Tamasha was a gem of a movie - intelligent, creative, emotional and full of passion. It always saddens me that it was so grossly underappreciated.
i feel Imtiaz do a lot of psychoanalysis of the people around him...the intelligent guy that he is,mostly he is right in his analysis as well. Though he returns the favor by advising them with good things too. I think thats the reason he bonds with his actors on multiple levels.
it pains me to this day to know that tamasha wasn't a blockbuster
it's one of the finest film ever made
Oh my God! Imitiaz is such an amazing listener! I mean the focus with which he is observing both deepika as well as anupama! He is not just hearing, he is listening and it reflects in his movies! He can create magical scenes without dialogues! The characters in his movies speak more than dialogues- he can capture so much with body language!
Deepika mam what a great actress you so beautiful so talented, pls continue making great movies.
Hello Mam, we would love to see you bring SLB and Deepika together, it would be really great if Aishwarya is also accompanied.
She is so genourous and kind so is Imtiaz Ali.
thanks a lot film companion for going to an unfamiliar territory of Bollywood of showing the bond and understanding b/w an actress and a director for the first time. it's a very special interview and was a delight to watch.
always love your interviews with dp...loved the insightful questions you were asking, amazing interview and the friendship between imtiaz/deepika is so nice to see
imitiaz and deepika blockbusters are def.not arising wen they work togeder bcz imtiaz gives blockbuters lyk jab v met, rockstar and deepika ram leela chennai xpress piku but still i think imtiaz and deepika make a best director-actress combo..i dono y still it s best combo..hope dey giv.blockbuster in future
Love these indepth interviews about filmmaking !! Please dont stop this such interviews !!
I've been watching Anupama's interviews with Deepika and I must agree with you all: the questions are getting repetitive. But I firmly believe that this is happening because she's not satisfied with Deepika's answers about her evolution (well, I know I'm not). She never tells what has changed. It's impossible coming from a mediocre performance like Break Ke Baad to the one she gave in Ram-Leela without nothing happening. Maybe Anupama will ask it until she gives a satisfactory answer.Deepika isn't just acting well: she's mesmerizing the viewer. The process of changing is fascinating.
I was wishing to hear them both telling what made Tamasha a special movie for them. Why did she chose it? What's the difference between this movie and Imtiaz's previous works? In what way is he exposing himself with Tamasha?
She become mature after depression n live life fully after meeting with ranveer
@@HAPPY-dd6ud ranveer changed her completely she became more confident as she was secured in a relationship with a person like ranveer she was secured in her personal space so shifted her gears completely towards professional life which is acting initially she got diverted with other stuffs.
Imtiaz Ali desi swag! Carry on sir.
Sir one of the finest directors in our industry true admirer of your work the emotional connect of your movies with your audience is huge.
Pls keep continue your good work.
Pls make movies focusing more on womens characters.
Hi Anupama, you are the only saving grace for the filmmakers and Bollywood interviews. Please do it more often. :)
Hi Anupama. I love the videos you make and share. It's very well executed, clean and crisp. I hope one day you will also bring a panel discussion of actors and actresses from 80's and 90's like Sridevi, Madhuri & Juhi and discuss what was it like then for them making films. It will be very enlightening !! Thanks Diana.
+jade shimmers It’s a great idea Diana but coordinating these schedules would require superhuman powers!! I will let you know if it happens. - Anupama
Do more interviews like this... i like it!
Please Anu come back to reviewing movies.. yours is only that is true to the art of critique and the love for Indian movies..
your are superb mam...please do continue..
okay, I'll tell you what, we just love you anupama , I mean I am head over heels for you, I've been following you since your show-the front row first aired on star world. now, the thing with your interviews is that , it's not an interview, more like a discussion on one question , plus your questions are same in every interview of yours. so can I ask the film companion team to work things out . I just love you and what you do anupama ( P.s I just had to write this.)
Lovely interview like always. I loved how insightful in the questions were, they provoke perceptive and telling responses.
i liked it .......... need a longer conversation ................ why only 15 min ......... i love u deepika .........
