  • Foreigner’s Kelly Hansen Blasts Other Rock Bands For Not being Real! #foreigner #kellyhansen
    Hey everyone!
Yes it’s true Foreigner’s singer Kelly Hansen is back in the news!
This time he gas a whole lot to say about being ‘REAL’! And in tonight’s video we’ll discuss Kelly Hanson’s criticism of other bands who he sees as ‘not real’ due to performing with backing tracks at their live concerts, or just playing badly because they are just to old to perform like they use to.
And finally we’ll discuss whether Kelly Hansen is ‘REAL’ or not!
Should Foreigner’s Kelly Hansen even have an opinion on the matter? Has he finally gone too far? Or is this just another ploy to remind us that he’s actually in Foreigner?
Well, all these and many more questions are addressed in tonight’s video!
And as usual if you enjoy tonight;s video, please consider giving it a Thumbs-Up as that helps the UA-cam algorithm better identify the channel to a larger audience!

So what he’s saying is, “You might think we’re impostors, and we are, but at least we know how to play live.” Dude, you’re being paid to sound like someone else. I would hope that Mick Jones has the wherewithal to employ hired guns with talent. Kelly, this is not your fight. Finish the tour, get your money, move on to the next project.

The irony is that Foreigner uses prerecorded background vocals.

He was referring to 2. He also mentioned bands with backing tracks, and pitch correction, He said we might make mistakes but we are actually playing what you hear. After watching Lou's recent videos, frankly I would rather hear the singer that hits the notes. He put on a great show, hit the high notes, performed well. It was worth the tickets.

I've always felt that without the absolutely singular vocals of Lou Gramm, who is in my top five of ALL TIME, as far as rock vocalists go, there simply is no Foreigner. It's like Bad Company without Paul Rodgers, Boston without Brad Delp or Doobie Brothers without Tom Johnston - there's a smoking hole where those front men should be standing!

    • @Thomasmemoryscentral
      @Thomasmemoryscentral Рік тому +1

Except Tom Johnston is actually currently in The Doobie Brothers and is Michael McDonald enough of a Doobie Brother to consider in your eyes part of the lineup?

    • @treff9226
      @treff9226 Рік тому

@@Thomasmemoryscentral Yeah, I dig Michael McDonald's vocals, but was a fan of the Doobies from the very beginning, so the true Doobie Bros. material includes Tom Johnston, that takes precedent over the later, more laid back and polished songwriting from McDonald days. It's tricky, though, because I do like and connect with a lot of that McDonald period of music. Damn glad Tom came back and took his rightful place as main vocalist for them, such a unique tone to his singing, a lot of soul in his voice, especially coming from a white man! Doobie Brothers need to rock out, and without Johnston leading them, they lose a lot of edge. All in all, it's a rare situation for a band, when a new singer comes on board, the sonics of the band change considerably, and yet they are hugely successful with both! Good question, and take care! By the way, if you're a big fan of the Doobies, and you haven't heard their most current stuff, it's excellent! Get those albums, the latest of which is a live album that really has the band firing on all cylinders - just outstanding in every way!

What gets me is that Kelly is up there, with the big "Foreigner 4" sign behind him, no doubt playing some of Foreigner's great songs off that album and MOST of the crowd thinks the band they are watching made that album.
It's a cover band playing Foreigner music. You can see that at many local watering holes where cover bands play classic rock. And truth be told, the little local cover bands probably do a better job and aren't trying to fool anyone.
People are gullible and as long as gullible people pay big bucks for fake bands then fake bands will keep using the names of real bands to tour with.
Honestly, I'd rather see a classic rock band with original members and singers playing and maybe throwing in some prerecorded tracks before I'd EVER see a cover band using a real band's name.
    But I don't see either.

With the departure of Mick, due to his health, Foreigner is now a tribute band. No originals members, or members that have recorded a Foreigner album.. I do appreciate the musicianship, and true live performance of these current members, and I have been personal friends with one of them for a while now, but it is still just a tribute band. I would still rather see Lou Gram, and even Steve Perry, obviously not in the same form they were when they were younger, but you can't replace that tone.. I am still impressed by Mickey Thomas, who is in his 70's and still sounds great.!

