Very happy that Ratos de Porão made it to this list. They hardly get any love outside Brazilian borders these days because they sing in Portuguese
I've interviewed the band once. :) cool guys. Cheers!
Nao entendi nada mas ratos de porão é foda
@@RuthlessMetalYT hey, look up and listen to an 80’s “ thrash/ punk band called Cremator - Evil Brew. Pretty sure can be found on you tube.
RDP love from Sweden!
I love RDP! Rsp é foda !!
1. Ratos de Porao
2. Uncle Slam
3. SOD
4. Suicidal Tendencies
5. Nuclear Assault
Cheers to All from Australia
Great list. Uncle Slam are awesome. Say Uncle and Will Work For Food are great albums.
Rocky George is a severally underappreciated guitar player. He needs more love from the community imo.
That is true, he is great!
An amazing player who's sadly missing from the spotlights nowadays.
Rocky George is one of my favorite guitar players. How Will I Laugh Tomorrow... is a metal masterpiece. I actually like that album MORE as the years go by. He is still playing. He is in the latest Harley Flannigan incarnation of the Cro Mags.
I met him once, he was very cool, don't ask Mike Muir why he left Suicidal Tendencies, he will bite your head off
@@teutonicresistancetv6445 so why did he leave suicidal
In the 80s I was a Hardcore kid interested in fast music, skateboarding, just starting to be familiarized with some Metal music and the Crossover sound of both styles made me crazy on that time. Now at 50 years old I still listen to this a lot! My top 10 albums are:
1 - Convicted (Cryptic Slaughter)
2 - Animosity (COC)
3 - American Paranoia (Attitude Adjustment)
4 - Raw Power - Screams From The Gutter
5 - Lobotomia (Lobotomia)
6 - Crossover (DRI)
7 - Absolut Country Of Sweden (Anti Cimex)
8 - The Return Of Martha... (Accused)
9 - Brasil (RDP)
10 - Now That I Have... (Septic Death)
good shit!
Dude, 45 here and still listen to alot of the same stuff. Nuclear Assault and Suicidal were my go to bands when getting stoked to skate
Great to see Ratos included…a huge influence on Sepultura.
Cheers!
@Wylie Wildt Damn!!!?Lol
D.R.I. and Cryptic Slaughter will be my all time favorite bands of this genre, because my father had all their stuff. I raised with this bands!!!
hehe, awesome. the new generation is here.
D. R. I. 86, Cryptic Slaughter 86, Voivod 86, Slayer 86, Celtic Frost 85!!!
Hell yes! Cryptic Slaughter, the Accused, DRI, C.O.C, Suicidal Tendencies, and SOD!!!! The Accused should totally be on this list along with Cryptic Slaughter. 🤘🏽👹🤘🏽
'Speak English or Die' still is among my all time favorites and still regularly playing on (of course) vinyl.🤘😎
Another less known crossover album I did like back in the day is 'The Evil in Good' by Mace.
(And maybe not really crossover but crustcore/hardcore punk, to me they are: Sweden's Driller Killer and their album 'F*** the World' & The Exploited's 'The Massacre'.)
Hell Yea!!! I think so too.🤘🏾😊💯
I’ve been on a huge crossover kick lately … Crumbsuckers, Excel, Ludichrist, Leeway, later Gang Green, Cro-Mags … so many slamming albums
and the best one of all. d.r.i
@@kevinmitchell4018 Totally Agree. D.R.I are the BEST!
Have you listened to RKL? I think you'll like them.
Back when coc were great!
LEEWAY!!!!!! my best friend got a video with Eddie telling me to go fuck myself for missing the show, best thing ever.
