Great to see a new vid Shane. Cracking job on the camo scheme mate
Thanks Mark! 😁
Nice work on the camo scheme. Great result with the burnt effects. Lovely work all round
Cheers mate!
As always Shane, your narration is great, and helps us understand your thought processes and learn your approach and techniques. Thanks I would have liked to hear more on how you recovered from the hairspray failure. Wit a ruined finish, I would probably have just thrown the whole kit out!
Thankfully the reaction only caused minor cracking in the paint, so to recover it wasn't too hard. First I locked in the hairspray with a coat of clear to prevent any futurer reaction. Once dry I laid a very thin coat of dark yellow 2 which fixed everything
Thanks for this... Great work!
Outstanding work Shane! Your panther build is coming along very nicely. Your painting skills is awesome. The panther is my absolute favorite tank to build. I never tire of seeing professional builds. Definitely look forward to seeing the complete results! Cheers. ~ Rick
Cheers mate though I am no expert in this, I am very glad your enjoying the build! 😁
@@longlance67 as your time permits, could you please consider making a video with tips regarding working with photo etched parts.
@@RickJZ1973 I will if I get around to it, though Scott on the Small Soldier UA-cam channel has done a great photo etch video well worth checking out!
Great work, and nice save on the hairspray issue.
Cheers mate, was a bit of a pain but it didn't effect the final finish all that much thankfully
Great paint job my friend
Thank you! Cheers!
Excellent video mate.
Nice and fine paint job.
Keep on the fine work Shawn
Cheers mate
Nicely done Shane
Loved the Pink Panther! 😆
It makes for a nice change from the endless Stugs and Tigers...
Stressful when paint jobs go awry - well saved - Now go and find a darked corner and pint of Lfffey water!
Haha cheers mate I had an "oh shit" moment when I saw the paint react but I was not gonma scrub this build after so much work lol
It's nice work as usual. Also I'm looking forward to do weathering. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks mate! I am looking forward to start weathering process too
Fantastic camouflage there Shane on this Panther. Well done! So looking forward to the diorama and intrigued as to what it will look like. Keep up the good work!
Thanks mate, I hope to get working the final stages of this project soon, my. Laptop just died so I need to fix that first
Nice save! Hey, we all make mistakes but you turned that paint job around, looking promising 👍
Cheers mate
Looks amazing. Really great finish. Looking forward to next part!
Cheers mate!
Great vid. Really superb mix for the red brown! Would never have ever considered adding a flesh colour! Video was worth the wait :) The burning effects, wow.... Great stuff, dude
Cheers mate! Adding flesh shades into a mix to get subtle highlights is something I used a lot in figure painting but works just as good with armor too
Thats a lovely job Sir
Thanks very much
Shane.
Awesome job. Its coming along nicely especially like the choice on the late war green.
Good work.
Steve.
Thanks mate! The green is Tamiya's new dark green 2 thinned straight out of the bottle
Too bad about the hairspray chipping, I wonder what caused it? Anyway, a nice recovery... it's coming to life. Looking forward to the next part in the series. Cheers!
Cheers Scott! Ya I'm not sure what happened either but least I could save it thankfully
Hi Shane paint job looks amazing buddy you are doing a grand job on your panther. looking forward to your next video mate.
thanks mate! its a bit rough in places but I am pretty happy with as I am crap at doing German camo schemes lol looking forward to start weathering this bad boy now
Nicely done
Cheers!
Hey Shane, amazing video as always. I live for these videos they're almost hypnotic! Ive had some bad run in's with hairspray in the past with a similar thing, it began to wrinkle under the paint. I attributed it to grease or oil from my hands on the model but this is interesting and noted about the double layers reacting
Ya I've not had much experience with hairspray methods before so I can't say for sure what caused the reaction it could be the reasons you mentioned or paint that wasn't fully dry or cheap ingredients in the spray itself, I will have to do some more off camera tests to figure out what happened
Nice ich baue den Panther Ausf.G von Takom. Schönes Video 😉👍
Hey Shane! I was really looking forward to this one :) it's a shame the HS didn't work out well for you; I'm not really sure what happened but I am glad you managed to push through and end up with a beautiful camouflage! I certainly think the pattern looks great and the colours are spot on to my eye. We all think we're much worse at camo than we actually are I guess :) your burnt effects also look very natural. I will come back to this as I have a knocked out Panzer in the works at the moment.
Cheers Ev! I'm not sure what happened either it might to down to the cheap ass spray I used or I put the coats down too heavily, I will have to figure it out with some tests on some scrap plastic to see what happens.
Looking forward to seeing how you approach doing battle damage in the future
You've come a long way from your earliest videos. In fact, a bunch of you guys have done quite well. This was a great addition to your catalog. Keep up the good work. Model on, Sir.
Thanks Russ! The channel has really grown into a great little community never thought for a moment when I started that so many awesome people would give it their support and make it what it has become!
You've picked on a really key point hane: these were brand new vehicles. The number of times I see over-weathered late war vehicles.... :)
Ya people seem to go for almost an apocalyptic look for their late war vehicles, though the end of war in Europe in some ways was as the place was left in ruins but when it comes to vehicles rolling off the production lines in 1944 they were only in use for a few months when you think about
yeah but really who cares - weathering makes model interesting and more real, clean brand new model vehicle looks like a toy .