This interview was one of the best ones ever. I just loved the way Imtiaz Ali said 'intoxication of your own work' and after sometime you're in a trance. Very spiritual. It was very surreal. Though some might say it was low on energy I don't think that's true. I just enjoyed it very much, by how both of them spoke so a
intuitively. Keep 'em coming Anupama Chopra... :)
Mam...
Sir can do any kind of film...he is one of the best director like subash ghai sir, yash sir
Dichotomy......Its imitiazz signature emotion in all the films....
Hey Anupama Ma'am,
This interview was very dull and low energy. I really appreciate you asking some serious, off beat and deeply personal questions. It's refreshing to see someone ask those questions. :-) But please mix it with some fun questions in between to keep the flow fun and interesting, I don't think they came with the mindset of you going all deep and personal for the whole interview.
Keep up the good work!
Can you also ask her why she chooses roles like Meenamma and Mohini too, where the girls get mistreated and disrespected by the men they love, and still go chasing after them with no iota of self-respect?
+dia606 hahaha.VEry true, she was asked by them in MAMI about the cleavage controversy and it seems she does not want to take a stand over it or sadly has no opinion over it.These people are so much disillusioned in their world that it is absurd to expect deep/sensible questions or answers from them. They are more comfortable talking about their relationships as if noone else ever has a break up
Because Farah Khan and SRK launched her and Deepika is someone who is really grounded. She mentioned in one of her interviews that she would any day do a movie offered by them without reading the script firstly itself.
In Chennai exprees is there a scene that she is humiliated I don't think so
Although i hv been an ardent follower of Anupama Chopra since she reviewed films on NDTV and later went on to host the Front Row which cemented her status as the popular host/critic who made some really good interviews with film personalities. I hv to say, i am gradually dissappointed in the way she conducts her interviews. She comes across as this fangirl who is so besotted with the actors that she keeps asking these silly obvious questions. The answers to which i am sure she's already memorised by now!
"How do you feel when you see Deepika so successful??"..,,,,of course he would be happy n beaming with pride! Do u expect anything else??
Rajiv Masand your dear friend is more of a critic and a geek with a sense of humour but you sure Anupama need to up your game, otherwise it would be another run of the mill shows which i doubt it has already become.
Yeah. Sadly have to agree. Too much fangirling over "stars". Please get back to the "actors" and actually creators
+dia606 not to forget the technical people involved in the process.their hard work is never talked about and their pay is measly.
Dipanwita Ghosh well said...true, in most of her interviews she comes across as overly courteous n smiling with cliche questions...
Please start reviewing again!
Pleeaasssee?? PRETTY PLEASE?!
+Pratik Deshmukh Hi Pratik, I’m starting this week with Tamasha. Let me know what you think! - Anupama
dipikapadu kon jine bahut bahut kafi sare handhrerparsan wandarbutifull parfomesan faien movie Kiya he wotis lovely good
FAV PEOPLE INCLUDING ANUPAMA
Wait how did he know her to offer her Rockstar before om Shanti om without any many connections... Like how... Lucky fellow dp is
Anupama mam when will you start reviewing movies again
Truly it has been a lot of buzz that women had been a ignored part of the industry. Well as per my basic level of understanding I see Bollywood as an art industry.
Again coming to my perception, art is representation of a lookout or presentation of a reality of now. It may also involve morals to decorate and convert the lookout to future or something similar to make the present more appropriate.
Now women are ignored that means the artwork never had any impact from famine roles. Well it's really hard to imagine a story of life where a man along with a woman of any significant role is not involved.
It's something like drawing a painting without colours.
So firstly distinguishing men centric and women centric films looks a bit irrelevant in my vision.
Because, I see characters as building blocks of a story. If one character is missing or missplaced it ruins the whole narration.
So the brief of my saying is that atleast in no movie till now I can say that men were everything of that. Like coming to a old movie Karan-Arjun, it would have been irrelevant and the lead male roles would have been insignificant without presence of Rakhi mam.
Now following this coming to payments made to actors and actresses, I feel this can be well judged by the producers where to invest more. Whom to pay more. Because the script and the scenes of the presence of the corresponding character can easily justify the labour of the corresponding actor. Also protocols can be formulated by business analysis brains to deal with ties. I would suggest sharing of the trophy equivalently.
