- Check out 7 minutes of action-packed gameplay from Tribes 3: Rivals, an upcoming team-based first-person shooter game featuring jetpacks, skiing, and class-based warfare.
In Tribes 3: Rivals, layers ski, jetpack, battle, and race to capture the enemy team’s flag, all while ferociously defending their own. Players can choose from unique classes to customize their abilities, perks, and weapon loadouts, while moving across epic terrains from snow-covered peaks to haunting deserts.
Tribes 3: Rivals will be available on PC through Steam and Epic, with plans for a console release on PlayStation and Xbox at a later time. Limited playtests will take place over the next several months, starting in November 2023. NA and EU servers are expected to be available during the first playtest. - Ігри
Tribes 1 & 2 had games of 16v16 and 32v32 with large bases, large maps, and many vehicles. They were chaotic, fast-paced, and exciting. If that was possible >20 years ago then it'd be a shame if its revival were limited to a competitive 5v5 arena with minimalist bases and oversized explosion effects. The 5v5 comp scene is already filled with a variety of AAA titles.
Devs on the discord just confirmed that up to 32v32 will be available, but not during this round of testing this week.

You need big player base to do that, it's already a niche game, and there's not much hype or marketing behind it. Having smaller teams means less wait in matchmaking, and seems more feasible overall.
If there are only 10 vs. 10 Hanseln then it's just no fun.. then the game won't get any bigger or better known..@@mohammadalirashed3103
Tribes was so much more than skiing and shooting but that’s all that’s on display here. Generators, repairing, deploying inventory stations, vehicles, meaningful bases: these are what made tribes deep and interesting and so long lived. It’s just not only ski shooting!!!
Well of course! But this *is* a focused alpha play test, so we can hope that there’s more to come as the early play testing progresses

They also love putting the flags in drive thru lanes for easy pick up. You used to have to siege the base and extract the flag from the defenders. In Ascend it just became a game of keep away as the flag got taken so easily that you could barely score.
Ascend players in the comp scene often ruined the extra mechanics by disabling them, or teams would have an unspoken agreement to keep bases destroyed, so you couldn't engage with the mechanics if you want to. Bet this version strips those mechanics entirely.

This certainly looks alpha... but super promising. here's hoping these devs give it the love the franchise deserves and not just leave it for dead like Ascend.
Tribes 1 and 2 were my all time favorite games growing up.

ebic canned their plans to update ut3 and make free2play. they dont care about their past. fnite is all that matters
Epic did have a small team making UT4, but it never got enough traction and Fortnite happened. All that's left is the pre-alpha landing page holding on to the IP.
Nobody bothered to play it when they Did try to bring UT back.
The Tribes series were pioneers and way ahead of their time back then with the use of vehicles and super high PVP counts. This is in alpha stage and I'm already sold 🤘🏼

As someone who grew up playing Tribes 1 and 2, every Tribes game since has been a straight downgrade that showed that developers never understood the series beyond skiing and spinfusors.
Very very true. The first tribes was still the best. Everything after 2 was terrible. Really just need an updated engine for tribes 1 lol

Tribes 2 my all time favourite game. Wish they would make the physics similar to T1 or T2, this looks way too slow and the jetpack is drained too quick. I'm missing the verticality of the first 2 games, crazy speed and ski routes for capping. This looks more like Quake with a super jump. But it's alpha so who knows.

Green smoking cans were the most useful munitions in the game. After Spin Discs.
Agreed just update tribes 1 with modern graphics it had everything the tribes gameplay needed..
MDMs were the best launching your heavy with them then sniping with them while airborne
I've waited so long to hear from this series. Forgot the name and never found it again, glad it reemerged.
They tried to replicate Tribes, they never could. So it makes me so happy to see we might once again see populated servers. Hopefully they don't ruin it this time.

Katabatic. Jericho parked outside enemy base. Heavies supressing it with mortar fire. A cloaked player takes out the generator. A bomber comes in to take out the turrets. It's a go on teamspeak for the flag runner. Shazbot.
Tribes 2 was my favorite non-rpg on PC as a kid. So stoked for this.
did you play Midair? It wasn't as fun as Tribes ascend (IMO) but was apparently more similar to the older tribes games (Midair 2 releasing soon too)

Never played the originals so for someone with fresh eyes to the series this looks incredibly fun.
For being an alpha version, it already looks pretty solid! Hopefully, this will be a worthy successor of the originals.

This game will be way better than t2..t2 was not actually great at all. T1 was the best version of tribes. This will be what T2 should have been.

Wasn't it a piece of work? And the whole skiing thing was never deliberately implemented - players just discovered it and loved it so the devs didn't remove it.

Attention, everyone who is commenting who played Tribes 2: this is more Tribes: Ascend, the aspects of Tribes 2 you are nostalgic for aren't here. If Tribes: Ascend didn't work, it's because partly it did not try to replicate the depth of gameplay of Tribes 2 and aimed to compete with more modern movement shooters. Yes, Tribes has always had skiing and trickshots, but it had that *and* deployable equipment, vehicles like the MPB which meant you could change how the battle flowed across a map, bombers and fighters arcing across the sky - the maps on this are smaller and aimed at lower player numbers and more instant action, as opposed to the movement we had before; fast, but vehicles necessary on larger maps so you had to coordinate.
It's interesting how many people loved Tribes 1 and 2 but had no idea about Ascend because it dug so deep into the F2P model that everyone that heard about it turned into a shazbot and was lost to the void. Here's to not making the same mistakes again
Wait Tribes 1 is not Tribes Ascend ? I've only played Ascend as a kid and it was a one time experience fr, way ahead of their time

The whole reason snipers were balanced in T1/T2 is they gave up mobility. High mobility sniping looks unfair and unfun.
This looks cool. I'm an Unreal Tournament 2004 player. This is much better than the new shooting games today.

Big 32v32 gameplay? Vehicles? Defenses like shields and generators? Not one shazbot!? This is hopefully an early tech demo because it doesn't look much like the masterpiece that was Tribes yet.

Nice to see a FPS when you don't die to one hit from an enemy you can barely see. Nice wide open maps and considered shooting, but still pretty hectic.

Tribes is the best FPS hands down, the reason more people dont play it is because it takes a while to actually develop skill so most of them give up. This game will be the best version of tribes since T1 which was the best tribes ever.

You have to at least meet the standards of Tribes: Ascend if you want any kind of success here. 32v32 was phenomenal, and the extra vehicles, and map/base sizes were so much fun.

Love tribes but this will be a hard sell, even the best made arena shooters are a hard sell these days. Streamers and the younger audience don't want arena shooters and this will NEED a population to survive, just like outlaws..here's to hoping.
The thing im hoping for the most is for each class to have their HP pools still relatively close to each other. Lights and Mediums being able to take hits makes fights last longer on average and just makes engagements more interesting imho
No, there should be drawbacks to being fast. But heavies shouldn't be as tanky as they are.
