    I was overzealous, in chasing power loss possibilities in my Johnson 15, and took my pump apart without paying attention to orientation.
    Thank you, so very much, for this video. You helped me, greatly.

      Really dumbed down. If someone needs to be shown how to remove a cowling, they have no business rebuilding a fuel pump.

      @@dbobocNow there's a first. Saying that a how-to-do tutorial video is too dumbed-down. Knowing that all ages from an experience to beginner will be watching, this is represented excellent. Teacher showing great detail.
      Majority of everything is junk. Poorly made holding together with fragile clips purposely made so the individual trying to save a few bucks fails. This detailed video will prevent any mishaps.
      No unnecessary questions needed as everything answered.
      Only one unnecessary dumb comment followed by a sarcastic response. 😘

    Thank you for slowly showing the OEM part numbers, kit contents and mentioning (warning us about) the "Gotchas" of the rebuild
    I'm grateful for the UA-cam videos, even the quickly done ones that are not as thorough as yours, as I'm not able to find a Johnson/Evinrude repair technician in the Bay Area. Have to do it myself.

    Thanks a million... I watched your video of the carb rebuild, then started working on the motor... decided to take off the fuel pump - dang - should have watched this video first! (because I took all 4 screws out while on the motor!) Will have to see tomorrow if I got the pump assembled correctly... but at least I have your video to refer to!

    Very well narrated! Wish this video existed when I rebuilt the fuel pump on a 1982 Evinrude 15 hp in 2017. The balancing of that little spring gave me fits!

    Wonderful video. I would’ve been lost without it. However, I noticed that when putting on the final metal plate with the “U”, the orientation changes from 19:19 when you show the finished assembly to when you install it on the motor at 19:36. I originally had it installed like it was at 19:19 but then switched it to how you have it on the motor because this seems correct. Just an FYI for you and anyone else using this video to get the correct orientation that this minute detail was not acknowledged. Thanks!

    Your videos have helped me rebuild my new to me 89 evinrude 15hp. Easiest videos to follow and best helpful tips and details! Thank you for saving me $$$ by being able to do it because of your help. This motor is the first motor of any type I have ever worked on and have been able to do it with confidence due to your videos. I cannot thank you enough for the great videos!

    They do the 1/2 circle on the plastic screen outlet so you can use a quarter (you know, back in the day when everyone carried change) to unscrew it.

    Absolutely great video. Thank you very much. Just rebuilt my fuel pump. Question. I squeeze the bulb and I cannot seem to eliminate all the air bubbles out of the line. The bulb gets rock hard and stays rock hard when engine is running. Could it be a defective bulb? Any other causes for the air bubbles?

    • @wetshoesmechanic
      @wetshoesmechanic  7 місяців тому

      If you’re having trouble with air getting into your fuel line, I would check your connection points at the fuel tank, and at the engine, mainly the O-ring in the fitting. If your fuel lines, or bulb are old and weathered, I would replace them. Even a small compromise in your fuel line could introduce air into the system. Question though, how do you know you have air bubbles in your fuel line? What are the symptoms?

    The reason that the very outside fuel cover screw on the fuel pump is designed that way, so if you don't have a screwdriver or pliers handy, you can open it with a dime if you would happen to have it on your person.

    Engine dying when put in gear?
    Pump or carbie?

    • @wetshoesmechanic
      @wetshoesmechanic  7 місяців тому

      I would start with the carburetor. Rotate your slow speed needle valve clockwise until it seats. Do not force it. Once it seats rotate it counterclockwise 1.5 turns and try that. You may have to fine-tune it after that, but that should allow it to run at least. Make sure the idle adjustment screw on the side of the motor is turned up high enough to allow it to idle at a reasonable RPM. If after all of that, you suspect fuel delivery problem, I would verify that your fuel line is in good shape and flowing fuel freely to the fuel pump. Also, make sure that the vent in your fuel tank is working properly. If needed, after all of that, I would throw in a carb rebuild kit, and plan on doing your fuel pump also. Keep in mind there are other considerations that could be a problem. These are the simplest things to fix, but there is also throttle linkage timing, reed valves, cylinder compression, and making sure the gearbox is free to move to consider also.

    As always, you produced a good video! In regards to your Quick tip for testing, blowing on the fuel intake side does not produce the sound included in the video. Neither does blowing in the output side. I am assuming that this means the assembly is defective if it does not produce the noise?

    • @wetshoesmechanic
      @wetshoesmechanic  3 роки тому

      I was mostly using the noise as a reference to being able to blow through it. You should be able to blow through it with minimal restriction, if you try to blow through it and you can’t push any air through it, it would suggest that it is assembled incorrectly or somethings blocking it internally.

    Thank you great petrol pump assembly video. My problem was very dry gasket, first gasket under "flat coin" screw. Sprayed silicone oil to wet gasget. Did also clever blowing test to petrol hoses. Lost spring ( jumped somewhere in garage ) but bought new spring.
    Test: ua-cam.com/video/hX6rfJoJFp8/v-deo.html and 1970 evinrude started easily. And no petrol leak from petrol pump.
    Should be cooling pee water visible ? Or impeller water coming from many small holes?

      50-50 if the $10 Amazon/eBay fuel pump doesn’t disintegrate all the soft components when gasoline is introduced to it.

      @@wetshoesmechanic I use them all the time. Never had an issue. Never had anyone bring a motor back for a faulty fuel pump either. Be nice if the Chinese built new carbs for these engines.

    • @raymondmatelli1704
      @raymondmatelli1704 2 роки тому

      Do your Chinese fuel pumps pass the blow test? The one I ordered on Amazon can be blown into from both holes and does not make the kazoo noise. While my original does? Maybe I’ll just pull the gaskets off and fit it on to my original if it needs it? Thought?