Great to see SOD at number 1 spot. Such an iconic album. Cool list, too. Metal forever! 👊🏻🤘🏻
Cheers!🤘🏻
Oh gosh that’s cool
I absolutely love Suicidal Tendencies!! Tremendously underrated band. They should carry the status like The Misfits. For a brief moment in the late 80’s and early 90’s they got their due. Mike Muir Forever! 🤘
You wouldn’t know what crazy was if Charles Manson was eating fruit loops on your front porch
@@johngillespie3409 personally no one can touch the original Suicidal version.
@@leahcimnamttug7186 hello Mr. Troll
I don’t know how that is “trolling”, those are ST lyrics from STs most widely known track. I wouldn’t consider them under rated, they are huge, they play stadiums and festivals to 10,000+ people regularly.
Crossover is WAY better than "metal thrash". Suicidal, DRI, Crumbsuckers, Excel, Beowülf, Accused, Cryptic Slaughter (I can't believe he didn't mentioned it)
Here’s my top 10 (one album per artist, in random order):
Crumbsuckers - Life of Dreams
Ratos de Porao - Brasil
Suicidal Tendencies - Lights…Camera…Revolution
Wehrmacht - Shark Attack
Nuclear Assault - Handle With Care
Sod - Speak English or Die
Mod - U.S.A for M.O.D.
Merauder - Master Killer
Mucky Pup - Can’t you take a Joke?
Cro-Mags - The Age of Quarrel
Thank to mention Mucky Pup my fav underrated crossover band
Agnostic Front - Cause For Alarm
That's what I said it is a fuckin awesome! Classic. In my opinion it probably is the greatest crossover album ever released. I got it when it was first released. And it blew me away. And I still love it till this day.\m/
Cheers!
Wow! So good to see Ratos de Porão on your list, man! I'm from Brazil, and this guys its one of my favorite bands of all time. Excelent list, love all bands on it. Cheers!
Cheers!
As a major crossover enjoyer, this pleases my pickle. My absolute top 5 is as follows:
1: Carnivore - Retaliation
2: Agnostic Front - Cause for Alarm
3: Birth A.D. - I Blame You
4: S.O.D. - Speak English or Die
5: The Accused - The Return of Martha Splatterhead
I gotta give some honourable mentions to Sudden Impact - No Rest for the Wicked, Attitude Adjustment - American Paranoia, Raw Power - Screams from the Gutter, and Mr. Bungle - The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny
OH MARTHA!!!
Carnivore also my number one. And your number 2 and 5 would also be in my top 10.
Yes, Accused is insane! "The return of Martha" is much more punk than metal, the best kind! I'm surprised no one mentioned Beowulf, they had sort of a unique mix of speed metal and 80s skate punk.

Stay Heavy! 🤘
Another great list, brother. 🤘🏻☠️🤘🏻 SOD is the perfect representation of crossover, definitely a classic album. Carnivore's Retaliation is another great example of crossover from that era, I was glad to see that it made the online list. Any conversation about this genre would be woefully lacking without mentioning Suicidal Tendencies, although I'd say they had pretty much fully completed their transition over to becoming a full on thrash band on Lights, Camera, Revolution. It's kinda hard to pin them down though, they've been drifting back toward their hardcore roots in their later years.
Cheers!
There's an English version of "Brasil" too, which is harder to find these days. Both versions are amazing.
I've been a major crossover fan since the 80s so you're totally talking my language now! I highly recommend Beyond Possession and Mission of Christ from Canada. Top notch stuff!
Cheers!
DBC were amazing too. Their debut album was a true gem.
I’m gonna google that.. I had no clue Jesus Christ was Canadian.
My top 3
1. Lights...camera...revolution - suicidal
2. Speak English or die - SOD
3. The art of partying - municipal waste
Lights camera revolution, is possibly one of the greatest thrash crossover albums ever recorded, and it's a top 10 all time great metal albums
Yeah it’s a classic and was overlooked for a long time too.
I’m a HUGE Suicidal Fan but that was my least favorite album of the classic era.
Ratos De Porao Brazil, still one of my favorite albums. great list all the way through my man.
