- Imtiaz Ali is one of those rare breed of filmmakers in India that make films and in return give their audience ample food for thought. After making short films for TV, Imtiaz forayed into mainstream cinema with Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia-starrer, Socha Na Tha, which gained cult status with the youth despite being declared a dud the year it released. Imtiaz Ali went on to give Kareena Kapoor Khan her most-special role ever with Jab We Met and followed the success of JWM with a love story running parallel with the past and the present in Love Aaj Kal. Then came Rockstar and the world saw him and his film's actor, Ranbir Kapoor in a completely different light. The film's content was riveting enough to touch a chord in everyone's hearts and remains to be one of the best content-driven films of recent times. Last year's Highway was Alia Bhatt's milestone to show that she could act and her prowess was measured because of the reception of this film. Truly, if it weren't for Imtiaz Ali, there wouldn't be many firsts for any actor he has worked with. Tamasha starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone brings the current favorite couple back together and this one too is sure to be an engaging story that Imtiaz Ali is trying to tell about a man who loses himself due to societal pressures but love changes him and restores life into him. The best director today we have in India. I am basing this on Highway and Tamasha. Rest movies were good but these two are class apart.

I watched this film in cinema hall and did not like it . I thought it was boring and didn't understand it much. But few months back, I saw it again and loved it. I love his direction. Though complex but deep.

Only reason Tamasha did not do well is because the struggle of RK in this movie was stretched too much and the way it was stretched was quite boring and not relatable. Other wise it could have been a brilliant movie. Sometimes in order to look too different, directors forget that these things should be done in small doses. Internal struggle is not so much about what you want and dream but rather about should I or should I not, what about family, money, will I be successful, should I step out of my conventional life etc. Here they showed that RK was unable to understand what he really wants and goes searching for answers. That kind of got boring. But good try Mr. Ali. I do like you and your movies. Keep it simple and yet different.

it's long because it's a complex struggle. there's the internal struggle, there's the struggle about his career, then the love life struggle
It was relatable to the people who have faced/are facing that struggle in their lives. It is the kind of movie which may seem boring if you intend to seek just entertainment out of it but If you give it time, If you completely surrender to the film and allow it to do its magic, You'll come out of it moved beyond expectation. Give it another shot.
