I noticed about 10 seconds for 3 cookies with the 290 and about 13 seconds for 3 cookies with the 280. Are they running the same chains/same sharpness? I have a 280 and I love it.
I have the MS 290 chainsaw I do not recommend owning a 291 it is a peace of shit just the other day I work with a guy that had a 291 and he said the same thing he was very impressed with my ms290 he asked me where can I get one of those so I took him to my local stihl dealer where I get my parts from he purchased a brand new MS 290 the owner of the sthil dinner was very happy that I recommend a customer to her she gave me 2 free t-shirts we took those Chain Saw home I showed him how to break it in he could not believe the raw power this chainsaw head his 291 he sold it got allmost all of his money back when fall comes around I'm going to introduce him to the BR 600 Backpack Blower and the fs90r trimmer sincerely a very very happy customer!!!!!

i have a ms180 ams280 and a o26 love them stihl saws
It sounds like the MS290 has a tighter chain or less oil on the bar than the MS280.