Thanks Mr. Ruthless for taking me back to my teen years
I remember witnessing C.O.C., D.R.I., and Cro-Mags crossing over right before my eyes / ears
good stuff!
I was so happy to see you name RDP among all these amazing bands from the CrossOver Thrash scene! Feeling very represented! Stay Heavy! 🤘
hehe, awesome, Cheers!
S.O.D. and S.T. will always be my top 2 crossover thrash bands of all time
Cheers!
Very nice top10. I can add a very rare and hard to find album to the list: Beyond Possession - Is Beyond Possession - 1986
A blend of early Suicidal Tendencies, DRI and a bit of Cryptic Slaughter.
Cheers!
OMG one of my favorite albums, still have Is Beyond Possession on vinyl, seems like no-one else in New Zealand ever heard of them, nice one!
Ratos de porão, pride from Brazil.
Cheers!

8:36 the chugging here 🔥🔥
Thank you for introducing me to new stuff. I'll be listening during my workouts next week 💪🏼
I wanna give an honorable mention to Ice-T's Body Count.
Their debut album Cop Killer is as crossover as an album can get and one of my all time faves
Agreed
sure. :) Cheers! 🤘
remember the controversy when that came out?? Still have the cassette in a cabinet, good call on this one!
Bloodlust is insane, definitly one of the best albums of 2017.
@@thomasangelripper There's any source or info about this?
I can see that Discharge and GBH have been mentioned a few time but us Brits had a really great crossover scene going on in the 80s - Civilised Society, Concrete Sox, English Dogs, Sacrilege, Cerebral Fix, Antisect,…
Yeah mate great times 😎not forgetting deviated instinct and doom and many others i cant remenber. Drink and be merry all ye crusties 😊
I saw GBH with Die Kreuzen in DC in ‘91. Man, it was crazy good. I also saw The Exploited that year.
I agree, crust is a hybrid of punk and metal. A bit different, but punk and metal have been strange bedfellows since the early days of both genre/subcultures.
Yeah just like a old married couple 😂
English dogs fucking rips
As an old metal head, this guys knowledge about underground amazes me! Ruthless 🤟
Thank you Sir, I'm getting quite old myself. :D
Made this 51 year old feel like his teenage years. Have all but the Brazilian band still in vinyl. Metal forever!
Power Trip got me back into cross-over after being away for years. And while I had some ST albums in high school I did not have Lights Camera Revolution. It blew my mind the first time I heard it. It's so good.
Riley Gale is greatly missed RIP.
Honorable mention for Dr Know Wreckage In Flesh
Death Records!
I think the first Nuclear Assault album should be considered crossover.
yeah maybe so, they were on the verge to crossover. :)
Same thought here, 4 days late!
HangthepopeHangthepopeHangthepopeHangthepope
I agree
How ? that’s more in the speed/heavy metal sound. Not crossover at all
Wow I haven’t listened to some of this since I was an angry teenager and wanted to listen punk and thrash. Great albums, my first intros into this genre was CoC, D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies, Cryptic Slaughter, and Excel
🤘
I'm 56 and still feel like an angry teenager😎
Attitude Adjustment - Out of Hand
There's some great stuff on this list. Leeway had killer riffs. I always liked excel too. The vocals were good for the crossover. DRI was a band everyone liked from both sides
cheers
Other cool Crossover albums are:
Hellbastard - Natural Order
The Crucified - The Crucified
Cerebral Fix - Tower of Spite
Ratos de Porao - Crucificados Pelo Sistema
In the uk we consider Hellbastard to be Crust Punk.
Crucified - Pillars of Humanity is a great album
Actually Crucificados Pelo Sistema is a Hardcore Punk/ D-beat, not a crossover thrash.
Ratos de Porão, YEAAAAAH, respect from Brazil🇧🇷
Great list. The best crossover band was the Accüsed.
Love the Accused but def. was never considered a crossover band.