@@handznet it's really down personal taste and normally I would agree it doesn't matter all that much, though in this case I am trying to faithfully recreate an actual vehicle to the best of my ability so the weathering must reflect the picture and the research in this particular case
nice paint work.
Glad you like it
Well done Shane , you skills amd techniques are excellent , the process was different than i expected , i really did enjoy this video though mate ....cheers !!!
Perhaps as a suggestion , when i prime the kit, NATO black or Citadel chaos black ....shadow effect , then
A light coat of red primer , then your chipping effect layer , base coat of armor yellow , as a base , thrn green, red brown, then chip?
Or as i discovered I believe AK has a washable additive to paint , so you can do the same effect as chipping, as it applies .
Not that your painting was flawed buddy.
Your work was superb , really the build and execution of your three tone german camo was fantastic.
This was a great demo video for these techs you applied Shane.
Really great!!!
I cant wait to see it come together as a dio!!!!
Outstanding !!!
The burn effects i loved , burnt iron, masterfully applied
Really looking forward to more Shane
Brilliant!!!!!
Rock on!!!!
Cheers mate, some solid ideas to test out there
"dog dinner" I'm still laughing ... I didn't know that expression! Very good... 🤣🤣
It most be a saying mostly found here in Ireland lol
@@longlance67 here in Portugal we say: "that looks a dog's nest" almost the same thing. Always a mess 🤣
@@alexandrenogueira5378 very similar indeed, its always very interesting to see how similar sayings are
@@longlance67 Dog's dinner/dog's breakfast is a very common saying in Australia. Just heard it a few hours ago on the telly.
Looking good..
Thank you
Class , Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks great Shane. Wonder why the hairspray did that? Makes me nervous thank goodness you could save it.😁
Not sure what cuaed it, I am little weary of using it in future projects
Looking good
Thanks mate
Looks great!
Thank you!
Can you please put a list with the additional parts from this build, that will be very helpful.
Fruil Model Tracks
Eduard Photo etch update set
Eduard Photo etch side skirts
Eureka tow cables
Aber metal barrel
Episode 2 onwards covers the construction in detail
How did you research the burnt effects? Overall very nicely done Shane.
There are a few original color photos of knocked out Panzers floating around and also checking out photos from slightly later conflicts before composite armor was used on tanks so I studied a few knocked out tanks from 1950s era too
Shane, did you spray the primer from the can, or decant it into your airbrush? Really good video 👍
I sprayed it straight from the can about 8 inches from the model
Shane Smyth - scale models thanks for the reply!
German armor road wheels...one of the biggest reasons I build American armor...😆
That looks good my friend. This is going to look fantastic when its done.
It's does make me remember why I love the Sherman so much lol
I have a technical question that you may be able to answer. I'm doing a nostalgia build of Tamiya's Panther A. I'm trying to church it up with photo etch zimmerit and PE detail parts. My question is, can I use Tamiya's Panther G road wheels to replace the inaccurate original ones?
sorry for the late reply being having technical issues till now, unfortunately a proper answer for your question is beyond my paygrade sorry
That's ok. Thanks!
What happend ? Me and I gues others waiting for part six regards
its in the works be patient my friend
Finally!
Better late than never
What's blue tac? Does it have a brand name?
It's poster tac, blu tac is a brand name here
@@longlance67 ok. Thanks. I'll look around for it here. I'm learning a lot by watching your videos. Especially bending photo etch.
Hi , I live a Canada and I am fairly new to modelling. I couldn’t find blu tac locally but was able to buy a three packs off of Amazon. I was not disappointed, found it worked great!
👍👍👍👏👏👏👏♥️🇨🇦😎
If it helps later on. Late war German camo from factory especially on panthers was 40% green, 40% brown, and 20%yellow. And in 45 the yellow was even a lower %. Add in the fact that factories had their own schemes changes it up. You can tell where they came from by schemes and where the German cross would be on the hull.
very handy insight thank you! it will prove useful in later projects
Another excellent video Shane. Had my first crack at the airbrushing today on a Tamiya Panther. Not too bad and have primer and first coat of Dark yellow down. This video is a God send for someone like me. Nowhere near your level but great guide and useful advice.
Awesome! Airbrushing really changes the game and it really makes painting and weathering even more enjoyable I've found
Very impressive! You may think you are not too competent when it comes to German camo patterns, but this is not true when we look at this Panther here. Very well done mate :) Also, i agree on the hairspray chipping. Tried that myself as well recently and it somewhat worked, but i wasn´t really overly impressed by it, given all the extra issues you get all along the way, caused by the reactionary nature of the hairspray. I guess it is all about experience or using a different type of spray, but it put me off anyway.
Cheers Michi!
I kinda on the fence about hairspray method going into the future, I've seen the great results Evan and others get using this method in their own builds. Though I kinda half to agree with you, I am unsure if its worth all effort especially if it can backfire
Great work as usual Shane take care my friend 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏✌️🐑😁😂
Cheers mate glad you liked it!