I agree, Foreigner with less than 1 original member should be considered a tribute band( Mick Jones hardly ever present).
I think It would be good to have a protocol based on the honor system (mongst bands and musicians) that states: At least 51% of original band members need to be present, otherwise we are a tribute band. A band like KISS with the foundation of Paul and Gene can still can proudly call themselves KISS due to both being actual founders of the band.
Lip syncing is a separate issue, and artists that do so should fess up to this, so paying customers can decide if they want to attend the live show. Apparently, many of the fans especially millennials and later are ok with shows being mimed on stage. In retrospect, this no longer surprised me when noticing kids and young adults utilizing their smart phone as the primary listening device, vs a true amplified sound system. Just one persons opinion.. Thanks

Hey Michael, I don't know if you ever got the chance to listen to Shadow King? They were a supergroup formed by ex-Foreigner vocalist Lou Gramm after meeting former Sweet Savage, Dio, and Riverdogs guitarist Vivian Campbell, and rounded out by Gramm's longtime writing partner Bruce Turgon on bass and ex-Breathless, Donnie Iris And The Cruisers, Harlow, and The Godz drummer Kevin Valentine.
The band released their self-titled 10 track record on October 1st, 1991 with multi-Platinum producer Keith Olsen (Whitesnake, Heart, Ozzy Osbourne, Emerson, Lake & Palmer) sitting behind the control boards.
Both Shadow King and Foreigner were signed to Atlantic records, but there was tension between Lou Gramm and Mick Jones. In short, Shadow King's lifespan was cut short due to record label politics. Atlantic refused to promote them, and the band faded into oblivion.
Shadow King only put out that one album, but it absolutely rocks, so check it out (if you haven't already)!

Saw “Foreigner” in Irvine, California last week. Yes, the band is comprised of talented musicians but they are simply a cover band if no original members are there. (Mick Jones was a No Show.)
Meanwhile the opening band, Loverboy, was not only PHENOMENAL but all of the living original members are still in the band (4 of the 5). Their original bassist died in 2000 and was replaced by a guy who is still there 23 years later.
Why a band with nearly all original members is the OPENING ACT and a group of musicians who had nothing to do with any Foreigner hits was the headliner is a mystery to me. 🤷‍♂️

i don't know. i just saw where beyonce is charging $157 to sit behind the stage seeing none of the show. never a foreigner fan but if i wanted to see them i would expect to see the band who played what i heard on the radio.. some bands have had a variety of members. but if they say live and as in motley crue are not why pay to see them. well you are in a crowd and you can watch them. at the price if i were a fan would not. but people are easily pleased. have seen videos of bruce dickinson singing acapella at bruce dickinson evenings and there is another of him in a limo with just a guitar singing and another at an raf show with an iron maiden tribute band. doubt any pop stars with their autotuning and such being able to do that and probably not many rock bands who once played live. i agree with what you said. last i saw rolling stone, is it still around they did not seem to cover rock at all. guess the owner wants to be trendy or whatever.

Compared to Little River Band which currently is only full of a bunch of newbies not ever associated in the classic days who’s name is bought by a man that never played in the original band, Mick Jones barely showing up as the 1 original member only keeps it a step above that.

Part of the problem: over 20 years or more passed since the original members bowed out. Also, was a band like Foreigner plastered all over the culture recognizable? No, they were familiarized with their hot catchy tunes. Jones probably heard some enterprenuer run this sketchy idea by him @2004 and figured what the hell? Longtime fans disappointed to learn no participation by Fred Turner, nor Blair Thornton. Disturbingly, Randy is seemingly taking advantage of publicity generated by the recent passing of his brothers: Robin & Tim. Both of whom were original members.