@@mg-ThisHandleIsSoStupid
Yeah they’re great, and they’re 100% definitely positively known as a crossover band
I picked up the Toe Tag CD with Accused members. I also got the Fartz CD. Love Blaine's voice.
@@mg-ThisHandleIsSoStupid what? Never considered a crossover band? Yes they were big time!
Agreed.
Don't forget Cryptic Slaughter.
no :)
I have to agree after Suicidal, DRI and COC, Cryptic Slaughter is the next most essential band in the genre
@@thomasangelripper I disagree. Stream Of Consciousness is great too. The production is really bad, but the songs rule. Speak Your Peace is decent as well. However, that is Cryptic Slaughter in name only.
@@thomasangelripper I would not call it a funk bass sound, but the bass does overpower the recording a bit. A bad mix.
@@johngillespie3409 I agree, Suicidal got funky later on. It is a bit overpowering in the mix though. But I still love that album, Money Talks was a pretty positive album taking nods from Minor Threat and Youth Of Today. Stream Of Consciousness is darker and a return to the speedier style of Convicted. Money Talks was a by comparison more mid paced
DRI is masterpiece!!! Crossover rules!!!!👊🏻🤘🏻
🤘
STORM TROOPERS OF DEATH THE BEST STILL GOT THE LP & STILL PLAYING IT TODAY NO ALBUM WILL BEAT THIS SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE ( MASTERPIECE)
Cheers!
Finally 👏 ...I think The Accused and Cryptic Slaughter are the craziest shit
yeah they are insane. :D
Yeah, agree.... The Accused were kinda different to your regular Crossover band - that slasher horror theme they dealt wit was crazy. And the use of two singing styles was a real prelude to grindcore metal.
Dude. This channel is just brilliant to expand my music.
thanks boss!
First two LPs from Sacrilege (UK) are pure gold!
absolutely!
SACRILEGE B.C IS THE SHIZZNYT
CHECK THEM OUT BROTHA
Great List! A lot of cool bands I've never heard of and need to check out!! You need to make a list of top 10 best modern thrash albums :)
I came from the early thrash metal scene and, after listening to DRI's "Dirty Rotten EP" & Suicidal's first LP, began to listen to a lot more punk than metal. I saw The Exploited play to a packed house in '84 & there weren't a dozen metalheads (including myself) in the crowd. I think the crossover phenomenon really hurt the punk scene more than anything. There was a totally different atmosphere at shows, lots more tension & less fun. Also, just for the record, The Cro-Mags were the absolute LOUDEST band I've ever seen play live.
Hardcore in the mid-80s was going through changes because simple three-chord thrash was played out. Bands and musicians went all kinds of directions, crossover being one of the more successful ones. Punk rebounded when Bad Religion made their comeback and led to all the stuff that happened in the 90s. Ultimately crossover would be left behind, kind of the same way thrash metal was thanks to leading bands evolving their style and others breaking up to form groove metal groups. (To say nothing of the rise of new genres like groove, doom, stoner, death, 2nd wave black, etc.)
I’ve met John Joseph a bunch of times so I’m surprised I’ve never seen Cro-Mags in concert before…that said, the Ramones had to be the loudest band I’ve ever seen
@@vietnamd0820 Musically, I'll take the Ramones over Cro-Mags. That's no contest.
two other great crossover-albums: D.B.C. - Dead Brain Cells & Carnivore - Retaliation
🤘🤘
Dude, DBC self titled is an all timer!
S.O.D. ...still one of my all time favorite...
🤘🤘
SOD is so good like Slayer I listened to no ends to these guys an wished for more.😁 another good pick
New wave started dying out when I was sin high school (Sept. '84-June '87). A friend hated it so much that he'd crank up "Kill 'Em All" or "Fistful of Metal" in order to drown them out. But if Echo and the Bunnymen, InXS, or The Cure were playing, he'd bring out The Butthole Surfers or SOD. His fervent hatred of those bands bordered on psychosis.