Hey Shane, do you think you will ever do more ww2 German Waffen ss uniform tutorials? Like auttum oak leaf, etc,.? Thanks, I just got the Vallejo paint set, and I would love more tutorials!
thanks bud! funny you should mention it, I am currently editing an Oak Leaf Camo tutorial as we speak! hope to have it live in the next week or so!
@@longlance67 Yay! Looking forward to it, it will (hopefully) [ almost positively] be helpful on my Normandy dio that I’m making.
Great vid mate. I'm about to top coat my Tamiya Panther and wanted to do the three colour camo, more for practise than authenticity as it is my first armour model in over 40 years and I've only ever used an airbrush to put the red oxide primer on this tank. I tried the pre-shading as well but I think I buried most of it under the primer. I wanted to try the hairspray chipping, oil dot filter and pin wash on the cheapest 1/35th tank in Hobbycraft before I commit to buggering up the 1/16th Tiger.
Thanks mate, really glad to be of help! I think you got the right approach with your project by practicing and experimenting with a cheaper kit that you don't mind risking
Super job, Shane.....nothing wrong with the way you did the camo scheme....looks pretty snazzy! Like your commentary as well....lots of great ideas. Will be looking forward to seeing the diorama when it eventuates.
thanks very much mate, hope to get this build wrapped up soon!
Nice work! I really like it!
Cheers mate
Excellent work Shane - I must try using the Tamiya Lacquer rather than X20 - What do you think are the main differences?
it behaves far better with the lacquer thinner, smooths out far nicer with less pooling and seems allow far finer spray patterns over the X20
@@longlance67 Many thanks for the reply
Great to see all the work you put into this project, Shane. A quick question about the painting. As you know I am also painting this Panther. With the camouflage painting, I have both Vallejo and AK Real Colors (lacquer) paints. Any preference from your perspective/experience? With all your videos I know you use Vallejo a fair bit, and with this you used Tamiya lacquers. Edit: I just realised that you used Tamiya acrylics on this model. Oh well, my mistake. As always cheers from Oz.
I went for Tamiya acrylics thinned with lacquer thinner, using their new(ish) German camo colors. I find Tamiya colors a little more accurate than vallejo when it comes to German colors. However the new AK Interactive Gen3 acrylics are very good too
@@longlance67 Thank you for that. I decided to go with the AK lacquer paints for the reason you mentioned. Plus I feel with all the weathering I will be doing I would prefer a tougher paint.
@@longlance67 As a second comment, inspired by your good self, I decided to lash out and purchase a set of oils from Abteilung 502. This Panther will be the first time ever using oils. Lots of new techniques on this one! 👍🏻
I’m waiting on my first 1/35 scale tank to arrive in the mail. I went T-26 since I run that in WoT. Great vid!
Nice choice! Have fun with it!
*Well done Shane, you burnt Panther ( 😥 ) is really a success, i'll enjoy the next episode quickly i hope!*
Cheers next episode will be started in the near future
Great work. Love how this is turning out.
Cheers mate
Der Shane,my Uncle was a Werksmeister , means Supervisor at M.N.H. Hannover. He told me,the colores have never changed, since 1943.Their was no late war colors.
It was only RAL colores. The Tones are never changed.Their is no late war Dunkelgelb.Or Oliv or so.
Dunkelgelb was every the same, untill 1945.The standarts are the same. Also Oliver and Rust Cover.
top job shane
Cheer mate!
Hi Shane, did you finished the Panther Diorama yet? I am very interested in this project and only find five videos of the Panther 126.
No not yet, I am working on the next part of the project should have it up in the coming weeks
OK thanks for the Feedback. I have an eye in the Project.
@@gordonbaut2785 this part will be the most involved episode with the full weathering and final assembly so it will take time, also I recently hurt my back so it has made being at bench very difficult
@@longlance67 Hi Shane, hope it goes netter and you are fine now!
Absolutely love your camo👍
Thanks mate glad you like it! I struggle with German camo a lot, trying to get the pattern to work together has given me trouble, but I think this Panther might be my favorite attempt so far!
@@longlance67 I have exactly the same problem, never seems to look right no matter how many times I attempt it.
Maybe i'll just shamelessly copy yours😁
@@erickirwan8703 Hahaha go for it mate! 😀
Yes! This is the video I've been waiting for a long time! Great paintwork, Shane, the Panther is amazing!
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed it
Great job.I used to do pre shading but did not notice any difference when base coat applied. What am I doing wrong?
You need to lay your paint down super thin in several layers in that way you can see the darker shade showing through the paint
Your modelling skills AND your videos are second to none Shane. It is so easy to learn new skills from watching your videos. I learnt how to apply decals from another of your videos so you do a great service to us all. Thank you 😊
Thank you very much for the kind words its means a lot that you guys find them helpful and enjoyable! :)
@@longlance67 I could not agree with David more-your explanations are so clear and no-nonsense. And your skills speak for themselves.
I'm good at making german camo. I'm not going to tell you how to do it, after all. It's your model. And if you are happy with it, that is what I think is most important.
I think it's passable
