Katherine from Pollen Nation demonstrates how to make an easy fresh floral backdrop. This piece is great for weddings or any special event inside a home and can be used for
___
Step 1 Materials:
You will need a nice long branch foraged from outside, material from thrift store, 50 carnations, fishing wire, clear tape and thick sewing needle.
Step 2
Come up with a loose idea of the overall look you are going for. Should the fabric be balanced or asymmetrical and how many lines of floral you would like. This may change as you place it all together and move through the project!
Pro tip: Roses, spray roses and carnations are going to work best for floral being out of water for so long.
Step #3
Cut the tops off each carnation getting as close to the head as possible.
Pro tip: open each flower head by pulling the petals down and out making the flower twice as big as its usual size!
Step #4:
Cut your fishing line to the length you would like it to hang. Place tape at one end of the fishing line.
Step #5
With the needle attached to the other end of the line, go through the centre of the flower and lace all the flowers onto the fishing line.
Step #6
Lay the line down on the table and place the flowers where you would like along the line. Then take a small piece of tape at the base of each flower so it will not slide when you hang the string up.
Protip: Do not aim to be symmetrical in length but rather more random when you space the carnations apart.
Step #6
Hang the string onto the branch and repeat steps until complete.
Finally, use hooks or wire/string to place above an entrance way or simply hang it on a wall for a backdrop.

How long will the carnations last after being cut?
I’m wondering the same thing. Anyone get an answer. Will it last overnight at least?
Will they continue blooming after being cut?
No! Unfortunately they won’t.