Thanks for reminding me of the good times.
hehe. good times, cheers!
You have some great picks here!I was hooked for life after hearing S.O.D!Another band I was introduced to back then was The Accused!Thank you for posting!👊⚔👊
cheers!
The Accüsed are kvlt!
Intro to the Enforcer is frickin HARD!
SOD's Speak English or Die & Agnostic Front's One Voice will always be my go to. Those 2 albums got me confused and excited when i first discovered them, AF with their metal crossover and SOD whos members are metalheads (what I was aware of at the time) with their hardcore punk crossover sound.
On point with your number #1 and the bands like leeway and cro mags as hardcore punk but listing as a adult I definitely see the crossover thrash. Thanks for the introduction to the south American band at # 10 never heard of them but I like!
Great list, lots of underrated gems and solid recommendations! Much obliged!
Glad you make videos like this because I’ve forgotten a lot of these bands the Cro-Mags, SOD, and Suicidal Tendencies. Didn’t even realize SOD was largely Anthrax, who I love (except the John Bush era).
Cheers!
these bands changed my life. Crumbsuckers material still blows my mind. i love the demos, life of dreams and beast on my back. i wish that lineup released a dozen albums, the energy, the solos, the riffs, the speed, the image, the lyrics, the artwork, everything sooo good even after thousands of listens. I wish they kept touring frequently like say DRI. I got to see them 4 times around the bay area. Ludichrist is right up there with Crumbsuckers as well, beautiful production, riffs, relentless energy, bright guitar, blistering speed, I love it. Top tier stuff for me. Great list, this era of crossover is truly special.
Cheers!
Crumbsuckers "Beast on my back" is one of my favorites.. Great production for a crossover band.
Great to see Ratos de Porão in this list.Cheers from Brasil
Cheers!
Split Image is from beginning to end one of the best hc/thrash albums of all time, and it was made by teenagers!
lots of the bands were teenagers, I think crossover is the best teenage music for sure. :D
Not sure if it counts, but Sam Black Church's, Boston, is right up there.

Cro-Mags did a bad ass livestream show during lockdown, wild af
Great bands and choices. Loving the artwork too. COC has changed alot over the years but I still love them. Blind is my favorite album by them.

I don't enjoy that style. But it's amazing to see Ratos de Porão in this list!! Rock'n'Roll lives! 🎸🎸🎸🎸 🎸
Maybe a video about some ruthless, crazy extreme Metal- Jazzcore- Walls of Noise type of Repertoire like Naked City-“Torture Garden”, Old Lady Drivers - “Total Hag”, Napalm Death - “The Peel Sessions”, and the sorts, to delight our eardrums. (Gracias and cheers from México) By the way,… MTV”s intros to the Headbangers Ball with S.O.D’s blistering riffs in the 80’ s with explosions, crashes, and lots of fire were epic.

Pan.Thy.Monium is also good for that style. Love all the ones you mentioned.
Dang Brazil has always had top notch underground/extreme metallic music!!

I know it's not strictly a crossover record from them but D.R.I. - Dealing With It will always be my favorite crossover record
🤘🏻🤘🏻
DRI - Dealing With It is One Of my favorite Albums EVER !! In Any Genre.. Far Superior To There "Crossover". Album.
“Man without and answer like a bird with broken wings…”
Not strictly a crossover record? It's not a crossover record at all. Dealing with it has 25 songs, for a total runtime of 34 minutes. That's straight hardcore punk. MAYBE the songs Nursing Home Blues, and I Don't Need Society is the closest you'll get to metal on that though.
@@CrookedEyeSniper Nursing Home Blues and Argument Then War are straight up crossover thrash. Lots of other metal influence on there too Karma and I Don't Need Society both come to mind. It's definitely majority a hardcore punk record but to say its not crossover at all it's just not true.
