"Ardyn Izunia is what happens when Destiny decides that you will be the villain of the story... even when being a true good man" That, my good sir, was very beautifully said!
@@AspieGamer1986 Now I'm picturing Artorius and Ardyn clinking bottles of booze at a bar, in a toast to being absolutely P U N I S H E D while Noctis and Velvet - both absolutely furious - try to break through the barricaded door.
Ardyn makes me sad. There must be a time were he was a really sweet guy. Helping people and smiling and being nice...and then the people started to hate him.
Yeah, he really is the most tragic villain in a video game i can think of. There are more bad-ass ones and there are more hatefull ones. But Ardyn is my favorite one because he's story just makes me sad.
Ardyn is easily one of the greatest game antagonists. A villain is good only if the player can relate to them. Fate wasn't kind to him. I think the best moment was when Lunafreya touched him, you could see on his face that he wasn't fully consumed by madness and revenge, a part of him still felt sad about what he had to do. It's a shame that the game was rushed. Hopefully the new DLC will make things better.
I just realized Ardyn and Noctis first meet in view of the island Noctis wakes up on after the time skip to finally fight Ardyn. Small detail and maybe a coincidence but the feels are real.
One more thing to know: Ardyn's first line in the game mirrors the first line he says when stepping into the throne room to confront him. "I'm afraid you're out of luck."
Throughout all the interactions between Ardyn and Noctis, Ardyn is pushing Noctis toward his destiny. Not to be helpful or to abide by the gods' will, but to show Noctis that "destiny" is unfair. Once chosen, your fate no longer becomes your choice, it is something that is thrown upon you. Ardyn especially emphasizes the ills of a pre-dictated destiny to show Noctis that the gods care nothing for the individual, but rather the roles they deign them for. And that is why Ardyn is, not only my favorite FF villain, but one of the most fascinating characters in gaming.
According to his Bestiary Entry, Ardyn was indeed supposed to be the First King, but he was ousted and denied his rightful place. So yes, he is technically the very first in the long line of Lucian Kings.
Never mind I'm an idiot, Episode ardyn was March 2019! This video was January 2017! I'm still an idiot Episode Gladio was 2 months after this video, so it was amazing how much he got right vs how much he got wrong (Little things like the name of Somnus)
Well, the alternate ending before the first director of the game quit was supposed to have Noctis learn the truth of what the astrals had done, and it would show him and Ardyn team up to defeat them
@@zrtl8774 No, that's inaccurate. It was Bahamut who schemed. The alternate ending was done in book form instead. Bahamut wanted to wipe out humanity, but the Astrals stopped him and get knocked out(Astral War). Bahamut tries it a second time, except this time Noctis, Ardyn, Luna and the other Astrals stop him for good.
Ardyn is the best Final Fantasy villain in a game that doesn't have the story to support him. I like FFXV, but the story (or lack thereof) was a major disappointment. Not Ardyn, though. Ardyn was fantastic, and he really needed to be in a game that would really let him shine. However, I will give XV credit for the ending. Best in the series, imo.
Its just so sad that the game (Right Now, wait for the DLC) doesn't make justice to a great villain like Ardyn. There is so much Lore about him that you can only find in the guide. The Founder King, or The Mystic had indeed acted out of jealousy, but after all of that, the younger brother seemed to have regretted his actions, as when his spirit was defeated by Noctis, Somnus asked Noctis to free his brother from the curse plaguing him.
I always saw Ardyn as the tragic villain in the game; especially considering his brother Somnus was a total dickwad. In the end, Ardyn wanted an end, whether it be his or Noctis' and the gods that ousted him. Either outcome is favorable to him; his death would mean his curse comes to an end, and Noctis' death would be the final vengeance against the gods that spurned Ardyn.
Ardyn is the definition of bringing the nice guy to his/her very limit. And, tbh, I love this, a nice, heck , could be even consider a hero, whose gods basically betray him for no good reason. I think this is why I like more the book ending
I like that no matter what ending you choose in Episode Ardyn, the ending result is the same, he ultimately plays into Bahamut's hands, willingly or indirectly.
Peasant honestly just takes superior explanations and message board posts from others. I know this first hand, because he did it to me. He will never acknowledge any true credit.
My good sir. I would like to thank you SO MUCH for making this video. Honestly, I did my research on Ardyn and his backstory, I studied the concept art, read the German dub and even tried to translate the Japanese version to make sure I didn't miss anything. But you figured it all out! And you put it in an enjoyable video too. Thank you so much. Though, there is one thing you might have missed and I believe I figured it out. Ardyn walks around with a black wing-like accessoire sometimes. I never knew why, the object seemed useless to me since he never uses it. But remember his black chocobo? ...You think they executed his chocobo too?
Basically he helps noctis because he wants to die. You don't want to leave forever as a parasyte. He also ended the lucis caelum bloodline. To make sure it won't happen again.
uxserdvghbjl Kind of. However, more so Ardyn's brother Somnus himself than the rest of his line, as that knowledge has become a bit blurred over the years.
I actually get excited when I see you post a video, you are very funny and very skilled with making these videos and I can't wait to see what you make next
This is the best Ardyn video I've seen yet! I wish you would have played the line from the game where he says to Noct that 10 years is nothing! His best line in the game!
I can say I don't regret clicking on this video for one second, cause it was truly marvelous. So much detail, so much information of the lore, the hidden things inside the game and movie, out of the dialogues and the context lying underneath so many things. A very well thought through video, which explain so many things one might not have known before, even though the game and the movie have been played and watched through. Puzzling it all together into one great piece like this surely wasn't easy at all, but it was worth every second!
Just thank you so much for this video, it explains everything perfectly (and I easily understand all the points, even though English isn't my mother language xD). Ardyn kidnapped my heart at first sight, and the only thing I've ever wanted was someone who could sort out all that thing about him. Thanks again :3
i don't know why but when i heard "This is the mind of Ardyn... Lucis Caelum" i got the chills... idk why ;-; and the images you set up along with Somnus Ultima was really good ;-; Awesome video.