Though I truly appreciate that today's films like NH10, Marry Kom and recently seen Tamasha too brings the highlights to the contribution of women in life of men and women. I belief such movies must increase in numbers and competition must go to intergender level by giving one best performance award.
:-)
Thanks.
Have a beautiful day coming along.
:-)
Thank you for this interview. But u have to stop embarrassing Deepika. She has said that she doesn't know how to take compliments. Oh but I love the fact that you love her. P.S i love Sucharita but can we also have you on board?
Obviously
I send a wish to the universe today. Imtiaz please cast Ranbir and Deepika in your film😢
Use mic wisely 😊👍🏻
You should.
Of course it should be changed
Hey Anupama, nice interview..but can you please tell us why you don't do film reviews anymore. It has been a long sabbatical I must say. Films like Titli which have your comment at the beginning of the movie do imply that you have been seeing those movies. The bio of Film Companion is "the bedrock is film review", maybe it's time to change it to "Not a film review". Sucharita has been doing alright and has improved a lot since the time she started. But we still like your style of reviewing. Looking forward to your reviews...
+viraj roy Thanks Viraj - I start this week with Tamasha! - Anupama
whatever is written for U :
afterall, U LL get it #
mehanat with kismat me jo hai deri si sahi
wohi melega : 100% milega haha HA
Still waiting for deepika to turn herself into a character fully n immersed herself completely in her role that i forget im seeing deepika like i do for brilliant multi talented artist Priyanka chopra...deepika should have worked harder to make her mastani character more visible like she was in piku
wow best her being pretty and graceful looking a thing, she is not an out and out spectacular actress! yes she is competently good and in fact very good in some scenes of some of her roles, for she started as a nothing and worked her way up to being capable of the acting she possesses right now. She being one of the top right now is to an extent justified, in spite of being fairly decent-good, she knows to act which a lot of others don't in films these days. Actresses more talented like yami gautam, alia bhatt etc have started to get meaty roles but she did get them way before them and established herself with hits (although her performances are debatable in some of them), all leading to her rising quickly to the top and also crossing the line in people's percpetion of her to be overrated. she is fairly good but just overrated with being called one of the top actresses or stars of bollywood all time or of the last decade and all that shit.
priyanka chopra is in a different league compared to her, and though she did look gorgeous and beyond that at times due to bhansali's cinematography(the frames and lighting with the apt level of make-up that enhanced her beauty as hell), the role was just too much to carry for her.
it clearly exposed her limitations as an actress which people are still blind to. she had it all, a stellar script and screenplay around her, cinematography, direction everything going her way to elevate it, and a truly truly graceful and a stunningly talented actress would've made it one of the most legendary performances of indian cinema, not just bollywood. Instead of rising to the occasion she did indeed fall flat for most part of the film, excpet for a very few scenes where she did pretty well. such a mis-sync with the character, that throughout the film i could only look at her and feel "a hot deepika" in a more desi and a classical avatar, than actually seeing her as mastani. And piku was nothing, i really didn;t find anything special about her acting as such, though she was restrained and sensitive in a few scenes.
She is not an artist who can make you forget that she's acting and immerse you in her character, she s just a fairly decent to good actress. And her laidback, monotonously draggy, pretentious and all "trying to be natural" and moody type of acting with no variety whatsoever, really got to my nerves in many films of hers, pretty much the same in almost every film.
anon Completely agree priyanka and also kareena are from a totally different leagues they shouldn't be compared with any contemporary actress
I seriously hate Deepika now, for not accepting Rockstar.
IMO Choosing Nargis was the only terrible flaw in the masterpiece.
Whoever the girl interviewer is just shut up and let them speak
Boring interview
Good bye.. I won't talk to u 5 percent people..
Anupama is so artificial.
Deleted blocked regretted
cut the pretence of brilliance man. I swear the reverence is so annoying. their films aren't that great. LAK was mediocre, cocktail regressive and tamasha isnt looking any different.
