Big ideas like this is why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I understand the checkered past of the day and what it means to different groups of people, but we have the ability to accept our failures as a people and grow. That's something to be thankful for.
I like how the last moment of the scene isn't of President Bartlett, but of the desk in the oval office, i.e. the office of the presidency. Oh, and a portrait of George Washington, too.
Not this version. They apparently remixed, reorchestrated and enhanced the track. The instruments in the Cedarmont Kids album are horrible. Like a cheap techo pop keyboard. For this episode they erased that, kept the kids voices and substituted it with movie soundtrack quality music.
Got to love the green leaves on the trees on Thanksgiving. The episode where Toby's old coat is on the homeless man who died also featured green leaves in the winter. It was noted in the episode commentary on DVD.
At least The West Wing lampshaded it a little by making Bartlet enjoy the cold, thus explaining why he never seemed to be affected by it. My favorite is The Office, where the actors are always standing outside in overcoats pretending to be shivering while the California sun beats down on them and the verdant shrubbery alike.

Alright guys chill. The West Wing was entertainment. In reality the presidency is a frustrating awful job on the person who wields it, with far more failures than successes from day to day. They have to stay up late at night without sleep during crises. They have to choose what's feasible and what they have the political capital for. They rarely get a fun moral break like this.
