanks, how are you? Bummer to hear about your shield actuator not working... I really wish HJC would ditch the springs already. As for a solution, it depends. Normally the actuator fails because it gets dirty *or* because the spring gets worn out over time. How old is your IS-33? If it's pretty new, probably the mechanism is just gunked up, in which case lubrication might help. I'd stay away from WD-40 since there's a chance it could do some damage to the chemicals in your helmet. A dry lubricant like graphite might be more safe. Also worth simply flushing the mechanism with hot water beforehand. Hope that helps! ~RyanF9

      Thanks for the advice. I just bought it last July I believe. One of the things I do with my helmets is I always clean them with water and a rug. Is it possible that water has caused those springs to get rusty?

    Your sarcastic questioning of the need for a latch to hold the chin bar in the up position (when used as an open face) suggests you're not aware how these helmets are tested and certified. A latch to hold the chin bar when open is a legal requirement to attain certification in several jurisdictions. Cheers, Terry Colley, from Australia.

    Hi Ryan, great work with all the videos! I started late riding bikes with an off-road bike and even later with a street bike (V-Strom 650), 4 years ago. So before I got a road helmet, a Caberg Duke, I rode the first months with my off-road helmet and goggles. Now that I comute everyday, hot summer days are a pain. Inside the city with the chin bar up its manageable but as soon as I hit the highway I must close the chin bar and even with the sun visor down I can't have the main visor up because my eyes are so sensitive to the wind. And I keep remembering the days I wore the off-road helmet... so much air in my face!
    Any suggestions? Wearing goggles with the road helmet? Wearing an off-road-helmet in the highway...?

    What kind of full face or modular do you recommend that doesn't inhibit peripheral vision,Ryan? I like the idea of full face protection but I haven't found anything other than a 3/4 that doesn't make me feel like I am wearing blinders..Thoughts? I wear a 7 1/4 hat US.

      Hey Kenny! Check out the Nolan N44... I think that's probably the hugest FOV I've seen on a modular helmet. Also it's not a normal modular.. the chin bar actually comes off if you feel like returning to your 3/4 days for a while. Videos with the N44 here (ua-cam.com/video/S15uLJuZyFg/v-deo.html) and here (ua-cam.com/video/_2yLJq9QJrQ/v-deo.html). Cheers! ~RyanF9