Agreed, Jab We Met is the only movie which is close to brilliance. Socha Na tha was pretty good too
I may be wrong. But I like the fact about the one holiday stand and them keeping their identities secret
+pavi dwibhu Oh really? Why don't you tell us about the message in Tamasha? I bet you can't even comprehend and understand what Imtiaz Ali has discovered through experience in life and beautifully translated onto celluloid.
pavi dwibhu movies like tamasha, highway, rockstar, jab we met are considered one of bollywood's best. He has given bollywood actors best of their careers..
Since Imtiaz Ali has become a Deepika Padukone freak I have started disliking him even more.....😖😖😖
kritika megharajani I just don't get why is he so obsessed with her. I get that she's been a breath of fresh air with a combo of graceful looks and some acting talent, but that's about it, and it's not as fresh anymore that it's in fact stagnant and repititive with every film of hers. Jab harry met sejal flopped but I am very happy that he chose to go with somebody else than deepika. Not to spread hate about her, but i sort of hunt for people if any exist who are balanced in their views or actually differ from the views of the general public these days who are just pretty much dumb in being "obsessed"with her. She's beautiful and fairly good in acting, but she is overrated for both, more so for her supposed "classy" acting abilities. It won't be long before the more talented some of the younger lot catch up, kangana choosing her scripts wisely, kareena making a comeback and priyanka turning her attention back towards bollywood.
anon what on earth is your problem she is neither beautiful nor she can act she is overrated she has come up only because her first movie was with SRK which was given by Salman Khan and she just knows how to share her bed space with famous people in the showbiz so that she gets that movie of whichever script ahe likes thats how she is and dont you dare compare her with Kangana or Kareena or Priyanka at least. She doesnt even come to the level of their shoe dirt also she has no brains, beauty, personality, acting talent NOTHING and yeah unlike you I am not obsessed with this DIRT OF BOLLYWOOD. If she has openely said in front of public that she really wanted to sleep with Vin Desal even though her relationship with ranveer singh was public, she using him to stay in the news playing with him and his emotions and Ranveer Singh is himself nkt ready to understand then what more you want. She is a big liar and in almost all the intwrviews she doesnt answer as per the question she just blabbers something shit which is completely irrelavent to the question. She cant be compared to Kangana for one more thing that Kangana is here at the top completely because of her own self no Khan movies nothing she is at this top plainly because of her brilliant acting skills she has brains not a liar she is very beautiful has a personality and knows how to carry herself and Kareena and Priyanka is here with the same reason as Kangana but they had the suport of the Khans as well....
Kritika Well i don't want to get my head into thinking of all that shit that takes place and supposedly took place on her way of rise to this position, most of which may not have been actually false, but that she is overrated of late is what i am precisely saying. she does know abc's of acting "but" that's all about it. and yup, she can't be compared to those names that you mentioned, they r way above her. Don't get confused thinking I wrote it all to "support" her,may you please actually re-read what i've written lol :)
Kritika Meghrajani she shouldn't be compared with kareena and priyanka they're from a different league
@kritika megharajani, what are you getting out of this? Why spew so much hate?! And despite your very “kind” opinion, Deepika is the highest paid actress and 4th highest paid person in the entertainment industry(including sportspersons, actors, actresses, comedians, etc). She’s one of the first ones to do so in the industry. And what does her sex life have to do with anything...yes she has had relationships that doesn’t make her a whore....stop being so hateful, STOP BRINGING OTHER WOMEN DOWN! Let Kangana and Deepika co-exist. It’s 2019, be better!
Imtiaz Ali is one of my fav DIR but i don't like Deepika. Imtiaz should work with a better actress imo.
muthu ram as per what imtiaz himself said in this interview, deepika maybe the number one i bollywood for some but doesn;t matter to many more as they don;t think the same about her.
This movie Tamasha ,was so awful, so self indulgent, so vapid, so vulgar in its desire to be white and western that this guy should be banned from going near a camera. I genuinely hate this guy!
First half of " Tamasha" was well constructed. But Imtiaz completely lost the plot in the 2nd half. Even he didint know where story was going. He messed it up completely
Tamasha was a movie to be seen with a creative bent of mind. It was a movie that made you go out and achieve your passion - and that’s quite an achievement.
The way deepika seems in complete awe of imtiaz. It's lovely.