Hello Michael Noland, This is one topic that has had me fired up for quite a few years now. I think it was 2014 or so I saw this lame version of Foreigner. They really sucked in my opinion. Also, just as Michael mentioned, there was zero original members at that show. I heard later that Mick Jones wasn't feeling well and that's why he wasn't there. But, during there entire performance they made no mention of Mick. Why you ask?? Because the crowd didn't even know anything about the original members! Most of the crowd probably didn't even know that the original singer was replaced with this jack ass named Kelly. They have huge size balls asking the huge amount for tickets that they do. I've said it for years now that they are nothing more then a tribute band at best. I saw the original Foreigner in 1979 and again like a year later.. They killed it!! I also saw Lou Gramm about ten or so years back and he kicked ass!! Seeing him was more like seeing Foreigner then the crapy version out now days! Lou was the heart of the band. Hang it up Kelly. And retire Mick!! Your way past due....

Being charitable those people who attend will know the players and accept that these guys were not responsible for the brand / legacy. These concert attendees make a choice so in that regard i don't see a problem. The purists will probably stay away. Of course one can say these players are benefitting from the artistic and creativity of others and therefore lining their pockets accordingly so maybe there is a moral issue to consider? In addition (i'm not up to speed on this band) but has this line-up made any records? If so there maybe some credibility but if not then again the moral question arises. Also one needs to consider the personalities. The larger than life artists like your beloved Jimmy Page could never be replaced in Zeppelin. Same applies to Jagger but Lou Gramm and Mick Jones are not that larger than life characters so maybe are easier to replace? However using the word 'tribute' will have dire financial consequences although i entirely agree that this band is indeed just that...a tribute band if they have not recorded original material.

Great video and subject!. Let me start by saying Kelly doesn't even use his own style of his true original voice, he's totally imitating Lou Gramm. Look, one can imitate but one cannot be the original, who by their own nature sounded the way they did and created the vocal style that we all love. Kelly needs to get back to earth and stop thinking he's Lou. As a final thought, Ringo went to see the original line up of Beatlemania the Tribute show, which included an amazing McCartney look alike and sound alike named "Mitch Weissman", I saw him live in those days, and he was incredible, but I digress, Ringo went backstage after the show to meet him, and was quoted to say "But I know the real Paul". Keely get off your delusional high horse.

I think that he is right. They are a real band and play everything live without backing tracks, The guy has been in the band for 18 years, so I think that he has some right to speak out about bands that aren't producing true live music. People act as if this is some new, fresh version of the band. Foreigner has been basically a revolving door of players since around 1981. Gramm left at least twice. Numerous different lead singers, drummers, bassists, keyboards, etc, throughout the years. So, if you get right down to it, they haven't been the original Foreigner for over forty years. Say what you will, but some of these 'new' members have been in the band as long or longer than Gramm and most of the original members. A number of original members have joined the present band on stage over the years, so it is safe to say that they have no problem with the current line-up.

Foreigner's debut album was in May '77 when I turned 20. Their first 4 albums (77-'81) were tremendous. Mick Jones orchestrated/created a brilliant group. He also destroyed Foreigner in 1984 with 'I Want to Know What Love Is", the gospel/crybaby song that was their biggest hit. It came at a terrible price of permanently turning off their original fans, never getting them back, and has been a shadow of its former self for nearly 40 years. Jones turned Foreigner into Journey, a band to whom "I Want To Know..." would have been a perfect song. I detest that song, but had it been BY Journey, could have accepted it as "That's Journey for ya." I personally know a Foreigner tribute band that will not sing that, or will play just a tiny bit in a mocking, wink wink manner, then move immediately back to the early music which is still great.
Not knocking this guy Kelly Hansen, but Foreigner now is a bad parody of itself. The tribute bands acknowledge that up front. Lou Gramm will always be the quintessential voice of Foreigner. He's had a lot of physical problems, seems frail, and shouldn't be expected to do what he really can't anymore. Foreigner died many years ago like Rolling Stone, and am sorry to hear Mick Jones is still living. What ever touring they've got left and are obligated to do now, needs to be the end.

I agree 100%. Just saw “Foreigner” last week and, of course, “I Want To Know…” was their encore number. 🙄
I also saw Lou Gramm solo two years ago and he was a BILLION TIMES BETTER than this so-called “Foreigner” group who’s touring now.
And Lou did ZERO slow songs! Only the upbeat hard rockers that old school Foreigner fans like you and I grew up with.
Lou also did a free Meet & Greet with the fans afterwards and could not have been nicer. What a legend.
