Some years back, I saw them in concert in Wolverhampton, UK. I went with my wife and she's not really a fan. The band started with a 40 minute continuous play of an entire piece of music. My wife said she was going to use the toilet. I carried on watching the band. At the end of the 40 minutes, a break was called. I looked around, couldn't find my wife, assumed she was sitting in the bar or something, so when the band re-started, I got back to the front and carried on listening. Altogether, the band played for over 3 hours. I waited for everyone to leave, to see if I could find my wife. Nothing. So I went outside to find her sitting on the concrete steps outside. "Where have you been?" I asked. "Out here all evening," she said. "Why?" I asked. "I got kicked out for smoking in the toilets."
It fills me with joy to see people enjoying PT more these days. One of my all time fav 🇬🇧 bands . Disgusting though ,with me being British that it took a Polish friend of mine to introduce me to the band. Bloody music industry !
I heard the song for the first time on a promo DVD in 5.1 surround sound (B&W - A Sound Experience 2005) from speaker manufacturer Bowers and Wilkens. This 5.1 mix alone blew me away.
How they always manage to get this sing and songwriter vibe into such complex songs. You want to walk and whistle all these songs. Earworms, addictive, great lyrics, amazing tempo changes, 3-4 7 5 4 4 They just grab you and don't let you go. I've seen them live recently in Amsterdam and in the weeks thereafter they have been on shuffle playlist over and over
This, and other PT songs, were given to me from a co-worker of my ex. They said I would like it because I liked Spock's Beard. They were right! I couldn't believe I missed the opportunity of coming across music like this when it came out.
Deadwing is without doubt my favourite Porcupine Tree album. I find it pretty accessible, yet full of power and drive. I think I read somewhere that it isn't Wilson's favourite, but he doesn't know everything!
Rush and Pink Floyd were the first bands that blew me away with their music. Rush right away because of their technical abilities, Floyd was more of a slow appreciation. Then there was a lull until PT came along and like Larry I was consumed by them for years. They are the full package. They play a huge range of musical styles, are absolute monster musicians, and are one of the small number of bands who generally sound better live than in the studio. In the prog arena, PT still stand as my favorite band to this day. Riverside, Opeth, Pineapple Thief are the other prog bands that rank up there. Radiohead is another band that I'm really getting into recently (I know late to the party). Their music takes more work to appreciate, but really good also.
It's amazing to be here and listening to music with you. Nice to meet you Larry. I'd love to see you again on the channel. I also listen to Porcupine for almost 2 years straight so I know what you felt. :)
Thank you Miguel for your very kind words. Kel n Rich are truly amazing as well as all of the viewers out there! It was quite the honor to be invited to do this! All the best to you Miguel!
@@lawrencejohnson2179 hey, it's my pleasure mate. If you wanna listen to a great album you probably never heard before check out "Burn the Sun" by Ark. It's a musical journey and an ode to great singing.
They actually do do an (slightly) extended jam on this concert! On the song Open Car, it’s pretty short but MAN I wish they had included the extra bit on the studio version, it’s amazing. Gotta check that one out.
You are a great trio. Larry seems to want to go through the whole In Absentia album - nothing wrong with that, I came to Porcupine Tree much the same way as Larry and I love their music. Also, he somehow reminds me of Leland Stottlemeyer from the show Monk (which is a good thing, I liked the character a lot) - maybe it's the moustache? Anyhow, three great people I have fun listening to. Please stay awesome! You seem to have so much fun.
He/They are so freakin amazing !! I forget if you had done it yet, but Anesthatize (live) incredible. Fear of a Blank Planet. And....Steven wilson with the incredible Ninet Tayeb doing PARIAH live from Royal Albert hall will have you crying...
Personally I like whatever you guys decide to do. With this channel, you folks are the drivers. The rest of us are just along for the ride. Subscribed to your new channel.
@@Kel.N.RichReactions You posted early today so I was able to watch most of your reactions. Usually, depending on what time you post, I only watch a couple and watch most the next day. Will watch DT tomorrow. Had to give the PT reactions a priority. Good set tonight.
Nice reaction - PT is my No. 1 Progrock - I have all their stuff + all Steven Wilsons solostuff. He is a genius. While watching this reaction at 8:20 one thought hit me: Imagine a 4th person walks into your room. There is total quiet in the room, but he sees 3 metalheads, sitting and nodding odly to a PC screen, not noticing him :D But hey, thats what we are doing, when watching YT. Thanks for the upload - you are the best :-) Kind regards Jesper/Denmark.
Great band, I've been fortunate to see Steven Wilson live in the UK on The Hand Cannot Erase tour. Check out his later stuff, 'Routine' off 'Hand Cannot Erase Album' or 'The Raven That Refused to Sing' a very powerful song from 'The Raven That Refused to Sing (And Other Stories)' album. Love your videos.
Hi gueez, you should give a go to BLACKFIELD , another project with Steven Wilson . I'm sure you'll love this band aswell. Same sound as Porcupine Tree ;-))
I've seen in a few places that this song is about Ted Bundy. Whether it's that specific or not, I think it is fairly obvious when you delve into the lyrics that it is about some sort of disturbed individual, likely a serial killer of some sort.
now that you're doing Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree, you OWE it to yourselves to do Anathema, and their utter world-beating, uber-emotional roller-coaster ride known as "Untouchable Part I" and "Untouchable Part II". these songs were not written by mere humans....gods composed these.

Ok you are cut off kel, that's not how you do a mic drop, that is more of a mic slam, nice catch tho for a bunch of pirates. oh, Pokey better get there and calm things down.
I know you guys have reacted to Anesthetise, but you need to do yourselves a favour and watch their full concert Live in Tilburg Netherlands. Pretty sure they play Fear of a Blank Planet in full, plus assorted hits. Phenomenal gig which I saw when it came to my country, Australia.

Larry likes Porcupine Tree. Means he's cool to me. Everything they've done is exemplary.

THE track that got me into PT. wish I can relive the first time I ever listened to this. Life was changed
This and Trains were the first PT tracks for me. Blackest Eyes may be my favorite PT song, althought it's tough to choose.
Yeah!!! I adore this song! Porcupine Tree never fails to delivers power and emotion, thanks to share this again, Steven Wilson is A GENIUS!!!!
Glad to see someone finally listening to Porcupine Tree. They are awesome.
'Way out of here' or 'Anesthetize' live in Tilburg
Agree! Anything from that Tilburg show is incredible. I saw them live a couple times, easily the best band Ive ever seen live.
Yesssss, this is masterpiece. 🍀💚

He made the album and he 'doesn't know everything'... okay..
Please check out some blackfield! It’s One of Steven Wilson’s side project.