But I am interested in if the DLC will build Ardyn as a character even more, or if it will be mostly fan-service (Just showing more of him without any depth). Crossing my fingers for the prior one though
here's an idea: you could use Somnus Ultima to do the flashbacks of your "in the mind" videos when they have one, like the Heihachi Mishima one, the flashes at the end of all his path until his final defeat could use some of that sweet epic music.
I don't think that is a good idea. If I keep using that music often, it will lose that "special" something that it has. Plus, it isn't the only good music in the video game library, tons of stuff that I can use.
Ardyn was basically jesus. But instead of being revered as its savior in the end, he was revered as an atrocity. I dont blame him at all. He is, after all, the 2nd FF antagonist to accomplish their goals.
I really appreciate and care for Noctis and the guys deeply I do(love their personalities storyline and character development), but for some reason in a sick twisted sense I was happy for Ardyn in the end he found peace (plus he got his wish for the eradication of the entire Lucis and Flueret Royal Bloodline). BUT I WILL NEVER FORGIVE HIM FOR ALL THAT HE HAS DONE ESPECIALLY TO POOR LUNA AND RAVUS!!!😢💔😭 It's the type of love/hate relationship you want to avoid.... DAMMIT!!!!
May I ask if you will recreate the video since the Episode Ardyn is now available? This video is a good analysis, and if you only want to adding a new explanation with the information from Ardyn's DLC can be a joy to watch.
This video is probably the best one out there about Ardyn Izunia. All your info was spot on, and you even taught me a few things I hadn't considered. The video itself was also very well done, and entertaining.
Ardyn was never a king, but dual ruled with his brother. After Ardyn saved everyone and became corrupted his own brother is the one that punished him and exiled him. Says this little bit of information in the game.
It's crazy knowing just how on the nose most of this was bar 1 or 2 small things. I'd request an update to this, but don't know what else you could really add that wouldn't tread the exact same ground as in this video.
Ardyn was meant to be the founder King of Lucis, but his younger brother Somnus usurped him and killed his betrothed and wrote Ardyn out of Eos's history. Ardyn is the true hero of FF XV when you know his full story.
I would love to see how this video would've gone if Episode Ardyn was released, he's easily become one of my favorite characters of all time after recently playing FFXV
I love this Int he Mind of: are great. The DLC Ardyn explains a lot why Ardyn does what he does and makes him an even more tragic figure. SPOILERS Who usurped the tron and ordered his murder? His own brother. The love of his life? Murdered in front of her eyes. And above all, the gods tell her that her role is to be the villain because fate says so. In the end she ends up accepting that being the villain is the only way to die (he knew he would end up dying in the end every moment, Bahamunt tells him) and rest in peace and get some satisfaction from destroying the Caelum line in the process. Or he can refuse and be tortured for a few centuries by Bahamunt by the woman he loved summoned and used as a puppet to torture him until he decides to accept the role that fate imposes on him. The woman he loved? The first oracle and much like Lunafreya, just to add a little more salt to the wound. At least in the dlc he beats up his brother.
This video summarizes Ardyn's motivation so accurately. Can you make another video or do a playthrough on Twitch to share your thoughts about Episode: Ardyn.

Ardyn was never a king, but dual ruled with his brother. After Ardyn saved everyone and became corrupted his own brother is the one that punished him and exiled him. Says this little bit of information in the game.
Your narration was epic. 10/10!
OK. I thought Prompto was Prompto during the train fights, but now that you've pointed it out...dang, you have a very good point.
Grim, this was great. 24 minutes is a perfect length for a vid.
It's crazy knowing just how on the nose most of this was bar 1 or 2 small things. I'd request an update to this, but don't know what else you could really add that wouldn't tread the exact same ground as in this video.
That is some nice bit of poetry
I love this so much. Your final conclusion is beautifully worded.
Thank you! I like to make videos that are more than "haha, he's a jerk lol" So happy that you found it good!
Funny thing, the episode of Ardyn actually proves almost everything King J says is actually correct
This was actually pretty close to what happened in episode ardyn!
Ardyn was meant to be the founder King of Lucis, but his younger brother Somnus usurped him and killed his betrothed and wrote Ardyn out of Eos's history. Ardyn is the true hero of FF XV when you know his full story.
I blame Bahamut.
with all the new info this might have to be redone cause his story got way wayyy more mess up with the anime xD
I would love to see how this video would've gone if Episode Ardyn was released, he's easily become one of my favorite characters of all time after recently playing FFXV
I love this Int he Mind of: are great.
The DLC
Ardyn explains a lot why Ardyn does what he does and makes him an even more tragic figure.
SPOILERS
Who usurped the tron and ordered his murder?
I'll be writing Subtitles for this video soon! Been a tad bit busy lately to do so!
King J. Grim slow down. not everyone is from where you are from.
King J. Grim you don't need to
easy to understand
No he's not.
Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the greatest villain of all time, wasted in the most unfinished of games. On this most auspicious of days, I bid you adieu
I know, it's heartbreaking.
This video helped me more understand Ardyn
HOLY SHIT! That was epic!
Good for you making this video. I've tried to tell ppl that play the game this. Also I laughed so hard at 8:33 XD
0:03 I was about to say. Did I click on the wrong video?
these videos are actually really tops
"...And also turns men and beast into the most horrific atrocities you can imagine! ...... TONBERRIES."

Thanks!
All I can say is... damn he's got good hair!
